Bagatelle at Gosman's Montauk

My husband and I went for dinner, then brunch not realizing there wasn't a different brunch menu. Although dinner service was a bit slow, the food and ambiance were exceptional. When we returned the following day for brunch sitting outside on a 80 degree day enjoying the refreshing Montauk sea breeze, there was nothing better. We felt like we were transported to St. Tropez. It really is an outstandingly beautiful space that would make you feel good just being there. We've been visiting Gosman's for 17 years and had no idea what to expect from this change. It's a beautifully elevated experience.

I was genuinely curious to see if this location could capture the charm and energy of Bagatelle St. Tropez — unfortunately, it fell short in several key areas. The setting is undeniably beautiful and the ambiance is thoughtfully designed, but the experience didn’t live up to the expectations associated with the Bagatelle brand. Service felt inexperienced and transactional. Waitstaff seemed focused on upselling — often recommending dishes in descending price order rather than guiding us based on what we might enjoy. There was also noticeable pressure to finish our wine quickly, which detracted from a relaxed dining experience. While the food wasn’t bad, the value proposition was off. Portions were surprisingly small given the price point, particularly after being told the menu was designed for sharing “family style.” For instance, the pasta dish wouldn’t satisfy even a small child. Overall, it felt more like a branded imitation than a true extension of the Bagatelle experience. Carrying the name comes with certain expectations — of hospitality, quality, and atmosphere — and unfortunately, this location didn’t quite deliver. I won’t be returning, but I hope the team takes this feedback to elevate the experience for future guests.

i struggle to rate this place fairly because things all are all over the place. first off, vibes are amazing with a Mediterranean vibe strongly going on and fantastic music throughout the night. Love that the service team dance and join in the festivities as well. What irks me is that we only got our food at 1130pm for a 9pm reservation, even after checking in multiple times. The food itself is decadent and priced high, which i would have been okay with if it came on time, but the severe delay penalised this restaurant a lot imo. They got to figure out their kitchen ops.

Such a strange place. Maybe still getting things worked out since it's so new. First prob- we arrived on time for 7:00 res. on a Thursday. Hostess greets us and another woman dashes up to her telling her to not seat anybody. Huh? The place is 1/3 full. An argument ensues between them being carried out literally 3 feet from us. "Even if they have reservation?" "Yes, even with reservation." There was literally no attempt to NOT have this discussion in front of us. Despite this, we were seated promptly at a nice table. Decor is breezy, beachy and airy in a lovely setting, so 5 stars there. Very good cocktails and mocktails, too. Moving on to dinner service, the food was excellent start to finish. No complaints at all. Yes, expensive but I knew that. Then after an hour or so a DJ proceeds to set up nearby. Initially plays relatively easy music but by 8:30 the volume has been cranked up (urged on by a manager?) and the music shifted to blasting club music for the final half hour we were there, but no one occupying the small dance floor. (A couple waitresses appeared to dance briefly, to give people the idea?) The place seems to aspire to nightclub status but not many tables occupied by the time we left about 9:30. So overall kind of schitzy. Is it fine dining? Is it a club? Clientele did not look like club goers (families with kids and grandparents, couples) and I only saw a couple tables of younger people seated in the 8:30-9 range. So we feel confused and maybe they are too. Excellent food. Excellent servers. Rude event at hostess stand. DJ was odd and not reading the room. I wish them well due to the excellent food. Mixed feelings overall, so going with 4 stars due to food and service, knocked down from 5 due to hostess event and club music blaring by the end.

I was really excited to come here, however it was quite disappointing for a number of reasons. Half of the food dishes were cold when they came out, the waitresses were barely trained and dropping dishes everywhere, let alone we were the only people in the restaurant. They tried their best and were great but when you are paying premium prices the expectations are more, we requested 2 songs with the DJ and with our table being the only one in the whole restaurant he didn’t play the songs. It just all seems bizarre for a brand new restaurant and no one else in it. Eliza was brilliant and really improved the experience, however I wouldn’t recommend until they find their feet and improve like the normal Bagatelle experience.

Funny they deleted my review from the summer. This place is a downgrade from the spot previously here. And it’s the worst restaurant in Montauk. With less than five other groups dining on an early Saturday afternoon, it took more than an hour for our food to come out. There were four of us and one even had to wait closer to an hour and 45 min for their lobster pasta to come out. At this point the rest of us were done eating so we got to sit there and watch the last in our group eat their meal. It was surprisingly bland. I really don’t think what we got was what it was supposed to taste like because the noodles didn’t have any flavor. To apologize for the wait, they offered us shots which was laughable because we just wanted to get on with our day. We spent 2.5 hours here in total and most of that time was us waiting on the staff, who were inexperienced and rude. The food wasn’t good enough to put ourselves through this ever again.

