The 38 Essential Santiago Restaurants

"It’s not always easy to find a restaurant open on a Sunday in Santiago. Due to a law that requires workers to have at least two Sundays off per month, many restaurants choose to just close on Sundays altogether — but not Baco. A favorite of local chefs for its wonderfully executed French fare made with market produce, the restaurant also has an extensive selection of Chilean wines by the glass, from the small producers to the heavy-hitters." - Bill Esparza, Hillary Eaton

"Indulge Your Inner Sommelier at Baco Want to know where Santiaguinos go to drink wine? Baco. This place got the wines-by-the-glass craze started and quite simply comes down to the following equation: amazingly well-curated wines with no restaurant mark-up. Add in wonderful, simple French food and great service. Winner. Sip on sublime, zesty Sauvignon Blanc from Casa Marin by the glass; maybe an earthy Carignan from the Maule Valley; how about a silky Bordeaux blend like Erasmo? Be sure to make reservations. Baco is open every single day of the year but always packed. Nueva de Lyon 113, Providencia Phone: 56 (2) 2231 4444 No website!"

Restaurant Baco: A Top Dining Spot We had an exceptional meal at Restaurant Baco! Even with a queue to get in, it was completely worth the wait. For appetizers, we loved the Steak Tartare and Pork Terrine. Our main courses, the Magret de Canard and Beef Fillet Medallion with Béarnaise, were perfectly cooked. We also enjoyed a refreshing Pisco Sour and their unique Wine Tea (red fruits with wine). The food was outstanding, and the service was great. It's clearly a fantastic restaurant – highly recommended!

Google
Baco is an absolute gem. The staff is incredibly attentive and genuinely friendly, the kind of service that makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. They offer complimentary water, don’t charge a service fee, and still go above and beyond. The food is outstanding. I highly recommend the stroganoff — one of the best I’ve had. It’s my favorite restaurant in Santiago, and a place I’ll definitely be coming back to!

Google
Very nice place for really good food and wine. The wine by the glass is very convenient and their selection is well made. Downstairs seems nice, but we stayed upstairs.

Google
Excellent food for a good price. Great wine selection by the glass. Best oysters I had in Chile (so far). I also enjoyed the salmon tartar and the pan-fried reineta. Magret de canard was good, but not among the best I had before. Reservations are highly encouraged, but you can still get in line to get a table. It's a large and lively space. Highly recommended.

Google
This can be the best price to quality restaurant in Santiago. Excellent cuisine, large variety of wine by the glass, amazing atmosphere and good service. We had little trouble with our waitress and the supervisor immediately change for another person who did a great job. A place to comeback

Google
Fantastic restaurant with a real local vibe. Great food and the cocktails were amazing. Really busy but well worth the visit. Reasonably priced for the quality.

Google
I loved this place, we’ve been there twice in our 3-day-stay in Santiago. The food is really good, we tried the oysters, squid, octopus, the sea bass and the reineta, all of them very good but the sea bass was my favorite.

Google
I visited Santjago for the first time and randomly found this place while walking. Despite not bad experience on the first time I came, and specifically coming back the second time for their nice terrace and wine I really enjoyed, restaurant not only refused to serve me because I had a computer and was by myself but even when we made a deal and I ordered pretty expensive bottles of wine they still never served it. Not to say that the first time I came because I was alone and not local the service I received was also below the service for others despite my bill was definitely much higher than for many. Super disappointing and judgemental place and team. Poor service. One of the worst I had around the world. Too bad

Yelp
After many Chilean meals, we wanted to try a different cuisine. French bistro popped in mind and we followed our Yelp guide and landed at this very nice foodies neighborhood. The restaurant atmosphere was very pleasing right from the get go. Restaurant is very open with indoor and outdoor seatings. Servers were very friendly and patient with us since non of us speak Spanish and they speak very little English. They do have English menus though. We had pate as our appetizer which was very tasty and not greasy. We had the beef tenderloin , lamb dish and also the duck confit. All dishes are very good. My friend picked a Chilean wine for $28 which is an exception value. All together, our bill came to $154 which is supper reasonable. I do highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Had a wonderful meal here in a nice restaurant. Got right in on a Saturday evening. Very extensive wine list, especially the cabs. Ordered a mid priced Chilean wine that was quite good. My wife ordered sea bass that was excellent and I ordered the pork medallions that was very good. Came with tasty creamed spinach. We had crème brûlée for dessert. The service was great. Our server very attentive. The restaurant ambiance is very nice and modern.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant! My husband and I came here for lunch while on vacation and were really impressed with the quality of the food. The free water tasted better than tap water we have had in Santiago. The free bread was only mediocre, but everything else was great! We tried the French onion soup, onion quiche, béarnaise filet, and apple tart. The French onion soup was some of the best I've had, very good flavor. The onion quiche had this croissant like crust that was delicious with really good carmelized onions and cheese. The beef was perfectly cooked and the Béarnaise sauce perfect. The apple tart was great, with croissant crust and a perfect flavor of apple and cinnamon. I also tried the lemonade with mint and ginger and the real ginger was a great touch. The outdoor dining was a pleasant setup and as a weekday lunch very popular. One negative is that bums do pass though from time to time, but otherwise a wonderfully experience. The servers are friendly and know a little English.

