Ballast Point Officially Closes Chicago Brewpub After Three Years - Eater Chicago

"The venue, with a rooftop deck offering scenic views of the skyline, was meant to court Chicago beer drinkers and give the California company more credence as a national brand. The shutter of the officially named Ballast Point Tasting Room and Kitchen leaves a large vacancy for a restaurant in a Chicago neighborhood where spaces are scarce." - Ashok Selvam

Ballast Point Tasting Room & Kitchen Review - West Loop - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Ballast Point started out in San Diego, but we’re glad it came to Chicago, because it has great beer and above-average bar food (including a “California burrito” that’s just like a regular burrito but with fries - proving that occasionally the West Coast can be just as unhealthy as the Midwest). The huge space feels like a sports bar, and is perfect for big groups who want to hang out and watch a game." - Adrian Kane

Ballast Point May Build Mission Bay Brewery near Warriors Arena - Eater SF

"Pioneering San Diego brewery Ballast Point might have big Bay Area aspirations. The brewery, which famously sold to mega beverage corporation Constellation Brands for $1 billion in 2015, has filed for a beer manufacture license at 705 16th Street in Mission Bay. A 6,300-square-foot restaurant showcasing San Diego-style food like Baja-style fish tacos will be part of the new venue. Ballast Point is best known for its flagship IPA, Sculpin, and variations on it. News of its growth is in keeping with Ballast Point’s aggressive expansion tactics, including opening at Disneyland’s “Downtown Disney” area." - Caleb Pershan

Google
Chill after work vibe. Foods were pretty decent here. If you haven’t tried Ballast Point, try their IPAs.

Google
Good food and beer. Large bar and dining/ lounge to accommodate small to large groups. Pretzel bites are a must try, the cheese sauce it comes with is delicious. Had a few of their entrees, but my go to is their Fried Chicken Thigh Sando. Great place to grub and have a beer after a long day of work, solo or with coworkers.

Coy Tran

Google
I'm a big fan of their beers but, honestly, I tend to lower my expectations with brewery food but this place really did deliver a very high quality and efficient menu of delicious dishes! The chicken wings were fried hot and crispy. The fish and chips were also the same but light and not oily. The slaw and wedge fries were also lightly seasoned and tasty still. Fried chicken thigh sandwich was over sauced but cooked perfectly moist. Caesar salad was nicely tossed with lots of croutons but no sardines. Service was excellent. Ordering through the QR code was simple and efficient. Restrooms were clean. Seat yourself with plenty of tables and bar seats. TV everywhere. Not a bad seat in the house. 2.5 hour validated parking at Owens St garage.

Ballast Point Brewing San Francisco offers beer and food. Both were of high quality, and the service was satisfactory.

Google
Fun atmosphere, good service. “Sincere Cider” was perfect, crisp and sweet. The Porter was chocolatey but not too cute. Good chicken sandwich.

Lots of space and seating for any sized groups. Went with a party of 3 in the afternoon. You can order with a QR code from your table. I enjoy that convenience. Order some different beers. 3 sized available for many of the beverages. So if you just want to sip, you can. I do think a flight would be a good addition to the menu, which currently is not available. They do a brunch every Saturday and Sunday with specialty food items not served during the week. Being from Buffalo, I always order wings anywhere I go to see how every does it. I asked for extra crispy and extra saucy. 🤣 well you guys tried! They weren’t really crispy, but had a nice enough flavor sauce wise, that they weren’t terrible. Need to be spicier… and served with ranch!!?? The chicken Parm sliders were good. Good plate to share. Service was friendly. Bathrooms were clean. An overall nice visit from the east coast, to finally see the brewery we enjoy over here in NY.

Google
Lots of seating inside, bright and spacious. Good for groups and socializing and board games... Great food menu beyond the usual bar food. The garlic fries were piping hot - so good. Wings were saucy. Good draft selection and they have sours and ciders... and kombucha too?! Love love love. Hard to park - limited street parking and garages are hard to access unless you work near by, so you might need to walk a few blocks.

