Backstage Hotel Vernissage (Zermatt, Swiss Alps) 4 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The very latest in hotel chic and entirely in keeping with the adjacent Vernissage cultural centre, Backstage has its own special look. It is stylish down to the last detail, full of one-offs and has its own cinema. The 3. 70m-high Cube Lofts are the last thing in exclusivity! Even the spa is tailor-made, and has a theme of the creation story!" - Tablet Hotels

Backstage Hotel Vernissage | Best ski hotels in Europe

"The brainchild of local artist Heinz Julen, the 19-room Backstage is an art gallery you can live in – but calm and cosy too. All the furniture has been hand-made by Julen in his Zermatt workshop. It is part of a cinema complex and is pure theatre itself – each room is individually styled, with features such as free-standing baths by the window so you can watch the Matterhorn while you soak. If you enjoy the art and design dotted through the hotel, take the lift to Heinz Julen’s gallery in the basement – where you can even commission your own lamp. " - Nicola Iseard

We stayed at the Backstage Boutique SPA Hotel in Zermatt and it’s truly one-of-a-kind.||The spa is out of this world — more like an artistic journey than a typical wellness area. Each cube tells a different sensory story, and the whole setup feels surreal and unforgettable. Definitely something to try at least once.||The Cube Rooms themselves are weird and amazing at the same time. They’re visually stunning, with beds on another level and creative design touches, but some of the functionality is a bit of a mystery. The lighting and switches took us a while to figure out and not so practical if you are using adaptors, and traveling with our daughter, we found the open-plan bathroom wasn’t the most practical. It’s an experience for sure — probably one to do once, though next time I might opt for a different room style.||The location is fantastic, right in the center of Zermatt. Breakfast is excellent too, with fresh and local touches.||What really stood out, though, was the staff. Everyone was helpful, warm, and attentive — especially Marcia and Dimi, who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.||Overall, the Backstage is a hotel that blends art, design, and hospitality in a way that you won’t find anywhere else. Not without its quirks, but absolutely memorable.

Had a great stay at Backstage! Laura checked us in and gave us a full run down of the hotel, offered us refreshing iced teas, took a Polaroid pic in front of Matterhorn and showed us to our room. She was super friendly and the hospitality going the extra mile to make us feel welcomed really set the scene and mood for the whole trip. Breakfast was fantastic and very filling. The rooms are a bit small but the balcony is nice and the set up is not bad. The spa amenities are included with all stays and you get to experience all these different rooms—sauna, steam rooms, salt water bath experience, and etc. All amazing!!!! Central location too. Loved the experience and would recommend and will come back here when visiting Zurich.

I come to Zermatt every summer and winter for decades now, but had never stayed here before- and I just don’t know why! My stay last weekend was just magical and we will be definitely prioritizing this hotel for next time. It is insanely different- the design is so well thought of, and so different you feel in some other world. The spa is wonderful, with so many experiences to try. The wonderful man at the reception was full of life and so helpful, we had such a nice welcome, and that reflects out stay.

We spent 3 nights in the Cube Loft, which is the most unique room I’ve ever stayed in! It’s beautifully decorated and gave us ample space to relax in (we loved the flatscreen TV with Netflix). Laura at the front desk was SO kind and friendly and was the highlight of our stay! We also enjoyed the buffet breakfast each morning and stunning spa area. The only cons were the shower pressure was extremely intense to the point of being painful, and there is no carpet on the wooden stairs leading up to the bedroom of our loft so I almost slipped. I also noticed that our luggage and others’ was stored in the public lounge area when they said it would be stored in a private room, which was super concerning since our belongings could have been stolen (thankfully they weren’t). Overall, we had a great stay and would stay here again with a few small changes.

Very central to train stations, grocery and liquor store, and many restaurants and shopping! The full breakfast included is very appreciated! Full access to many spa options and the unique "CUBE" rooms is something one needs to experience! The staff are all very welcoming and personable. We would definitely come back!

Almost perfect, the only thing we didn't like was the lack of soundproofing. You can hear people waking down the hallways in the middle of the night. Other than that, probably the best place we have stayed in Zermatt over the last 40 years.

The staffs made our trip memorable. We all encounter this sudden snowstorm and blackout for 2 days. But the staffs were always there to help us. Provide us with breakfast in the morning timely even though we were in a blackout. And made sure we get to charge our mobiles through whatever electricity they have. They even cooked lunch for us through the fireplace as the kitchen was not functional. Thank you so much

Yelp
Very friendly, welcoming hotel in the heart of the village. 3 minute walk to train station. Our suite was clean and had a beautiful view of the Matterhorn. The morning breakfast was very complete.

Yelp
We found Backstage Hotel while browsing CN Traveler. Luckily for us - there was availability! The only room that was available was the "Family" Cube/ Room which exceeded our expectations - the room was one of the biggest hotel rooms we had stayed in Europe! In addition to the main room with seating area, there was also another small room with bunk beds and a second bathroom. Our favorite part of the room was the balcony that over looked the Jacuzzi and the spas that were complimentary to all guests. We enjoyed sitting out on the balcony enjoying the views and sipping on wine we brought from Italy. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic - the croissants were some of the best croissants that we've had - so fresh ! The staff was so friendly and made our stay that much more enjoyable. We would highly recommend staying at Backstage Hotel !!