Yelp
Food was excellent. The service was pretty good as well. We also on the patio so the environment was nice. I would definitely return

Yelp
This place doesn't take reservations on a Friday (or there was a massive language barrier and we couldn't make them). We waited in like for 20 mins and weren't the only ones; I felt the line hit longer after 9pm. We were lucky to be sat in inside as it was cold that evening! We ordered the 15 mussels and two bottles of the caramen wine. We shared the beef and rice dish. The service, the food & the ambience was amazing! Heads up they don't have wifi but definitely worth the wait & visit!

Yelp
Food is excellent, wine selection is amazing and rich. Staff are so friendly and attentive. Love the ambiance and will be back for more My favorite items are beef tartare and paparadella seafood pasta.

Yelp
In the Providencia area of Santiago along side the Mapocho River is a few block area full of local and great restaurants. One we went to was Baco. It had a nice outdoor area that was covered and also a large indoor dining room. The food is local and was delicious - everything from meat to pasta to fish. A great place to spend a couple of hours relaxing in a clean, comfortable environment. Service was great. We didn't have Wi-Fi so couldn't use their tablet menu but they pulled up the menu for us and took our order manually. Very nice. The Chilean white wine wasn't bad either.

Yelp
We had an unexpected change in plans that allowed my family to choose a fine dining experience in Santiago on Tuesday, 03 January 2023. Since we hadn't planned dinner out, and assuming restaurants would not be full on a Tuesday, we foolishly chose Baco of the many options in Providencia based entirely on its #1 rating in Yelp. Being summer, my son and I were dressed in collared shirts and shorts and my wife and daughter were wearing light summer dresses. This is a key detail, like another reviewer posted of her 09 January 2023 experience, my wife was rejected because of her appearance. Despite my son and I being in shorts and sneakers, the headwaiter (maître d') pointed at my wife and said we would not be permitted in the restaurant because he didn't approve of her shoes. We left, my was wife humiliated. Thankfully there is an abundance of restaurants in the area and we ended up at De la Ostia, which is very close. See my other reviews for the wonderful Tapas experience we had there. Later back home, I looked at Baco's menu and realized they just serve the standard classic French fare, available anywhere including my home since I frequently prepare French dishes. Cassoulet, Beef Bourguignon etc.. Anticipating they offered the standard crappy pre-frozen Crême Brûlée, I was not surprised to find it on the menu. Ultimately, the arrogant and pretentious staff at Baco did us a huge favor because we had a wonderful dining experience at a restaurant that appreciated our business and treated us very well.

Yelp
The food was excellent. Boeuf Bourguignon was lovely, tender beef, tasty gravy with roasted potatoes. The fruity Cab was a perfect match with the dish. Desert was an apple pie(what we Americans would call a tart) and I ordered ice-cream on top. My husband had the reineta con aligot (white fish with cheesy mashed potatoes) which came with a wonderful tomato squash side dish. The flavor was so fresh! He also had the Cab but had chocolate cake with ice-cream for desert. Nothing like a cake in the US! It had a pie crust, a thin layer of cake and what tasted like a dark chocolate ganache on top. I'm not a big chocolate fan but I would order this when we return, which we will. Luckily our hotel is a block away and we have a full week to spend here. The service was just enough, they put up with us using google translate and their outdoor patio was perfect for this warm spring day. If you're visiting here, don't pass up this gem.

Yelp
Delicious food, excellent service and great ambiance. The oysters, lentil salad and cassoulet were memorable.

