The Best New Bars in Miami, 2023 | Eater Miami

"Trader Vic’s has a history that dates back to 1930s Oakland, California, but the most recent iteration of this tropical bar is hidden on Española Way in Miami Beach, inside the dark, swanky Esmé hotel. Paying tribute to the chain’s near-century-long history through Polynesian-style tiki drinks (the founder of Trader Vic’s is said to have invented the original Mai Tai in 1944), every cocktail is inspired by a different city of the brand’s past with the menu passport stamp to match. With 20-plus cocktails on the list, the El Polinesio is a must. Best described as a tiki-inspired effervescent daiquiri with a mint infusion, this drink evokes El Polinesio, a bar inside Havana’s Habana Libre hotel, which was once a Trader Vic’s (and is still pretty perfectly preserved to this day). Drinking with a group? Get a $60 Scorpion Bowl for four." - Allison Ramirez

Open Jam on Thursdays is amazing. So much fun watching local musicians share the stage and live out their passion. Tonight, a young lady joined in and rocked the drums. My favorite is the nicest lady who does the tamboreens who is always smiling. A definite highlight is awesome Alley bartender extraordinaire. She even laughed at my jokes.

It's a great space upstairs. The stage is a nice size. My only complaint is the tables are too small. We were a party of 6 last Friday night & it was a tight squeeze. Otherwise, it's a great space for music!

Wonderful music venue. Acoustics are superb. Beautiful decor and comfortable seating and tables. If you like dark beer I recommend these: Dragons Milk and Porter Stout.

Stopped here after dinner. This place is huge but still feels cozy. Lots of stairs, so they loose a star as it wasn't easy for some in our group. What a great venue for live music!

The iconic Bamboo Room! A beacon of live music in Lake Worth! Mary Beth has done the amazing!

Google
Speaking as a visitor to the local music scene, and a musician who plays actively up and down the east coast, this might be the most insular, least welcoming venue I have ever visited. Saturday song circle is completely closed to visitors. After calling, and visiting multiple times, and being assured this would be open to visitors....nope. If you're not a regular...cold shoulder. I've had warmer receptions in punk bars in NY.

Awesome place to visit if you’re looking for a live band! The vibe was all there! I will return!

I have NO idea what anyone sees in this place. Beverage selection is awful, service is terrible, management is arrogant and self important....but I guess when you're the only game in town, you really don't have to offer very much!

Yelp
Countering John W's review, I'd have to say I am scratching my head on his issue? The Bamboo has a full bar, great service, and a very good sound system in place. In fact, the owner just upgraded the side speakers with new JBLs that kick ass. John, please let me know what you'd like to see improved and we will gladly look into it! Marty

Yelp
I've visited twice for the Saturday afternoon pickers event. The first, by accident. The second, intentional. First time in, I was the only person at the bar. The bartender was cordial and warmed up throughout my stay. The music started slow but players trickled in through the afternoon as did a few tables of listeners. In the end, I had a terrific time. Second time in I brought my wife. Open Jams are not her Jam (cute huh? :). She had a blast! The bartender is cool guy. Can't speak to his skills, we drank beer and seltzer but in all, it's a cool place with energy and a bohemian feel. I'm the least bohemian guy in any room and I enjoyed it.

Yelp
Great owner and staff. Fun live music. Love this place. My favorite is the Sunday 5-8 blues music and the events on the patio.

John W.

Yelp
Unbelievable......with a drink selection that can only be described as paltry, sound quality that is reminiscent of a grade school gym, and service that raises "reticence" to an art from, it's hard to believe that this place survives the slow season. I wonder when Marty will decide his battle might have been poorly chosen?

Jack M.

Yelp
Things must be VASTLY different in LWB from Charleston....and that doesn't seem like a good thing, considering how important the tourist trade is to Florida. Look, if a place can manage to survive here with poor service, poor sound quality, and terrible beverage selection, more power to you, but at home they wouldn't last a month. Jes sayin......

Charles S.

Yelp
Look, I really wish I could follow my mother's guidelines ("if you can't say something nice....."), but There just isn't very much here that is scraping the absolute bottom. Acoustics are mediocre at best, beverage selection is not EVEN mediocre, and employees must have been recruited from the Vlad Putin Charm School. Seriously.....

John F.

Yelp
Oh, boy.....where to start? Beverage selection is paltry, service is slow and resentful. I'm really not certain how they manage to continue, but I guess it's true what they say about nature abhors a vacuum. Really poor experience.....

Yelp
Speaking as a visitor to the music scene, and a musician who plays actively up and down the east coast, this might be the least welcoming, most insular music venue I have ever visited. Saturday song circle is completely closed to visitors. Knowing there was an art festival in town this weekend, I called and visited several times during the 4 days prior to, and was repeatedly told it would be an event open to visiting musicians. Nope.....not even SLIGHTLY. If you're not a regular, cold shoulder. I've had warmer welcomes at punk bars in NY.

