10 Local-Favorite Bars and Restaurants Around Nashville | Eater

"At most restaurants, french fries are a side dish, but at Bag Lady’s, crispy potatoes are the main event. Here, the kitchen crafts delectable dishes served on sheet pans covered by fries, piled high with toppings like crispy Nashville hot chicken, smoked brisket, or chicken tenders, topped with bacon, cheese, and ranch dressing. You can even get funnel cake fries dusted with powdered sugar for a sweet treat to complete your meal. The Black-owned North Nashville restaurant is named in honor of the co-founders’ grandmothers who were famous for their hand-cut fries served in brown paper bags." - Chris Chamberlain

5 Black-Owned Restaurants in Nashville Serving Up Iconic Comfort Food | Eater

"At many restaurants, french fries are just an afterthought. However, at Bag Lady’s, fries are the star of the show. Ordered plain with a dusting of Bag Lady’s proprietary seasoning blend or topped with nacho cheese and bacon, these crispy fried potatoes will make you wonder why all fries can’t be this good. Loaded versions come with ladles of brisket, bacon, Philly cheesesteak, gyro meat, fried or grilled chicken, or meatless crumbles hiding the potatoes below. Finish off your order with one of their signature drizzles like spicy ranch or smoky barbecue." - Chris Chamberlain

Korean Fried Chicken Chain Bonchon Heads to Nashville Suburbs and 5 More Restaurants to Look Forward to in 2022 | Eater Nashville

"I learned that Bag Lady’s Chip & Fry Co., a French fry–focused food truck founded by Nashville brothers James and Brandon Littleton during the early days of the pandemic, is opening a permanent spot this spring and is known for piled-high fries, nachos, and chicken; they’ll continue normal operations on the food truck and catering side and plan to open more locations in the future." - Delia Jo Ramsey

Food was amazingly delicious! So tasty, we ordered the "smoked brisket fries & the Gyro fries" I am not much of a fry person myself but I must say I authentically enjoyed them. Great portion size, Rustic Ambience, they played Lauren hill & cashier provided great service she was really attentive. We will definitely be returning.

Food was sooo good. And I think his name was DaMicheal... idk after tasting the food all I know is he is DAMAN !! Every thing was fresh hot and flavorful. It was 5 of us ans everyone loved their food. The only issue is the women's bathroom smelled awful

Google
We absolutely loved our visit! First off, the free parking was surprisingly nicer than the paid options nearby; super clean and well-kept, which made a great first impression. The 90s theme was spot-on, from the hanging sneakers to the VHS tapes;it brought back so many memories and added a fun, nostalgic vibe. The cashier was incredibly patient and kind, especially with me and my two kids (which is always appreciated!). The kids really enjoyed their meals, and that alone makes it a win in my book. As for the brisket, it was okay. Being from Alabama, we’re used to it being a bit more tender, so it took a little more chewing than we’re used to. But that’s just a regional thing, and it didn’t take away from the overall experience. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!

Google
My daughter recommended this place based on TikTok. We were touring Tennessee State where she is considering college and needed to find some good eats. This place did NOT disappoint. The food was fresh, reasonably quick, and fantastic. The loaded brisket fries are to die for. No really, I love BBQ but the tenderness of the brisket and the other flavors added just marry together perfectly. The service was quick to take our order and brought it right out when it was done. They played great music, the walls had plenty to look at. I can't find one thing to say to make it better. Definitely have to stop in and try this place if you haven't tried it yet!

Food was fresh and really good. Loved the personal greeting at the door. Liked the natural aesthetic/decorations. Love to support black-owned businesses. All good music and vibes while sitting in the restaurant. 🤎💪🏾

Walking in was a real nice vibe in the middle of the afternoon. Retro feel. I just got the regular fries and they were hot and tasty. The menu is crazy and I would have ordered more of I didn't just want plain fries.

Google
Dear Nashville, stick to hot chicken and let Memphis reign in wings because if this is what you consider 4 out of 5 stars, my flabbers are gasted! I ordered a 10 piece lemon pepper and fries. The flavor was more salt than seasoning and the wings had feathers, copious feathers. I'm a country gal, I know how to pluck a feather and keep moving, but I ain't plucking the WHOLE bird. The best part of the meal was the fresh but ordinary fries. Nashville, Lady Fry's I was rooting for you, but I would like my root back because this was disrespectful. Bless your salty, feathered heart.