Michael Wu PhD

Google
One of the best brewery. Good vibe, everything is QR Code menu driven, so no pressure, you can relax and take your time. Good food and of course very good beer with lots of choices. You can create your own flight by getting each beer in 4 oz portions. And the venue is well decorated with colorful LED and mural, which is great for photos too.

Yelp
Space/Ambiance (5/5): Came here for trivia night on Wednesday! Loved the setup and learned some interesting things. There are gift card awards for the top three teams. Trivia aside, the place is very spacious and a good place for large sized groups. Also plenty of TVs available to catch sports games, and they had a baseball memorabilia auction on a table and you could just write in how much you wanted to bid for various items. I live nearby so it was an easy 10 walk, but there are multiple public transit options to get there. Parking might be a challenge unless if you don't mind walking further or paying for a nearby garage (although looks like they validate parking). We initially sat in one of the booths because we didn't realize there's a whole separate area where they hold trivia on the far side from the main entrance. We had already ordered, but it was easy to ask the bartenders to switch our tables on the orders so that it got to us. Just gotta take note of what the table numbers are written on the little QR code menus they have at each table. Food (4.5/5): I got the shrimp tacos. A bit pricey for the size ($18 for 3 small tacos with 2 shrimps each; so $3/shrimp haha), but the shrimp was grilled very well and tasted great. My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich, and that was such a large portion for the same price as my tacos. He also got the falafels but couldn't finish them because the sandwich was just so filling. The flavor of the falafels were on point, but it's a shame they were pretty dry. Drinks (4.5/5): I like my IPAs, so I got the Sculpin and Aloha Sculpin to try something that's a bit of a different flavor. I love that there are different sizes available, so I just tried 4 oz of each since I'm a lightweight. I prefer the regular Sculpin. The Aloha version tasted to me like a slightly watered down and fruity flavored version of the original. My boyfriend opted for the nonalcoholic options, and the nonalcoholic hazy IPA tasted almost like a sour and you could definitely tell there's no hoppy taste to it. I ended up finishing it, but my boyfriend barely touched it after a few sips. He ordered one of the kombucha drinks after (I think the mango pineapple one), and it was really good! Overall (4.5/5): Tastes in food and drinks of course vary, but I think they have a good variety on offer. I feel like the ambiance might be a bit different if we weren't participating in trivia, but would still recommend for any beer tastings or a larger gathering!

Yelp
Food - Food is solid and you can order via QR code. Beer options are plentiful and you get descriptions which is nice. Service - It's really hard to wave people down once you are seated due to the aforementioned QR code. I've literally left this place still waiting for food on a night that wasn't busy (we got seated with no wait time). 45 minutes for an order of fries with no update is madness.I've also had my order be wrong and even the host couldn't get someone to come to the table. Ambiance - Not quite a brewery vibe, but still great place to watch the game. Very clean and lots of seating options.

Yelp
My wife and a few of my friends from work decided to stop by for drinks. Ballast Point has a good selection of beer. We ordered the Two Towns cider and were happy with the 16oz pours. Coworkers liked the watermelon and grapefruit IPAs. I was not impressed with food bites. We ordered the lemon pepper wings and they seemed super salty and overcooked. The garlic fries with Parmesan and truffle were fine - my wife finished every last one. The online ordering system worked great and we got our orders pretty quickly. We went during an off peak time so there weren't many of us there to enjoy the clean, large space. Good place to chill n have a drink with average food

