Google
A decent little bakery with Asian pastries. I liked the cookies though the whipped cream and cake was fairly low on flavor, and very much whipped cream. The whipped cream could have been flavored or the cake. Either way, decent stop and we’ll probably come back.

The boba is cheap ($4.75) and delicious, it may need a bit of work with tapioca balls being more warm and soft but it’s worth the price. The cashiers are friendly and they’re speedy with the drinks. Love coming here! ☺️

Google
I had a delightful visit to Bake Culture at St. Marks, and here's my review: Bake Culture is a charming little bakery with an array of cute pastries that wouldn't be out of place in an anime. The selection is not only visually appealing but also offers a unique and enjoyable taste experience. One of my personal favorites was the Burberry Tart, a treat that not only looked fantastic but also tasted delicious. However, there was a slight letdown with the Key Lime pastry, which didn't meet my expectations in terms of flavor. One of the standout features of Bake Culture is its reasonable prices, making it accessible for those looking to enjoy delightful pastries without breaking the bank. In summary, Bake Culture at St. Marks is a lovely bakery with a range of adorable pastries that will remind you of anime. While some offerings may vary in taste, the overall experience is a positive one, enhanced by the affordability of their treats.

Google
The matcha cake and the red bean buns were our favorites. All the pastries are flavorful, nice texture, smooth and fresh. This is easily one of the best bakeries in NYC and that’s not a small accomplishment considering how competitive it is amount bakeries and restaurants.

Google
I love Bake Culture. Their Taro Bun is delicious and I get cravings. And now they have fluffy, not too sweet, individual cakes - my favorite is their Rose Lychee with pieces of lychee in the cake.

Google
I have gone to this place several times and I can 100% guarantee that not everything is baked fresh daily. I have tried different baked goods - cakes and desserts, different pastries, and I have tasted freezer burn; seen mold and tasted staleness from breads. I didn’t want to leave such a negative review but tonight was my last straw. I bought plain white bread and after only a few hours of eating it I got sick. Please explain how? The store is managed by a bunch of college kids and there’s absolutely no quality control. Do better, please hire those who want to be there and knows how to manage a shop. Please!

Google
These were some of the driest cookies I’ve ever eaten, like it literally fell apart into dust as I was eating it. 2/5 stars because the chocolate chips I fished out were decent. Wouldn’t recommend

Google
I had the mini strawberry cake and it was out of this world. So light and fluffy and the strawberries tasted very fresh. I’ll be back again to hopefully try the cheesecake. 🍓 😋

Yelp
Beautiful lychee birthday cake! 1st time I've ever heard of Lychee cake! It was so yummylicious, I wanted to eat the whole cake. I've also tried the red bean matcha cake from Bake Culture and it's also delicious. Bake Culture has earned my Yummylicious Stamp of approval!

Yelp
Prices seem fare based on nowadays standards. Flavors are cool, subtle and not so sharp in taste so therefore not a over consumption of sugar making it a little bit healthier. I enjoyed the lemon bread one in first pic. It's massive and a lot of cream inside, wasn't too sweet but good enough to enough and probably taste better with some sort of milk beverage. The red round bread bun was good, had some cream cheese and raisins inside, not so much but in certain areas you may taste a lot since it's not evenly distributed. The chicken sandwich was not that good but it's probably because it is cold. Not sure u can ask to heat it up but u can ask. The taro danish was good, had a lot of taro filling in the middle(not sweet). Taro bun gives sort of a thin croissant like flaking. Dragon fruit Cranberry, was pretty good, in certain areas inside there is like cream cheese and raisin for flavor to just the red bread.

Yelp
This bakery chain was apparently started here by Taiwanese pop singers with three locations in the NYC area. This place is actually very small and only has a couple seats for customers. They do not have a bathroom either. This is a Taiwanese bakery, but most of their baked goods are very general items you can find in other Asian bakeries - bubble tea, buns, egg tarts, fruit tarts, taro and green tea flavored baked goods, etc. While the food here was tasty, I definitely prefer other bakeries like Fay Da or Paris Baguette which has foo that is just as good but with a much larger selection and a lot of seating.

Chin T.

Yelp
The staffs were friendly. Ordered black sesame cake and boba drink. Boba is chewy. The pistachio nuts over powered the black sesame creamy fluffy cake. Overall, a cute dessert place, they have tables and chairs to eat inside. Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambience: 4/5

Caitlin L.

Yelp
Tasty mooncake! The bakers definitely know what they're doing here with a variety of unique mooncake flavors.