Google
Absolute favorite spot for a burger n fries in Nashville hands down. Burger was juicy, seasoned, with fresh toppings, and cooked to perfection. The Tex-Mex Fries were delicious.. Highly recommended! 🤌🏽

Yelp
Just wow. Bag Lady's blew me away! The burger was massive, juicy, and packed with flavor--easily one of the best I've had in a long time. But what really stood out was the fries. They offer several options, and every one we tried was great, but the brisket fries were next level--crispy, savory, and totally addictive. The cherry on top? The service. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we walked in. You can tell they care about the experience as much as the food. If you're anywhere nearby, this place is a must. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Baabby!!!! The dynamic duo showed up with their food truck to our solar farm and showed out!!!!!!! They were able to cater our lunch on short notice, drove an hour to serve the food, arrived early, were very pleasant, and professional. Their food was FANTASTIC!!!! Everyone LOVED the loaded fries! This was some of the BEST catered food we have had on site. I will have them cater food for us again!!!!

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite to eat while out of town for a volleyball tournament. Although they were short staffed, the manager was SUPER friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a bar and both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is very unique with several different loaded fry options. The food was unique yet excellent. My son loved his chicken bacon ranch fries and my husband throughly enjoyed his brisket fries. He added ranch to the brisket fries and it tasted like a loaded baked potato with extras. Give them a try if you are ever in the area.

Yelp
Fantastic! Popular spot.. Friendly staff, wonderful selection. Locals were friendly and pointed out other points of interest. Definitely plan to return. Brisket fries perfect blend of flavors. A month later I can taste it! They are doing well by their Grandmothers' legacies. A must visit!

Yelp
After catching wind that this place might serves a decent meal I grabbed a friend and headed down. I ordered the Beef in the Streets, It's a Nashville Thang, No Cap and 8 Wings. I mean we're big boys so let's try this. Our buffet arrived perfectly spaced so everything was fresh and hot. If I had to put them in the order of my preference I'd say Beef in the Streets and the Wings were my favorite. Great wings!! The Nashville Thang and No Cap were both excellent as well. As you can see by the pictures the large sizes are healthy servings.... And purdy. The staff was helpful in explaining how it worked.... I must have had the ole deer in the headlight look. Will I return? Absolutely! This is definitely a need to try place!!

Anita W.

Yelp
I ordered from this establishment for lunch and the only thing good I can say is the delivery arrived early. The food was awful. I ordered the brisket fries, the chilli cheese dog, onions rings, garlic parm wings, and the funnel cake fries. Everything was colder than my toilet seats in the winter time. There was no garlic or parm on the chicken wings just some nasty looking greasy flavorless sauce. The fries which seemed like frozen fries, were old and stale, t tasting and unseasoned and the brisket on top was clumped together into one blanket like lump and was dried out. The brisket sandwich tasted halfway decent but it was the size of a slider and the bread it was on looked like that we get at Walmart or Save A lot. It didn't have any pickles and I had to add extra sauce. The onion rings were beer battered which would've been nice had they not been frozen, cold, completely limp and soggy, and old tasting. The chilli cheese hot dog wasn't much better. I searched and searched and found not one shred or slice of cheese or drop of actually chilli. I found chilli beans and a liquid greasy substance that the half burnt half crushed bun had absorbed and went completely soggy. The hot dog was big and meaty but could have used more char. The funnel cake fries were horrendous. They taste like the French fries and onion rings so probably fried in the same oil. They were cold stale, and tougher than leather. The powdered sugar they were overly drenched in was clumpy/lumpy, and hard as a freaking rock! 10 OUT OF 10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Yelp
The food was great but when we walked in we were not sure who worked there. We were then assisted after a few minutes.

Yelp
The food, service and ambience was amazing!! We received quick, friendly service and our food was delicious! Will definitely be back again next time I'm in Nashville.

