Alki Restaurant Salty’s Will Get a Giant Sea-Tac Airport Location - Eater Seattle

"Also headed to the airport is a new concept, Ballard Brew Hall. A craft beer bar, it’s billed as 'reflecting the best of Seattle’s craft beer scene'. It appears to have no direct affiliation with any one brewery (including the Ballard Beer Company), and it’s not immediately clear why it’s named for that neighborhood. In any case, expect beer and probably pub food." - Tim Forster

If you hate QR code ordering, then don’t come here. They use QR code ordering. I’m fine using technology, and I found the QR system easy to use. Worked as expected. I arrived earlier in the morning so they weren’t busy. Food met expectations for airport food at a dine-in restaurant, and it’s a full step above the quick grab and go restaurants. My server was great! Definitely exceeded the service I expect at airports. Friendly and attentive, refilled my coffee. He was engaging with people and had a smile. I would stop by again next time I’m at SeaTac.

Joey Toms

Google
I hate QR code ordering. Five dollars to get fries instead of chips on a $20 chicken sandwich. They are "truffle "fries which basically means they have six pieces of shredded cheese on top. Fries were way over salted. Spicy chicken sandwich was fine, nothing to write home about. Brussels sprouts has an appetizer were good. Waitress coming to our table was friendly

Google
Only tried drinks at Ballard Brew Hall so can't speak to any food. Ordering on the QR code was easy, but it did take a bit to get the drink. The atmosphere inside felt cramped and not especially inviting. Our beers were cold though!

Allen Skinner

Google
Pros: Coffee hot and strong. Food quality and portions decent for airport food. Cons: QR code ordering annoying. Server slow and forgot to bring sugar and cream out with coffee.

Kristofor Cristea

Google
Dont come unless you have to. Service is slow. Tables are dirty and I had to clean my own table. The QR code gives you 40 minutes from the time you order unti you leave to close out your tab or else it will close automatically and forcefully add a 22% tip to your bill. My breakfast sandwich was cold all the way through. The toast was soft and soggy, cold eggs, cold bacon, cold everything. The tater tots were also cold. The food pretty much matched the temperature of soda. Yuck.

Mary Beth Wellington

Google
Excellent for an airport eatery. Had a BLT and chips and water for about $22. Good portions, fresh flavorful sandwich. I would go again if in this airport

Traveling Foodie

Google
Okay this place is pricey. But the flavors are on point, the ordering is easy (and you can pay and leave quickly) and the service is nice. The menu probably needs to expand AND reduce some of those insane prices. Though I guess Ballard is expensive so 🤷‍♀️

Jeremy Bub

Google
I always go with chicken fingers when in doubt but I don’t think they served real chicken. It was ultra white inside and tasted like chicken bouillon mixed with cardboard. To top it off the fries were cold and the server was non-existent. This place is bad even for an airport.

Yelp
We stopped by for breakfast and the staff was so friendly and kind. They offered us water to drink even though we were doing takeout, and even filled up our water bottles for us! The food was reasonably priced and service was quick. Thank you Ballard Brew Hall!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, quick services and kind staff. We arrived and you seat yourself. Scan code, order and fresh food delivered with smile. Food was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Located at SeaTac this was THE grossest fish and chips I've ever seen! Especially coming with a Ballard name. Service was great but that doesn't fill you up. Basically $25 for a side of fries
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Good food and service . I tried the adult grilled chez - was tasty with side of beef bullion juice for dipping - nice Pairing . The Elysian IPA was double good ! ambiance was historic Ballard district bar motif
google avatar

Jacob H.

Yelp
No hours of operation displayed, had to ask. Then they opened late, a few customers had to watch them have a 3 person conversation for a few minutes in front of us. No greeting whatsoever when we finally got in. Also, 1 shot of whiskey is 15$

Yelp
SeaTac is a second home to me and I often struggle to find a good meal. However these wings were excellent. Smokey, well done, and good flavor.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Although I didn't eat here, the menu looked delicious and the other patrons around me who had food, it looked good too. I stopped in for a beer before my flight, service was friendly and fast. The bar was stocked, all was clean, cool atmosphere. Will come here again on my next adventure on a plane.

Jessica P.