Yelp
I was in the East Village/St. Marks area for a show and was in the mood for a quick bite to eat. I came across Bake Culture after a quick search in the area. I got a taro pastry. It was pretty tasty. I usually don't go to Chinese/Taiwanese bakeries unless I'm in Chinatown, Flushing, or Bensonhurst, but Bake Culture has a bit of a unique twist/modern twist to some of the favorite pastries that you would find at those establishments. Almost like a Taiwanese version of a bakery to rival some of the French Korean owned bakeries. They have an assortment of pastries like egg custard, a variety of different breads and buns that you would find at a bakery in like Chinatown but with a slight twist as I mentioned. The space itself is pretty small and not really designed for a bunch of people to sit around in like a cafe. The service was fairly quick.

Cynthia L.

Yelp
Ran into this cute coffee/bake shop as I was exploring East village and i'm so glad I came in! They have such an interesting variety of pastries, baked goods and delicious drinks. The girl who was front of the house was so sweet and made our time there worthwhile. Not pictured: S'more's cookie: Double chocolate chip cookie with marshmallow filling in the middle. This was arguably one of the best cookies i've ever tasted in my life!!

Jing K.

Yelp
Underwhelming and disappointed. their baked goods and mini cakes look good on the outside. However at first bite you will notice that the cane itself is dry, the cream lacks and burst of flavor. Perhaps a light layer of fruit jam or preserve could help add moisture or flavor but as it stands I would not buy from them again.

Eva C.

Yelp
Came here to buy some birthday cake and I wanted a variety so I opted for the mini versions. Unfortunately I didn't think the cake was worth the money that it was being sold at. I found the cake to be quite dry and the cream to cake ratio was off with too much cake. I thought the chocolate was the best out of them all. Additionally the rosemary on top, tho a cute garnish, threw off the taste of the cake quite a bit. I also recognized that I went at almost to closing which might explain the dryness of the cake but usually cakes lasts well into the next day after being baked so I was quite surprised by this. They have other baked good in there that I would like to try instead next time! The store was a bit small with about 2-4 seating.

Nancy A.

Yelp
I love the custards in this place!!! Every time I come to this place I always get the yellow egg custards! They taste so good! So there are 2 types! One is Portuguese and the other is regular egg custard. Both flavors come with 2 custards in one packaging. The regular one is $3.99 and the Portuguese is $4.99! They have milk cream buns, large chocolate donuts, and taro buns! The place has so many pastries to choose from that you want to buy like the whole store! each type of pastry is packed in a nice cute plastic packaging wrap. i just came where for the egg custards and German pudding which was also a bomb! it tasted so good how that pudding is so soft and melts in your mouth! There were 4 left in total and knowing it was almost sold out is why I got it to try it out. So delicious! Place is very yellow due to the store logo and branding and very clean with indoor seating. They also serve bubble tea and cakes. Going to get more egg custards next time I pass by here!!!

Audrey T.

Yelp
More like 3.5 Came in before they were about to close. A lot of the things are already sold out, so the selections were limited. The cakes look very cute and pretty! Grabbed 3 items to try: Tiramisu: this is one of my favorite tiramisu! A lot mascarpone - close to my 100 to 0 mascarpone to cake/lady finger ratio lol! Super light fluffy airy and dreamy texture! Cherry Blossom Mille Crepe: I was super curious and excited to try this one! I love the bouncy gelatinous jiggly jelly layer in the middle! Flavor wise, I honestly don't know what to expect - haven't eaten cherry blossom before lol. It's very subtle and I didn't quite get that floral scent I was hoping for. Sesame mochi ball: I like black sesame and I like mochi... so this one is a no brainer! I really enjoyed this one! A lot fragrant black sesame filling inside with a slightly chewy and croissant-ish layered pastry shell outside. Very filling. I would come back to try their bakery goods

Anthony P.

Yelp
More like 3.5. They got quite a few things on their menu that are different from your typical asian bakery and they are known for their taro-based items, so make sure to get that. TLDR - come for the taro based items, maybe the german egg tart. TARO DANISH *** Probably my favorite, it's kind of like a croissaint but not as flaky/crispy/crunchy more fluffy and airy and has taro cream inside that is not too sweet, nice and taro-y and creamy, and overall really satisfying. Not sure I find stuff like this elsewhere so take advantage of this special tiem. TARO BUN*** Flaky purple exterior covers a dense, smooth, thick layer of taro filling that is not too starchy but you can definitely tell it's real taro in there. Not too sweet and really enjoyable, especially for me as someone who usually doesn't like taro things because of the starchy, fibrous texture it can have. Also quite filling! Do recommend you get this as well BLACK SESAME MOCHI BALL Love black sesame but I would skip this. It had a really strong herbal/medicinal flavor of some kind and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. It does have a nice flaky exterior and the inside is like mochi + black sesame mash with little seeds inside. Not even really sweet, more like savory with sweet notes. PINEAPPLE BUN Gotta try the pineapple bun at every place I go to but this was far from my favorite; didn't have that nice crumbly crispy exterior that I was hoping for. I"m sure if it were more fresh it would make a difference.