The ambiance here is amazing. Great vibe not only for a party but also the service was great. Kevin was extremely attentive & gave us such good recommendations on food & drinks. Gives you a European vibe without traveling there! Definitely will be returning in the future.

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere was warm, the staff extremely friendly and welcoming, and the food was absolutely excellent. We’re really glad we came here and will definitely return.

Such a fun atmosphere. All staff seemed eager to accommodate needs. David was great. DJ was a nice touch for the end of our dinner. Dinner turns into an after-party just FYI. We ordered a ton of food (two-three of a few dishes) which was all very satisfying, but the Branzino stood apart. The striped bass carpaccio was flavorful, but it would have complemented better if it were chopped thinner. The lobster was tender and soft. French fries were nice and crispy thin. I loved the tomatoes (tomates olivettes confites). Cauliflower could have done without as both servings weren't to temperature -- more on the warm side. However, I would recommend just about everything we ordered (see proper French dish names below). Drinks were all good; we just ordered classic drinks/wine/cocktails. Let's talk dessert! We tried everything except the fruit. My absolute favorite was the crepes dentelles! Second favorite, the chocolate ice cream. Beignets were ok, a little too dense inside instead of airy/puffy. And the brioche cake (or tropezienne a la vanille) was sweet - a couple of bites are plenty. French names: Carpaccio De Bar Rayé x2, Gosman's Live Lobster x2, Tomates Olivettes Confites x2, Pommes Frites À L'origan x3, Choux-Fleurs Marinés Et Dorés Au Four x2.

Worst experience ever, waiter was rude, lobster fettuccini took over an hour. Multiple tables served prior and a nice $537 bill Lobster was dry, the pasta flavorless

Disappointed at the New "Gosman's" in Montauk I've been going to Gosman's Dock in Montauk with my family for decades. It was always a casual, family-friendly place where you could enjoy fresh seafood, a salty breeze, and a sunset without breaking the bank or needing a dictionary to decode the menu. That's why last night's experience at the newly rebranded Bagatelle Montauk was such a letdown. We walked in hoping for the same welcoming vibe, but instead were met with a French fine-dining concept--menus in French with English subtitles, an overly curated atmosphere, and prices that made us feel like we were in Manhattan, not the Montauk waterfront. I ordered a simple martini with two olives and was served a small, precious glass with a lemon twist--and a $28 price tag. Honestly, it was the most expensive martini I've ever had, and certainly not the most memorable (for the right reasons). After that round of drinks, we decided to leave. It just wasn't the place for us anymore. I understand change happens, but it's disappointing when it comes at the cost of charm, accessibility, and local spirit. For longtime fans of the original Gosman's, be warned: this is not the same place.

Beautiful.place and waitress was a sweetheart...but...the food was horrible. Not even average but just horrible....and $480 for 2 Stay away

We did not know what to expect but overall the experience was good. We got the ribeye with the mash potatoes and it was delicious! The oysters were tiny but the ceviche was good. The ambiance was nice as we were sat right on the water. Our server barely checked on us and but we did have a bus boy named BYRON who was amazing and made sure we were happy with the food and asked if we needed anything.

Amazing food, service, & ambience. They went out of their way to make our meal special and I would absolutely come back here. Sinclair was the best! Great addition to MTK!

Let me start with the setting, and why I gave 2 stars. It's absolutely beautiful, blue and white umbrellas, crisp white linens, outside seating looking over water. Stunning. Now on to a disappointing over priced meal.... We ordered truffle pizza ($55) that was the highlight of the eve. The server seemed sweet as she rattled off specials, highlighting her faves and raving about their steak selections. We ordered. As we were finishing our appetizers .... The servers were hovering ..... and 2 servers on either side of me waiting anxiously for me to fiinsh. I finally chirped up and said.. 'I am still eating ' and they apologized but remained vigilant ... and stated they need to set for the next course At the same time. Mind u with such attentive service ....Our water glasses was never re -filled ... unless one of us flagged someone down to ask. Dinner ... I ordered the halibut that came raw inside. Sent it back and made me a new one. My sister ordered a steak.... charred to death. Her hubby ordered wagyu steak ($230) also dry & fatty. I was extremely surprise & disappointed they didn't send it back. But as I was treating they were being polite. We also ordered the lobster pasta... for 2 ($135) It came, they never split it, lobster was tough and it had a drop of sauce. I don't mind paying for great food and experience. But this was neither. Go for a drink, enjoy the view. Maybe even the pizza. Then head elsewhere for dinner.