Yelp
Great spot for dinner before heading to Chase Center. Delicious smashburger, excellent chicken sandwich, and great fries. Good vibes and wide selection of beer. The service was on point. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Date: Wednesday, June 12th, 2024 Time: 6:15pm Party of: 2 Meal: Dinner before a concert at Chase Reservations Made: via OpenTable the day before *16oz California Kolsch ($9) *Belgium Pretzel Bites ($15) *Broiled Deviled Eggs ($12) *Spinach Artichoke ($16) *Garlic Parmesan Fries ($12) *16oz Longfin Lager ($9) *Surcharge ($3.65) A girlfriend and I were going to the Janet Jackson concert at 8pm. We figured we should meet up for some food beforehand. I looked around and this was the only place offering reservations at a time that worked with the concert and was after work hours. I would highly recommend making a rez as it was busy when I got here. You scan the QR code on the table and order everything online. You can't request glasses of water or anything, so make sure to remember to ask when your drinks and food are delivered. No one checks on you or anything. I still tipped 20% since I just do that automatically, but there's really no service in the traditional way here if you think about it. The food was fine. Just your typical bar bites. Tho the fries were my fav. Very garlicky and savory. Definitely the best dish. The pretzel bites were too fluffy and chewy in the wrong way. I wanted the texture to resemble a carnival soft pretzel. The cheese was also too thin. The beers were good. I'm not much of a beer drinker if there's liquor around, but it's easy to sip on. They were out of the beer that reminded me of a belgian witbier, so I picked the ones above. Convenient if you want to grab some drinks and food before going to Chase Center where a 16oz beer runs $16. Definitely better on my pocketbook. REVIEW #3454

Yelp
Huge beautiful location in Mission Bay, walking distance to Chase Center. Was able to get free parking not too far away. Plenty of seat-yourself seating options from high-top tables, booths, and at the bar. Order beer and food from QR code. Beer is good and refreshing, but nothing spectacular. Does pair great with their food though. We opted for the Blue Crab Dip, Deviled Eggs, and Fish Tacos. The devilled eggs were super flavorful and unique. The dip was warm and comforting, paired with homemade potato chips and fresh slices of cucumber. And the tacos, classic. It was a bit expensive but worth a visit every once in a while.

Yelp
At the outset, the beer was delicious. However, before noon the restaurant was out of steak, fish and chips and another entrée don't recall. So, I ordered smashed burgers and salad. These words are difficult to my lips but it was 2 burnt black patties, on a great bun with Russian dressing lettuce and tomato maybe some chopped peppers. It was really bad. Yo add insult to injury the salad had barely any lettuce and all filler - nothing remotely tasty. Worst $18.00 burger in SF. I'll try again and hopefully have an update.

Yelp
Their Chai Victory at Sea beer had a strong chai test, and if you're into dark beers, this is certainly a palatable drink. Their Habanero Sculpin IPA also was very savory, but expect there to be a lingering spice in your throat and stomach after drinking. I certainly would get beers from here again. The nachos were surprisingly jam packed with flavor. Perhaps the best part of it was the generous portion of queso and sour cream we found at the bottom of the plate, making those final chips very yummy and filling.

Yelp
So excited that this place opened up down the street from my office!!! It still feels like a hidden gem since its still fairly new, so I didn't encounter any lunch rush.... YET! I'm sure the word will get out soon though. Love Ballast Point brews so I know I'm going to have to try a new brew on the menu every visit. Seat yourself, scan the QR code at the table and start ordering food and drinks. You can even leave your tab open if you plan on ordering more brews/food as you go. Food portions are fairly large as I split the Fish Tacos and the Fried Chicken Sandwich with one of my friends. We barely finish both items and the extra order of fries wasn't necessary. Also ordered the Cheese Curds, which is what probably set me over the top lol Overall, service was fast, brews were cold/fun/tasty, and the food was pretty good. Can't wait to come back and try out the other items on the menu.
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
This is a favorite for our team after work since it is easy to order with a big party using the QR code so that everyone can add their own order to the tab. We enjoy the beers as well as the cheese curds and other apps. It's never too crowded and if you come before too many people are off work, you can seat a big party right away.

Yelp
It's a shining example of what a restaurant should be. Fantastic service, food, and ambiance. Tons of TVs all with every sports package you could imagine. If you're looking for a local space in Mission Bay, or a place to pre/post game after a Warriors or Giants game you'll be hard pressed to find a better environment than Ballast Point.

Yelp
My go to happy hour in Mission bay! The $10 happy hour deals which includes food AND a beer from 4-6P Tuesday to Thursday are well worth it ! The location is conveniently located and has lots of seating options which makes it good for large parties and casual gatherings. All the orders are via QR codes and you seat yourself- but usually everything comes very quickly! Can't wait to come back for the hot dog and beer specials as well!
google avatar

Erica Y.

