It runs from 10am-5pm and features Black-owned businesses, merchants, and local artists. When you get hungry, you can pop next door to the Crenshaw Farmers Market. Crenshaw Mall Remodel Includes New Restaurants, But Divides the Community - Eater LA

"The Los Angeles City Council approved the redevelopment of the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall, which includes new restaurants, 900 brand new apartments and condos, an office building, and retail space. The existing AMC Magic Johnson movie theater and some current businesses like Post and Beam, Everytable, and Southern Girl Desserts might remain, though certain buildings could be demolished." - Mona Holmes

This mall is absolutely dead. Maybe 5 places are open here, mostly food, but about 95% of the store is closed. I went inside for the first time in 9 years and it was a ghost town. Such a shame that such an active area went downhill like this.

Google
Nice area. There were not many stores open, as would be expected for a meal these days. Light traffic for a Saturday afternoon. Parking however was bad. There was a farmers market going on so a portion of the parking area was closed off. Covered shaded parking.

I'm from Toronto, Canada, and I love this mall. It's great for the surrounding community, and I love all the stores selling black products that are almost impossible to find in Canada. The AFRO City Marketplace is my favorite store in this mall, and I highly recommend all readers of this review check it out. The staff and store owner are all extremely friendly and kind-hearted people who take great pride in the various types of products they sell, from beauty supplies to skin care, and there is a good selection of clothing as well.

I go into this mall frequently, and I enjoy it. But I can't help but wonder who is in charge of security and staffing them. I have been a witness to several security guards sitting around talking and having a pleasant time talking. All while ignoring annoyances and disturbances. And all while one, ONE, man was actually walking around, discharging annoying people, answering questions, and well doing his job. He was an older man with dreadlocks and glasses. I hope he gets a raise or something along those lines because it seems he’s doing the job of multiple people. I do hope this review doesn't disturb the talking time of the people hired to keep order. But I'd hate to see or come in and for something dangerous or unsafe to happen because some people misunderstood the job description. And let one person deal with the loud disruptive teenagers, the chemically challenged people not in their right mind, or the people who have fun stuffing merchandise in their coat and running off.

I went to a special dance event at Balwin Hills mall. What a great time I had. The event was a pink party, showing awareness towards the disease called cancer. My mom died of pancreatic cancer on April 28th 2022. I spent my last 20 years traveling back and forth from Chicago to Los , geles California, helping out, taking my mom back and forth to the doctor. I think that it is important that if you know anyone else that have the disease to comfort them the best that you can. I know thar I wanted to do more for people who have the disease, I volunteer to work at a hospital in Chicago over a year just to help with patients who need help. I work over a year, and by doing that, I was more than happy to help my mother out as well. So look into this disease cancer and be informed on how you can be of great need in your neighborhood or some organization that need your helping hand to be given chance to join in, and help someone who made need it at this time..

I've never purchased anything from Chipotle today. I decided to purchase a burrito. I ordered a honey glaze chicken burrito with white rice that was cooked with cilantro.[ I don't care for cilantro, but I couldn't taste it] black beans, guacamole [$2.49 extra], onions and Chipotle peppers, corn, hot salsa 😋 for my first time, I only can give 2 stars. No, I didn't add sour cream or cheese because I only eat plant based and diary free cheese and condiments. I left off the iceberg lettuce. If I had a choice, they would offer Romaine in place of watered-down iceberg lettuce. After viewing TV ads, I was disappointed of the size and amount of food items that went into the burrito. For the price I paid $10.54, the street vendors and trucks make burritos worth that and more of what is charge. Chiptole this was my first and last visit. Overall, it's two stars for me. Service was good. Maybe others will have a better experience.

Its been many, many years since I have been here. Parking was awful at first, drove up and down the aisles for about 20 minutes. I went to a friend's shop, but it was late, so I didn't get to see other businesses. Just in passing, I loved the ethnic products. I will definitely go back soon, but much earlier.

