Best Bagels in New York City, According to Eater Editors | Eater NY

"This shallow storefront was a favorite in our Upper West Side bagel crawl to nine locations. This spot was celebrated for making bagels that are more bulbous than usual, with a tight crumb, and without a speck of sweetness." - Robert Sietsema

The 19 Best Bagels In New York City, Ranked - New York - The Infatuation

"Can a place selling kosher pizza and avocado wraps also have some of the Upper West Side’s best bagels? Bagels & Co. (with another location on the UES) is up to the challenge. The shop looks and smells like a neighborhood pizza parlor, with stained glass Tiffany lamps hanging over the counter, and the smells of garlic and tomato hanging in the air. But their bagels are excellent: just as bulging as the challah loaves covering most of a window, with holes that vanish like deep belly buttons." - bryan kim, will hartman, willa moore, neha talreja, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah

A Ranking of Bagels on the Upper West Side | Eater NY

"I went to a comfortable cafe among high-rise apartments that was inexplicably full of students when I arrived; the bagel was bulbous and slightly larger than usual but otherwise unremarkable and a bit corporate-feeling, with a meager schmear of cream cheese, and it was the most expensive on my run. (Price noted: $5.44.)" - Robert Sietsema

Google
If you’re hunting for a breakfast spot that truly has everything, this is it! From giant, fresh bagels with endless spreads to lox that’s honestly out of this world, every bite feels like a treat. The bagels are always fluffy and satisfying, and the toppings are generous. But what really makes this place stand out is the variety—you can enjoy classic New York–style bagels and then surprise yourself with fresh sushi or even grab a slice of their flavorful pizza. It’s the kind of spot where you come in craving breakfast, but leave wanting to try it all.

Google
Ordered a bacon, egg and cheese… the bagel with egg& cheese was great, but not really sure what kind of bacon this is….. Have never seen this kind in my 25 years of life.

Ulyana

Google
Loved their bacon, egg and cheese bagel. It was great. Seemed like they have a great selection of other things to pick from

Google
A classic kosher restaurant , hits the spot. If you're looking for a bagel and cream cheese, slice of pizza, or a solid Israeli salad - this is the spot . What a nice greeting - the moment we walked in they said hellos let us help you what would you like etc... don't usually find that at a quick dine in.

Tasty everything bagel and delicious fresh scallion cream cheese

Harper

Google
Amazing little shop. The workers are super kind and helpful. :) Lots of options when it comes to cream cheese for bagels. I reccomend the chocolate chip one. They also have sushi, which is always fresh and made every day. I’ve had it many times and never had issues. Food is always fresh, lots of fresh and pastries & pizza to choose from too

Google
*GAVE MY HUSBAND AND ME FOOD POISONING* and wildly overpriced. I got a MINI everything bagel (very mini) with bacon scallion cream cheese and it was almost $7.50. The menu says the mini bagels are $1. When I asked about the price, he tried to explain the price and something about the cream cheese. It didn’t make any sense but I had already paid so I said whatever. *BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY* It didn’t taste very good so I ate half of it and saved the rest for my husband. I am 6 months pregnant so my taste buds are sometimes off. He said the cream cheese was old and he didn’t even finish his half. It gave both of us terrible food poisoning. For me, I’m extra susceptible to stuff right now because I am pregnant, but my husband usually has a stomach of steel, so this had to be REALLY bad to take him down, especially with him only having a few bites. Never going back there, obviously.

Google
What you want is a bagel with a spread- you don’t want to go to some place that only sells bagels in packs, or won’t toast and dress it for you. Any flavor you can imagine, including flat bagels. They also have pastries, lovely breakfast items like pancakes, fruits, and yogurts. The coffee is great and you cannot beat the friendly team that makes it all happen. Mike starts my morning with a smile and makes me feel like I live in a small town. I love this place.

Yelp
Stopped by sunday afternoon. Service was great. He toasted a bags with butter. I also got a fresh carrot juice. There were outside and inside seats. I highly recommend seating outdoor. So quiet and feel some natures. Pizza, sushi, ice cream, salad and bagels A bathroom set up.
google avatar

Raphael L.

Yelp
Phenomenal experience! Great bagels, huge menu. However, the best part was the staff: super friendly, helpful, and absolutely on the ball. Roger was great, fast, and efficient. Jeremy made excellent recommendations and was a blast. 5 stars. Highly recommend.
google avatar

June M.