Yelp
Awesome ambience with great beers, great service, and great food! Ambiance- tall ceilings, plenty of areas to sit with furniture of your choice -- the bar with high stools for a casual experience, table with 4 chairs for a sit down experience, etc. The place is huge so it's easy to get a seat! Beer- their selection is really good, and I love how they sell 4oz pours so you can get a little bit of something so you're not stuck with a whole pour of something you don't like. I like their watermelon beer the most! Food- the food pleasantly surprised me! They have a good bar bites selection, that seems thoughtfully made, not just some old slapped together bar food. Service- everyone here is so nice! They seem like a family, and I got the sense there was a good camaraderie here among the staff, which always trickles down into the environment. A great place to catch up with friends or watch a game!

Yelp
It's in a weird location, almost right under the highway and by the train tracks, but it's a beer bar worth looking for! I've been to the San Diego locations several times, and I've always enjoyed their beers, particularly the Sculpin IPA. I came in on a nice weekday afternoon, since Anchor Brewing (now closed) was packed. It was pretty empty, so I grabbed a seat at the bar. I was able to try a few beers before settling on a hazy IPA. It's a decent place to get work done as well. I was able to pull out my laptop and send a few work emails. I think they validate for the adjacent garage, but, I'm not sure about the details. It's a really nice neighborhood spot!

Yelp
The beer is the beer. Pretty typical Ballast Point tap fare. The burger and fries were delicious. The day bartender during the week was very personable and helpful. The restrooms were nice and clean.

Yelp
First thing, they validate 2.5 hours of parking. That alone is worth over $10 - $10 that you can use towards a beer or two. Second of all, when you walk into the restaurant you see a wall of taps to your right, the steel tanks to your left, and the merchandise in front of you. Depending on the time of day, you can seat yourself. There are QR codes on each table and if you need they have a paper menu for you. With the QR codes, you can place your orders and choose to keep the tab open or close it. For those who are not technology savvy, they come by to take your order. Note: it seems like more breweries (and restaurants) are moving towards this system and in my honest opinion, I think it is great because it helps facilitate quicker service and you can enjoy your beer faster! I ordered two taster sizes of beers and one was poured more than the 4 oz that it said I was going to get - score! I also had the chili corn dog - a must-have in my opinion. I ordered some stuff to-go and wasn't sure how to indicate it on the app, so I asked the staff and they told me to place it and he would go into the kitchen to tell them that the order was to-go. The staff was friendly and appreciative of their clients. This location is within walking distance of Chase Center, UCSF, and Kaiser Mission Bay. As well as public transportation. As a beer aficionado l love that there are more and more brewery pubs open around the area!
google avatar

Anthony H.

Yelp
This place is a lot of fun to go to for after work happy hours. The beer is very good and you can get cheap 4oz pours in any amount for any beer which is a really fun way to do flights and taste many different beers. The food is good but it is very expensive for what it is. However, the appetizers are usually big enough to make it worth it and the happy hour meals Tuesday through Thursday are definitely worth it. Service is typical for a brewery. The restaurant could benefit from some more decor it's rather minimalist and cold.

Yelp
Huge brewery with plenty of seats indoor and outdoor in a nice area of SF! The online menu looks small but if you actually order inside they have tons of food and drink to choose from. Plenty of snacks and full on meals! I had the smash burger, and it was so filling and tasty. The meat to bun ratio was perfect since there was a double patty. The fries were also perfectly crispy and thick. I love having a nicer brewery in the neighborhood and will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Jiwon K.

Yelp
Ballast point is one of my favorites in San Diego so was super excited to see a location in sf!!! You can easily order through your phone which is convenient and can order tasters, half, and full pours. We tried the various sculpins and some meatballs to go with it. Beers were delicious and the meatballs were pretty good as well. Super spacious spot like the other locations and good selection of beers. Can't wait to be back.