Yelp
The Fish sandwich was soaking in mayonnaise and not tasty at all. The Truffle fries were better. But at $25 for the sandwich, was expecting something top notch. It took more than 20 minutes to fill in a take-out order which was kind of frustrating with no updates from the server.
google avatar

Mandy E.

Yelp
Service was quick, server was friendly and accommodating, and restaurant was right by our gate. Fish and chips were delicious and the Parmesan truffle fries were crispy and oh so good. Husband had sausage and gravy biscuits and daughter had a cheeseburger and fries. Everyone was happy and full for our plane ride.

Yelp
The ambiance is ok, and the location next to the Airport gates is great. But the service is lacking, they only take orders from a QR code on the table, which yes it says time and paper. But I like to interact with a person when ordering. The food was ok, hamburger I don't have any complaints. But the fries and chips didn't taste right at all. I don't really recommend this restaurant, unless you have a short layover and need to be close to Gates D6 thou D10.
google avatar

Loree C.

Yelp
Busy busy place. The chilies bloody is fantastic. Swapped the vodka for repo please be patient, it's busy & they're hustling! Great service, good food selection too.

Yelp
I cannot stand having to leave a tip before ordering and paying for food. It is so counterintuitive to what a tip is actually for; excellent service. How do I know what kind of service I'm going to get before I get it? And If I wait to tip cash at end do I get crappy service because the server thinks I'm not tipping? This restaurant requires you to use a QR code at the table to order. I hate this . It may be a way to avoid hiring more people but it is impersonal and terrible if you have questions, have a group, or aren't tech savvy. And if im doing the work to place my food why am I being asked for a tip? Service was mediocre. Food was ok. They have you by the kahunas being the only sit down restaurant open late in the gate area we were in. Hard pass next time.
google avatar

Hools W.

Yelp
Fish and chips were both excellent, with fresh lemon and delicious tartar sauce to complement the fish. Ordered through the QR code and service was pretty speedy for made to order food. Lots of seating available. I'd come back here.
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
Brian helped me out today - killer service , super fast, all the above. Held a conversation, got my bill , served everyone else and worked his ass off... Why does this have 2 stars? Because yall are sour airport folks and privileged. Yes it's expensive and yes it's busy, like any other airport ? Although I do agree they should have better beer on tap BUT they do have a decent selection of cans.
google avatar

Yelp
**RAW CHICKEN** I ordered a chicken sandwich and ate a good portion of it before taking a bite that was so rubbery that I had to spit it out. I then realized that the middle of the chicken was not just slightly undercooked, but completely raw. I did let the staff know and they promised a refund but it was not issued. I wish I would have seen all of the Yelp reviews before paying $30 for a sandwich, fries, and soda, not eating the majority of what turned out to be a truly disgusting meal.
google avatar

Yelp
So....it is the airport which means prices are outlandish...I paid $50 for a salad and a beer....but...there are no reasonable options in airports so, if the food is at least decent for the price I'm generally accepting of the situation. They have a nice draft beer selection and I enjoyed an Elysian Dayglow IPA. The salmon and spinach salad was good; the salmon was a decent sized piece and the spinach, berries and goat cheese were fresh. The QR code ordering system is a little annoying as you have to enter all of your information on your phone and then either close out your bill right away, which I did, or remember to do that before you leave, I'd recommend closing out right away as it could be really easy to leave and forget that step since you did already enter all of your billing information. Honestly, kiosks or tablets at the tables would have been nicer than this do everything on your phone in a dimly lit restaurant method...There was one human server who was hustling to bring out food and beverages all by himself to the whole dining room. Somehow he kept up with everything and even got water to everyone soon after arrival. I tucked myself away in a corner table and it was a nice break from the craziness of the terminal.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in for a couple beers and was robbed, I expected more security. Thank god no one got hurt but I only lost $30 and was able to walk out safely with my family and my life. Would not recommend!
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Decent bar food for an expensive price but hey it's airport food so what do you expect? You seat yourself then order from the code at your table. Nothing spectacular about this place but I do enjoy the self serve service because it gives the server a break and speeds up the ordering process.

Julian W.

Yelp
Rubbish, simply asked for crown royal on rocks, took a sip, 100% the taste resembled southern comfort. Asked the tender (fm) if she poured correct and was approached by a couple of gentlemen that swore the drink was pour from the bottle. The gentleman refused to taste and or pour from an unopened bottle when asked to compare and threatened to call 911. Not cool..