Yelp
Nuestra primera noche en Chile excelente restaurante muy limpio la comida todos los platillos muy buenos 100% recomendable

Yelp
Chilean wine has gone through an amazing evolution. From a production focused on inexpensive generic consumption wine, to a careful wine production that makes Chile make now some of the best wines in the world. This establishments literally grow from this. It is a restaurant place in a cellar. With an impressive selection of wines and a delicious menu to match them. Lively and well served.

Yelp
I started lunch with a soupe à l'oignon followed by a cassoulet. Both were very good. When I was paying the bill I learned they are the only restaurant not accepting tips. Inhabituel! Anyway, having lunch at Baco was a very nice experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting for the week and had 4 dinners there; all were excellent! Loved the Ostres, salmon, wine choices, ambiance.

Kristen Lee K.

Yelp
The reviews of Baco drew us in, and we were expecting a lovely dinner. The moment we were seated we were told my husband's sandals were not appropriate attire, despite that many other patrons were also wearing sandals. He was the only dark skinned man, and we were beyond horrified to be treated in such an inhumane manner. The management should be ashamed of their blatantly racist behavior. It was extremely hurtful and upsetting to us. A true embarrassment for this establishment. How do they sleep at night?
google avatar

Rafaela D.

Yelp
Environment is super nice, the food is also great. My only caveat was the price - we got an expensive cheese platter that, when it got to the table, was extremely tiny. It was delicious, though. They have an extensive list of wines by the glass, with a huge variety, good for wine tasting. Their Foie Gras Terrine is VERY good. I've tried this kind of terrine in many different places, and this one has an amazing ratio of foie gras, they're definitely not petty with this, which makes it absolutely worth it. For dessert, try the Fondant au Chocolat, you won't regret it. Didn't order, but the Milhojas was very popular in the tables around us as well.
google avatar

Adam D.

Yelp
This review is only for the wine shop, which has a small selection of great local wines at very decent prices. Maybe 40 different bottles here and some liquors. Also a very inviting atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
So we had one night in Santiago. And a local friend recommended Baco. I had a Melchior in my bag but always prefer to debate with a sommelier specially on wine resto! So we had an amazing Calyptra 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon that was the best match for the rabbit table as appetizer and my husband cassoulet (if u like cassoulet make sure to order it. It's awesome) and I had the bourguignon. Was ok but it was not a 12 hour one (just four hours) Enjoy!
google avatar

L J.

Yelp
We got the best Syrah ever here at Baco! The way they serve wine, their focus on quality and the food, all were top notch. If I say I didn't consider copying their style and opening a restaurant like them (Wine and Steak focused) San Diego I have lied. Too bad the meat is not the same up north. Don't miss out on a good meal and wine at Baco!
google avatar

Jon J.

Yelp
If you are into being discriminated, then this is the perfect place for you. I didn't have any problems with entering, they were very kind, but as soon as they brought food I was constantly pointed out by my clothes because I was too different (Pants and a shirt) and asked to change (how?). This created an uncomfortable context between my friends and turned the meal into a tasteless experience. Just so you know, by 'good etiquette' they mean khakis, a light blue shirt (Believe me, everyone is wearing that) and snobby attitude. If you are kind, or a person of color, they will segregate you. You might enjoy the pricey meals, but be prepared to be annoyed by those who let you enter before only because, in their words 'They want to protect their costumers', which means 'I will let you know you are not welcome after you pay our meals'.

Yelp
I was browsing the highest rated places to eat in Santiago and started to notice a lot of reviews mentioned oysters. I hadn't really considered oysters as a South American food, and being an oyster lover, I started just searched reviews that mentioned oysters. Baco came up as a perfect fit. Highly rated, had oysters, close walk from hotel, and wide variety on the menu for my less seafoody friend. We arrived and decided to dine upstairs. Super cute and intimate, but if I came back I'd choose to go outside. Again, no English spoken nor on the menu, but we got by. Our server suggested we get the fried cheese to start, so we went with that while perusing the menu and ordering some wine. This place is allll about the wine and even the wines by the glass impressed! I went with a fabulous Petit Verdot. Turns out Baco was pretty much my own personal foodie heaven and I went a bit overboard on ordering. Though I managed to finish almost 95% if it! Oysters, Foie Gras, Iberico Ham, Bone Marrow, Steak Tartare..... yeah I'm literally drooling just thinking back to this meal. Plus I think I forgot something? The menu was absolutely amazing, and overall this was the foodie highlight of my trip!