Yelp
The food did not taste good at all this time around. I ordered the BBQ pizza, but it was missing a couple of Ingredients, there was no arugula or jalapenos. All because they were out and did not inform me about it until I asked. The Parmesan Garlic fries did not have harley any garlic, but a lot of parmesan. we left them on the table. There is no real service. You order online, and they just bring it to you and leave you to it. You also pay online. Cool ambiance, tho. There's music playing in the background and dozens of t v's playing sports. If I could get a full refund, I would. It was not hitting last night 510 day

Yelp
We tried about 10 different flavors of beer and ordered the truffle fries. We did not like most of the beer flavors and there was no truffle on the fries. When I told the server, the server came back and said the kitchen said they added the truffle and brought me a container of truffle oil -_- which is not the same! You're supposed to lightly toss the oil as soon as the fries come out of the fryer. Not dump cold truffle oil on already cold fries. The worst part was the server's attitude, we probably won't be back.

Yelp
Love it! It's been a few years since I've been to Ballast Point in San Diego. So it was pretty exciting to see that the brewery now has a taproom in SF. The space is very fitting of the neighborhood. Cool, spacious, modern and lots of natural light. There are two large bar areas and lots of tables and seating. The beers were delish. Classic on taps for now and more to come later. The food menu was done well. A nice variety and something for everyone. I highly recommend the smash burger and chicharrones. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Great new add to the breweries in the pothill/dogpatch/mission bay area! Met a couple friends here for a drink. The place is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. There's plenty of booths/tables/bar seating available. There are two bars! Ordering is easy with a QR code on your table with ordering and payment all made available from your phone. There's a merch store when you first walk in. And just like most places in the area, it is pet friendly! 4/5 Chicharrones - never had this served with guac. Pleasantly surprised! They don't skimp out on the guac. 3/5 Fries - felt a little hard. Was just okay.

Yelp
Went to Ballast Point for a company event. This place is very spacious and can seat over 200 people. The restaurant is very clean and has a pristine sort of feel. You can see the brewery area through the glass walls in the hallway heading towards the restrooms. Our server was very attentive and has excellent beer recommendations. There was a happy hour special on the menu for that eat -- 6 wings and a beer for $10. You have the option to have the wings with sculpin hot sauce or Korean sticky glaze sauce. I preferred the sculpin hot sauce flavor more. Our table ordered a bunch of food and beers and shared it family style. We ordered (food wise): Wings, fish tacos, chicken burger, meatballs, crab slider, mini croissants, Hamachi crudo, and garlic fries! Beer: Ace Cider: Guava, Haze in the Park IPA, Flying Embers: Orange Passion Mimosa, Calico Amber, Aloha Sculpin IPA, and Grapefruit Sculpin IPA. Overall, this place is great. Excellent for company events, after game events, happy hours, or just trying out a new brewery that opened in town.

Yelp
Just tried their weekend brunch buffet. As I suspected it was pretty much empty when we got there on a Sunday around 10am. There was only 1 other couple dining. The manager, I assumed, welcomed us and explained what was included in the buffet. Said it was $35/pp. They also have bottomless mimosa for an additional charge. There is a lot included in the buffet. I hope it becomes successful here. I know the other Ballast Point locations serve brunch, but not buffet style. My favorite items were the oysters, steamed crab, cocktail shrimp, millionaire's bacon, heirloom tomatoes with burrata and other veggies, juices and the cooked to order omelette. For $35 I think it is a good deal. Didn't get to try the prime rib or ham as we were stuffed. They had local coffee served but I found it to be light. Also some ingredients were not available such as mascarpone for the brioche French toast or goat and Gruyère cheese for the omelettes Still, they have a lot offered for their buffet. I did try calling several times around 9:30 am to confirm if the weekend brunch was still happening and no one answered. I figured they didn't have a lot of staff available. Just when we were paying our bill, 2 separate groups of diners came. I wish them good great success in this neighborhood! I'll be back to try their happy hour next time!

Michael K.

Yelp
We were all thoroughly impressed by the kitchen here! The food was so good, and ordering for the group was easy through Toast. We got the Korean style chicken wings, Ballast Point hot sauce style chicken wings, fish tacos, burger, pretzel bites, schnitzel, house-made chips with dip (AMAZING CHIPS), and more! The beers were delicious as well. I really enjoyed the Japanese lager and the Kings & Convicts IPA. Sadly they were sold out of sours and quite a few other beers but their draft list was still pretty extensive!
google avatar

Jacky W.

