The Best Restaurants and Bars in Cole Valley | Eater SF

"Technically Bacon Bacon is just a few blocks up from Cole Valley in Ashbury Heights, but to leave the brick and mortar location of this famous SF food truck off this list would be criminal. The cafe is small — you can walk right by and miss it — but the food that comes out is big in every way. Breakfast is served all day, filling a niche for when you just need your morning meal a little later in the day. Not every dish is a gut bomb (there are salads!) either, so there’s really something for everyone." - Eater Staff

Google
This is a nice little spot for a solid breakfast sandwich. The menu isn't super varied but what they do have they specialize in and seem to do well. You might guess from the name: bacon. We all got variations of breakfast sandwiches and they all did the job. Well constructed, hearty, salty, bacony. The bacon jam is more like pork put through a blender... But that's not a bad thing in my book. The coffee was good, not amazing but better than average. The room itself is no frills. Minimal decoration, just there to get the job done. Unfortunately Porky, the little coin operated pig ride, seems to have been decommissioned :(

Google
The food truck dropped by Oyster Point today. Honestly, I'm not particularly impressed. Food is average. I got the Banh Mi and the Porky Fries. The Banh Mi was supposed to have picked vegetables, they weren't. At least not in my sandwich. It was spicy, but lacked flavor. The fries were dry, meaning the pulled pork lacked moisture. There was hardly any bacon and I didn't see any pork belly. Overall, disappointed. I guess if the fries had cheese, it would help tie everything together. Ambiance, was great, but since they're a food truck they can't help with the windy location.

Great food at the presidio on a beautiful Sunday afternoon!

Google
Enjoyed a fried chicken bacon sandwich from the food truck when it was located in the parade grounds by the Tunnel Tops. Great location to grab to good bites and then walk on over to the park for a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The chicken was panko crusted and perfectly cooked. Good sando.

Google
Love everything this place makes! The NYC bagel, the Porky Breakfast Burrito and the Porky Breakfast Sandwich are all just so good! The Porky versions add Pulled Pork which makes the burritos/sandwiches into meals. The Bagel is a good lighter-option. However the place is really quite slow and needs more people working there. It was a single person when I was there, and that resulted in longer times.

Google
Best breakfast burrito I’ve had in a long time, will definitely be back!

Google
Was visiting sf and looking for a breakfast spot and stumbled on this place. One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. The bread, the bacon, the egg, cheese, bacon jam are just excellent. The staff was especially nice and very helpful. The interior was clean and interesting. Absolute must try.

Google
If you love bacon, Bacon Bacon is your place! Try the Cuban, the chocolate chip bacon cookie, and the chocolate covered bacon. The turkey sandwich (The Bird) is great too! The fries are seasoned just right!

Yelp
I have ordered the breakfast burrito and a breakfast sandwich a handful of times and they have been excellent! Big burritos, great taste, and most importantly you get enough food! I have found a few of the other local burrito joints in SF are either great tasting and small, or big and too greasy. We have noticed if you put in more than 3 burritos in one order each burrito's size will be drastically smaller. Just some food for thought.

Yelp
Fed up with ordering delivery and drinks are missing. This has to be like the fourth time or more. I ordered two orange juices and only one came. Love the food but delivery is unreliable and frustrating. Last time I called about it they blamed the drivers and said something about money off next time. I'd rather my full order than a discount. Super sad as I love the food.

Yelp
Was solid but not blown away - good option for a breakfast burrito in the area. Porky breakfast burrito: this promised a lot but didn't quite deliver. The bacon wasn't as crisp as I was hoping nor were there as many peppers as I'd thought from the description. The eggs we're scrambled into very small pieces - while they weren't dry, more texture and acid would've been nice holistically. Fries: had to wait a while for these but they were pretty good. Crispy outer fry with soft inside. Parmesan was nice but could've used more salt overall Service was friendly. The person taking our order was very nice and they gave us a free chocolate croissant since we had to wait a while for our fries.

