"Deep in the forest, near Cultus Bay, hides an ancient wooden schoolhouse-turned-gas station and mini-mart. There’s a good selection of beer and cider, which patrons then can enjoy either on a huge covered porch or what’s possibly the state’s smallest bar (the size of a walk-in closet). Bailey’s also has the best cheeseburgers on the island —juicy and enormous, piled with thick strips of bacon and Beecher’s cheese — and the porch often has live music on the weekends." - Meg van Huygen

Great little unexpected spot. A charming and artistic little spot a really decent burger selection on the menu. Eat your meal either in the covered patio area or Outdoors on the picnic tables. Great food and friendly service. Find their schedule online for live music performances

The person working the counter was so so charming. I asked them if ketchup came on the burger and they said “gross no” and I immediately was won over. The burger was awesome. There is outdoor seating. It seemed like it was just locals. One person working the counter and cooking so come with some patience / expect to wait for your food.

Food was great, nice seasoning on burgers, tasted fresh and ample fries, decent prices. I lettuce wrapped my burger for myself which met my gluten free needs. Kiddo loved the fried chicken tenders and live music was great! Wish we'd had a bit longer to enjoy sitting outside in the trees with great food, drinks and music so we'll make more time next time.

I have lived on Whidbey island in Freeland for 10 years. I don’t get out much, but was craving a burger. Well, on a Friday night in August past 7:00 pm you will not be eating there. After finding a parking place down the road and waiting in line the red head employee decided the grill was closed. (@7:20pm) He was rude and I was treated like a mainlander. My husband was meeting me there and since there is zero cell service in the area, I had to wait for him to arrive. My husband reminded me that years ago I had a similar experience, but at least I got food then. The hours online on multiple sites says open until 8:00 pm on Friday. Not when we are tired and have been busy. There are other places that will serve you, don’t mess with this place.

This business is a hidden gem and a staple on the island. Tucked away in the forest, it offers a unique experience - this is the place to go Sasquatch spotting. Lounge on the porch with a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich after a morning hike or have a local beer and enjoy entertainment like live music, trivia, or a chat with the locals.

We had a very fun night out at Bailey's. The food was good. They had a great tap list. And the trivia night was a lot of fun, with a really great (unique) format and host. All of the locals were very welcoming and friendly to two visitors. We'll definitely go back on our next trip to Whidbey!

I’ve been playing shows and attending shows at Baileys for years. They treat their artists with the utmost kindness and gratitude, they make a MEAN burger and they welcome all kinds of talent to their establishment. Everything from hiphop to country to rock and roll to the best trivia nights out there. Baileys is home. For me ? The heart of whidbey. <3

Google
Awesome little mom and pop type store that serves an excellent burger, BLT and veggie patty. I had the opportunity to experience this shop twice, all of us (4ppl) thoroughly enjoyed our meals each time we went. Not only were the main dishes great, so were the fries and beverage options. Definitely worth a try and there is live music at times!

Yelp
This place is so quaint. It's nestled among the tall trees of the island and sports a small American food menu. We have enjoyed all the burgers we've tried, the grilled cheese was traditional and done well and the BLT was tasty (heavy on garlic mayo though). The people here are really nice and food gets to the table in about 10 minutes after ordering. The atmosphere is very laid back.

Yelp
Fire burgers for a cheap price. Highly recommend for a good grab and go. Haven't had time to sit and eat in the courtyard but I heard it's nice. The employees are super helpful and kind. I accidentally came in five minutes before closing and he was still able to help me out. I imagine nice it's nice toeat outside on a nice day highly recommend two thumbs up no cap.

Yelp
Love this little burger and brew spot. Trivia Thursdays is a blast. When they have live music it's lots of fun. Great service. Sometimes you have to wait due to the amount of people. I highly recommend trying this place. The grinder and pull pork sandwich is my go too!

John S.

Yelp
Drove here from Langley after a recommendation of a friend. Was looking for something a little more refined and surprised to learn THIS was it. The planets aligned though. Great beer, excellent grinder and fries and a superior service experience. We will be back. A true gem on South Whidbey.