Yelp
Food was mediocre. The appetizer taco was soggy and fell apart. Service was fine, you can get water yourself if you've already had too much beer. Great space for catching up with friends or watch a sports game. Beer is great! Lots of choices.

The buffet begins with triple melon fruit and Caesar salads as well as fruit skewers spiced with tajin. One of the menu stars is their Seafood Tower, offering fresh local oysters, mussels, and prawns, with fresh condiments. Next is a house-cured smoked salmon spread with fresh assorted bagels, cream cheese, pickled vegetables, cucumbers, and capers. This remarkable brunch adventure continues! Hot offerings include blue crab Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs with goat cheese, heirloom tomatoes and chives, roasted Harissa-spiced baby potato hash, and mixed artisanal sausages. And a custom omelette station for an omelette-however-you-desire treat. And yet MORE? That must-have brunch carving station that Ballast Point serves up includes Rosemary Black Pepper crusted prime rib you can top with whipped horseradish cream, honey-pineapple glazed Virginia ham, and a sweet accompaniment of fresh baked dinner rolls. Top this off with Brioche French Toast, mini-fruit tarts, fresh muffins and assorted Danish and you have the penultimate San Francisco Brunch experience. (Oh, did I forget the assortment of cold pressed juices--carrot/tumeric, ginger/honeydew & orange--that are also included? As well as the Bottomless Mimosa or Michlada beverage options.) The spacious dining room in sunny Mission Bay features floor-to-ceiling windows of city life going by, and this fantastic weekend feast is a bargain, as well--$34 (drink specials extra). Sports fans can also take in the weekend games on several large-screen TVs so you won't miss a thing. Lucky to have discovered this new weekend destination--count on Ballast Point becoming the most popular weekend brunch in town!

Yelp
So you're telling me I don't have to be in SoCal to get some of these amazing brews?! I love this mission bay location which is super spacious inside. We came in a bit later with about an hour and a half left til closing, but we were able to order food and brews. A fave of mine is the sculpin ipa and I tried it hazy tonight. I love the citrus notes and the haze gave it an extra layer of flavor. They had a ton of other flavors too that I'm excited to go back and try. I also ordered the chicken sandwhich which was 10/10. Chicken was super juicy and crispy with a really good sauce inside. Wish they gave more fries but that combined with the sandwhich made me full. Well it's about time we finally got a ballast point in the bay!

Yelp
Ballast Point used to make the best beers 10 years ago but somewhere along the way they fell off my radar. I recently stepped into this location, curious to see if it was as good as I remembered it to be - and sadly it was the definition of "meh" - stale, musty beers, outrageous food prices, and bland, sterile sports bar ambience. Service was fine. But - If you're like me and curious to re-try Ballast Point, I wouldn't really recommend it.

Yelp
Walked in on a Friday around 1pm, was greeted by the hostess. Seating was pretty open, so I grabbed a spot at the bar. They just started lunch service this week so definitely worth checking out. Drinks: Beer is served in 3 sizes here a 4oz, 8oz or 16oz pour. There's no official flight offered on the menu but you can build your own by choosing multiple 4oz pours. California Kolch - light, crisp and refreshing, this Kolch had a slight tanginess to it, definitely a nice way to start the flight. Daiso Lager - malty and rounded, with slight buttery note, this was light but flavorful. Aloha Sculpin IPA - a hazy IPA with slight fruity tropical notes, not too hoppy or bitter, was hoping for a bit more tropical fruit but still good Calico Amber - a nice amber ale with balanced maltiness and a slightly hoppy finish, surprisingly refreshing Service was good, bartender was knowledgeable about the beer selection and had great recommendations. Overall nice to see a Ballest Point in the bay area. Nice spot to grab a drink and watch a game on TV, there were multiple dotted throughout the bar and dining area. A pint is on the pricier end here but I think it's still worth checking out.

Yelp
Overall, not a fan. Ordering all happens on your phone so no real service. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were lack luster. The shrimp didn't taste like it was seasoned and the tortillas weren't warm. The pretzel bites didn't hit and even the fries that came with the fish and chips were bad. I would not recommend ordering food here. (Or at least, the pretzels, the fish and chips and the shrimp tacos). Standard industrial bar vibes-pretty sterile and boring.