Yelp
We seen the reviews so we decided to try this restaurant. It's is conveniently located close to the interstate. There is a mix of good neighborhood with older neighborhood. You order at counter and then take a seat. The fries were very delicious! Some of the best I've had. I had chicken tenders which are thick and have a tasty batter. It's crispy and full of spices. My husband had a hamburger which he said was good. It seems like a step up from a fast food restaurant placed in the middle of an older neighborhood. We visited on a Sunday and had good service although you just serve yourself your own drinks. There is a bar but we didn't order any drinks. The decor is fun and there is ample parking in the back and you can enter from the back door. It must be a neighborhood favorite because while we were there door dash came and neighborhood kids walked in to eat.

Yelp
This makes no sense how flavorful this It's a Tennessee Thang bowl is over fried cauliflower. I mean really. It is absolutely delicious and has several textures. Brisket! Yum. I also think the cauliflower will reheat better than fries. A Bite sized meal is hearty enough for me. The staff is helpful to the overwhelmed and the owner and managers ask to ensure that you've enjoyed your meal, which gives it the family touch. I will definitely return. The ambiance is clean and collegiate. The music is a little loud but I like to sing and the songs are similar to my playlist so it's all good.

Yelp
Bag Lady's Fry Joint is hands down one of the best spots in Nashville for comfort food done right! From the moment I walked in, the staff was friendly, the atmosphere was inviting, and the food? Incredible. I ordered the It's a Tennessee Thang, and WOW. The brisket was so flavorful, seasoned just right, and paired beautifully with the bbq sauce and fries. Every bite was packed with flavor! I also had the Chicken Bacon Ranch Fries, and they were absolutely next level--crispy fries loaded with juicy chicken, crispy bacon, and just the right amount of ranch. So indulgent and so worth it! If you're in Nashville and craving some seriously delicious fried goodness, this is the place to go. I'll definitely be back to try more!
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
The restaurant was very clean and the staff was extremely nice. The food was great! The loaded brisket fries savory and sweet which is my favorite flavor combo. Also I'm really big on texture which was something that they excel. I will definitely be returning

Yelp
Winner, winner. The spin on French fries is a really good idea. Everything was fresh and well-prepared. The flavors and choices leave the imagination wide open to explore all sorts of flavors and combinations. They welcome mixing and matching, deleting and adding ingredients to your liking. Really nice staff. They all seem to love working there. The cashier seemed to be the owner, with how passionate and excited he was presenting their menu. An awesome find!

Yelp
I finally got to try Bag Lady's. I've had this restaurant on my list for a while. I ordered the C.B.R. loaded fries without bacon. It was cooked to order. The fries were still crispy with all of the toppings, and they give you a nice portion size, more than what I could eat. I love the 80's and 90's theme in the restaurant. It brought back so memories.

Heather E.

Yelp
It was me and my husbands first time here . We were in town for the Lady Vols vs Vanderbilt game. The owner was super nice and explained the menu to us . Even allowed me to create a loaded fry that wasnt on the menu. The setting was chill and laid back and we watched college basketball and NFL on the big screens . The food was delicious and we will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
I typically do not make french fries the basis or foundation of my meals, but this was fun and the food was delicious. I had the brisket. I think it was the Tennessee dish.

Yelp
It's time to update this review after visiting Bag Lady's brick and mortar store in the heart of North Nashville. Smack dab in the middle of two northside legends - Slim & Husky's and Ed's Fish House - newcomer Bag Lady's Fry Joint has become yet another stunningly good eatery on Buchanan. There are so many secret spots around Music City, but this could be the ultimate hidden gem in town! Crispy fries with every imaginable topping are the feature here, some of which made my top 50 dishes to eat in the city. But now that I've tasted their funnel cake fries, that dish vaulted into my top 15 things to eat in Nashville! The employees are friendly, the food is fantastic, and more Nashvillians need to find this spot
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the staff were excellent. Very friendly. I highly recommend the Nashville Hot fries!

Yelp
This is a cool concept, I loved the fries and the costumer's service was excellent!!!!! I will definitely be back to this place.