Yelp
One of my favorite Chinese bakeries in the city. It's a cute little shop with sweet pastries and cakes, sandwiches and savory pastries, and drinks. I've tried a few of their pastries so far and always get a new thing to try! Here are some of my favorites! -Coconut bun -Taro bun -Milk bun Here are some other pastries I've tried that didn't make my favorites list but are also still pretty good. -Taro crepe cake -Fresh cream fruit cake -Pineapple cake (I like how these are freshly baked which is harder to find) -Sun cake -Egg tarts

Glenn C.

Yelp
This is one of the many many Asian spots on St. Marks. I'm surprised it took this long for a Chinese (or in this case Taiwanese) bakery to open up. They have a few other locations but most of their other spots are in areas with many other more reasonable pastries so this one gets a bit more of a bumped rating. I had a taro bun (I believe it was maybe around $3 or $2.50 which would be expensive in Chinatown but not as much around here) which had a very delicious inside stuffed with taro and not too much sugar. My only complaint about the bun is actually the outside. I don't know why but it felt like it was cloyingly sweet and almost too buttery which isn't really necessary as the inside is already a bit sweet already. The texture of the bun was good but I didn't really get it. Mid 3 specifically for the area.

Yelp
Mini pork floss roll cake 5/5 The custard/mayo, chiffon, and pork floss were in perfect proportions. Red bean mochi ball 4/5 I have a sweet tooth and am easy to please. Salted egg yolk taro square 4/5 For some reason, it's round. The whipped cream on top tasted horrible, and failed the pork floss. As soon as I had scraped it all off, I was able enjoy the cake base and taro/egg yolk. Though I wish it had been more moist. Taro danish 2/5 The filling was so bland and didn't taste like taro at all. Pineapple cake 2/5 I haven't had many pineapple cakes in my life, and this didn't taste that different from what you can get at a supermarket for a tiny fraction of the cost. My pineapple cake connoisseur friend said this was one of the worst she's had.

Tingyue J.

Yelp
Donttttttttt eatttttttt!!!!!!!! It's fake material!!!!!!!!! I had a sesame cake. My lip is totally covered with blackness and can't get rid of it even after wash

Jasmine S.

Yelp
This place is so unbelievably cheap and amazing. Their quality of desserts is amazing and they have a great collection as well. They have everything from savory stuff to lots of dessert options. They don't really have vegan stuff but they have vegetarian friendly dessert options. It's self service and you pay upfront but there's a nice dine area.

Laura O.

Yelp
If I could give Bake Culture 6 out of 5 stars, I would. A lot of the time you go to a bakery late in the day, they're out of everything and the boba has the texture of a super bouncy ball. Not only did they still have some delicious, fresh baked goods to choose from, the tea + boba was perfect. Grapefruit is hard to find outside of Kung Fu tea but Bake Culture has perfect grapefruit tea and still had fresh, chewy boba. Their hot coffee was decent too. Cheers to the friendly, helpful workers too.

Kisha V.

Yelp
I went inside because I was curious to see what kind of baked food they served. Upon my entry the employee seem like she didn't really wanted to be bother. As I was asking questions she seem like I was irritating her. Inside the franchise it was extremely clean and everything bakery wise was self served. It was all perfectly packed. I decided to give the Green bean floss ball a try and it was honestly okay. Not something I would eat all the time. But the texture was very good and fluffy. It was rich in flavor.

Andrew G.

Yelp
Hello all. If your in Th East Village and your in the mood for a fresh roast pork bun. It's here at Bake Culture. Their Chinese Asian treats are phenomenal. I pickup a pack of chocolate chip cookies and 5 roast pork buns. You can freeze them. There so delicious. The owner is a wonderful woman. Thank you. I'll be back

Isabelle W.