Yelp
This place is amazing and the biscuits are to die for. Very friendly service! Scanning the app to order was so easy and paying when I needed to was so convenient.
google avatar

Julie E.

Yelp
You are in an airport. Prices will be high. This place is worth it. Sit down. Scan the app. Place your order. Pay. Hate tipping before service? Me too. Then tip in cash. Hate the app? They will help. Just ask. Brought water right away. Food came out fast. Hot. So good. Chicken is moist and crispy. Biscuits are delicious. Potatoes have just enough salt, crisp outside, soft inside. Sausage gravy - delicious. Alberto was very helpful. Music playing - not too loud. Plenty of TVs. Love the books on the shelves. So much food. If you aren't that hungry, share a meal. Be kind to the staff. Hate the app?, note it here but don't yell/swear at the staff.

Yelp
At airport near to gate D7 , was looking decent with seating so went in. I ordered a veggie burger with trufffle fries , server was good and he brought food in decent time. But when I tasted the burger was impossible patty and not veggie so I asked him and he was nice to check with his manager fro replacement , then I ordered Avocado toast which after few mins he came back and said it's only for breakfast and now they can't cook :( not sure he didn't knew it before as you are working their. Burger was absolutely awful but just that server was good . Ambiance was good with good seating and many people were sitting at bar.

Yelp
This was the worst Restaurant in SeaTac airport that I have ever eaten at. You could seat yourself and order online and pay online in advance. Mind you there is an option to tip prior to knowing what the level of service is doing to be. BEWARE! Our order arrived 30 minutes later. Had we been in a hurry we world have had to cancel. But we were rushed to eat in the end. And to boot, our hot dishes were cold upon arrival. Did they sit there? Our server was fine, but just doing her job. Granted my taste and smell were not in tip top shape because of a cold but the Impossible Burger was impossibly bad! It was over salty and as I said it was cold. Oh, and the truffle fries that i paid $2.99 extra for were NOT truffle fries. They were literally the worst over salted fries! I can't remember what my husband got because i tried to wipe this awful airport expensive slow food experience out of my mind. This is unfortunate when SeaTac airport is upgrading the restaurants and retail.

Yelp
We are at Seattle Airport with an hour to spare and we found Ballard on Gate D. We got chowder which was served hot and it was really delicious. Fish and fries were warm and crispy. The salmon salad which husband ordered was good. Highly recommended if you are in Seattle airport gate D

Alan G.

Yelp
Fish n chips: fish quality was good with a heavy deep fried batter; chips were fries and standard. Caesar salad was disappointing. Asian wings were good. Mix of six legs and wings. You have 40 mins from the time order is placed via the app before your tab is auto-closed with a 22% tip. They will send you a reminder via you phone at 10 mins. Service was good; frequent visits to table.
google avatar

Blake G.

Yelp
The item in question is the 'Chicken Tenders.' They were delicious, and the garlic fries were a pleasant surprise. The fries had an unexpected flavor reminiscent of Korean dried seaweed, complemented by seasoned garlic bits. While the price may appear high for this dish, I can assure you that, in my opinion, the quality of the ingredients was excellent.

Lawrence G.

Yelp
Excellent and huge breakfast sandwiches! Each half sandwich has a fresh cooked egg and a whole sausage patty. And it came with home fries as well. I'm at this airport frequently and this will be my go-to from now on. Also, excellent friendly service from our server Alberto.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
Chicken was dry and tough in the Chicken Caesar. I will go somewhere else next time.
google avatar

Kelly T.