Yelp
Re-updating my previous review because they removed all but one cider option!! Very disappointed

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood although it is quite small in comparison to the ballast points in SoCal. But for the Area it's great. High ceilings and plenty of seating for some bites and brews - they even have private rooms for large parties.

Yelp
Very modern and sophisticated vibe; from the loft style space, to the fluorescent lighting - this isn't the type of brewery where you go to not be seen. (Maybe eaze up on the lighting guys..?) The beer is good - and the food will improve - I'm sure .. I say that having the hallmark San Diego ballast as a comparative, where the food was exceptionally good. (I mean wow that octopus?!) I recommend trying the "popcorn" appi - it's unique and pleasant to munch on w the beers. The burger was okay but gets job done. The fries were fuego. Sadly- no doggos allowed inside (I think?) .. but maybe I'm wrong and just assumed.

Yelp
Ballast Point SF is a fantastic brewery and taproom with a lively atmosphere. They offer a wide range of craft beers, each bursting with unique flavors. The spacious setting is perfect for gatherings with friends, a great spot to soak in the San Francisco vibe while enjoying your brew. It's a must-visit for beer enthusiasts looking for a good time in the city.

Yelp
Had lunch with my wife and daughter at Ballast Point Brewery today. The Smash Burgers were delicious. They also had a beer I haven't been able to find here in the Bay Area for a few years. Calm Before the Storm , a cream ale. I was able to purchase some to take home and share with friends. Mike the General Mgr was very welcoming and service was excellent.

Yelp
This location doesn't open until next week, but we got a preview for SF Beer week! Overall they had the great beers ballast point is known for and appreciate not having to drive to so cal to enjoy them! The waiter mentioned they were expecting 600 people and it felt busy and service was a little slow but also it's their first practice evening. Be kind the first few weeks as they get into their rhythm/ We also got to try some passed apps from the kitchen so good, can't wait for the full menu!

Yelp
San Diego's famous brewery is finally here!! They have a full service kitchen along with plenty of beer options. The food is super delicious and I was pleasantly surprised with their upscale menu options since most breweries I've been to only serve burgers and fries. My favorite beers were the guava and ace cider because I don't like anything too bitter/stouts. The inside is huge and it's a walkable distance away from any baseball or basketball games. This is a fantastic pre-game spot or hangout spots for friends! | IG: Smackinfood

Yelp
This place is huge! And a bunch of televisions for catching whatever game interests you. Ballast Point's beer is good and the food menu is as well. This is a great spot to grab dinner and a pint before heading over to Chase. I've been here a couple of times for just that reason, so stop in. Our server last time was great as well.

Yelp
Fantastic food that fills quite nicely yet looks irresistible on the plate. I can't believe a brew pub can have this food quality and flavor of deliciousness and have some delicious IPAs under the same roof! The location is a bit restrained with modern, chic interiors. Will this place survive in SF? I hope so! You e got the Chase Center (CC) nearby and better tasting overall than Harmonic Brewery at the CC. I had some perfectly made Baja style fish tacos with a roasted chili and citrusy spicy and crunchy Jicama on the side. I can't wait to try more of the menu in the near future.

Yelp
I grew up going to the Ballast Point in San Diego, so when I heard they were opening one in San Francisco I was beyond excited! Food was surprisingly good! We got the Fried Chicken Sandwich and Grown Up Grilled Cheese, both were tasty and filling (~$16-17). You order from your phone and the drinks/food came out fast, our server was also attentive with water. The space is large and I'm excited to come back before/after a Giants/ Warriors game. Only negative is that free parking can be challenging. I'll be back again!

Yelp
Nice, large space with two large bars and plenty of seating for larger parties. The beers and food were tasty. Got the Speedboat beer which was unique in flavor and tasted like vacation. Also got the Thursday happy hour deal which is a beer and six wings for $10. The wings were good, as well as the deviled eggs and pretzel bites. Three stars as the bar staff spent the majority of their time talking to each other rather than attending to patrons; we often had to flag someone down for more beer/food while sitting at the bar. Also, the deviled eggs are listed at $12 on the menu but I was charged $14. Still a few things to iron out but recommended for a good happy hour deal and yummy beers.

