"This Upper East Side favorite is offering bagels to-go, though hours change daily. The bakery is asking diners to call ahead before coming in to place an order: 212-744-6444." - Carla Vianna, Eater Staff

Very tasty bagels. Got so full. I really recommend this place. They are making the bagels themselves, and the fillings are delicious😋 The filtered coffee is also very good 👍

Bagelworks, situated between 66th and 67th on 1st Ave, is a true NYC bagel shop done right. Stepping inside, you're immediately greeted by the delightful aroma of freshly baked bagels, an invitation to indulge in one of New York's most cherished culinary traditions. The selection here is spectacular, with everything from the tried-and-true plain to more innovative flavors that dare the taste buds to explore. Each bagel is baked to perfection, featuring that ideal balance between a chewy inside and a satisfyingly crisp crust. But it's their bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel that truly steals the show—a flawless combination of fluffy eggs, crisp bacon, and melting cheese held together by a superbly toasted bagel. It's a breakfast classic done right, a must-have that elevates your morning routine into a culinary celebration. But Bagelworks is more than just great food. It embodies the quintessential New York bagel shop atmosphere—energetic, friendly, and utterly welcoming. The staff serves up smiles as warmly as they do their coffee, making every visit feel like you’re dropping by an old friend's place. The line also moves very quickly! For anyone from die-hard bagel aficionados to curious visitors, Bagelworks offers an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of New York’s bagel culture. A well-deserved five stars for delivering consistent quality and that extra touch of comfort with every visit.

Google
This was actually only my second time having a bagel, FIRST as a sandwich. When I say it was delicious, understand, it was yesterday, and my mouth waters at the thought of it still. Space is tight in this small establishment, but it is well worth the few minutes of claustrophobic panic to get these bagels from this place. 100% recommend this place. If you go, PLEASE get me the bomb bagel 🥯 😋

Google
My favorite bagle store has disappointed me today:( The customer line order almost got mixed up, and on top of that, I was given a funky crushed bagle!!! I have never gotten this kind of crushed bagle from any bagle shop:( Just to think I always recommended this shop to anyone who asked me, I was not expecting this type of service and quality:(

Google
It's very cool to see them make the bagels in house but as someone who is gluten free, their gluten free bagel fell short of others in the city. The sandwich toppings were also somewhat lackluster. Overall my gluten free bagel sandwich was kind of bland and dry. It made for a decent meal in a pinch but if I had more time I would go somewhere else

Google
This bagel place is a breakfast paradise 😋 The bagels are freshly baked and have the perfect chewy texture on the inside while boasting a deliciously crisp crust on the outside. They have a variety of toppings from different flavors of cream cheese smoke salmen tomatoes, lettuce, eggs and more , The shop has a small but it has an inviting atmosphere and vibes, there're tables outside. Definitely the best way to start your day 😊 the service is quick and excellent 👌

Google
Great bagels and bagel breakfast sandwiches. I personally like the sausage, egg and cheese. Friendly, fast service.

Went Saturday morning for two bagels. I tried a gluten free but it just wasn’t my preference. The lox cream cheese was delicious and there was plenty of it. My cousin had a garlic bagel with plain cream cheese and said it was very good. I love the vat of bagels being boiled right in the back and the oven right there in sight. Not low priced but worth it. I got bagels and cream cheese again and they never disappoint!

Yelp
Great spot to grab a quick breakfast. The service was great, I was in there maybe a total of 3 mins and had my sandwich and bagels ready to-go!

Evan N.

Yelp
I love it here! One of the best bagels on the UES hands down! Their sourdough bagel is awesome! Even if you see a line I promise you it will go by so quickly and it is never a hassle. The service is really quick! The inside is extremely small but don't let that fool you on the quality of the place!

Rhyme And D.

Yelp
Bagelworks bagels, tasty but a mess, Napkins were scarce, adding to the stress. No lattes to sip, just coffee plain, And bees outside drove us insane!

Jeff G.

Yelp
Honestly this is a basic bagel store. Definitely not anywhere near the level the reviews claim it to be. The bagels are good but they don't have the texture of a real NYC bagel. The inside and outside are basically the came texture. When I think of a NY bagel I want it to have a small hole in the middle but these look more like a donut. Service was odd too. I walked in the door and the guy behind the asked me what I was ordering before I was in the door. Then no one was there for me to pay.