Yelp
Quick grab bagel, I got the smoked salmon one and it's pretty decent. Great service and has outdoor seating if you dine in the summer time. Inside look like a deli shop with coffee and bagels. You order what you want and pay upfront then sit wherever you want

Bruce S.

Yelp
Who in the word says Bagels & Company's bagels are just average?????? They're thick and dense and have just the right amount of chew. One bagel is a whole meal, and add your favorite cream cheese topping (and believe me, they have your favorite topping) and it's a meal with dessert. The only thing that can possibly compare is a Philadelphia soft pretzel (which you can only get in Philly, but that's an entirely different Yelp review).
google avatar

Shahbaz K.

Yelp
I love this place, today I tried Napolitano Panini with egg salad, it was pretty good but I prefer my panini little bigger but taste wise it was good
google avatar

Josh R.

Yelp
FYI, this place is Kosher. They're not open on Saturdays and they don't serve bacon. I ordered an egg on an everything bagel. It was $5.63. The egg was good, but I was disappointed with the everything bagel because it didn't have much flavor. The service was great though!

Steven F.

Yelp
The owners are very disrespectful. I was being harassed by a manager and when I brought it to their attention they yelled and disrespected me refusing to pay me my check. I was later assaulted in the kitchen where I filed a police report on VLAD the owner

Oriyan D.

Yelp
Amazing customer service amazing people a lot of vegan options big variety of drinks very professional really good bagels ect 100 percent coming back

Yelp
Bagels and Co. has two huge qualities that are important to me. It's clean and the employees are nice. They prepared my order exactly as I specified. I showed proof of vaccination this visit as I sat inside. The table was clean. I needed to use the restroom and I know where it's located now. I just let them know I was going to use it. As usual it's a well stocked and clean restroom with plenty of light and a lock on the door. The food is reasonably priced. I always enjoy my meal. It's nothing extremely special but I'm not a fanatic. I leave feeling satisfied and with every intention of returning. The new tables and chairs outside are going to be nice when the weather warms up in spring. I recommend this location of Bagels and Co.
google avatar

Bryan L.

Yelp
Pretty busy bagel shop in upper east side. Seems to be a popular Jewish joint, a few customers and employees were wearing kippahs. The lox and cream bagel was pretty expensive, $16 but at least the bagel was large and thick. I wish they gave more lox for the price, most of the filling was cream cheese.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
Food was ok at best and service completely sucks. Nobody knows what's in the juices except for one person who can't answer any questions when it's busy. When we ordered pizza the woman told the guy to put in pesto slice which he didn't. When I went to check status he told me nobody ordered pizza. There are 4 workers here and all of them are completely disconnected in communication. Not expecting amazing service but ruined experience wouldn't come back here.
google avatar

Ania M.

Yelp
Except being overpriced and seriously dirty inside ....the employees are just rude. Especially one charging you for food by the register I went there 3 times and every time attitude of the always fed up with life employee is just too much Flavored cream cheese ( I tried 5 different ones ) is not a great quality and you can see it's not freshly made in the morning. .... No wonder looks more and more empty inside ‍
google avatar

Clarissa L.

Yelp
Great NYC bagels are sold here! But the real winner is surprisingly the pizza. The pizza crust is thin and crisp and the pizza is topped with various vegetarian toppings. Some of my favorites are the tomato basil, ricotta spinach, and mushroom. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Pamela P.

Yelp
Convenient location and great variety of bagels and spreads, I ordered the everything bagel with the classic scallions cream cheese, the flavor was amazing for both but I wish the bagel would have been softer, is was too hard for my taste , almost hard to eat, even though they heated up for me. As per price same as everywhere else about $5 each, price varies depending on spread selection. They offer catering if that's something you will need maybe for a party or event.
google avatar

Rob M.

Yelp
As a caveat: this is based on just one experience. But I don't plan to go back. I ordered an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and a coffee. The service was fine; the coffee was too. The bagel was doughy, weirdly dense, and a bit dry. Plus it was slathered--absolutely SLATHERED--in cream cheese (possibly to compensate?). I removed at least half of the cream cheese with my coffee stirrer. Also, my order cost a surprising $12.79. That's too expensive for the quality. Bagels & Co. would simply not be my choice for a bagel in this neighborhood, which has plenty of better alternatives.
google avatar

Heather W.