Yelp
Pretty understaffed so if you're in a hurry just get a tall drink, those come out fast. Fish and chips were good but didn't get a chance to take a pic bc it took so long we scarfed it fast to make our flight.
google avatar

Yelp
Several strikes against this place. First, I ordered fish & chips and a beer. Just under forty dollars, not including tip. Even for airport prices, this is high. Second, the portion was tiny. I'm five-seven and a hundred sixty five pounds. I would call this about a third, maybe half of a full meal. Both the 'fish' and the 'chips' portions were small, which is extra frustrating. If you're going to skimp on the fish, at least make up for it on the cheap chips. Third, the flavour was lacking. Nothing was 'bad' by any stretch, but bland and lacking inspiration. Jokes about white-people food should be inserted here. Fourth, you can't really order from the server, you are rail-roaded into ordering from the app. You are not a customer, you are a unit that orders unit-sustenance from the unit-phone. Tips and everything are expected while ordering from the app, before the service, not after. Fifth, the server was fantastic. Unfortunately, they were the only roving server (with someone else behind the bar) for an almost full restaurant. The server did their absolute best to keep up with the rush, but this place really could have used a few extra servers. In summary, you can do better elsewhere at a restaurant that serves better food in better portions and respects the customer and the staff.

Yelp
THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS I'd ever had. And I just came back from an Alaskan cruise. It was amazing how the textures of the soft fish mixed with the earthy flavors of the truffle fries. No need to mention the perfect balance in my plate and the wonderfully understanding and considerate service from the servers. We made it to our gate before boarding and I couldn't stop marveling at the "melt in your mouth" flavorful fish! Everything was chill and beautiful, peaceful and private feeling.

Meagan T.

Yelp
Rough day traveling and this place made it better. Fish n chips hit the spot with their Flavor cocktail menu. The service was slow, not friendly, and they were out of liquor unable to make old fashion or serve chowder. Drama in the staff. This place has potential to be better.
google avatar

Nik G.

Yelp
Bland, boring, slow, expensive. Make sure you go back online and close your already paid for tab or there is a mandatory 22% tip

Kelly B.

Yelp
Food was ok... cheeseburger was good . I didn't order from the app ( as so many here are saying you must do & I paid cash..I didn't order on a tab etc ). High prices..no wonder they don't post prices...few would eat here. I get it .. airport food prices are high..but this is ridiculous at Ballard's.
google avatar

Bridgette R.

Yelp
Great waitress. TERRIBLE tech for ordering. Just let your waitress take the order and get rid of the QR code. Burger was average. $5 UPCHARGE for fries is nuts especially for 12 fries. I know this is an airport but if you charge gourmet prices the burgers better be in house ground. Stay away.
google avatar

Anthony L.

Yelp
Overcharged me and there is no number to call. Will dispute charge if unable to contact them.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Overpriced microwave fare. Bartender was good, beer ok, selection weak. Not much choice at SEA but skip if possible. Interior is nice/big screens/etc. I was generous with 2 stars.
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
Wanted to order a Virgin Mary but that wasn't a option. It was ridiculous bloody Mary, a double kettle, one, by the time that you added a olive, blah blah blah five dollars, for this or that. It would've cost us $35 for one. Way overpriced for everything!
google avatar

Mark O.

Yelp
Very disappointed with service and meal. We were seated by a hostess who told us we would be ordering using QR code. She took our drink order and told us our waiter would be Sean. We ordered and waited 25 minutes for our meal. Kitchen staff brought 2 meals and I'm assuming Sean brought the other 2 meals. That was the only contact we had with Sean. Because we ordered using the QR code , an automatic 22% gratuity was added to our bill. No one asked how our meal was or thanked us for dining. Would not recommend!!!
google avatar

Stacey P.

Yelp
I sat down; ordered, and then read the reviews. Holy.... I was lured in by the appearance but like an incredibly handsome man who when he smiles exposes his black teeth the appearance fell away quickly. This place is rotten through and through. But why two stars then? Because my bartender was incredible. She could do better than this viper's nest. It was uncomfortable for me and I have no idea how she endures this atmosphere. One - they aren't properly stocked. Poor bartender was trying to make ends meet but things like lime juice and vodka was out of stock. What is she to do? Two - the QR codes are mandatory. When a couple guys sat down and wanted to order from the bar the bartender's spineless co-worker deflected to her. She exhaustively said she didn't care if she got in trouble, and pulled out two bottles for the guys and gave it to them. Over hearing what she said to her co-workers it became apparent the QR codes are "expected". Three - her co-workers were awful. The one ducked in and out of the kitchen like a soldier ducking in and out of the trenches. Dodge, roll, dodge, evade! The other followed her around literally singing "I'm going to leave early so you'll have to stay late!!!" and at one point when she walked away he said across the room loud enough for everyone to hear "you hate me if I stay! You hate me if I leave! You hate me either way!" Her manager was a ghost. He popped up unexpectedly and then vanish. Then the food? Ridiculous. I ordered avocado toast because I wanted something light. For the price point I wasn't expecting a slice of toast with an avocado spread and some red pepper flakes. The hash browns was what you'd expect at McDonald's but not at McDonald's prices. But my drink was amazing and the bartender was incredible. She was the only one who greeted people as they entered. The only one who explained how to use the QR codes. The only one who interacted with people. I hope she realizes one day she can do better than this lipstick on a pig operation.