Ha An N.

Yelp
They are a little pricy but they are the best in this area. The staff is incredibly fast and efficient, and will listen to your order (even complex ones). They have a little seating area in the street, which is a great spot for people (and dog) watching.

Kierra P.

Yelp
Unbelievably good! The line in the shop was an indication of the quality of these bagels. I got a lox bagel and the breakwich. I highly recommend the fresh lox, they put a good amount and give the option of adding onions, capers,or tomatoes. The ambiance is very casual, its standing room only inside and there are tables outside by the bike lane.

Kinjal P.

Yelp
Catered some bagels here for work and everyone really enjoyed these bagels!! It's our go-to spot on UES for bagels

Carolina C.

Yelp
Bagelworks is a local gem! The are speedy and clearly extremely generous with their lox which is a massive plus. The bagel is night and fluffy with the crisp exterior (it's toasted obviously). They also have gluten-free bagels so if you have an intolerance but still want the lox experience - always a win. They have your classic deli spreads but if you're feeling adventurous the birthday cake schmear looked interesting and they have vegan options as well. The deli is small but there is some outdoor seating if you want to take it all in and not just eat it on the go.

Hank C.

Yelp
Toasted bagel here with cream cheese is one of the great simple pleasures in life. No, I don't really appreciate the line or the chaos at the ordering but they managed to get the order right and even though five bagels, one with lox, plus 3 drinks cost me $37, it was an easy process with great taste and chewiness that was just right. The inside of the store is quite tight, the counter long and a little difficult to speak over if you're short. Menuel is at the top and people constantly shouting back and forth as they prep up the orders. Lots of different kinds of cream cheese and various spreads for the bagels which is nice. A whole lot of people got everything bagel with bacon egg and cheese, I'll have to try this next time.

Melanie C.

Yelp
As someone who has been gluten free for 10 years I've still not had a true NY bagel experience.... until today! While there are other shops in the city who specialize in gluten free foods and happen to have bagels, this is a true bagel shop with gluten free options and the experience was incredible. The two gluten free bagel options are everything and plain. There was also a dairy free cream cheese option (tofu). The line can be long at bagel works but it moves quick! I ordered the gluten free everything bagel with tofu cream cheese and was happy to see the bagel had a great texture and tasted delicious!! Bagel works is a great option for groups with gluten free and non gluten free friends, where no one has to compromise! Highly recommend!

Katie M.

Yelp
These bagels are so good. I used to get Absolute Bagel all the time when I lived on the UWS and was nervous I wouldn't find anything that compares when I moved, but I can confidently say that Bagel Works really is that girl. I always get the turkey pesto melt (pictured) because HELLO??? It's insane. Service is also great, don't let a long line deter you because they're cranking in there and you too could have a turkey pesto melt on the horizon! Highly recommend.

James P.

Yelp
I previously reviewed Bagelworks with a sharp tongue for right reason, but I've just learned it may depend on what you get and maybe when. Their sliced salmon sandwich is very good. My 2nd try concern, that they'd skimp on the lox was thoroughly disproved - this bagel is jammed with fresh nova salmon for a locally competitive price. The salmon to scallion cream cheese ratio was tastefully balanced and the onions weren't overstated. I ordered on a Sunday morning, which is probably lower volume, and lower risk they run out of ingredients to generate sales if they load up their bagels. Or maybe they just do this especially well all the time. Whether this is one of their best offerings, best days to order or best workers who made this, keep making it like this. Come to bagelworks for one of the UES's best classic lox bagels!

Ranjini S.

Yelp
I'd read a few reviews for this place and it was open when I walked by this morning so I went in and grabbed breakfast. I love everything bagels and this one did not disappoint. I got it with veggie cream cheese. Service was quick and people kept coming in and ordering bagels in large quantities so I was happy I took a chance on it.

Jessie K.

Yelp
Outdoor seating, no indoor seating. Service relatively fast. Big variety of bagels and cream cheeses, including jalapeño cheddar bagel and birthday cake cream cheese. There are also low fat options, whole grain bagels etc. Wouldn't order a bagel sandwich however. The bagels are a bit small compared to other places. Not the best bagel I've had--it feels a bit on the dense side, but in the Lenox Hill area it is decent

Amanda C.