Yelp
i love this mall . my review is in regards to the beauty club or beauty supply in the mall . i was just discriminated and he refused to sell me the wig after he stood there trying to argue with me about colors of the wig . none of the previous employers before him was there . not to mention they were very helpful. he was not helpful and very rude . i am a african american women and he was mexican .. his name is solomon he claimed. idk if thats a lie or not . he also got mad and said he wasnt going to sell to me because i said i was going to leave a review on his rude service . horrible . when a mexican women walked inn . he was very nice and helpful . i feel like i was discriminated against .. and he cahrged me extra for the wig.. horrible experience . although the mall is wonderful.

Yelp
I went to the Baldin Hills Crenshaw Plaza yesterday for the forst time ever. My experience was good. If anything, I was saddened to see plenty of vacant retail spaces. Also, it appeared some stores closed early for the day. I thought the food court had decent food options, but I wish there were more food vendors to choose from.

Yelp
Just going to one of my fav malls in Los Angeles. Got here early today and noticed a lot of stores were open. They need to put a grocery in here like Walmart or Aldi or something it would bring more people in mall.

Yelp
It's been several years since I've been to the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall. It appears that the mall has been downgraded. Several businesses are closed or even gone from the mall. However, what warmed my heart was Afro City. According to Tyrone Duprie, Creative Director and designer of handheld art, Afro City is a space where a collective of artists who are African and or Descendants American Slaves sell their crafts. I also met a Master Carpet designer working on a wearable art piece. If you're looking for you are looking for a getaway in the city of Los Angeles, visit the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall for a unique mall experience.

Yelp
Stopped by here today to do Black Santa pictures with my kiddos. Parking was easy, there was no line, pictures were printed out quickly and I was on my way. In and out with no problems. I don't normally go to this mall so I did stroll around to see what was in there. It was pretty dead for it to be so close to Christmas. But there are a lot of shoe stores, gaming stores, and Afrocentric stores. So it's not bad but I probably won't be back until next Christmas time.

Yelp
This was a convenient mall to come too and that's it. Other than that one of the cleaning ladies constantly has a problem whipeing the tables down from day prior. She gets an attitude as if that's not her job. I told head of security about this and he was unprofessional and rude. Take ur business elsewhere.

Yelp
I went to this mall, a mall that I've been going to since I was a kid might I add, I came here to use the restroom and security and the mantnce crew blocked the entrance and refused to let me use the restroom. Of course they acted like the restrooms were out of order, but I know better. They went so far as to tell the near by movie theater to lie about their plumbing because when I went over there to use the restroom they conveniently locked everyone out and said they had plumbing issues. All of this was a lie and I'm not going to be quite about it until something is done. I went to a store in the mall sometime before all of this and they were extremely rude and is the reason why I refuse to spend another dollar in this place. The store is Afro City. I was trying to spend my black dollars at a black owned store, but it was not appreciated at all. After I paid for my items, the cashier took my bag and walked me to the door and then she gave me my items. This is done so a person can't steal things they didn't pay for on the way out, but I was highly offended and I felt super disrespected that after that I just couldn't spend another penny at this mall. That's only some of the experiences I've had, I have more stories. If this mall shuts down I won't miss and they can take that Albertsons across the street with them.

Yelp
We come here once a year for Santa. It is hands down THE BEST Santa! We are from the Valley, and have visited local to us and Santa Monica, but BHC Santa is by far the best. I completely recommend.

Yelp
Please be careful leaving your car at the parking lot, I went to see a movie at 1:35 pm and came back at 3:30 to find my car broken into. They try turning my car on with a flat head screwdriver but could only turn it on halfway but broke my ignition. The parking lot doesn't have any cameras. There's nothing wrong with the theater but it's not a safe place. Im never going back there again. There's a security car patrolling but that isn't enough.

Yelp
Footlocker here has been awesome, they always have the latest models of shoes and select brands available for purchase keep in mind this is the house of Hoops so don't sleep here on quick strikes or limited editions.