Okay when my husband said he wanted to go to bagatelle I originally shut it down. I did not want to go. I saw horrible stuff on TikTok and in the previous yelp reviews, and I was convinced I would be disappointed. I have to admit I was wrong. Everything was phenomenal. The interior space was beautiful with amazing views of the water. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We started with the truffle pizza and they gave us a good amount of truffles so I think it was worth the $55 price. It was actually spectacular. for my entrée I had the scallops they were quite good. They came with a zucchini risotto, which was super fresh and decadent. I would say the scallops themselves were small, but that's okay. My husband had the octopus as his entrée because he ate before. He said it was very good. For sides we had the mashed potatoes and the tomatoes and they were pretty good. Gordon Ramsay would approve. For dessert we had the sorbet because we were honestly so full. The coconut sorbet was the best I've had and the basil strawberry was also superb. I also think the sorbet and gelato was the cheapest I've seen in Montauk. It was four dollars a scoop and everywhere else in the Hamptons. they're selling a scoop of ice cream for nine dollars so I actually think it's a good deal. Everyone on here complains about the prices, but just be smart about what to get. They definitely have some ripoff items on the menu, but you should know to avoid those.

In retrospect - Everything especially the food, is awful, with just the view being good - and to wit, astronomical prices (really astronomical.) This is a place for suckers.... it's posturing as chic. You can spend $300 -$400 for bad food for 2 persons here, in the blink of an eye.

We had lunch yesterday at Bagatelle. As we were seated on a busy Saturday, we wondered why we were only the second table in the restaurant. The menu has very limited choices, and it is super expensive! We ordered the grilled salad and a pizza to share. Both were disappointing. The pizza was loaded with truffle and was not good. The salad was like a Caesar salad but served as a whole section of romaine lettuce. This also was not good. We were so disappointed in what this restaurant has become. The whole area has closed shops, and we wondered if this whole section, now under private equity ownership was going to be turned into something completely not "Montauk friendly". What a shame!

if I could give this a negative rating I would. this place is the opposite of anything nice - it's tacky and repulsive and doesn't belong in montauk. The servers were horrifically rude to us and basically insinuated that we couldn't afford their menu. gossmans was once a staple in Montauk and now it's the worst part of Miami Beach.

I've been going to Gosman's for 25 years and always found it was great food at a reasonable price in a stunningly picturesque environment. And while we usually eat at Gosman's Topside, the formal restaurant was a nice alternative if a member of our party couldn't find anything at Topside. The new Bagatelle, unfortunately, is pretentious (I mean, really, a French-language-first menu?) and priced only for those who rolled in on a yacht. Not surprising that the place was completely empty last Saturday while Topside and the Clam Bar were packed. Nice job bringing the snobby Hamptons experience to Montauk!

How could anyone one who claims to be a successful restaurant/business operator think that this was going to work in Montauk? If you don't understand the community & demographic you're catering to after years of Gosman's deep, decades long connection to locals & tourists alike, you are sorely mistaken. Big mistake. Huge.

Ambiance beautiful! Can't be beat. Service awful. We sat down asked for bread 6 times until a busboy brought us some 1/2 hour after asking our waitress and several times. We ordered dinner and our dinner was served 2 HOURS later! It was a Sunday not even crowded. Food was ok. They need to get their act together, never going back not worth the high price for terrible service. Oh and captains chairs at the tables became very uncomfortable after 2 hours.

we had a 3:15 reservation on a Sunday for lunch. we sat down at 3:05 (early) they told us the kitchen was closing on ten min and we needed to order now or we can't eat. we hurried and ordered. The food came wrong. The waiter kept trying to clear our food while we were eating. since we were hurried and finished in 30 min we thought we would have a drink at the bar however the bar was closed until 5:30. I was recently at Bagatelle in St Barths had a great meal and so much fun. This was not that experience at all.

Bagatelle in montauk takes the cake for one of the worse dining experiences in out east. Where to start with what went wrong? We had made the reservation weeks in advance for a birthday with a request to sit inside. When we had got there promptly at our reservation time we were asked to wait ten minutes. 20 minutes later we come to find out the table was given to other customers deemed "more important" than those who made reservations.... we were finally offered a fake table cramped where we could barely fit around the table. We attempted talking to the manager who is probably the most disorganized and rudest people ever. Instead of being apologetic, we received threats from the manager saying we can take our makeshift table or leave. As it was my friends birthday, we decided to try and stick it out now 45 minutes past our reservation. When we sat, we continued to wait for water for another 50 minutes. I have never had to get up and leave a restaurant. This restaurant should be ashamed of their behavior to decent customers and should re evaluate management and clueless staff. Save your money and time and go anywhere else.