Yelp
My friend and I were actually headed to another place to eat and saw this spot. It looked inviting and cool so we turned around and changed the plan. Heads up right now, this place can get pretty crowded as it gets later in the night so prepare to wait in line and maybe eat in your carthey make everything fresh to order so it'll take some time to get your food but it's worth it. We got there around 6:30/7 and there was a line but that line just got much longer as we were there. So the vibe in here is great! A cool, local black-owned business. This would definitely be a nice date spot. It seems they basically just opened this location. There's tons of different options for loaded fries and I believe you can build your own. They have meatless options too. The portion sizes are perfect, just enough that you can finish it because we all know you can't reheat loaded fries. Now onto what we ordered... C. B. R. (chicken bacon ranch): 4/5. It was really good! I don't love ranch but this spicy ranch is just right. The components were very balanced (right amount of chicken to fries to toppings ratio). The flavor was spot on. I would've liked it more if the cheese was actually melted on the fries. I do appreciate that they used actual cheese, not cheese sauce like some places do. 61 Fry Basket (tenders and fries): 3.5/5. Fries were solid of course. The tenders were well breaded and the breading was well seasoned. The chicken could've been juicier and more chicken. The pieces were a little thin. Pro tip: get the 24K for dipping. Beef in the Streets: 4.5/5. Flavor was amazing. The balance of the soft meat with the crispy fries was great. If anything, the fries could've been crispier but no other complaints. Overall we'll definitely be coming back! I plan on trying the It's a Tennessee Thang next. Also right now they only have beer and ciders (got the diskin cider which was good!), but they're working on cocktails. Can't wait to come back and try some!

Daryl D.

Yelp
If you don't like fries...you will. Hidden gem in Nashvegas with a great story and service. Plus they have games to play while you process the delicious starch.
google avatar

Becky Y.

Yelp
In the mood for fries? Bag Lady's is your place! Their fries are a meal in itself. They are perfectly prepared and seasoned, then just choose how you want to load them up! The Tennessee Thang is a brisket wonder down to the fries and onion rings. Loaded fries are truly loaded - and they do not skimp on the bacon! Biggest chicken tenders I have ever seen plus they were delicious. One small criticism: the bottom bun on the burger was soggy and it was difficult to pick up tho the flavor was great. But that was a small thing because we were there for the fries and those are five star worthy. They have just moved to a new location on Buchanan in the Arts District and the new restaurant is beautiful. Paid lot on the side but continue to the back where parking is free. Had a lovely conversation with the owner Derrick. Amazing family business with his two sons. There are two prominent pictures of his mother and mother-in-law who have been their inspiration. Such a great legacy. This is what makes dining in Nashville special.

Roberta G.

Yelp
Decided to stop in here after making a wrong turn and what a great treat it was! The general manager went above & beyond to provide excellent & friendly service! Don't pass this one up! Fries were AMAZING with a unique flavoring that made you keep eating more!
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
When we decided to go to Nashville we had our niece pick some restaurants. This was one of them. The customer service was amazing. The young man at the counter was super knowledgeable and very patient. My niece and I both got the CBR with spicy ranch. My husband got the one with the brisket. We all loved the food. The sauces were not overpowering. There was just enough toppings and the fries were still crisp. Quaint little spot with a food truck following. I especially like the non-carbonated drink station. I don't really like soda so the lemonade, punch & teas were nice welcome. We had missed the lunch rush so it wasn't crowded. Great little spot check them out.
google avatar

Olivia M.

Yelp
A hidden gem with such loaded fries. Very heavy on the meals service was pretty quick and quality was awesome

Caroline S.

Yelp
I've been comming here since I moved to Nashville and it is one of my favorite restaurants...The food is great and my go to is the Nashville hot loaded fries.Every time I come in the customer service is top tier hats off to the employees who greet me with a smile every-time.
google avatar

Julian R.

Yelp
I'm definitely guilty of going to this place one to two times a week. The loaded fries are delicious! The service is quick and the customer service is good. The young gentleman who takes orders is very patient and can provide recommendations if you are unsure of that to order. I always get jalapeños on mine which adds a little kick. My favorites have been beef in the streets and it's a Tennessee thang. I will have to try a chicken dish again, but I recalled it being a little dry. I have yet to try the funnel cake fries and burgers at the joint. The inside does have plenty of seating as well as a bar and TVs available to watch a game. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys loaded fries.
google avatar

Candice W.

