Beer, cider and pizza served in a spacious brewery with patio seating.
"Along with Nil and Ardor several blocks up, Company is helping turn Southeast Belmont into Portland’s go-to avenue for atmospheric natty wine. The interior captures the casual, chill vibe of a friend’s converted garage with cinderblock walls, patterned rugs, and fold-down chairs, but adds in stand-out touches like a glowing, backlit countertop menu and elegant, non-traditional stemware to elevate the space to a sleek, sophisticated bar and bottle shop. With indoor and outdoor seating that seamlessly blends in warm weather thanks to a roll-up garage door, Company offers fresh by-the-glass options each week like Georgian oranges and Oregon reds, as well as full bottles to-go or to-stay. Make sure to watch out for frequent events like “vino and vinyl” or reading evenings." - Zoe Baillargeon, Alex Frane
"Baerlic, meaning “of barley” in Old English, produces a lineup of traditional standards, but also pushes boundaries in both its style and process, as exemplified by the omnipresent Dad Beer Lager and the seasonal Dark Thoughts Black IPA, which is 6.66 percent ABV. It’s an iconoclast in terms of its space, opting for a sleek café aesthetic combined with an open ceiling concept, featuring a faux-hedge obscuring a section of booth seating. Baerlic shares a space, dubbed The Piehall with square pizza fave Ranch PDX, at the Southeast taproom." - Ron Scott
"With its light wood furniture and bright, modern vibe, Baerlic feels more like a café than your standard brewery; but when it comes to your drink, don't expect a flat white. The brewery looks to the past to inform the present, with beers rooted in the simplicity of malted barley, water, and hops, though they're no means bound by that. Although there's the occasional unconventional beer on the menu, most will be recognizable and straightforward: a super-dry IPA, a Northwest-style pilsner, an imperial stout, or a classic pale ale, all made with consideration and aplomb. This is a perfect kick-off point for a bar crawl around town." - Alexander Frane
"What's the vibe here? Baerlic feels more like a café than your standard brewery. The long, tunnel-shaped space is awash with light wood furniture, creating a bright, modern vibe that's aided by a wall of windows on one side. The bar is small, a window opposite the front door has a few seats, and guests are spread out with pints and board games. Who can we expect to see here? Folks on a bar crawl or groups of friends who live in the neighborhood. What should we be drinking? Baerlic looks to the past to inform the present; the beers here are rooted in the simplicity of malted barley, water, and hops, though they're no means bound by that. Although there's the occasional unconventional beer on the menu, most will be recognizable and straightforward: a super-dry IPA, a Northwest-style pilsner, an imperial stout, or a classic pale ale, all made with consideration and aplomb. What do they have for food? There's no kitchen—just nuts and pretzels. But there are plenty of options in the area, from burritos and bánh mì on Division to the Hawthorne food carts. And how's the service? It's almost always friendly, informative, and whoever you're talking to is happy to recommend their favorites. So what would you recommend Baerlic for, and why? The laid-back vibe, bright space, and well-made familiar beers make Baerlic an excellent place for a get-together with friends after a long week. It's also a perfect kick-off point for a bar crawl or brewery tour." - Alexander Frane
"Baerlic Brewing has joined forces with Sicilian-meets-Detroit-style pizzeria Ranch PDX in their expansive new indoor beer garden they’ve dubbed a “piehall.” The 6,000-square-foot space once home to Ladd Taphouse sits next door to Baerlic’s flagship location in Southeast Portland, serving thick slabs of pizza alongside crisp pilsners. Baerlic had been closed for indoor consumption since the beginning of the pandemic, but had opened a large outdoor beer garden with picnic tables out back along 10th Avenue. As the season of uncovered patio drinking has now come to an end, their piehall has opened just in time." - Ron Scott