Yelp
I've passed by this tiny Taiwanese bakery a few times and decided to stop in for a quick brunch grab since nothing in St. Marks is open around this time. I was immediately greeted by an incredibly friendly shopkeeper and the smell of fresh baked goods. Everything looked absolutely delicious. My friend got a Chocoholic Cream, and I got a classic Pork Floss Bun. We also added a Large Bubble Tea with Lychee Jelly and Black Sugar Latte. We got there a bit too early to have tapioca pearls and cheese foam made yet. Chocoholic Cream (5/5): - filled with a perfect amount of cream - rich chocolate cream and powder on top - I recommend getting a fork! Avoid making a mess of your hands - if you love sweet desserts, this is just for you!! Pork Floss Bun (5/5): - Perfectly bouncy and soft bun base - Delicious pork floss, didn't taste generic or poor quality at all - Great portion! It left me feeling content and nostalgic :)) The drinks were equally amazing! My favorite part is the bubble tea isn't intolerably sweet and really just hits the spot! Thanks to the generous shopkeeper who constantly checked in with us and made sure we didn't need anything!!

Elaine W.

Yelp
Tried their egg tart and bought a slice of cake for my birthday. The egg tart was delicious! It was a tad on the sweet side, but was balanced out by the puff pastry around it. The cake though was absolutely perfect! So soft, spongey, and light, and the perfect amount of frosting. I normally don't like frosting/cream, but the cream on this cake was so chocolatey and delicious and didn't taste too milky, so I actually ate all of it without scraping any off. Also I think the best part was that the frosting between the layers had chocolate chips inside!!! LOVED IT!

Nicole G.

Yelp
I've come here a couple times and it really doesn't ever disappoint. It also helps I live maybe five minutes away. Their boba is refreshing and light. Once they were running out of boba so only one of us could have a serving of it. It was fresh and chewy! The fruit tea actually tasted like tea which was a bit uncommon but totally welcome. I think they use a powder base for their milk boba but it was really tasty all around. The second time I visited I grabbed a whole bunch of desserts for me and my friends to all share. There was a smorgasbord of items but I LOVED the taro bun. It was the first time I'd had anything like that and it was incredible. Tasty and doughy and the taro inside was extremely fresh. I'm craving it while I write this review. The sweet potato was a nice surprise. It was actually a sweet potato! Flavorful yet not overly sweet, it was also extremely fresh and worth the price. I've seen it mentioned on Yelp before, but the chocolate croissant with dusted chocolate on top and cream in the middle is so fresh and light. The chocolate is good quality and the croissant is flakey. Pairs beautifully. It's quite a small space and they definitely sell out of items towards the end of the day so make sure you get there with time to spare! I forget her name, but one of the women who worked there was incredibly sweet and helpful. She was knowledgeable and all around great! Need that taro bun asap.

Diondra B.

Yelp
Cool bake goods treats in the area. They have a variety of treats to choose from. My fave was the greentea and red bean cake

Joshua Z.

Yelp
Fantastic rose lychee cake and overall pastries. Very authentic. Lady at counter was super nice and knowledgeable as well

Liz N.

Yelp
Grabbed a couple of goodies here after lunch. Love these bakeries where you can just grab and go. Everything is individually wrapped. I got the custard bun, garlic hot dog bun, and the Portuguese egg tarts. All of them were so good. The garlic hot dog bun def had a strong garlic flavor, so make sure you like garlic before getting it! The employee was very helpful and let us know she had stuff ready in the back if we wanted anything. Swing by to pick up a tray of treats!

Betty Y.

Yelp
This is my favorite chain thus far (although there really aren't many for me to venture off into). I've only ever purchased the taro and strawberry breads respectively as well as the taro and black sesame mochi pastries. I personally prefer the taro bread over the stawberry but they are both pretty good. I feel like their breads are very fresh and hence very soft and fluffy. The flavors are great. Every time I visit this little shop, I'd pick up two of each. As for the taro and black sesame mochi pastries, I prefer the sesame over the taro. It just hits home (and its hard to screw up since sesame are quite aromatic on their own). The texture is great. And of course, as an asian, the ultimate compliment is -- its not too sweet!

Matthew W.

Yelp
I ordered the Iced Coconut latte and it was really good. I liked that it was sweet and had strong a strong coconut flavor. They have baked goods that were also really good. Overall it is a humble cafe/bakery.

Julia M.

Yelp
Been here a few times. Selection was pretty good. It was my "go-to" for Asian type baked goods if I don't want to trek all the way to Chinatown. You just never know what you're going to get because when they run out of an item- that's it. That's fair enough..I would say this place is about a 3.5 star place. Unfortunately today (Saturday) I went by at 9:30 ish (am) and they seem to be closed. I hope it's just a one off and I'm just super unlucky...

Ariana Beatrice S.