Yelp
My experience here at Bag Lady's was Wonderful. I would definitely be back to this place. The Food was Delicious!!!! I the hospitality and service was Amazing!!! The gentlemen who were working here are very pleasant. The atmosphere was relaxing and chilled. 5 star all the way!!!

William P.

Yelp
Awesome food, nice atmosphere, nice staff, a bit pricey but not too bad. Definitely worth a try.
google avatar

Indigo P. N.

Yelp
FYE..... Just FYE. FYE. FYE! I got the fries with shrimp and spinach! It had some kind of sauce on it. And for it to be 90+ degrees, this did not leave me feeling stuffed and bloated. I'll be looking for them again to try other menu options. FYI. Their line stayed long. So be prepared! But worth the wait!
google avatar

Alvin S.

Yelp
The burger was delicious and the Cajun fries was hitting - I will come back - service was good and had a nice patio
google avatar

Erin C.

Yelp
We love Bag Lady's!! The fries are always crispy and perfect, and I have not found a fry topping that I have not liked. I went through the whole menu and everything is SOO good! Of course I have to get the side sauces (the hot sauce and gold sauce are *chefs kiss* perfection). I was surprised to learn that they also have sliders and chicken tenders, which are ALSO amazing, but my heart belongs to those fries The story of Bag Lady's is a lovely one, and I am glad that we got to learn about its creation. I am SO glad that they are set up right around the corner. I have never had a meal here that I did not adore. Friendly staff, clean dining areas and restrooms, this place is seriously 10/10.
google avatar

Wyatt L.

Yelp
The food here is excellent. Fries are always fresh and the hot sauce in the chop hits. The funnel cake fries might put me in the grave they are so good. I especially like that they have a selection of local beers on tap, as well as unique specialty cocktails. This is a great patio to hang out at on a nice day, or a great place to watch a game. The staff are super friendly so you feel welcome spending time there. I love seeing new a family owned business thrive in north Nashville!

Joe S.

Yelp
What a great little gem just a few miles from the Nashville Clay Shooting Complex. If you are there for a competition, put this place on your list for lunch or dinner. I think it's probably a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Nashville, definitely worth it. Now for the good stuff, the FOOD! Great selection of food, check out their menu. I got the Brisket fries, my wife got a burger, my son got the brisket sandwich. The fries are freshly cut and then fried, NOT frozen crap. Were lightly salted and seasoned. I ate most of my son's(he doesn't really like fries). My entree had a base of fries, covered with a generous amount of brisket and bacon, topped off with an onion ring and BBQ sauce. I skipped the Carolina sauce, but I tried my wife's, and instantly regretted not getting it. I think it would have greatly complimented the BBQ sauce. Next time! My wife said the burger was good and my son loved the brisket sandwich. Both looked great. The bigger pieces of brisket easily pulled apart and were delicious. I never use BBQ sauce on my meat, so I can't really speak to it, but seemed to have a little heat to it, and tasted good with everything. Service was great, we were greeted when we walked in, and they answered our questions when we ordered. Young lady also checked in on us after we started eating. Interior was very clean and modern. Had good music playing in the background, not too loud. They have some outdoor seating as well. Bottom line: 3 entrees, 3 drinks $50. Great deal for fresh, delicious food. Skip the fast food, spend like $10 more, for a QUALITY meal and support an obvious small, local business. We can't wait for the next competition to come back.
google avatar

Linda W.

Yelp
Yummy generous portions of various combinations of "loaded" fries. Quick, friendly service. Clean spacious dining area. The sports TV was a bit loud for my taste but does not deter me from returning for more of their delicious food. My compadres went for carnivorous choices-which they gladly devoured-while my vegetarian dish was scrumptious & filling.
google avatar

Chay W.

Yelp
Finally tried Bag Lady's and I was pleasantly surprised by the food and staff. First the restaurant was a vibe from the music to the decor. Second the food is really good. We tried the Beef in the streets with no cheese and fye-fye sauce on the side. It was so good. The fries were crispy and the Philly was well seasoned. We also had the funnel cake fries with strawberry drizzle. They were also amazing with the right balance of sweet. Overall I would definitely recommend this spot and I can't wait to go back and try something else.
google avatar

Maya R.

