LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"This Middle Eastern daytime cafe in DTLA's South Park looks a bit like an office breakroom, but the food sounds more interesting than anything we’ve seen come out of a communal microwave. The morning menu features various breakfast sandwiches, including one with soujouk, eggs, and cheese, plus pastries like boreks and bagels. At lunch, there’s a crispy falafel sandwich or a Banh Pi(ta) with pork belly and pickled veggies." - cathy park

Google
Absolutely insane meal at Bahr. The two chefs/owners created a masterpiece. We went with the Lahmajun, weekly pizza, salmon bowl, crispy Chicken Caesar salad, and the falafel bowl. They make the best falafels in LA, no question. Everything was extremely high quality. You can tell the chefs put so much into every dish. Finished off the meal with the banana iced coffee creation that was unlike any coffee I’ve ever had. So good. Well done Bahr.

Great place to meet a friend or client for lunch. All of the food was so well balanced, creative, and flavorful. The service was spectacular. We got the Imam (Falafal) and Armenian Cold Cut pita, Aleppo Pork Bowl, cinnamon bun, two cortados, and two fresh juices. The flavor & texture of the pita was perfection.

I actually physically want to get up and dance every time I try something new here. Insanely delicious. The owners/chefs Travis and Alan are incredibly friendly, and the service is always great. It's clear they really care about what they do. I can’t wait to come back and try more of their amazing dishes. Highly recommend to all!!

OH MY GOLLY GOSH!!! Name a better cafe, ill wait. Food was exceptional, dare I say perfect. I was also fortunate to meet the Chef/owners Alan and Travis, both of whom gave me outstanding service!!! The wraps are a must. The pita is made in house daily as well. I went with the imam falafel which blew my mind. Out of this world!!! The pineapple kiwi cold pressed juice was just what I needed to start my day right. Will definitely be adding Bahr to my daily routine.

Some of the dishes remind me of my Armenian grandmother’s cooking but with a modern twist. This place is phenomenal. I highly recommend it for a quick, delicious bite. The Soujouk breakfast sandwich was amazing and I had to try the cheese Boreg. Wow!

Google
I was delighted when Bahr Cafe opened in my office building. Everything I've tried has been absolutely delicious and the service is always friendly. If you are ever near The Reef, I would highly recommend checking this place out. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Everything I ordered here was delicious: the Cardamom Cream Top Coffee, the Steelhead Shashlik bowl, a side of falafel, the carrot cake, the cardamom nazook - even their baklava is solid, which says a lot as I'm really particular about my baklava and have been disappointed so often by soggy, old or too-sweet baklava. The service is also very warm - Alan and Travis couldn't have been nicer as they answered all of my (many) questions. I'll be coming back!

Yelp
Bahr opened in the lobby of The Reef building, and I was excited since I work nearby. I tried the Aleppo Pork Bowl when they first opened ($18 in January), and wow--it was incredible. The flavors work so well together, and the pork is outstanding. I craved this bowl! By early February, the price had jumped to $21 (around $24 after tax), which was steep but still worth it occasionally. However, I noticed today that the bowl is listed online for $20, raising questions about pricing discrepancies. Now for what really upset me today. A few weeks ago, I grabbed an iced vanilla latte (16oz) for $9, which seemed high, but I was told the system was adding extra fees, and the cashier even offered to refund me $2. No big deal, told him keep it as tip. Today, I ordered the exact same drink, and again, I was charged $9. This time, I was told vanilla is an extra $1.50, which is new, but fine--I had already paid. Then, while waiting, I saw the barista pour Coffee Mate French Vanilla creamer (yes, the store-bought blue-label kind) into a cup of ice. I thought, there's no way that's my latte... but sure enough, it was. $1.50 for a splash of Coffee Mate? For a latte? That's beyond disappointing. The first time I had this drink, it was actually good, but this? Not okay. Overall, the inconsistency here is frustrating. The pork bowl is still amazing, and I might return for it eventually, but today's overpriced, lazy excuse for a latte really turned me off.

Yelp
I was looking for a lunch spot in South Park that is open on Mondays and this new place came up! A friend and I came and parked in the parking lot under the giant chair sculpture. The place was in the lobby of a big building. It has a modern snack bar vibe. Nice simple menu with veggie and meat options. We had the falafel sandwiches. My friend got hers with an egg ($4 extra.) The bill ended up being close to $50 with tip and tax etc. Then we went to get the car and the parking for 40 minutes was $15. All in all a little too expensive for what we got, but I'm glad to see an Armenian style place in the area. Will consider coming back on metro!

Yelp
This is hands down the best cafe ever! The location is spotless and inviting, and the coffee is absolutely to die for. Whether you're grabbing your daily breakfast sandwich on the way to work or stopping in for a quick and satisfying lunch, they have options for everyone. I absolutely loved the Aleppo pork bowl--so flavorful and delicious! Alan and Trav, thank you for hosting us and creating such a welcoming space. I'll definitely be back soon! Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food, amazing coffee, and friendly vibes.

Yelp
Bahr Cafe is an absolute gem. I had a sandwich and a coffee. Both we excellent, I can't wait to come back and try a bowl. The Aleppo Pork looks insane. I can't recommend highly enough.

Yelp
All sandwiched are made on either homemade pita or english muffins, and they are AMAZING!!! Fresh food made quickly and with lots of love, making it my daily morning stop! Lots of seating too!

Yelp
Wow. Hands down my new favorite spot. Everything is made in house and the food is insane. Trying to enjoy as much as I can before it goes viral and has a line down the block.