Yelp
Burgers are Always cooked and seasoned perfectly. Never had to wait even when they have live music and are extremely busy. Given that they usually only have one staff member working , that is impressive! Definitely the best burgers on the south end of Whidbey Island!

Scott V.

Yelp
Stopped in for a cold drink and found a gem! We ordered a couple BBQ bacon burgers and they did not disappoint. Perfect medium rare and great flavor from the patty. Condiments were fresh, sauce was lively, and the bacon thick and delicious. Couldn't eat all the hot fries. Service was humorous and surly, perfect for the atmosphere! Can't wait to try the Grinder.

Janet S.

Yelp
Delicious hamburgers! Wonderful French fries! So great to have a very local burger place near Cultus Bay and Possession Park. trivia night, and live music is enjoyed by so many south Whidbey Island friends

Molly S.

Yelp
I go to Whidbey often for work, and food choices are slim pickings- don't be fooled by the name! This place serves delicious, flavor-packed burgers and other food. I was very impressed! Sometimes a burger is just a burger, but this place is something else! They even make their own in-house dipping sauces (the garlic aioli is to die for) I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in the area!

James S.

Yelp
Quirky stop for us and we were glad we stopped. Great homemade juicy burgers. Fries were good too. Service with a smile. Enjoyed it off the beaten path.

Deanna H.

Yelp
Wow. What an absolutely adorable charming little store/ gas station/ relaxing beer stop. We needed to grab some gas and the kids wanted am ice cream bar. We had no idea how great this place was going to be! Super clean, super friendly, there were locals hanging out having beers. Tons of goodies inside...clearly this is THE place to go if you live on the island. If you're traveling don't just pass it by.. stop, fuel up, and grab an ice cold beer while you chat with the awesome locals.

Maureen L.

Yelp
Back in the 90's rode horses there. Critters got apples and extra love, riders got ice cream The mechanic of the time would letus all get a drink (we drank from hoses and lived to tell about it) My kid has goodmemories of it too!

Hals Y.

Yelp
Cutest coolest most bad ass...dollar less for Marlboro compared to 76 in clinton. Also great food.

Yelp
We are an internationally touring band who stopped at Bailey's to play an intimate show on their patio in 2019. The owner Ken immediately met us with genuine care and showed us around. We felt welcome. He personally cooked us up some delicious food even though the kitchens were closed as we'd arrived late. The next day Ken sent us off with some coffee and snacks for the Road, as well as tips on the most beautiful routes to take on trip to the next city. Every customer and staff member we met at Bailey's made our experience so wonderful that we kept coming back throughout the year. In the back there is a fireplace which is the perfect place to clear your mind and inhale the sweet scent of deep woods that surround this perfect little multi-store, one-stop shop. I'd highly recommend stopping here and staying a while.

Yelp
Outstanding burgers - nothing fancy just a great burger. Plus the one employee was hustling, Cool/running the gas station/running the store/etc

Lesley B.

Yelp
What a unique and charming place, full of character, and well worth going off the beaten track to find good food and beer selection, as well as everything (gas and coffee included) you could need at a corner-store. We visited on a Saturday night and enjoyed two outstanding bands on their outdoor stage under beautiful tall trees. A fantastic experience all round.

Yelp
One Room School house turned into a store this building has been a general store since about 1972 I think I was told, we went here to get some Propane so we could cook more food up, and on a Sunday evening it isn't always east to find Propane and this store is only about 4 miles off the main drag (Hwy 525) so easy to get to and back out again, also they do have a Drive Thu Espresso and they make it as long as they are open that's till 10pm Mon-Sat and 9pm on Sundays they also open at 7am every morning they also have Video rental, that didn't do us any good as the beach house I didn't even see a TV, which is cool by me as I don't watch TV would rather read a book

Dylan J.

Yelp
Best place ever!!!! They are in the middle of no where on south Whidbey.... they have Great food and service and there gas prices are good for being so far off the beating path. Hope everyone finds this gem!

