Yelp
This is a very tough review to write, I've been a dedicated Bagel Oasis customer for over 30 years but I can honestly say this place has hit rock bottom and it's time to take my business elsewhere as they're literally not even trying any longer.
First off, prices have gone through the roof. For years, our Sunday morning ritual has been to run to Bagel Oasis and pick up a dozen bagels with a couple of containers of cream cheese. With tax and tip this is now a $45+ proposition.
For bagels and cream cheese.
I mean, the bagels are good but it's still just bagels and cream cheese.
Now, up until the Covid pandemic we would stop by at least once every 1-2 months for a full sit-down breakfast, as the omelettes have always been pretty solid and our family of four could eat for a very reasonable price. I realized we haven't dined in since the pandemic ended and for Father's Day this was my destination of choice.
Poor decision.
Let's start with the prices: $71 for bagels and eggs for four people. Seriously? And when I went to refill my coffee at the counter I was told this would be an additional $0.55. Excuse me? I just paid $71 for breakfast and you're going to charge me another $0.55 to refill an 8oz. coffee? For all of the years I've been coming here, I've never experienced an up-charge for a plain drip coffee refill, nor would I at any other restaurant. As they say, penny wise and dollar foolish.
And mind you, we're not even talking about being served at the table... Pre-pandemic they would bring your breakfast to your table on a nice plate with real silverware. Now? Brown bag, plastic containers, plastic utensils, pick it up at the counter. Remember, we are dining in, not taking out. If I wanted to eat out of a plastic container I would have ordered takeout teriyaki.
Finally, let's talk about the service and cleanliness...no service to speak of, and the restaurant was frankly disgusting. After we ordered, we went to four different open tables before we found one that was relatively clean. Note, I say *relatively* clean, as we still had to get some napkins and wipe down the table ourselves. The restaurant wasn't even busy...there were only two occupied tables, and the first three empty booths we visited were all dirty. Might the staff might be motivated to clean the restaurant, as it was mostly empty? Don't be silly...the four employees I saw were too busy standing in a circle behind the counter talking amongst themselves to be bothered.
I know that times are tough for all businesses...employees are hard to find, prices for everything are high, etc. etc. etc. But if you're going to charge premium prices, at least think about how you're going to present your product and how you treat the customer. Like I said, I've been coming here for over 30 years, more than half my life, but when a business is failing itself and no longer even trying, it's time to move on to other options...of which there are plenty.