Yelp
Did you say "BACON BACON?!" Yes, bacon! Great food menu, lovely people who are friendly and helpful and a little cafe style to stop, chat and re-energize with your circle of friends! Owners Jose and his wife are great people! If you like bacon....

Yelp
The worst "gourmet" burger I've ever had. Similar to McDonalds. Dry dry meat, flavorless bun, unripe tomato, no flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is for the breakfast burrito, which is probably one of the top 3 breakfast burritos I have ever had. I've been coming to this spot for the past year and a half and the breakfast burrito has consistently blown me away. It is cheesy, bacony, and SO flavorful, not to mention they grill the burrito after making it so the tortilla has an extra crunch. I also have found breakfast burritos to often be undersalted but this place is PERFECT. Regarding the ambiance of the space, it's pretty small and I've never seen a big line. There are a few small tables with stools against the wall to eat at, but I definitely wouldn't plan on coming here for a sit down breakfast with a large group. Service is quick and friendly, and I've always gotten the burrito within 5-10 minutes of ordering. Overall excellent breakfast burrito, and maybe the best I've had in the city.

Yelp
Pretty solid spot for breakfast sandwiches. We ordered the bacon/egg/cheese and the sausage/egg/cheese sandwiches. I liked the BEC, but I didn't love the SEC as much because the maple flavor of the sausage was slightly overpowering. The bacon was nicely crispy, and I was full after finishing my sandwich (so I think it's a good size). It took about 10 minutes for our order to be ready. We arrived around noon on a Sunday, and there was no line. There is limited seating inside (2-seater tables), so I recommend taking your order to-go.

Yelp
If breakfast is the day's most important meal, then the Bacon Bacon Cafe serves up the most important sandwich. If there was a mecca for breakfast sandwich enthusiasts, it is the Bacon Bacon Cafe. I've journeyed far and wide, munching my way through many morning offerings, and yet, I keep circling back to this gem. The cafe is clean, and the vibes are chill. Do I have a favorite breakfast sandwich? The answer is a resounding YES. Here, between the gentle embrace of a poppy seed brioche bun, lies a masterpiece. The bacon is not just any bacon - it's thick-cut, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The kind of bacon makes you wonder if pigs have a secret society dedicated to producing this divine cut. But the art doesn't stop there. The sandwich features a sultry jalapeño jelly - a hint of sweetness, spice, and everything nice. It complements the savory notes of the sandwich and takes it to a level you didn't know existed. And oh, the egg! It's not just placed there; it's orchestrated. When you take that first bite, the yolk runs gracefully, mingling with the other components, making every bite a symphony of flavors.

Yelp
For a place called Bacon Bacon, their bacon seemed like some Microwaved Hormel. When the sausage patty for your breakfast sandwich is the star, it's probably time to change your name.

Avery K.

Yelp
I ordered the breakfast burrito and a few bites in there was a black strand of hair mixed into the scrambled eggs. I have blonde hair. All of their staff had black hair. Had to throw out the burrito because of this disgusting sight.

Yelp
This is a 2 bus ride location for us. I had never heard of it until the Too Good To Go app. So I had a chance to get an unknown something in a bag when the restaurant has leftovers. Boy, was I pleased. I was concerned about locating this place because various places described it as a food truck, and other places indicated another name, like it was a pop-up. Nope. Very clearly marked Bacon Bacon. Easy friendly pickup and then the long bus ride home. What's in the bag? This HUGE scrambled egg burrito and several round things. It was more than enough to split for dinner. And very tasty. I did my Pittsburgh thing and dipped my half in Heinz Ketchup, but it was good on its own. No bacon in it, but I knew the restaurant was using up stuff left over at the end of the day. But it was very tasty. If I am in the area, I certainly would return and maybe get that half pound burger with bacon. The place was very clean.