Yelp
Hit different. That's the experience - and yes, experience. I give this place a 5 stars for a combination of reasons: first, the loaded fries absolutely slapped, we tried 3 different ones ~ CBR, It's a Tennessee Thang and Truckload Coming In. My favorite was the Tennessee, I loved the sweet, tang of the 24K sauce with the bacon and brisket. The CBR was okay, the cheese was a lil too thiq for me and I didn't taste much bacon. Portion size is solid, I got the smalls of each and still couldn't finish it. Second, the employees were so helpful in breaking down the menu. I didn't catch her name but I'm def returning to shout out the kind lady at the cashier! Third, the aesthetics were everything. Every corner of the restaurant felt photo-op worthy with pops of red, black and white, giving a retro-feel. Other things: Free parking is available on the side of the building, bar and regular seating available. No crazy wait time at 3pm. Can't wait to return to try other items on the menu!
google avatar

Mae D.

Yelp
Dope concept, aesthetically pleasing, delicious fried with a twist, excellent service! Will be back!

Teri L.

Yelp
I got a burger, chili cheese fries and the funnel cake fries. Everything was sooooo good! Funnel cake fries are amazing and perfectly cooked! Staff was so welcoming and very nice!
google avatar

Daynna G.

Yelp
Amazing food! The service was great too. They have two sizes for loaded fries. I got the larger one and it was a little bigger than I could eat but the small didn't seem like it would have been enough so I took the leftovers to go. They had fun bartenders that were dancing and having a good time. We didn't drink but these are exactly the type of people l'd want serving drinks if we had. I had the chicken bacon fried and they were super good. The food comes out quickly and the fried somehow stay crispy even with all of the toppings. Definitely o great experience. So surprised we hadn't heard about this place prior. There is free parking in the back, but even if it's full the paid parking on the side is only $6 for 4 hours which in Nashville is super cheap!
google avatar

Catherine P.

Yelp
I finally found time to go check them out....and they did not disappoint! Customer Service was on point (10 stars) The food was AMAZING (I will try something different every time I visit!) Their portions matched their price. It was a nice evening so I chose to sit outside, and it was clean and welcoming (as well as the inside) You should definitely check them out for yourself!

Yelp
Brought my family and friends and everyone loved it. Something for everyone, super fun decor and even a basket of books for kids!

Yelp
Visiting from California and these fries are honestly the best fries I've ever had. Delicious

Yelp
This place is off the beaten path, but we'll worth the trip! They have eat in, order out and delivery options.... try it anyway you can!!! My husband and I stopped in for a quick lunch and couldn't get over how amazing the food was!!! The staff was very helpful.and even I was worried about the Nashville hot being too hot, he gave me a sample to be sure I liked it. They have it set up in a perfect way to enjoy the great music, bar and food!!! Don't walk.... run to this place!!!!!!

Charlene H.

Yelp
Enjoyed a casual meal at Bag Lady's Fry Joint and I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the brisket fries and the lemon pepper wings. Service was good, too. Overall, a great experience.

Yelp
Customer Service was great. Clean establishment. I ordered the Chicken Bacon Ranch fries. Food was very tasteful ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

Yelp
Stayed at nearby hotel and found this gem on yelp. Amazing Philly cheesesteak fries and chicken Caesar wrap. Delivered promptly and fresh. Another yummy yelp find

Yelp
Where do I start... 1. The workers were super nice and explained the menu and answered all of our questions. 2. Clean, clean, clean. This place was so clean I wasn't worried about a sticky table or drink station. 3. Open seating available and plenty of options (high bar or tables with bench seats and chairs. 4. We were the 1st customers of the day on Saturday. We placed our order and ate in 45 mins. 5. We ordered "The Block is Hot", "The Tennessee Thang" and "C.B.R." 6. The Block is Hot- so dang good. I don't like super hot chicken and this was not spicy hot at all. Just enough heat to satisfy but not overwhelming. 7. The Tennessee Thang- Brisket was cooked well and the Drizzle was damn good. Nice chunks of Brisket too. 8. C.B.R.- I added grilled onions and peppers to it and it was delicious. Overall, I would recommend this to any fry lover or lover of good food. My personal favorite was "The Block is Hot"