Yelp
Delicious!! We tried so much... everything was great! Plus, entertainment by a street performer. Highly recommend dinner here when visiting Santiago. Steak, seafood, appetizers, dessert, wine, port wine - all reasonably priced and high quality.
google avatar

Alexa H.

Yelp
In short, this restaurant was quite good. The service was slow, and I seem to be overlooked quite a bit. Maybe that's because I was a woman dining alone? I certainly hope not. I ordered the langostinos from Argentina. They were very subtle and served slightly undercooked. But the freshness and the taste was excellent. The langostinoa were served with a quinoa pilaf, a nice accompaniment. I tried a lovely white wine to accompany the meal. I ordered tartitin for dessert and a late Harvest Riesling. They were both very good. But by this time I was quite fed up with the terrible service. All in all, the food was very good. If the service were better, I would give it another star.
google avatar

Riccardo F.

Yelp
First of all: open on sundays! Which is quite a lot already in scl Jokes aside...excellent place, great food to share or to enjoy as single plates...super cocktails and wine. Nice location...cute staff wearing glasses all really good. A bit pricier than avg but it's worth it!

Diego J.

Yelp
overpriced, staff isn't that friendly, needs a more diverse menu, they don't work with fantasy beverages (huge con).
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
As an expat living in Santiago, you tend to look for something that makes you feel like home, and after trying out many french restaurants or bistros in Santiago, I have to say that Baco hits the spot! The only respectful, elegant but simple, and fine french cuisine in Santiago. The decor is nice, you can enjoy the quiet terrace in the summer or the bistro ambiance inside year long. Perfect for late night dinners, business lunches, family birthdays or friends gathering! Would recommend calling ahead since it's very popular.

Yelp
I so much wanted to like Baco. Unfortunately we decided to sit at the bar which is alway fun and safe spot, every bar tender around the world will be happy to help you enjoy your evening. Well, not exactly the case in Baco. I understand the guys were busy pouring glasses of wine and mixing cocktails, but forgetting an order of oysters, which I indeed ordered twice while trying to order our glasses of wine, was not nice at all. The guys seemed to be apologetic, when I enquired about the oysters, but they actually started arguing between each other about it. I guess this is happening when you have the entire bar taken care of very young guys with limited customer service experience. Even making eye contact with them was impossible. Otherwise Baco is nice restaurant with interesting sea food menu, long list of wines, including Chilean wines offered by the glass. The oysters we ordered were small, but really delicious. They were served with warm and crispy French baguette. Unfortunately because of the incident described above I forgot to ask where are the oysters from and we kind of lost our appetite for more food. The ambiance of the place is classy and they have beautiful patio. There are multiple signs that the restaurant doesn't have WiFi and you are requested to talk between each other insted, which is adorable even for a tourist as me who desperately wants to do Yelp check in. I still think going to Baco is safe, but just DO NOT sit at the bar.
google avatar

Shawn M.

Yelp
excellent food, seafood, wine, the place to be seen and see santiagos affluent

Edward C.

Yelp
The steak was good though nothing special. Tender medium rare and wasn't bloody so good sear on the meat. It seems to cater to the tourist crowd with an American flair to the menu. It definitely tasted like Angus beef. The ambiance is pleasant and overall spacious. The waiters seemed rushed running back and forth amongst all the tables. Price was average
google avatar

Susie M.

Yelp
Baco was across the street to our hotel so we decided to give it a go having read the reviews. Now having stayed in Santiago for four days, this was BY FAR the best dinner. Lovely atmosphere with an indoor/outdoor feel. I had the Corvina served with couscous. The sauce was spectacular! So light and flavorful. Hubby had the beef stroganoff, equally good. Would highly recommend Baco when visiting Santiago.
google avatar

Angel Z.

Yelp
Fast service, great food n service. Don't miss it when in Santiago, Chile. Try the beef stroganoff and the medallion de Filete, salsa Bearnaise. Great selection of local wines bottle or glass; enjoy!!
google avatar

Pete F.

Yelp
Our first great dinner in Santiago and it turned into one of the greatest meals we have had anywhere in our travels. Food was very high quality, an extensive wine list, deserts to die for, good service, reasonable prices, and a great atmosphere. I don't think you will be disappointed if you try this place. We certainly weren't.
google avatar

Gee H.

Yelp
It's my go to place for reliable food and wine when I am in Santiago. Super busy, so don't expect any idol conversation from staff. But watching the kitchen and wait staff is always entertaining. My fav is the pulpo. Yum.
google avatar

Ralph K.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance, the baguette, my wine, the cassoulet. All was outstanding. I would highly recommend!
google avatar

Sterling C.