Yelp
Honestly this was one of the worst malls I've ever been to. I'm a little hesitant to say this but it reminds me of failing malls that become abandoned. There are several either closed down or empty stores, and some stores were simply locked despite it being a weekend-- a prime time for shopping. Even a spacious emptiness was the remnants of a Forever 21 that was permanently closed. An escalator was not functioning either. There also happened to be nobody manning a guest services station and several empty kiosks were on the layout. Overall, it felt eerie and even with people inside I felt uncomfortable. I went in to look for a cell phone case and found some really poor options for finding one. Among the shops I browsed into quickly, I was disappointed to see only a few big chain stores and restaurants -- TJ Maxx, Sbarro, Claire's, Game Stop, Auntie Anne's, etc. Other stores were small and not high end, while the food court options were obviously small business (not a bad thing because we should support small businesses, but in the context of a mall, it did not bode well for longevity). It would not be a good shopping experience in my opinion nor would I be able to do an hours long back to school type of shopping or even a clothing spree in this mall. It is located by a theater and other bigger food establishments like Chipotle so it isn't completely unremarkable but it fails in comparison to many I've perused.

Melissa V.

Yelp
this mall sucks. there's barely any good stores and they just replace popular stores for others that nobody's even heard of. This place needs to be renovated. Only thing keeping them in business is probably the Victoria's secret and FootLocker.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting my cousin in the area , I stop by the plaza sometimes. Mall is still got its good and bad points. Ladies here at some of the stores are kind of rude. All i was doing was window shopping and really werent trying to ask any questions unless it was something i was really interested in. Eateries are good here. I was still happy with the mall. Always a pleasure in visiting.

Yelp
Baldwin Hills's Crenshaw Mall - I was in the Baldwin Hills area for only 1 night before heading to the Philippines. We stopped in for last minute things for our flight. It was a pretty basic, or traditional mall. It had pretty much all of the same stores you would see in every mall (Macy's, Cinnabon, Payless Shoes, Foot Locker) to name a few. One store that stood out to me in particular was a new black-owned bookstore called Malik's Bookstore. Malik's bookstore had sooooo many titles of books that I've never heard of, as well as, so many book titles I'm highly familiar with and/or have read over the years. There were really nice calendars, mugs, bags and a huge selection of children's books. That was really nice to see. On the day we stopped in, Malik's bookstore was only opened for about 3 days so be sure to spread the word!

Yelp
Am I the only one that misses Wal-mart?! I really miss it. I love this mall. I loved it before the renovations but I have to admit that the changes really make it look better. This mall deserved a face-lift. I love all the food choices, all the shopping choices Plenty of parking and the movies is right outside?! I could EASILY spend a whole day here. Even just window shopping. I especially love the farmer's market. It's just everything you need in one location. Need to buy a fridge? Hit up Sears. Need to cash a check? Wells Fargo is in the same lot! Want to grub? Buffet, food court and restaurants at your fingertips. I might be biased because I live a 5 minute walk to the BHCP but it holds a special place in my heart.
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
Nothing too luxurious. Simple seats and concessions are a basic movie theater that is a staple for the community. Discount Tuesday is a big plus
google avatar

Kiara G.

Yelp
The Crenshaw Plaza looks so much better after all their renovations. I'm so, so glad that they decided to take the boot-leg Walmart out of there because that foot-traffic was insane. There is a downside to this mall however, it seems like a majority of the businesses in here are food places now. :( As if we aren't all overweight already. I'd say this place has become a place for pre-teens to hang out at for their first dates. lol
google avatar

Ronald M.

Yelp
Looking good BHCP! At least all the renovations indoors I noticed on yesterday's first visit here in several years. Parking is still atrocious though. Tight spaces, and an adventure driving around until an empty space is finally located. Prior to 2007, this was one of my main mall stops while living in South Central LA, as well as several others. Close, convenient and much needed for area residents; think Hawthorne Plaza should this place suddenly disappear. Crime was much of the problem in Hawthorne, thus, fewer and fewer shoppers. Even after moving to Santa Clarita in November of 2006, I still managed to make it down here on occasion for a few haircuts on level 2, as well as a look around for old times sake as I did on yesterday. Keep BHCP alive all you locals!

Kay W.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, bargains. Great Christmas decorations and the food court is ok and conveniently located with lots of seating.
google avatar

Joselyn C.