Yelp
No acknowledgement from server at beginning of visit, during, or after. Not even a Hello, Here's your order, Do you need anything else, etc. As a result of lack of service, you must order from the site - wherein descriptions of some items were lacking and nearly all items on several sections of the menu were grayed out as being out of stock. And you must assume upfront what the appropriate tip should be when ordering. (Suggestion to future patrons if deciding to give this establishment a chance - tip poorly or not at all, as this will be commensurate). Beer selection was lacking for a "brew hall", and the fish sandwich (not sure why type of fish it was since it was blind as being described on the site as "local") was lackluster overall. The bartender was the only light in the experience. I do not recommend.

And R.

Yelp
When you call yourselves a brew hall, you have to have a good selection of drat beers to manage your guests' expectations. THIS PLACE ONLY HAS FOUR DRAFT BEERS. At least 6-8 draft lines are standard for a regular restaurant, let alone a beer hall. Also, pints of those beers were $13.50, which is higher than usual. The grown up grilled cheese was decent and the service was pretty good. The Scottish/irish bartender there was great.

Megan M.

Yelp
Terrible service. We walk in and they refuse to take our order. We have to order online. Says they are out of stock on tap water. Okay whatever so we order and get fountain drinks. They are brought to us and I ask the waitress about the water being out of stock and all she does is laugh. We have waited for 30 minutes and still no food. Good grief. Just got food delivered after 40 minutes of waiting. All the food was cold! Yay!
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
Stopped here to try the Brussel Sprouts and a burger! Pretty quiet here. Located in front of D7 gate at the Seattle Airport. Ordered through my phone and food took about 5 minutes to come out. The sprouts were far from bad but I did feel as though they didn't have as much flavor as I was expecting. Regardless, they were all eaten! I took the burger to go - but it looks great! Apparently they are popular, as many others ordered the sprouts while I was here! (And the chowder! I'll have to try next time!)

Thomas Y.

Yelp
Prices are actually insane. I'd recommend going somewhere else. Service took so long. It's such a shame this airport seems to have NO good dining options.

Fiona S.

Yelp
We had water with ice cubes brought to us. I asked for room temperature and all the waiter did was remove the ice cubes and he looked very unhappy to serve. Very unpleasant. It's an airport and there are international travelers. You cannot assume everyone wants ice cold water! Pricing was on the higher end for the quality of food. Quantity was right . Overall not a great experience when waiting staff serve half heartedly.

Marcy F.

Yelp
Food was ok, I am not sure how I feel about personal service when you order the food on the app. We ate lunch here before our flight on August 28. It was little busy and I understand how it is with prices at the airport for food. But 2 burgers and two sodas for 67.00 is a lot.
google avatar

Jim R.

Yelp
Awesome Negroni, they make them with classic 1-1-1 portions. The problems- only one amazing employee did ALL the work while everyone else played with their phones and stared unvaryingly At the filthy floor behind the bar.
google avatar

Ju L.

Yelp
We arrived at Seattle Airport for a layover and were starving. There were long lines of people in front of pretty much all the food establishments. We decided to walk a little further into the terminal and were beyond happy to see that there was no line for Ballard Brew Hall. We basically walked right up to the bar, where the bartender provided us with menus and we ordered what we wanted. At the time, they were serving only a handful of beers, which included 2 or 3 of their own beers, which is kind of odd for a brew hall. They also have your typical domestic bottled beers, but that was also limited to a few as well.   We ordered and paid for our fare and sat ourselves at a table we saw that was available. It didn't take long for our food to be brought out, probably 10-15 minutes, and everything was delicious. Price wise, it was a bit pricey and they could have been more generous with the fries, but for an airport restaurant, this was as good as it's gonna get. Service was pretty good too.
