When you step foot in this place, U2's The Sweetest Thing will be playing in your head. And once you take a bite of one of their delicious nommy food, the track will change to Depeche Mode's I Just Can't Get Enough. And when you're all out of donuts, the soundtrack will once again change into Billy Idol's Rebel Yell because, "in the midnight hour babe, she cried more, more, more!"
I stumbled upon this place because for whatever reason Hugs & Donuts was closed and I had to meet someone up in the area. Well, my fellow Yelpers approve of this place so I've got to give it a shot. Located on 11th St, just East of N. Shepherd, this place wasn't hard to find at all. Just an old school donut shops with lots of selections and delicious kolaches to choose from.
I was hungry, so I got one large and one small cheese sausage kolaches, along with a dozen donut holes and a couple of plain glazed donuts. All these? Just a little over $7. Wowza!! Talk about affordable considering the location.
The lady behind the counter was beyond friendly. When I walked in, she was helping another customer and she acknowledged me right away. As soon as she was done with the other customer, she smiled and said to me, "I can help you now!" And although my total was more than the minimum $5 charge for credit card, I decided to pay with cash anyway. As she was giving me my change, she thanked me for paying with cash so she wouldn't have to pay the credit card fees. Hey, times are hard! Every little penny counts, yo. Remember, Depeche Mode did say, "everything counts in large amounts." Also, considering the location, her prices are very competitive. A glazed doughnut costs $0.79. At Hugs & Donuts? $2. For the price and the value and the flavor, no doubt that Bakery Donuts got it going on.
Will be back for sure to try all the other nommy goodness that they had displayed!