Yelp
I was taking a stroll around the neighborhood, and I happened upon this spot with a sign that said voted best breakfast burrito, so I was immediately intrigued to give it a try. I decided to go with the Porky Breakfast burrito and a can of coke. The burrito itself comes in at just under $11, which by SF standards is pretty normal nowadays. While I thought the burrito was tasty, there's definitely room for improvement. First off, for a burrito called the porky, I expected a whole lot more meat in there. Honestly I could barely taste any of it because it was like 90% eggs and guac (which I appreciate that they didn't skimp on). I get meat is expensive right now, but there's gotta be more added into it. The cheddar cheese was half-melted, and I think if it was left on the grill a little bit longer, so the tortilla gets a nice crunch and the cheese fully melts, then it goes to another level. The salsa it came with was pretty tasty, and definitely went well on the breakfast burrito. Being with my pup, they kindly let me order anyways, and even gave Mila some bacon bits for being such a good pup. She will now stop at the door every time I walk by this place lol. The staff was so kind and sweet, definitely 5/5 for customer service! Overall, not a bad option if you are looking for a quick meal in the area.

Yelp
Great burgers, tasted great after a long flight. The fries were OK too. Service was quick which was cool. Pretty messy/greasy though so make sure to grab a lot of napkins For 3 burgers and one side of fries though it was $75, they charge an automatic extra 5% for the workers on top of the prices and then ask for tip which was a little tacky. Overall would consider going here again but not getting the fries

Yelp
Closed an hour before time and employees inside won't acknowledge customers outside, wasted trip

Yelp
Got the Too to Go surprise bag Got a Bacon Scone ($2.75) and The Breakfast Burrito ($10). The scone when heated up was really good especially if you add a little bit of maple syrup. Nothing like bacon and maple syrup. The bacon were a fine crumble so you get some in every bite. The burrito is bacon crumble, fluffy eggs, cheese, a bit of salsa and avocado spread. Its all rolled together and then put into a press. It held together really well, but I think it could have been a little tighter. The flavor is mainly from the salsa and avocado...with the eggs and bacon playing a strong supporting roll. Let me add the avocado spread is chunky so bonus points.

Yelp
Haven't tried too much on their menu but the breakfast burrito is delicious! Sometimes if you're lucky, you can also find them on too good to go and get a steal, but their regular prices are also reasonable.

Yelp
This place was pretty good to eat in a pinch and this was the first thing that I was able to taste after being riddled with Covid and losing my sense of taste so thanks bacon bacon for being the first time I felt happiness in 10 days lol
google avatar

Yelp
Bacon Burrito for the win. Especially after a long night. And that bacon bouquet? I know i shouldn't but i fall for it every time. So worth it. Note to online people (ubereats, GH, etc): the online ordering platforms sometimes show no breakfast, or all breakfast, so just ring their phone and they'll get your order going.
google avatar

Brett G.

Yelp
Porky breakfast burrito was disappointing. Large and read quickly but not particularly great. Lots of egg but the cheese was mostly on one end of the burrito. Theresa's some bacon - most likely two strips - but it was essentially all along one end of the burrito and one side more specifically. Cheese was also heavily concentrated at one end. Made eating it really inconsistent and some bites bland while others overwhelm. Didn't notice much other non-bacon pork, echoing other reviews. Probably won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
While I was waiting for my coffee I saw a woman walk out of the bathroom and go straight to make a sandwich without washing her hands. Also quality of food has gone down. This place is not good at all.
google avatar

Chris J.

Yelp
Such friendly staff. Christine had to pee so bad and they kindly welcomed her even before we decided to order. I really love my breakfast sandwich so this places has been on my mind for a while now. We split the porky burrito and the veggie sandwich. Both so delicious in their own ways. Exactly how I love my breakfast. Can't wait to try more next time.

Yelp
Great food, decent prices! Staff is super friendly. I just wish they were open later in the day.

