Oof. Bad Walter, indeed.
Hate to say it, but this is one of the worst ice creams we've ever had (cue heartbreak). :( We LOVE the location, the fact that it's lactose free, and locally made. But It's so sweet it puckers your mouth & hurts your teeth. Even the kids agreed, and that's really saying something. Even with half the sugar it'd be too much. But the fact that Bad Walter is *actually bad* is just the beginning.
We waited in line for 40 minutes in the hot sun. When we reached the register, 2 of the 6 flavors were gone. Of the remaining, the one we wanted most, a grapefruit sorbet, was so soupy it wasn't serve-able. (We had to point that out, the server didn't.) The other flavors were also melted well before they hit the cone. Quick pro- tip about ice cream? It's supposed to be ICE.
Previous reviews confirm that the same thing has happened on other days, too. We tried to figure out if there was a hack so that our ridiculous wait (and sunburn) weren't in vain, but there were no pints in the freezer, either. There is also no system here - service is completely disorganized, not at all ready for an opening weekend. There were 2 overwhelmed people behind the counter trying to serve hundreds. There were zero systems in place to help with turnover. People sampled every flavor while everyone else baked outside in the sun. Kids stood at the counter for 15 minutes staring at every flavor, indecisive.
There are a million better ways to do this, one of which is to tell folks they can only have one sample, for example, or hand out menus before people reach the register so that they know what they're getting. (Other yelpers have thought of similarly creative solutions - owner, take heed.) If there isn't sufficient freezer space at the actual store, they could take a bunch of ice cream home and freeze it overnight to ensure they have enough for customers the next day. It also seems critical to make sure your ice cream is actually cold before serving it. Soooooooo many options here.
In any case, none of this really matters because the ice cream itself is a non-starter. As the woman ahead of us said as she exited, similarly disappointed, "you'd be better off with a carton of Häagen-Dazs."
Bad Walter, bad.
