Why Are There Suddenly So Many Chicken Restaurants? | Eater

"Opened this summer in Brooklyn by Henry Glucroft and Charles Gerbier, Badaboom presents itself as a small neighborhood French rotisserie where roast chicken (the clear bestseller) and steak frites anchor the menu; the visible rotisserie creates theater, and the restaurant also offers chicken schnitzel and chicken cordon bleu. A half chicken with potatoes is $32, a price that has prompted criticism given cheaper supermarket rotisserie options, and the owners have concerns about vulnerabilities such as avian flu and the reliance on egg-heavy items like their chocolate mousse." - Bettina Makalintal

The Brooklyn Hit List: The Best New Restaurants In Brooklyn - New York - The Infatuation

"Bed-Stuy is now home to two chicken restaurants: The Fly, and more recently Badaboom, which is like The Fly if it traveled to France, and then came back with a respect for gravy, and a desire to charge more. But the chicken isn’t even our favorite thing here—it’s the steak frites, with ruby-centered slices of bavette and a mound of perfect, golden-brown french fries. That, plus a side of butter-soaked green beans, and a bottle of wine off the French-leaning wine list, and you’ve got the sort of comforting meal you’ll return for again and again, especially if you live in the area." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, bryan kim, sonal shah

Chicken was delicious, served with potatoes which are not to be overlooked. I liked that the chicken came in a gravy of sorts, not just the drippings. Rice pudding is a different kind I’ve never had, almost whipped cream like. It was marshmallowy and perfect. Star of the show for me was the chicory salad on special. Really unbelievable, with these darkened almond pieces, olives, and a fab dressing. We even asked them to tell us more so we could try to recreate it at home! Very kind and accommodating folks. Will be back :)

Great space, loved all the details. Salad and bread & butter. A simple salad with the light dressing. It was a good way to get greens and couldn’t go wrong. The seasoning in the chicken was amazing. A perfect amount of salt an herbs. The steak frites I would honestly skip, something the flavor that I didn’t necessarily enjoy. And the fries were light on salt and crisp.

The food was delicious. I had the roasted chicken with carrots which was cooked perfectly and ordered the chicken schnitzel with fries for the kids I babysit and they loved it. Everything was fresh and flavorful and the portions were generous. Our server was amazing and made the whole experience even better. I will definitely be back.

Been looking forward to trying BADABOOM and they didn’t disappoint. We got the half roasted chicken and two steak frites to share between 3. The chicken was juicy and cooked well but personally wanted a touch more salt. The steak was tender and the fries were perfection. The haricot verts and roasted carrots were good side pieces. The vibes of the place were chill and welcoming. We sat at a table but I can always appreciate an open kitchen with counter seating space. The service is 100 and made our experience that much better 🤌. Great place for dinner with friends, conversations flow and so does the wine.

Don’t sleep on this spot! The vibe is fantastic, with playful décor that makes it feel instantly welcoming. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive or kind, and the natural wine selection was on point. But the real star was the rotisserie chicken. Juicy, tender, and paired with a sauce that was absolutely mind-blowing. The roasted potatoes soaking up all those flavors underneath were just perfection. We also tried the roasted carrots, which were lovely, and now we’re already planning our return trip, this time for the steak frites and half a chicken (since we ordered the whole chicken an was definitely two much for 2)

Met a great french gentleman who was the host there. Not only did he make great recs (tartare is exceptional), but he was kind and accommodating. The food (the chicken and potatoes) was beyond amazing, filled with flavor and HUGE portions. I would ofc recommend their famous potatoes and chicken and if you're a chocolate lover as for their chocolate salted dessert.

Google
Fantastic food & super caring / knowledgeable staff! You can really tell how much consideration has gone into developing the dishes, natural wines, and overall vibe. The menu is an excellent size too and everything is so shareable - though I could eat that rotisserie chicken every day. This area of Bed Stuy was missing a place like this for sure. Definitely a new local gem.