Yelp
I was craving a breakfast burrito but my usual place was closed so I did some yelping...then I come and find out that it was voted the best breakfast in sf from Thrillist! SO MANY OPTIONS! Sandwiches, burritos, burgers etc u name it! BREAKFAST BURRITO -I got no bacon -The avocado cheese and pulled pork added flavor but wished the eggs had some more salt/pepper BUT at a price point of $10 for the size and contents...really good for SF! I only ate half and was full! I will definitely be back and so glad to find a solid breakfast spot in the City :)

Yelp
Finally tried this bacon fulfilled establishment via delivery - DoorDash and thought a few items were good and disappointed in my sammie I ordered. The Mac n Cheese balls are good. I have no right eating Mac n Cheese all rolled up into a ball making my booty bigger but it was an indulgence I couldn't resist. The Breakfast Taco was really good for $4.00! Loads of bacon crumbles, hearty and filling. My friend liked the Bacon Fries (we actually ordered Porky Fries for him) and the Bacon Fried Chicken sammie. I think the Bacon Fried Chicken Sandwich is their signature sammie, very popular. My sammie I ordered was The Bird. It was vaguely similar to what others posted pics of on Yelp. I just think mine got rushed and not made proper. The cabbage slaw was disgusting, the turkey was grilled burnt and the avocado was browned. Also looked hastily thrown into the to-go container. No worries, stuff happens. I most likely will not return, the sandwich issue aside, it's just not for me.

Yelp
Review for the "Too Good to Go" app pick up on a Saturday. Too Good To Go orders are like a box of chocolates as: "you never know what you are gonna git"  I guess I was thinking I would get some bacon and maybe some chicken.   I got there at the exact pickup time (2:30pm) and was greeted with a hefty bag containing a piping hot breakfast burrito and a cheese and bacon scone. The HUGE breakfast burrito was excellent (and oddly even more tasty the next day when I heated the 2nd half), and I am going to crave this particular item in the future. I am guessing that the Too Good To Go model promotes restaurant participation by telling restaurant owners that they will get exposed to new customers through this trial. Proof point: I am their latest FAN, and will think about this simple burrito concoction for a long time to come (eggs, cheese, bacon or pork?, and a bit of avocado). The scone was also strangely crave able - a little sweet and a lot savory. Apparently you CAN order more than 1 qty "Too good to go" here as well. (For many places that is not an option) I am estimating my order would retail at $15 dollars -  I paid $4.99. I wish Too Good to go would publish the reviews - so you know what other people got in their bags...I am kinda hoping Yelp will purchase Too Good to Go. ("Are you listening Jeremy?")

Yelp
A bit pricey but since it's nearby, and I can often find free street parking within a block, it's a nice occasional lunch splurge. Despite it being on their online menu still they no longer have the 1/4 LB BACON CHEESEBURGER which was my standard order. :( I even doublechecked when ordering in the store since I didn't see it on the menu and he said there is only the double patty option. The 1/2 double is too much meat for my taste. Bring back the 1 patty bacon cheeseburger please. I ended up removing 1 of the patties to be able to fit it all into my mouth. Also the BACON Fried Chicken sandwich contained no actual bacon. :( I get they were rushing through a lot of orders at lunch time. But for $13.50 (plus tax, plus tip) I'd like my order to be accurate. Spent $38 dollars for lunch only to be disappointed in both orders today. I will go back, but maybe not as often as before.

Joseph C.

Yelp
Service was good. Breakfast burritos were fine, just not 5 star territory. If I go back, I'll try the breakfast sandwich.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a fantastic restaurant. They have such a great menu. The staff is always fantastic and the food is just as good. Parking can be a little challenging but it's definitely worth it finding a spot. But Cubano is definitely one of my favorite things to eat there. Every time we are in the bay area this is definitely a stop that we have to stop. They are still operating through the pandemic. Call ahead and order and take it and go. You will never be unhappy with anything that you have from here. Just walking in and the smell will make you wish you would have ordered more. The desserts are something you have to grab and take with your meal. This little spot is a well hidden gem. Cant wait to get back to the bay and have lunch.
google avatar

Gregory F.

Yelp
Proper sandwiches! Feel free to order what you like as this menu delivers. Too often a menu is an expression of an "artist" that doesn't know a damn thing about flavors and rationing their overuse of spices or fillings. I'm very happy to report Bacon Bacon does a wonderful job of giving you bacon without giving you that "too much flush". Wide range of items allows for everyone's tastes and if delivery is chosen their service is up to snuff with hot items and nothing soggy! Thank you for the experience! We will order again!
google avatar

Judy P.