Yelp
My favorite bagel spot on the UES! Try their blueberry bagel or their garlic poppy cream cheese !! Probably not together ... It's a tiny spot and there's usually a line, but it moves fast.

John A.

Yelp
Beleaguered bagels. I go out of my way for them. Tiny place but has all you need to go with your bagel. I get them when I'm in the city to take home and enjoy them for a few days!

Paul P.

Yelp
So many bagel options in NYC. Selected this one for DoorDash delivery to my hotel based on it having highest star rating in the vicinity. First off, NYC bagels are big, easily capable as a spare tire on a small car. These ones were like wow. I ordered a lox on everything, poppyseed with veggie shmear, blueberry with blueberry schmear, and cinnamon raisin with strawberry schmear. They were toasted, by the time they arrived the cream cheese was melty and messy but it was all good. The blueberry cream cheese stood out the most because of the plentiful blueberries. By the way, so far as I try different places, Ess a Bagel on Third Ave has the BEST cream cheese shmears with chunks of veggies in the veggie cream cheese and same with the strawberry.

Susan H.

Yelp
This has been my favorite bagel in the city so far four stars very happy with it. I'm normally more of a Montreal bagel person, but this is the best New York style.

Betsy S.

Yelp
I was a bit disappointed with the bagels here. I was told that they would be phenomenal but actually they were not. I have had much better bagels in other places! Their coffee is good and the bagels so so. We sat outside because it was a beautiful day. They have cream cheese spreads here but I got a chicken salad bagel sandwich with lettuce and tomato and it was pretty good. Don't expect white fish salad or anything like that here but it is an option for the neighborhood. what can I say? I wish I had a better thought about this establishment.

Halle S.

Yelp
Yum!!! Great bagels and reasonable prices. I got an egg and cheese on an egg bagel and my friend got an egg, cheese, and sausage on an egg bagel. We were both super happy with our orders! Soft, chewy bagels and a good amount of both egg and cheese. Service was quick and easy. I would definitely get a bagel here again!

Yelp
History of Present Indulgence: This is my go-to neighborhood bagel spot that really beats the rest in a 1o-block radius. Lost count of how many times I've been here. Physical Exam: Taste - The bagels here give your teeth that solid, crispy entrance into a bouncy, doughy interior you crave in a bagel. They have a variety of delicious full-fat and low-fat cream cheeses, and tofu alternatives. They don't skimp on the filling either! They have this pastrami sandwich you can get on any bagel (the PLT) that's also scrumptious if you're looking for something a little more hearty. Service - They're looking for a high churn rate here cuz lines are long and business is booming. Don't dilly-dally too long thinking about your order. I wouldn't say full Seinfeld soup nazi but we're cutting it close. Assessment/Plan: If you're in the neighborhood, this is absolutely the bagel for you. And if you're hungover on a Sunday craving an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, AKA me, ordering that for delivery alongside an iced coffee will put your stomach and your mind at peace, ready to tackle your Sunday scaries with a little more oomph.

Maysa R.

Yelp
Service sucks here. I ordered when the store was empty. It filled up and they forgot my order. They got it wrong twice after that, and I they would not refund me. The food also looks to be stale.

Marianne W.

Yelp
Bagelworks has lots of outdoor seating. It's very very tiny inside. When I was there in the morning the line was out the door. It's handled very well by the employees. They were all very nice. The customers including me are crowded on top of each other though. I purchased the Everything Bagel for $1.58 because I was informed it was good. It's thinner than a lot of bagels but full of taste from the seasoning on both sides of the bagel. Weather permitting it's a nice place to sit outside for a bagel and cream cheese breakfast. There's a lot of tourists and regulars. It's very busy until later in the morning. When I was walking home the line was gone. I'll update you after I buy some cream cheese and finish eating my Bagelworks Everything bagel!

Russell H.

Yelp
Amazing bagel shack on the upper east side. Small store with room for one line of people - good luck squeezing out! I think the size of the store compliments it's old school NYC bagel scene. Tons of spreads to choose from and the bagels are made right behind the counter. They stay busy so there's usually more workers in there than customers. I've had just about every bagel from here before since they cater work some work events I attend. Nothing really gives you the experience of getting it yourself and enjoying it freshly toasted. The bagels are coated in seasoning on both sides here, so you get plenty of flavor for your choice. The scallion cream cheese at first glance looks like it's missing most of the scallion but when you taste it you find it bursting with flavor.