Yelp
This mall doesn't have many stores but you do have Forever 21, Fashion Store, Children's place, Sears, TJ Maxx and other stores but not many. They have a food court as well Incase you're hungry. Also right next to this place there is a movie theater and it has specials on Wednesday's.

Joe J.

Yelp
Stay away from foot locker... The girls are extremely lazy went on 8/10 around 1pm and they are useless absolutely no help no knowledge nothing and they just stand around like statues .... Who does the hiring.... I ended up taking my business to macys finish line...
google avatar

Keyonda A.

Yelp
I love this mall. Honestly, I don't have any complaints about it. It's always clean and we'll organized. Even the food courts are kept clean which is awesome. In my opinion they have the best directory board. You have access to it right when you walk in. It's color coordinated so the stores your looking for are very easy to find. Although there are cart venues in the middle of the mall, you still have a decent amount of room to walk pass. I can't give those compliments to other mall locations. They consentrate so much on decorating the place until they forget the main objective of it being built. They have awesome eatries there as well. Parking is awesome and easy accessed. Very well organized on coming in and going out. They are even conviently located near bus stops. I don't visit this mall as much as I should because I love to explore but when I do, I always leave hapoy
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
Moved from this area years ago but come every now and then for the makeup services. Only certain entrances were open so it's very inconvenient to get jnto now. You can't exit out of the same entrance either because there is security at every door. Haven't seen this at any mall since COVID. Half the stores were still closed so it was pretty depressing looking especially since it's up in the air of the status of this mall.
google avatar

Barbara W.

Yelp
This mall has finally made a turn for the better. Although this place has a nice little makeover, there are still somethings lacking. There are only 2 major department stores here now, and they seem to lack variety with their inventory. I'm happy the Walmart is gone. It was handy but absolutely always an unpleasant experience. The nice additions is the food court, there is more variety however mall staple Hot Dog On A Stick has been removed. :( There are more conveniences like nail shops and a large beauty supply filled with a huge variety of product, as well as people with friendly helpful smiles. Friendly employees are always a great thing. I'm sure as the dynamics of the neighborhood continue to change this mall will continue to improve.
google avatar

Kim P.

Yelp
When I'm in my moms city, I really like to come here. It's not your typical overcrowded mall. I even get my nails done here. They provide really great service.
google avatar

Toni L.

Yelp
Black Santa was soooo worth us driving 2hrs in traffic from Inland Empire. My baby was so excited to see he was black. He was so nice and engaging!! He took time to talk to and listen to my baby's Christmas list. He even took a moment to talk to us. We never get that from Santa's in the IE. Thank You Crenshaw Mall for having such a wonderful Santa!!!! We will definitely be back next year. Please keep this santa!!! Black Santa is the best!!!!
google avatar

Justo R.

Yelp
Let's face it: Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza is simply NOT the same ever since Walmart closed its doors and ceased operations in January 2016 although Sears, Macy's and TJ Maxx remain the mall's anchor stores. BHCP has certainly come a long way since the days (the 1980s and 1990s) when it was all too well-known as "the ghetto mall" and has gone through many renovations and is now your typical 21st century mall. I personally prefer the Westfield Culver City mall over BHCP when given the choice but I freely admit that BHCP does have a lot to offer despite Walmart's no longer being there.
google avatar

Tina F.

Yelp
Not knowledgeable. Sells goods at a higher price than manufacturer, lies to the customer. GAME STOP. GET YOUR TRAINING GAME UP. The guys are crooks who sell products. Will let Sony know as well.
google avatar

Sheila W.

Yelp
I heard about the workout classes including Zumba, kick boxing and yoga classes offered on different days and time for free. Since I tried it and I'm hooked to the yoga and Zumba classes. It's good to see diversity, ages, and sizes working out. The teachers are fun and you can go at you own pace. No judgement here. Glad to see my community embracing fitness. I would suggest to get there early to get a good spot because space is limited.
google avatar

LaNiecia K.