The beautiful thing about life is you can learn something everyday. I, for example, never would have thought orange wine and rotisserie chicken would pair so well together until I came to Badaboom. I made the push to Bed Stuy to meet Ryan from the Supervinobros on Instagram, as we bonded online over our respective niches of rotisserie chicken and wine. What a crazy sentence to type. We clicked right away, and began chopping it up about what a crazy place the internet is. As we were having a bro-down and becoming real life friends as opposed to just internet friends, my heart sank as I scanned the menu and saw the prices. A half roasted chicken with potatoes was $32, and a whole one was $58. $58 for a whole bird!?!?!?!! That’s the most expensive one I’ve ever seen. I immediately turned to him and whispered, “Bro I hate to be this guy and I know this is your spot, but $58 for a chicken is CRAZY. I don’t have to make a video because if I do I have to mention the price…” He said “Nah do it, at the end of the day they price it like this, so they have to be comfortable with people knowing.” Respect. Once my heart stopped racing, we took a look at the rest of the menu and the wine list. The wine list was his realm, and he began selling me on this orange wine that would pair well with the chicken. In the most confident tone he began describing the wine: “It’s from this north eastern Italian region that borders Slovenia that is one of the cradles of the natural wine movement and they ferment the grapes this certain way because” yadda yadda yadda. I tried to keep up, but it was a different language to me. It was like Neil deGrasse Tyson explaining astrophysics to a 5th grader. After he finished his dissertation, I said “Yup that sounds great!” We settled on a whole chicken w/ potatoes ($58), roasted carrots ($14), and Asparagus ($16). Once I got past the sticker shock, this chicken was pretty damn good. Oddly enough, in my quest to find the best chicken in New York City I haven’t hit many French restaurants, which is ironic because France is the birthplace of the Tissi. This chicken was absolutely delectable. It was a light, herb-based seasoning with a subtle buttery flavor. It was cooked perfectly, with even the breast being extremely tender. I’ve found a tender breast harder to find than one of the Legendary Pokemon. The wine paired so well with it too. I can’t say it was worth $58, but there is no bird on the planet I’d pay that for. The potatoes were also phenomenal, as they sit under the chicken in the rotisserie oven and collect all the juices falling off. All in all, I’m thankful for this experience. We need to add this duo to the greats: Shrek and Donkey, Kobe and Shaq, Danson and Highsmith, and orange wine and rotisserie chicken. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Yelp
We didn't have any major expectations coming here as they've only been open 2.5 months. But we've passed by it a few times and from what we could tell it looked really good. I have to say tonight was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. I couldn't put my finger on it exactly, but I felt the flavors were all perfectly mixed. And the there was a lot of thought put into all the dishes and the wines. The portion sizes.. whoa!! The biggest and the best chicken schnitzel I've had in the years I've been on earth. It's pretty much as large as the plate. It was just two of us, so we got a bottle of crémant, chicken schnitzel as recommended by Tsziah (we had the pleasure of him taking care of us, quite a lovely person), haricot verts, fries, house mayo and the pesto. For those that ever complain about dishes not having enough salt to their taste - I never understand it, but I think they probably don't cook at home. If something is ever undersalted ask your server for a side of sea salt (e.g., maldon in this case). A little goes a long way for chicken or other dishes. The atmosphere here is also charming. We only live a couple of blocks away so will be back here lots. So excited it's a new addition to the neighborhood and highly recommended!

Yelp
Came here during the week with a couple of friends. The place is a bit small but the decor is very aesthetically pleasing with its clean and minimal look. I loved being able to see into the kitchen. The service was excellent. The waitress was very attentive and welcoming. Now in terms of food, I was a bit disappointed. The bread and seasonal butter was just cold bread with salted butter. We ordered the rotisserie chicken with haricot vert (green string beans) in a butter sauce. Everything needed salt. It was so bland. Luckily we also ordered French fries which were delicious and would def order again. Overall I do still plan on coming back to try the chicken schnitzel and steak frites. I'm just a bit bummed the rotisserie chicken fell flat in my opinion.

Yelp
Badaboom won me over right away. The staff was warm and attentive, and the wine list is terrific. I sampled both white and sparkling varietals and loved every sip. I came specifically for the chicken schnitzel and it did not disappoint. It was crispy, juicy, and perfectly balanced by the fresh green salad served alongside. I also tried the fries and roast carrots, both excellent, especially when dipped in the house mayo (don't skip it!). The vibe is lively, an ideal spot for either a date night or a relaxed evening with friends.

Yelp
Badaboom is a French-inspired restaurant that focuses on rotisserie chicken and French-influenced comfort food. The menu is very straightforward, offering main entrees, sides, saucse, and dessert. Our party ordered: +the Roasted Chicken - you can choose between a half or a whole chicken, in which we opted for the latter; this came with roasted potatoes as well +Chicken Schnitzel +and, the Steak Frites - a 7 oz bavette We also added the Haricots Vert, Roasted Carrots, and bread served with seasonal butter. We finished with their Mousse au Chocolat, which was a nice ending to our meal. Service was friendly and attentive, and the place itself is cozy, dim-lit, and great for small get-togethers or for date nights! Look for the blue corner location! They also have a few tables set outside for those who prefer al fresco dining. +rotisserie chicken +shareable plates +friendly & attentive staff
