In particular, the cevapi breakfast wrap comes with minced meat grilled sausages, grilled onions, cheddar cheese, and eggs wrapped in a flatbread and served with ajvar (roasted red pepper spread) and kajmak (clotted cream). It’s a wonderful deviation from the standard egg and cheese sandwich you see everywhere, and a big reason why Detroit’s breakfast sandwich game is so strong. The restaurant, which also has a Ferndale outpost, is best known and lauded for its döner kebab made with roasted lamb and beef, chicken, or falafel smothered in a creamy, tangy white sauce with a kick of heat and lots of vegetables, and a dusting of sumac. Beyond the döner, though, Balkan House also offers an array of salads, wraps, sides, and cevapi, a Balkan sausage made with minced meat and seasoned with red pepper ajvar sauce. To complement the food, the restaurant serves Turkish coffee in traditional copper vessels, as well as an assortment of teas and sodas.