Alexandra K.

Yelp
Easily the best gluten free bagel I've ever had. Actually, the bagel was better than any regular bagel I've had either. 10/10

Evan S.

Yelp
This place charges $10.95 for a bacon egg and cheese and it looks like this... cold cheese, stale bagel and bacon is a rock. $11 for a bacon egg and cheese is criminal and especially when the quality is so bad. NYC has 1000's of place all better then Bagelworks never come here. My coworkers tried to warn me at the hospital to never go here and I just didn't listen. When 22 people say don't go then you know the place is trash.

Vishnu G.

Yelp
I got an everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese, which tasted alright. I appreciate that they have a bit of outdoor seating, which is a plus on a nice day.

Ariana O.

Yelp
I've gone here a few times for breakfast and there's always a long line to order. It moves quickly though and they are generous with spread serving. This has become my go-to breakfast spots for bagels!

Sarah G.

Yelp
Talk about a good bagel! Bagel works may very well be a dollar or 2 more than your average bagel shop but I can say without a doubt it's worth the little extra. The amount of lox, capers and cream cheese takes the cake and the bagel is nice and large as well. Conveniently located near Weill Cornel Hospital it's an easy stop on the way home from an appointment or short walk for a visitor to pick up a treat for a loved one admitted to the hospital.

Emily C.

Yelp
This place is CONSISTENTLY packed and ALWAYS has a line out the door, but I always bring visitors to here so they can get their quintessential NYC bagel experience. I don't have much to say besides the fact that I've been here 10+ times already and am always ready to come back for more! Bagelworks is the perfect place to pick up a fresh grab and go breakfast. If the weather is nice, you may be able to grab one of the tables outside by the side of the street. Otherwise, it's only a short stroll to Central Park! Side note: the chocolate chip muffin is very large. I was impressed.

Patricia L.

Yelp
Busy lil bagel shop w will do the job bagels. Service can be kinda slow but its a bustling bfast spot whatchagondoaboudit Everything bagel, sun dried tomato cream cheese, egg and sausage, toasted please ~$10 [7.5/10] -solid, not so fluffy bagel -plugging yall to try sun dried tomato cream cheese if u want a spunky, tart twist If it was a lil cheaper, then it would get a good from me. But bc its like $2 more than other bagel shops, it gets just an okay from me. And ok, maybe they also have messed up my order once or twice and I'm still hurt from the time they forgot my sundried cream cheese, but charged me for it, and then when I went back, they made me pay for a side of it.... OH and for those who care like I do- they are very generous with their cream cheese shmears

Kati T.

Yelp
Excellent bagel to cream cheese ratio. Got the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese for lunch. No regrets.

Kenneth T.

Yelp
I pass by this hole in the wall and never noticed it. Today I went in and I have to say- Tasty bagels, great variety, fast service.

Anita J.

Yelp
My favourite bagel place! I am so glad they made it through the pandemic. The always have a line out the door. I used to frequent here quite often when I worked nearby. No fuss, amazing bagels for a reasonable price (given it's in NYC and the UES). They have a large selection which are all great. They have tofu based spreads for our vegan friends. I sometimes prefer that one. Would definitely recommend!

Alexa T.

Yelp
I got a toasted blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese. Honestly, it was really underwhelming. I don't think my bagel was worth $4.97. It tasted good but not worth the price.

James L.

Yelp
Our go-to spot in the surrounding neighborhood. The bagels are solid. Reasonably priced. Employees have been great and fast. Always multiple delivery people waiting for orders which is a good sign. Usually about a 5 min line. Nice eating curbside available, fairly clean.

Steph W.

Yelp
I ordered an everything bagel untoasted and the bagel itself was not warm. It was not as dense as other bagel shops. Still tasty. Might need to try their salmon bagel to really decide

Ameerah I.

Yelp
Delicious and tasty ingredients on a delicious fresh bagel. Highly recommended. Fast service, attention to detail. Night outdoor seating under a small canopy. Thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely be back.