Yelp
Order: -Breakfast burrito -Breakfast sandwich Bacon Bacon makes you drool like Homer Simpson! Be prepared to be super duper satisfied and go on a hike nearby after.
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
Such friendly and kind staff. Great food as well - just on the heavier side. We got the almost veggie sandwich and the porky breakfast burrito. Both were tasty but a lot to get through - heavy on the cheese and egg for both, a little messy, and definitely filling. I'd love to come back and try different items!
google avatar

Erik H.

Yelp
Still operating during the Pandemic, you might try injecting yourself with bacon as it might have the antibodies to fight the virus. You are only a true bacon devotee if you go out and safely( with mask) support Jim's business during these trying times. With McDonald's gone in the Haight, just come up and get your Bacon Breakfast sandwich or breakfast burrito. The place is clean, and the crew are able to make your order the way you want it. Eggs fried, scrambled, etc. Today I had the NY BEC (Bacon Egg Cheese) but there are different versions of the sandwich with peppers, avocado, plain bun and egg type. They have many online delivery options, but get out and support the store itself if it is convenient. The workers need your tips, not the delivery company. You're paying for the food, right? The people who make your food need the tip more than the people who deliver it.
google avatar

Yelp
Came across this breakfast spot when googling places near where we stayed in SF, and was not disappointed! Was craving a good breakfast sandwich and that is what Bacon Bacon served. The ambience inside was friendly and fun and the staff was also friendly. I asked for an iced latte and got an iced coffee instead, but it isn't a big deal because coffee is coffee. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is because the food was extremely oily and when we ate inside, there were flies all around where we sat (which was pretty gross). They have limited indoor dining and also do takeout.
google avatar

Avneet P.

Yelp
My love of bacon meant I HAD to try this place, it's got bacon in its name twice, so obviously I went. I got the infamous breakfast sandwich! I wish they mentioned in the menu that the eggs aren't fried hard, which is usually how breakfast sandwiches are served. I hate a runny yolk, it really disgusts me, so imagine my dismay when I bit into the sandwich and got yolk EVERYWHERE, all over me, my hands, and my car seat... it was horrifying. After cleaning everything up (took a while, yolk is sticky ), I decided to give the rest of the sandwich another go anyway cause I was starving. The bacon did not let me down, even though it was hard to get over the yolk situation (i just ate around it) the rest was pretty good. Despite all the I knew I needed to try this place again. Second time around I got the New York breakfast sandwich, and it was really good so I'm glad I gave it another shot! Next time I'll have to retry the breakfast sandwich but just ask for the eggs done well!

Savierra G.

Yelp
Stopped here before taking a long drive home. Was craving a breakfast burrito and stumbled across this place on best brunches in sf. Went and got a classic breakfast burrito that had avocado which was so tasty. The staff was so nice esp the lady working the front! Great personality.Quick service and appetite was satisfied.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Ordered the breakfast bowl and breakfast burrito as delivery when hungover and it hit the spot! The breakfast burrito was huge. I was hoping there would be a higher ratio of meat to egg in the breakfast bowl, however it was still delicious and I'd order it again!
google avatar

Margaret F.

Yelp
Bacon lovers this spot is for you! Ordered the bird, banh mi, a couple bags of chicharrón and sweet popcorn for an impromptu park picnic. WOW - loved my sandwich (the bird) definitely not what I was expecting. The bread had the perfect bounce, generously filled with the yummiest turkey/melted swiss and the thickest bacon soooo perfect!! Initially snubbed my partners banh mi till he insisted I give it a try..... loved it! Bacon Bacon's version definitely holds it's own, should have traded half of my bird for the banh mi - will have to get my own next time. The chicharrón (not too salty) + sweet popcorn was the perfect pairing with the sandwiches. Would repeat when I return to the area.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
Got a fairly minor case of food poisoning from this place today after ordering the breakfast burrito. Big mistake. Don't waste your time, money or belly on this waste of space.
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Literally bacon on bacon! Service here is amazing and the food came out quickly They have freshly squeezed orange juice!! SOOO GOOD The porky fries were good but not enough pork on there for the fries, just a bit more would be nice and maybe some melted cheese on there would make it even better?! The burrito was good! Portioned really well with all the ingredients but it was missing maybe one thing to make it even better...
google avatar

Ivan F.