Shawn K.

Yelp
But, the burgers?! No ones talking about what are arguably the best burgers on the island? Do thick smokey bacon strips and Beechers cheese ever call your name? Do peeps just not know? Well, that may be so, as the menu and kitchen is a bit incognito. I get one with fries whenever I don't care about my fitness. You should, too. That's the REAL local secret ;)~

Yelp
I went in there today to get a burger, I was surprised to see that the shelves and the back part of the store were half empty. Big black bottle flies were flying all over the store (and its January). I was thinking about getting some bread and I looked at the one loaf they had on the shelf and it was 30 days past its sell by date. 30 Days! The Burger was good (which is why I gave this an extra star) but I was a little worried about eating it. The women that helped me was a bit surly especially when I asked her why my $9.00 hamburger (no fries just a burger) was $10.50 she just snapped back that it was tax and flipped her hand towards a small piece of paper taped to the counter saying they charge extra for debits under $10.00 Not very impressed The food is expensive, store is dirty and from the empty shelves I can only assume they are not doing to well. I have been going to Baileys since I was a little kid. Sad to see it is so run down these days.

Yelp
Great little good enough store tucked in the deep se corner of whidbey. All the last minute essentials (snacks, cheap wine and even dvd) and saves a long drive out to the highway to be made glum at ken's corner. Wonder if people still sit out on the front porch. Very inviting place but please don't block all your front windows with stuff.

John D.

Yelp
Just make sure you know when you buy a $10 burger, that's for a burger only. No fries. We were surprised when it came to the table with no fries.

Jessie P.

Yelp
This is a one of a kind local spot. Its awsome for what it is (grocery/gas station, pub and beer garden). The employees are friendly and they have fanastic beers on tap. Very enjoyable place!

Kagan B.

Yelp
For the island its really nice to have a place between the southern tip and the main stores. Get to know the staff and they are very friendly. Has DVDs to rent, beer selection, snacks, and a few dinner items. It's awesome to have a mom and pop run store, totally island style. Prices are standard for the island. Not too bad when you compare to the red apple and goosefoot place. Seriously nice staff, remember their customers. Open late for the island.

Emily R.

Yelp
Handy little corner store. It is nice to be able to run here to pick up things you need real quick instead of having to go to the highway. The owners are nice and the store is kept clean. Very convenient.

Yelp
This place is great. Bailey's is kind of a local treasure. It has been there my entire life, and somehow I never knew they served food until this summer. I went in this afternoon and had a hamburger, and it was the best burger I've had in ages. They are easily the best burgers on the South End. The beer selection is good too, and includes a couple of beers brewed on Whidbey Island.

L G.

Yelp
The owners are very helpful and the quality of the food and wines is surprisingly good for a Mom and Pop rural store. the ambiance is country charming and the homemade-from-scratch soups and burgers are delicious! and they sell GAS TOO.

Michael S.

Yelp
We showed up this evening for beer and burger to celebrate our friend's birthday and got a whole lot more............we danced with a former airline stewardess .......we listened to a mix of music from Tom Waits to Heavy Metal.......it was not quite an out-of-body experience, but sure was surreal (for staid old Whidbey Island retirees....!) Mostly locals and friends of the family run store, the beer and food are inexpensive and good, friendly staff, and a real country tavern atmosphere. Thanks guys....!

Brian M.

Yelp
A unique combination of gas station, convenient store, bar, and beer garden makes for a great little hangout. I like the fact that the beers on tap are not your average tap beers theirs always a new great beer to try. Bailee's is a tiny bit off the beaten path, but that makes the atmosphere a lot more quaint and local. If would highly suggest the small detour off the hwy. to fill up your gas tank, your belly, and quench your thirst.

Erin O.

Yelp
Awesome spot to chill and be yourself while eating a burger and drinking beer! Awesome local live music in the summer! Awesome parties! Good place to be your sarcastic self and have a good time. Oh yah--and you can get gas there too.