Alison W.

Yelp
Overall: 3.75/5 I was yearning for a dear old bacon, egg and cheese on a roll and my friend suggested this place to me. Food: 3/5 Nothing outstanding but good enough to satisfy the cravings. I did see them make their bagels fresh though which was nice! Ambience: 4/5 A typical bagel shop and it looked like a family owned shop. You go in, order, pay, grab and go! Price: 3/5 EEK!!! When they charged me the total, it came out to be $9.74 for a BEC on a roll!!!!! This was insane to me as I'm from Brooklyn and I grew up paying max $4-5 for one. I know with inflation they have up the prices but almost $10 for a regular sandwich - I could never again! Service: 5/5 They were friendly and quick with the service. Nothing to complain about here.

Sara Z.

Yelp
Solid grub, reasonably priced, what else could you want? I got an everything bagel with lox spread, not toasted. The bagel had a good bite without being overly crunchy. The cream cheese was good. The lox spread is pink - a bit off putting but once I got over the color, it was good. I prefer lox spread with pieces of lox but the flavor was overall on point. I also grabbed a bag of 4 bagels to bring home. They were still pretty soft and cost $3! Also under $5 = cash only. So if you're just getting a bagel and no drinks, bring cash.

Sumita V.

Yelp
Obscenely rude and disrespectful workers. They messed up my cream cheese (jalapeño for garden vegetable) and gave my niece an everything bagel when she asked for a plain bagel (she has a severe sesame allergy). After she opened her bagel to see they made a ridiculous mistake we had to walk all the way back and ask once again for the correct order. We were responded to by a man who cursed us out in Spanish and gave us both attitude for their mistake. He was disgusting. It's not that difficult to make a bagel--still struggling to understand how ordering a simple hallmark food was so difficult. Would not recommend to anyone unless you find pleasure in attitude, overpriced bread, and repeated mistakes.

Lawrence W.

Yelp
Fresh bagels right out of the oven in front of you. Fast & friendly service. Lots of choices but I recommend the Everything bagel.

Ploi S.

Yelp
I was searching for sourdough bagel I found this place on my search. Well it doesn't taste like a sourdough. All I tasted was a regular plain bagel.

Cindy W.

Yelp
I've had better bagels to be honest but I loved their muffins. Their sandwiches are about $10, which is not a bad meal. Their blueberry crumble muffin is to die for though! Seriously one of the bests I've ever had.

Inna F.

Yelp
It used to be an excellent place for bagels - fresh bagels and smeared cream cheese generously. But today I ordered bagels- toasted- cream cheese. Got warm bagels, cream cheese is melting out and bagel looks raw in the inside layer. It means that instead of toasting the guy just placed bagel with cream cheese inside oven to warm up. It's awful! Completely different taste! I feel so bad for the business. I was going on and off every time n the area, But now people working there all new and it's sad if the place will go down.

Arielle R.

Yelp
Had a sesame flat bagel with blue cheese parsley cream cheese and turkey bacon, and an iced coffee (Graham Cracker). It was so good!! still thinking about it

Lindsay N.

Yelp
The most flavors of spreads you'll find anywhere! They also have some uncommon bagel flavors such as bran oat and Black Russian. They also offer flat bagels as well as a gluten free bagel and gluten free everything bagel. Not the prettiest place, and there's only a little seating outside, but the service is fast and the bagels both delicious and fairly priced. The bagels are soft and modestly chewy--they're lighter and less dense than other local bagel's (which I prefer) and it's one of the few places in town with a blueberry bagel. They're also purple, which is pretty and fun!

May N.

Yelp
Got a lox bagel with scallion cream cheese and it was amazing! I like how they're super generous with the amount of lox they put in and that the bagels are toasted very nicely. My mom got a chicken bagel and she liked it as well although she would've preferred her bagel to be a bit less toasted. This is my first time trying lox bagel so honestly I'm not entirely sure how different the bagels here or in NYC different from other places but overall I loved it!!

Jones W.

Yelp
I got food poisoning from the Bacon Egg and Cheese. The bacon was dripping in grease, mostly likely weeks old grease. They don't clean their cooking grill i bet. Never wasting my money on this shop again. All the good reviews must be fake. Smh.
