Disappointed at the New "Gosman's" in Montauk
I've been going to Gosman's Dock in Montauk with my family for decades. It was always a casual, family-friendly place where you could enjoy fresh seafood, a salty breeze, and a sunset without breaking the bank or needing a dictionary to decode the menu.
That's why last night's experience at the newly rebranded Bagatelle Montauk was such a letdown.
We walked in hoping for the same welcoming vibe, but instead were met with a French fine-dining concept--menus in French with English subtitles, an overly curated atmosphere, and prices that made us feel like we were in Manhattan, not the Montauk waterfront.
I ordered a simple martini with two olives and was served a small, precious glass with a lemon twist--and a $28 price tag. Honestly, it was the most expensive martini I've ever had, and certainly not the most memorable (for the right reasons). After that round of drinks, we decided to leave. It just wasn't the place for us anymore.
I understand change happens, but it's disappointing when it comes at the cost of charm, accessibility, and local spirit. For longtime fans of the original Gosman's, be warned: this is not the same place.