Yelp
Came here for a pickup order and arrived when they requested. They were closed and didn't bother to let me know. Complete waste of time, money, punctuality, and energy. Rude.
google avatar

Sydney S.

Yelp
Wow!! The bagels here are awesome. Great variety on both bagels AND spreads. I'm always a fan of sun-dried tomato & scallion cream cheeses and they had BOTH! The value is fantastic (big, tasty bagels at a reasonable price). One callout - this shop doesn't serve any sausage, bacon, etc. so if you're coming for a breakfast sandwich and want those meats, maybe look elsewhere or try something new! It didn't affect my order so I'm a happy camper :)
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
Still my favorite place in the city - friendly people, efficient service, and great bagels.

Peter S.

Yelp
Constantly gets orders wrong, the bagels are decent but B&B bagels down the block has much better quality.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
Stopped in and grabbed a toasted flat sesame bagel with tunafish, it was pretty darn good. The price was a little steep.
google avatar

Sabrina P.

Yelp
I've had my fair share of New York bagels, but this place definitely does not make the cut. I got a whole wheat everything bagel with plain cream cheese, toasted. I thought the bread was too thick, a thicker dough than I've ever had before and as any other bagel place would give you, there was an excessive amount of cream cheese. It tasted more like a whole wheat bagel than an everything bagel which also was a turn off for me. I got a large iced coffee and this bagel for about ~$9 which was pricier than other places I've been to.
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
Now I have to admit I'm giving 5 stars but did not have a bagel! We ordered off the israeli menu and tried the falafel plate! Fantastic!! Small flavorful falafel in the creamiest if hummus with a side of israeli salad, a side of pickles and a fresh made pita for $8.50! Where else in NYC can you get so much for so little!

Dovi H.

Yelp
It is just great - fast service, very clean and the food is always fresh and good and there is street parking nearby ! Anytime we are in the neighborhood we make it a point to go for lunch. Great soups and bagel sandwiches and the pizza is outstanding. It is kosher dairy food at its best.

Bobby B.

Yelp
The bagel was dry and tasted terrible. They charged me $4.25 for a plain bagel toasted with plain cream cheese which is a rip off! Not to mention I stupidly bought and Arizona iced tea (which is usually $1 at other corner stores) and was charged $3.50 for it! With tax it costs me $8.44 for an old dry bagel and a"$1" Arizona iced tea. Avoid this place at all costs. Better to get a bagel at coffee cart on the street!
google avatar

Lynn O.

Yelp
I decided to treat myself yesterday morning, as it was a cold Sunday and I didn't feel like going out. I ordered 2 large hot hazelnut coffees with soy milk, a whole wheat everything bagel, and a baba ghanouj platter with Israeli salad. The delivery was quick but the order was a nightmare. Instead of hot coffee, I was sent 2 large iced coffees, sickeningly sweet with hazelnut flavoring. Awful! In addition, the baba ghanouj was drowning in MAYONNAISE, not tahini. It was more mayo than eggplant and it was inedible, particularly since I am vegan. I had to toss out both the coffee and the mayonnaise mess. $20 down the drain..... but at least the bagel was good.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
We traveled 3,000 for a NY bagel and we were not disappointed. This friendly unpretentious corner neighborhood hangout has magnificent bagels and all the extras. Salads, black and white cookies, lox, cream cheese. It's all here and first rate. A great example of how the Big Apple respects and serve the world's dining treasures.
google avatar

Michelle J.

Yelp
I ordered a cheese blintz and waffle. What I was an empty crepe and freezing waffle. I can understand the cold but the blintz was pathetic, almost no filling (see picture of blintz opened up) Will never order from there again
google avatar

Jaclyn L.

Yelp
I got the cinnamon and didn't realize it had raisins because that part of the sign was hidden haha but it was still good. There was, what felt like, a whole block of cream cheese on it. I wish they had a blueberry one I could have had. My friend got the everything bagel and it was also okay. My other friend got the everything as an egg sandwich and it was a tad dry.

Iman M.