Yelp
Ordered a cake on the last minute for my grandmother's birthday today and Bake Culture was the only shop in the area that had ready-made cakes. The cake was ready for pick up in 10 minutes, and the girl was so nice to include utensils, napkins and candles with the cake. I was hesitant at first since it was chocolate and my grandmother isn't a big fan of super sweet cakes. But when we tried it, OMG! It was delicious. I was intimidated by the product description but the tables have turned and the cake was actually so good that we almost ate half of it in one sitting. It was light, fluffy and the sweetness was just right. This is our first time ordering from Bake Culture and there's a 100% guarantee that we will order from them again. I want to try everything from their menu!

Linh D.

Yelp
There wasn't Classic Milk Teas there and had to wait 45 minutes for 4 drinks. It also didn't have a lot of bread anyways.

Alison A.

Yelp
Really fresh and not heavy. I got the chocoholic which was a chocolate dusted croissant with vanilla cream. I thought it would be heavy but it was pretty light and refreshing. Definitely could split with another person as well. I would go again

Lea C.

Yelp
It was a pleasant surprise finding an authentic Taiwanese bakery that reminded me of my childhood in East Village! Normally something you'd find in Chinatown or Flushing so I do not mind spreading the Asian bakery love to other spots in NYC. Okay before I get into the food, let me spotlight the incredibly friendly staff lady who helped me and gave me recommendations. Unfortunately I didn't get her name but she was a gem! So for the food, I really went all out (why not at an Asian bakery?) and filled my tray with hot dog buns, pork floss scallion roll, taro croissant, lemon cream roll, and a coconut bun. My favorite was the pork floss scallion roll -- if you haven't tried pork floss before, I recommend! Also the average price per item is around $3 so it's a great place to stop by if you're looking for a fresh snack. Will be back again when I'm on Saint Marks!

Yummy K.

Yelp
I got the German egg tart and the sesame cake. The egg tart had a crust that was very hard to break; I don't know if it's supposed to be like that. You should opt for a normal egg tart if you get one. The cake was pretty good but I wouldn't say it was incredible. There's barely anywhere to sit, which I would have liked to do. The cashier was really friendly though and helped me decide between two mini cakes I was torn between.

Holly C.

Yelp
This review is more so about their cakes! This is officially my go to option for cakes now! It's cheaper than the classic Korean cakes but it tastes just as good! The cake itself is slightly spongier as it tastes more like Chinese style cake but overall the cream and sponge cake together make an amazing combination! I especially enjoyed their matcha and red bean cake!

Jorge G.

Yelp
The bread was DELICIOUS their red bean pastry was like biting into a cloud. There wasn't a thing I didn't like and I bought five different items. If you want something sweet, I'd recommend the condensed milk bun.

Jee P.

Yelp
The Taro Danish is the most favorite and probably the must try from Bake Culture. The taro is so amazing and the bread is just so soft at the right level. It might sold out in the evening

Sunny K.

Yelp
I thought this was a cute little shop and decided to try it. I tried the strawberry shortcake and it was light and not too sweet. A delightful little dessert that wasn't too overwhelming. They also have an assortment of other Asian desserts like the taro croissant which I want to try next time! I asked the employee how long the store has been open and he said two to three months, so it's still a fairly new spot.

Ameera B.

Yelp
From the moment I stepped into Bake Culture, I was struck by the delightful variety of freshly baked goods. The display case was filled with an enticing array of cakes, pastries, and breads - all of which looked absolutely delicious. They offer a range of Asian-inspired sweets, which I love. I tried the red bean bun and really enjoyed it. Overall, I would highly recommend Bake Culture to anyone looking for high-quality on the go/to-go pastries and sweets in NYC.

B405103076 T.

Yelp
absolutely asian style bakery! not too sweet and toast are soft. few locations in manhattan.

Ray G.

Yelp
At this point, I'm eating at random places just to pad my yelp stats. This place has well priced Asian baked goods.

Nikki S.

Yelp
My favorite bakery in the area! Everything is delicious. Highly recommend the pork floss scallion roll - it's amazing!

Hannah C.

Yelp
Beautiful cake, friendly service, good price. One of the few modern Chinese bakeries.

Grayson K.

Yelp
Literally everything is so fantastic. Anything TARO will blow your mind. I ordered some stuff from here on Uber eats one night around 11:30, and they were out of one product. They wrote me a note that said sorry, and they also included like 5 free other things! great customer service, come here

Zuri Z.

Yelp
This place is sooooo good their buns are to die for! Got the hot dog one, pork one, cream one, and a pastry - all super good - go chec

Xinyuan Z.

Yelp
Everything is good. My absolute favorites are BC crisps, milk toast, taro Mille crepe and sausage bun. The owner is very kind and passionate. I eat so much bake culture it's become my go to place.