Yelp
I love this mall. It's not too big or too small. Two major stores and then small community businesses that you feel good about supporting. The Total Woman Gym, the lobby massage chairs, train & vendors is perfect. I am glad WalMart is gone. The two story setup was a chaotic and terrible design. Many shoppers including myself are upset about the mall classics, such as Hot Dog On A Stick being removed. However, the soul food place is awesome!! The veggie plate was super good. We still need a few chain store names. I do miss Magic Johnson owning the theatre. However, I love the African American community feel and events.

Deshay H.

Yelp
I come to eat lunch at the mall, but lately none of the food places are open when the mall opens. Which mean I have to wait 10 to 15 minutes more until the grill gets hot and they can start cooking. I won't be coming back here for lunch. I dont have time to wait 10 to 15 minutes for food to start cooking cause they cant be proficient and be ready to operate as soon as the mall opens.
google avatar

Chhaya N.

Yelp
This is a nice, clean, affordable mall. There are plenty of shopping options as well as food. The mall appears to be renovated and it's beautiful. Also a good place to kill time if you are early for a movie next door at Rave.
google avatar

John Prisilian R.

Yelp
Going the way of the dodo, you can come here to window shop or to get deals on clothes. If not for that Amazon exists
google avatar

Skylar H.

Yelp
Mannnn...... I use to run through this mall when I was younger. This place has had a major upgrade. It looks very nice. Not many stores but the ones that are here are nice. I'm glad to see this mall thriving in 2019.
google avatar

Aspen G.

Yelp
Walmart is not here anymore so that sucks. But anyways this mall is so big yet so pathetic. I really don't even recommend coming here when there are much better malls else where (which I will not mention because this is a review about baldwind and not the other mall) It's so packed and has hardly and good stores or good clothes. Over priced and no good food. the only time I visit is on se Wednesdays when they have $6 movies at the theater.
google avatar

Bridget B.

Yelp
Dr. Erique Emel was highly recommended by my sister, now he is my son's pediatrician. Dr. Emel has lived up to every praise given him by both my nephew and my sister. He is truly a class act. He is always pleasant and a constant professional. He patiently answers all my questions and treats both me and my son with much respect. If anyone is seeking a knowledgeable and caring pediatrician in Los Angeles, I highly recommend Dr. Emel.
google avatar

Nik D.

Yelp
I was surprised to see all the renovations this mall has undergone. I remember being here as a child and it looked completely different from the outside and especially from the inside. There are tons of major shops in here and not simple boutique shops. Stores like Victoria's Secret, foot action, men's land, footlocker, Sears, etc. are all inside of this mall. There also is a movie theater attached to it across the walkway which makes it a great experience as well (not to mention there is a Krispy Kreme donuts across the street). The mall had a solid food court for dining as well as plenty of shops to shop for children, men, women, and overall everyone. If you happen to be in the area I would highly recommend stopping by to see what you can find here for yourself. The only people who would not shop here are the rich lookingfor opulence. But if you're a regular person looking to do normal shopping this is a great mall for you.
google avatar

Isaac H.

Yelp
This mall was not ghetto at all like some people claimed it to be. I had to enter the mall through Macy's. I could not find an entrance to the mall from the Main Street. This mall is nice inside. There was only one vacancy. That is a good sign. I was surprised to see a Rally's in the food court. I have never seen that place inside a mall food court.
google avatar

Sunflower C.

Yelp
I think this mall is kinda small. I only come here because it has Walmart, Doc Popcorn, and Shoe City. Also, this mall doesn't have a Starbucks or Coffee Bean, so if you want coffee you would have to go to McDonald's or CoffeeWalk near the food court. There is also a buffet place called "Americana Buffet," and I went there once and never went there again! I would rather eat at Yoshinoya. It also has some popular stores like Bath & Body Works, Victoria's Secret, Claire's, TJ MAXX, Sears, Forever 21, and Payless shoes.
google avatar

Selena A.