Yelp
Ordered an everything bagel toasted with plain cream cheese. Taste was mediocre for a "bagel shop" and barely any everything seasoning on the bagel. Also charged $4.80. Not worth the price for the quality that you get.
google avatar

Lily D.

Yelp
I love this place. Bagels and baked goods are so delicious and big. Friendly staff and plenty of seats to eat in! We've been here a few times and I'm never disappointed. Their bagels are big and delicious. Challah bread is fresh and yummy. Salads are fresh. Coffees & lattes are perfect. I'm pretty I much obsessed and glad that this is so close to me. The delivery service is quick and they are on seamless. Peasant delivery guy too. Will be returning so soon!
google avatar

Danielle H.

Yelp
Just ordered a bagel from here it arrived like MUSH. Absolutely disgusting. The avocado is black as it is clearly off & the tomato is like mush. I also ordered it toasted & it came untoasted. I'm not a happy customer, will definitely now be revisiting
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
Bagels and Co. was the first place I ever had New York bagels, and wow it tasted really good. I did have bagels from many other places in New York after but the bagels here weren't as salty as most places and I loved their simplicity. Out of all the bagels I had in New York, I would say this place was top three in my list. I ordered an everything bagel with egg and cheese and it was delicious. Not too salty or bland, it was just about right. Very affordable as well as it was $4.90. It doesn't look appealing whatsoever, but it doesn't matter to me as long as it taste good. The restaurant is super spacious, which is so rare in New York. I felt rushed ordering my bagel but they still helped me out on what to order, which is pretty neat.

Robin S.

Yelp
Stall bagels, charge service fee to use a debit or cc and not one sign. Service is less than stellar.
google avatar

Ariana R.

Yelp
Great bagels!!! Would eat one everyday if I could. We halve having Bagels & Co on the UES.
google avatar

Anthony O.

Yelp
Their bagels are great. Instagram upperfeast. Their menu is kosher which is great! There's a lot of menu items which is usually a bad sign. I can't speak to anything non bagel but bagel & co has great bagels and spreads. The fresh juice is great too.
google avatar

Jim H.

Yelp
Decent food, but awful customer service...and delivery times that are usually an hour longer then they state.....with spilled and burned food included. I avoid now, which is a real shame. Case in point: ordered at 11AM, called at 12 to inquire as to ETA....was told a few minutes....called at 12:30...and was told 3m away....12:40 and still no food. Edited: The food never came....these people are the absolute worst....nasty people who don't hire competent staff. What a waste. NEVER AGAIN
google avatar

Brooklyndave2001 T.

Yelp
The bagel was really bone dry like it was made a month ago. Bananas for a dollar each? That is a new one
google avatar

Roger S.

Yelp
We are a family of 5 and have been here several times. Each time I say "never again". I must have amnesia, since I keep returning. The bagels are just ok. The challah is stale. And the service is terrible. They always get at least one part of our order wrong. The guy who is always at the register is rude. To add insult to injury, this place is more expensive than the better bagel joints on the UES.
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
We hadn't had breakfast yet and were on our weekly weekend stroll to Carl Schurz Park, and so stopped in this place for a quick breakfast on the way to bring to the park. IT's interesting, this place serves pizza/cheeseburgers/regular American lunch, as well as does full service bagels/cream cheeses, but also has a juice/coffee bar and sushi in the back. I'm not sure what crowd they were trying to draw...? There were a lot of people there eating the pizza/burger types of foods, though. We got bagels to go, myself the rainbow bagel with sweet sprinkle cream cheese while he got a regular egg and cheese on a garlic bagel. His bagel was pretty good, hot and melty and gooey (my go-to order is normally a bacon egg and cheese on Everything bagel, but decided to try their rainbow bagel). Mine was just okay, I wasn't super impressed by the bagel nor the cream cheese. Just an okay stopover in the UES, probably won't be hitting it up again.
google avatar

Fer M.

Yelp
NYK supervision, Pas Yisroel, cholov Yisroel Has sushi options but I have not tried them I tried the omelette and must say it was amazing! I'm partial to eating omelettes since I think I make the best omelette ever... BUT, I was dying to eat an omelette and came here. They did not disappoint! Really amazing! My mom had the bagel and loved it- she is super picky with her bread, so I trust when she says it was good. Also I never ever say this for any kosher establishments but this place is cheap!

Yanky f.