Yelp
I don't generally expect brewery restaurants to have excellent food, but our weekend brunch at Ballast Point completely blew me away! We ordered many things to try, and our favorites are: Roasted Dungeness crab: so fresh and perfectly prepared. The execution level of this dish is truly exceptional - on par with what you otherwise would expect to find at an upscale dining establishment. Ribeye cap steak and eggs: chef Jose told us that the meat is almost as tender as filet mignon (without the price tag). He was absolutely right! I will definitely order this again when we go back. Swedish pancakes with cognac maple syrup, cherry jam and smoked butter - they are more like crepes. Wow.. so good that we polished this off within minutes. Many thanks to chef Jose and Travis (GM) who said that we were the first brunch guests of 2024 and who treated us like royalty. Free coffee refills + friendly service. This is truly one of the best brunch spots in Mission Bay! Note: they no longer offer a weekend brunch buffet. Most of the same options remain on the menu, but you simply order a la carte.

Yelp
A group of coworkers and I came to Ballast Point on a Thursday evening for happy hour, and I am so glad we did. We had a pretty big party, and we were served all of our food and drinks quickly and definitely were well taken care of. They have some unique beer choices, and I ended up really liking them. The Watermelon double IPA was probably my favorite, although they only give you a half pour (understandable since it's a double IPA). I also really enjoyed the Habanero IPA, I haven't really tried anything like it before and it exceeded my expectations. The Thursday happy hour deal was great- $10 for wings and a beer. Our group took full advantage of the deal and the wings were really good. We also had the bone marrow, and it was incredible. Definitely don't pass up on ordering food here with your drinks, you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Enormous new space in Mission Bay, walking distance from Chase Center. Super clean, bright, spacious, good service and beers. But oddly enough what I'm most impressed about: their plain seasoned fries. They are by far the best brewery fries in town. Super crispy outside and chewy inside. Not overly salted or greasy. Just perfectly crisp and satisfying. Do yourself a favor and order with your beer. Secret's out. You're welcome!

Yelp
We had a party of 15 and reserved a table. I can't say enough good things about how great the staff was! Lawrence, mgr, was absolutely fantastic and very accommodating. The bartender and service staff were incredible! They were attentive and consistently checked in on our group. Our party ordered several food items and everything was great! The pretzel bites, cheese curds, fries, were fantastic. The stand out entrees were the smash burger, Cesar chicken salad, chicken sando, shrimp tacos, and flat bread. We ordered several beers and all were great! Interior is huge and great for watching sports events, playing corn hole, or just hanging out. It was super clean and the restrooms were some of the cleanest I have ever seen. You have to give this place a try! Thank you Ballast Point!

Yelp
Been here twice, once for their soft opening and then for the grand opening. Both times I've had excellent service! My server was Julian and he was very friendly and knowledgeable about beers and Ballast's history. Since it's only a tasting room it has a somewhat smaller venue compared to their SoCal locations (eg the OG in Miramar) but the beers taste the same because they're brewed in SD! Onto the beers.. I've been able to try the following between my two visit haha. My overall favorites are def the Haze in the Park and Victory at Sea. -Aloha Hazy (7%): nice variation of their sculpin, not bitter at all -Flying embers orange passion mimosa (6.9%): don't normally order kombuchas but this one has a super fruity fragrance and tastes like juice -Watermelon dorado DIPA (10%): dangerous! Just taste like watermelon jolly ranchers -Haze in the Park (6.2%): very solid hazy. Could easily drink 2-3 of these (speaking from personal experience lol) -Victory at Sea (10%): if ya like coffee or vanilla, try this In terms of food they have a lot of different options like bone marrow, fish tacos, short ribs and a burger. But all I wanted was some French fries (eg truffle fries??) to snack on and as of this review they don't have fries as a stand-alone item haha. But I noticed they have fries with their burger or chicken tenders if you order those so that's what I did. Chicken tender and fries were good (be sure to ask for ranch). Overall would def recommend visiting this location if in the area!