Yelp
Some people say this mall is ghetto and automatically give it a bad review. I'm not going to lie, it is ghetto. Also filled with unhappy workers who rarely offer help from all stores, not just the wal mart. But the Walmart is hell. Anyways I guess what I'm trying to say is that this mall does deserve a bad review due to lack of variety in stores, cleanliness, and employees. I've been to this mall 3 times now and haven't noticed any improvement. Only good thing I can comment on is that the card shop, located by the Auntie Anne's, carries Yuhgi Oh! Cards. Prepare to wait in never ending lines at the Wal mart that provides no customer service while desperately trying to push your cart through the enormous crowd of people.

Celeste L.

Yelp
do not shop @ Footlocker or Kids Footlocker. customer service there is terrible. Especially the footlocker there. the girl that was "helping" us out her name is Brittney. Gave HORRIBLE service + giving attitude. Maybe they didn't train her well but either way you would want your customer to have a good experience & leave happy. She was so rude. Do yourself a favor & just go to a different location. I would much rather spend my money in Champs than in any Footlocker
google avatar

Widson C.

Yelp
It's not a very big mall but there is a lot of culture here in this mall and that's why I like it. It's Black History Month and there are several African American business owners with booths all throughout the mall with everything from art to jewelry. All of the stores are organized and clean. The food court also has a bunch of great eats. There's also a Cinemark movie theater here too.
google avatar

Emma T.

Yelp
The mall has been renovated and is scheduled for an even higher upgrade, they put in some much better stores and it is not as crowded as other malls. They really improved the lighting and now it is very well lite, I can run in and pick up almost anything. They have a Sears, Walmart, AT&T and other service centers there for the community convenience. I really like this Walmart, they carry name brands for much lower prices, they have everything from office supplies to cosmetics and some food items. It is the only store in the mall that opens at 8am, however there is only one entrance to Walmart at that time in the morning, the good thing is there is always plenty of parking during that time and the shelves are stocked and NO LINES. The customer service is always friendly and helpful there as well. They have a Macy's, Victoria Secret,Bath and Body, Forever 21 and one of my Fave TJ Maxx and many other stores in the mall as well. They have Turned Up their Food Court and have many choices too choose from, I think there is something from every culture, I can have Mexican, American, Asian and even desserts , YUM!!!! The parking is easy and they also have some 3 or 4 star restaurants as well as fast food restaurants, a RAVE Theater, Wells Fargo Bank, Baskins Robbins, Staples and more all located on the malls parking lot. A good Farmers Market on Saturday's rain or shine!:):):) They offer a community room for meetings! The best part is I don't have too get all GLAMED UP to shop here, I can wear my work uniform or sweats and it's ALL GOOD, Lol
google avatar

Melodie C.

Yelp
It's a horrible place. Very very poor customer service. They charge for item you want to purchase but don't bag them. So we had to go back and ask for them. Than they say that if we lost the items. Don't give refunds. Ask for items we don't have. As I said horrible customer service will never go there again.

Yelp
I've been coming to the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza for years. Back when there was a Robinson's May here. Before they did all the remodeling and added in some nice establishments like the Raves Theater or the delicious Southern Girl Desserts. When they re-did the mall and made it nicer, I thought it'd be like the Fox Hills mall. (Excuse me.. the Westfield Culver City mall). The Fox Hills mall is nice now, and I enjoy going back for all different stores there. The Target is great but always packed. Anyway, I'm getting off track. This didn't happen with the Baldwin Hills mall. It's still depressing to go to. The walmart is horrible. With long lines and unhappy workers. The selection of stores at the Baldwin Hills mall sucks. There's even a gym in this mall.. but who the hell would want to fight through parking to go to a gym in the mall. I rarely come here now. It's not a very nice mall and the selection of stores suck.