Yelp
Great place to check out for coffee and bagels I would say it's the best bagel coffee shop in the city service is quick food is great would recommend to anybody in the area looking for a good breakfast lunch place this definitely the go to place
google avatar

Sandra M.

Yelp
Bagels & Co. is really cool and different. You'll leave feeling full with delicious food and great vibes. Bagels & Co. has an outstanding Tuna Salad, that was my very first time giving it a try at this restaurant, and I was surprised with how good it was. Service is really good, no problems at all. You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Isaac G.

Yelp
This place is great. Love getting the lox sandwich here. The customer service is amazing. Everybody is really friendly specially Julio behind the cash register!

Dee R.

Yelp
Got a everything bagel toasted w a speciality cream cheese as well as a grilled almost Cuban sandwich. Both were quite good! I would have liked a less doughy bagel or a flagel which I prefer due to less carbs and crunchier but I didn't see any. The place was PACKED w a line out the door. It was hard to decide with so many choices! It really has the selection of bagels, sandwiches , salads and more. There is some fresh squeezed juice and beverages as well. I will go back. They were all very nice and patient considering what a mad house it was on the weekend.
google avatar

Tasnia H.

Yelp
It's a rainbow bagel! Yass! Most places I get bagels they put 2 much cream cheese! But not @ bagel & co they put the right amount and the bagel was so fresh! Best bagel I've had in a long time! Thanks 2 Ryan who made it perfect!Def need 2 go back and get some more!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been back a few times since my last review and, under new ownership, what a positive difference: - The service has been wonderful; friendly, quick and more organized. With more employees covering the counter or a new system, I'm not sure which, but I have not felt the chaos zoo - ish-ness of previous times there. - One barista went out of his way to accommodate my coffee rush when I needed to move my car ASAP - Tidy, contemporary cool and fun green / blue t-shirts and hats on the employees look great and modernize the feel of the bagel shop - The bagel with veggie cream cheese I had seemed fantastic, fresh, fluffy with a crispy toasted crust... Very good, while I was underwhelmed with bagels here previously - The pastry selection is extensive and fresh - Even have a pizza stand in front of a pizza stove, with several fresh pizzas I will definitely try I think a couple of the above mentioned improvements I noted, like the pizza stand, were there all along (per an employee) but I hadn't even noticed because of the aggravation being cut off by customers and the hectic feel or being there - I just wanted to get in and out ASAP: there's a lot more order, smoothness and a better flow now .. The only negatives for me last several visits: 1/only accept card payments for purchases $10 up - so I end up getting 2 lattes just so I don't have to deal with going to an atm. (Their lattes are very good though so never to waste.) 2/ closed Saturday as its a Jewish bakery (but open Christmas so...) Much improved under new ownership and highly recommend for lattes, bagels and many other fantastic, fresh looking pastries.

Yelp
Experienced this place twice. Once for delivery; fast delivery, but it was a weekend. Second time i called in an order to pick up. They didn't have my order ready, and they were scrambling around. It was lunch, but not terribly busy. After telling people twice what my order was, they still did not get it right. The older man at the register was a total d!€k. I tried to pay but he barked at me TWICE to tell someone AGAIN what my order was then ignored me. Frankly, it was embarrassing to be barked at for no reason, when the staff didn't get my order correct or even prepared. He just stood there all smug avoiding eye contact. Why??? Are you the bagel register god?? The rest of the staff preparing the food were nice. Food is good and fresh, great variety of food items. But I definitely didn't appreciate the treatment from BRG. Bagel Register God.
google avatar

Jeremy E.

Yelp
Great bagels. Would give five stars if they didn't have minimums for their card transactions. Not going to carry cash just for bagels nor buy over $10 in bagels.

James T.

Yelp
I always order 4 poppy, 4 sesame, 4 everything and 1 cinnamon raisin bagel. Also 1/4 lb of nova lox spread cc and 1/4 lb of veg cc . Bagels are decent, little doughy on the outside, I always ask for well done but they don't listen, I took a star off for that also when you pay the fat guy behind the register always has an attitude, took another star off for bad attitude, also the spreads are very expensive but I didn't take a star off for that since they always look fresh. Their tuna salad is good. $15 for 13 bagels so 1 bagel is "free" really no bargain for a dozen