Yelp
Good touristy Provençal classics and better localized fare, delicious desserts. Good service, reasonable prices, and a fun wine-list. The professionalism of the staff, the consistent quality of the food, the authenticity of the French dishes, and the quality and reasonable pricing of the wine-list put this restaurant miles ahead of most in Chile. If you're from Lima, Melbourne, or San Francisco you won't find anything here to write home about, but in Santiago, it's head & shoulders above the rest - an uncharacteristically pleasant dining experience at an uncharacteristically fair price-point.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
Wine bar in the bustling downtown district of Providencia. It draws a mixed crowd of well-dressed residents and serious wine connoisseurs enjoying the recent trend here of wine by the glass. The menu is French-inspired, with a long list of appetizers including a raw salmon appetizer with lemon that's tasty. Dinner portions are fair but not gigantic, and the vegetarian lasagna is good, and people rave about the steaks.
google avatar

Bob D.

Yelp
Excellent French/Continental restaurant with very good food and an excellent wine list both by the glass and bottle. For what it is, an excellent value. Service is excellent in an efficient way, not terribly friendly but they are there when you need them. Water and wine glasses are filled. Also, this restaurant is open Sundays, which really helps. I will return.
google avatar

Nermal B.

Yelp
I need to say that the creme brûlée there is awesome! a good one! You will lick your paws! The menu of wines is very very large so if you love wine or you wanna surprise somebody and look cool, go there. They have many types of wine. The place is fancy and the service ok. The locations is nice and close to subway and many bus stops. You need to take a girl there is you are in Santiago.
google avatar

Lotus R.

Yelp
We stayed in Santiago for slightly over a week. During that time, we went to Baco twice for lunch and three times for dinner. One of the few decent restaurants that do not charge for regular water. Great food and service. They know how to cook fish without the use of sauce. We had shrimp, salmon, hake, grouper, duck breast. One of the hake dishes was a head. Highly recommend their desserts - Leches Nevada, pistachios ice cream

Margarita M.

Yelp
Nice french food, great selection of wines, but the night I went there they have only 1 type of soft drink: ginger ale. The service really needs to improve, we got only 2 menus (I was with a party of 5) then the waitress forgot I ordered a glass of wine and her attitude was kinda rude.

Paige K.

Yelp
Great dinner with lots of options. We tried multiple appetizers and we really enjoyed the octopus!

Kurt N.

Yelp
The ratings on this bistro are accurate. Would rate it a 4.5. We were seated without a reservation. The service was good. This must be where the locals go; no english menus and few english speaking staff. The stroganoff and beef bourginion were excellent. The menu includes pasta, and an extensive wine list that appeared pricier than other restaurants. Enjoyed a Koyle Costa Sauvignon Blanc from the nearby Colchagua valley. Parking on Street limited, The surprise of the night was the cash tip I left was returned to me as we were walking out the door; apparently tips are not accepted.

Robert L.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Santiago. Genuine French food at it's best (which is even hard to find in France). Superb wine selection. You will not be disappointed.

K J.

Yelp
We liked it so much that we ate there twice, once for dinner and once for lunch, during a three night visit in Santiago. The wine selection is outstanding and, as the name indicates (Baccus is Roman god of wine), a major focus of the restaurant. French food that is reasonably priced and very good. The restaurant is large, but does a great business so make a reservation.
google avatar

Beaux C.

Yelp
Ate and drank at Baco twice in a week! Incredible wine list at a cool causal spot. Enjoyed everything - the tartare, iberico, bocatillas (homemade puff pastries stuffed with mushrooms), duck confit, four cheese gnocchi. The diverse menu of modestly sized plates gives you the ability to sample the fullness of their wine list.
google avatar

Doug M.

Yelp
Food was great, service was also excellent. I would very much recommend this place. My colleague from Italy said the grilled squid was the best he's ever eaten. Right across from the Four Points Hotel.
google avatar

Aska K.

Yelp
Their fondant chocolate is so yummy:) A bit disappointed by server since we had to wait for him for long time.

Louis-Marie D.

Yelp
Good french food. Ideal for a business lunch or diner. Great wine cave! Everything is good on the menu. Only downside is that they never renew the menu...

This is y.

Yelp
Nice outdoor feel and very open feeling with great food.