Yelp
Dear Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, Yes, its true, I grew up with an aunt who lived in View Park, and I always thought of you as 'the Ghetto Mall'. Not because I think you are located in 'The Ghetto", but because the quality of your storefronts, merchandise, and yes, patrons was all through the late 80's through to 2002 just GHETTO AS FUCK. But now somebody done dressed yo ass up like a Westfield, run your cookie joint and your Disney Store and your FYE (and honestly half of your other tenants) out of town, and put a Govind Armstrong restaurant in your backyard. And I really want to like you. You have the shittiest selection of any Macy's on earth, but the salesgirls in the perfume department are nice to me. You have disgusting food court options (who the fuck LIKES Sbarro pizza in this decade?!) but the new indian food place is surprisingly decent. I appreciate you revamping the bridge and adding those glass windows... now I can stare out at the Crenshaw traffic clusterfuck while the loud Vietnamese ladies at Fashion Nail Spa give me gel nails. Good lookin' out. The remodel LOOKS good... the Wal-Mart will always bring the place down, though. Please, I beg of you, don't raise the rents so high that new tenants can't afford to put up shop at the new BHCP. Can we get a Victoria's Secret? a Gap? Maybe a Nike store? A new cookie joint? Trust me, lower the rents to get some good tenants in. Otherwise the remodel will have been for naught. PS: My cousins Norm & Paul used to own & operate The Creole Chef- a restaurant off of the Santa Rosalia & Stocker side of BHCP. After being robbed at gunpoint MORE THAN ONCE and with police and mall security failing to respond despite having an LAPD substation inside the damn mall, they packed up shop & left. Please make sure that from 2012 onward, if some shit pops off at the mall, you motherfuckers REACT so that good, prosperous tenants like my cousins & their bomb ass shrimp etoufee don't feel like they have to close up shop or get shot. Grazi!

Yelp
Let's face it: This is hardly a hip, happenin' destination. It is no South Coast Plaza, & it's not even Fox Hills, which is also greatly lacking in spite of its *improvements*. Crenshaw Plaza is a place to get in & out of Macy's without Century City's or Downtown's parking drama. (Free outdoor parking) The *mall* does have a Marshall's, Sear's, Mrs. Field's, See's, & a slew of ethno-specific retailers. Sometimes you need Afro-centric or (increasingly) Latino-focused stores. I mean, where else in LA would you be able to pick up a bright, grape-colored, double-breasted suit & a pair of matching Gators but here? O_O For those new to LA & in-need of black hair care products, but little desire for rollin' out to the Slauson Swap Meet (now euphemized as the "Slauson Super Mall") or some other wild-shady strip mall, the 'Shaw Plaza features a ton of beauty supply spots where you can find a full-on Bonner Brothers suite of hair goos. Some prefer to get their "hur" & nails "did" in the mall. It's certainly less intimidating than frantically going from salon to salon on Crenshaw, tryna' get your Remy sewn in. I will only say this twice: avoid the Crenshaw store-front beauty shops b/c they ARE plagued! Well... unless you're actually INto looking like a Bonner Brothers Convention act. Think rooster do's w/ geometric patterns. But some of you need first-hand experience to believe-- Be on-alert inside of the mall as well, however. Getting one's wefts weaved on the 'Shaw will be no cheap feat. If you're just in on the 4AM Greyhound from the sticks, know that Angels' sistas' pay $150 minimum for weaves & $55+ for a press & curl. And that is c-h-e-a-p! Going to a Melrose salon or Beverly Hills one (frequented by black celebs & wannabes) will run you $250 to $2k, maybe more. I pay $250 at Macy's in the Plaza, the only reason for my 2-star rating. (Oh, yes, of cooouuurse you could get a $50 weave done down the block in The Jungles in someone's apartment. Of course, your tracks could literally fall out at the dinner table as you try to pretend like that wasn't thread everyone just saw land in your gumbo. Been there; got the mortifying experience to prove it. And, no, it really doesn't blend into the roux. And, no, it ISN'T FUNNY!) Aside from "hur", 'Shaw Plaza *features* THEE most disgusting Wal-Mart ever. It IS the Wal-Mart from h*ll, true, but it's also the only Wal-Mart in LA's city borders b/c no one else would allow the supergiant in its neighborhood but South LA. If you've ever felt that Wally was run by pigs, this locale proves to be a true trough. Smelly, overcrowded, gritty, a good place to catch a communicable disease... all perfect descriptors. 99% of those on "People of Walmart" have gotta' be from here. The food court in this mall--? Wait--thaaaaat stuff is supposed to be food? O_o I shudder.