Yelp
Ironically the bacon portions were laughable. Wouldn't recommend this business. You can get a much better breakfast sandwich for $10.
google avatar

Jeff W.

Yelp
Been here dozens of times -- great quality food, variety of flavors/items, ready quickly, hardworking and friendly staff, reasonably priced
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
This is a cool place for a quick meal. I'm on keto so I was glad to get one of the breakfast bowls. The food is flavorful and the staff were very polite. I only live a mile from this restaurant so I'm looking forward to coming again soon!
google avatar

Caralynne J.

Yelp
Ouuuu bacon, who doesn't love bacon?! They were so nice, We didn't realize they closed at 230 and we got there 245 but they still let us order and made our food. They were were so feet. The fried Mac and cheese balls were bomb! It came with a spicy mayo sauce that I also used for my other food. I could've used more bacon in the breakfast tacos! The burrito had pork and gave it some good texture. Heard they're opening another spot on mission! That will be open a lot later. A good quick spot to grab some breakfast food. Definitely expected more creative bacon stuff! But would want to come back and maybe try the bacon bouquet or other stuff!
google avatar

Noah D.

Yelp
Not a fan of this place. The breakfast burrito my wife and I ordered was inedible. Something had spoiled and the taste was awful. We ate couple bites and had to throw it away. Bummer because this place was supposed to have a good BB.
google avatar

Varun P.

Yelp
I am not sure if this was a one time thing or not but I got a sausage, egg and cheese muffin from here. The sausage was RAW! It had not been cooked, the sandwich tasted awful and it was not worth the $9.50. When I was in the store, there were bugs flying all over their pastries. I pointed this out to the cashier and she merely shook her head to indicate that she knew. Won't be getting food here ever again
google avatar

Dylan E.

Yelp
This place has some of the best breakfast options in the area, and for some of the better prices you'd come to expect from San Francisco. The trade-off here is that the steep hills in the area become a real obstacle after indulging on this tasty, greasy pork.
google avatar

Ty S.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem really. I stumbled upon it and boy am I impressed. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and added bacon jam. YUMMY!! The jam was a little overpowering but considering they charge $1.50 to add it I definitely got my money's worth.
google avatar

erika e.

Yelp
So good! Had the Bird sandwich, house made pork rinds and house made caramel popcorn with bacon! Everything was delicious. The staff was also super sweet. I think I found a new gem:)

Yelp
Bacon bacon is pretty awesome! Tons of options. Very nice people. Had a lot of tasty treats. Will come back

Yelp
So I decided to get two burritos for lunch. Some of my coworkers thought I was being ridiculous, but I didn't care. (Apparently two burritos is too much?) I went ahead and did it anyways. Our office lunch delivery arrived by Caviar on Friday, April 20th around 12:30pm. *Bacon Fries: French fries tossed in herbs, parmesan, spicy olive oil, homemade bacon bits, and bacon jam served with a side of blue cheese vinaigrette ($7.50) *Breakfast Burrito: Scrambled egg, pork shoulder, bacon, avocado, and cheddar ($8.50) I got the breakfast burrito, but also tried some of my coworker's bacon fries. Both items were chock full of bacon and meat. The burrito was stuffed with filling which I appreciated. Not sure if they offer hot sauces at the location, but this was great with some heat. (I always have multiple hot sauces at my desk.) The fries were good, but suffered from the transport time as they were soggy. Still good flavor. Though they didn't deliver the blue cheese vinaigrette, so I was missing that cheesy element. Great breakfast burrito. If they were close to work, I'd get it more often. Maybe the next time Bacon Bacon rolls around as an office lunch option.