Yelp
I was recently In Lake Worth and had the chance, a couple of times, to participate in the Wednesday Night Open Mic event. First of all, what a great space and stage with a very cool vibe that hearkens to a bygone era - it's worth the trek up the stairs just to take in all of that. There is the customary signup sheet that allows each performer a two-song slot in the running order, along with the " Featured Artists" who, from what I understand, are local/ regional players who do a handful of tunes at the midway point in the evening. Marty Jennings, the MC, handles the sign-up sheet, sets the stage, mixes the sound and at times accompanies performers deftly on guitar from behind the mixing board. A wide range of styles /skill levels describes the various performers and with the audience members largely being players themselves, there's a warm, supportive "jury" if you will, of ones' peers - for such a large room, it is surprising how quiet a listening room it can become. It is my understanding that the performers' starting time has now been expanded to run 6:00 - 10:00 to accommodate increased participation, so I would confirm timing before heading to The Bamboo Room. My guess is that you will be returning. Clark Robins, Richmond VA

Inside, outside, upstairs and downstairs! We'll keep you on the move! Live music everywhere! Full bar now too! Great food and great service! Check it out!

Yelp
Super fun venue for live music. I never ordered food until last night when I discovered their meatball parm sub. OMG!!! Don't be afraid to take advantage of that kitchen!! Would give 5 stars if there was a full bar.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Yes you have to go down steps to order then bring your food back up but it's so worth it. I was annoyed about the up and down and all around the town journey but once I tasted the flavor in the salmon pasta......I forgot I the journey even happened!!! :-) The service in the actual bamboo room was great. Our waitress was very attentive and on point. Also super friendly! The DJ had the place rocking. You won't want to stay seated because he will make you say "That's my song" multiple times throughout the night!!! The crowd was fun!!! I really enjoyed my night! You feel like you're amongst family.

Yelp
High ceilings, lots of wood, great dance floor and a great A/c system. Add the great bar and this place makes a great destination for a night of dancing. Tuesday night was Salsa night. (No clue if this will be a standard as it currently seems every week there is some new group hosting an event.) Around 8-8:30p there was a brief dance lesson. For those that have never danced before you will be equipped with enough knowledge to trot through a song. You keep it up and you'll be doing circles around the room. I took a table to people watch. Super friend folks found their way to be including a few cool bartenders/servers. Those friendly face tells me more about the owners. I loved how one praised their bosses' giving hearts with wanting the place to not solely be a bar but also connecting the community my feeding and clothing the homeless population in the area. The dj played some great music but the set up would be perfect for a live band, he drinks are great and the vibes are nice. I'm a fan!

Yelp
I have fun every time I visit this place! There are two levels of entertainment going on at the same time... One level is Reggae and the other R&B... Both levels are on point! Me & my guest seem to always end up on the R&B level. The different bands & DJ's will make you get up and dance or sing your heart out. The food have been good, although I've only tried the finger foods. The waitresses are very attentive, friendly and on point. The ambiance is a nice vibe. I'll definitely recommend this place and I plan to return again.

Yelp
Service sucked. The servers seemed more interested in hitting the hookahs and drama on the patio. Band was amazing. Food was great.

Yelp
Bamboo Room seems to have changed ownership at least a couple of times since I moved to Lake Worth four years ago. Nowadays, it seems to be open as needed to either host live music or the Recovery Church meetings, depending on the day of the week, and what shows have been booked. The venue is a cool place to watch live music, regardless of the genre you prefer, with a stylish Polynesian look that's spacious to hold plenty of people. Recently, I saw some local SFL bands perform at Bamboo Room, and the acoustics were solid for listening to the music. Being that they are not open consistently, their alcohol selection is limited to put it nicely. On the given night that I attended the show, they had only a few types of beer available, a couple of wines, whiskeys, and vodkas. I ended up having a couple of PBRs for $2 a can, which was a good deal. If you're able to catch a show here though, then that's why you come to Bamboo Room. And it's a cool place to check out live music.

Yelp
I come here often and was surprised about the night I had. We came the day before thanksgiving and a live band was playing who did really good! However the food was not the best as i usually eat the lemon pepper wings. The chicken tenders were decent but they were cold and when asked for sauce was never given to us. Also, we had to get up multiple times to get our waiter as she forgot our orders multiple times. I just ended up ordering from the bar or trying to wait. I will return but maybe it was a bad night . Ps. The dj And vibes is always right here!!

Yelp
Excellent vibe and customer service. I visited with a friend from out of town and it was great! The music, team and vibe was great

Yelp
We were visiting a friend in Boynton Beach and had a great time on the back patio dancing to the reggae band last year. So much so that we decided to rent an Airbnb here for a week to be able to really enjoy Lake Worth Beach. Very down to earth cottage Community, it reminds us of Oak Bluffs in Martha's Vineyard - not snobby, fun, mix of races and LGBTQ friendly.

Yelp
If your looking for a cool spot to have a drink and some live entertainment ~ This is your spot . Went on a Friday night with friends and I love love the atmosphere. The live band and female singer did a Super Fantastic job with keeping the crowd engaged. I will definitely go back

Yelp
Very nice spot! We went one night just expecting a grown and sexy lounge and got more than we bargained for! It was comedy night! After the show the DJ took over and it was a good time! Bottle service, hookah and the BEST service by our hostess Julie and the rest of the wait staff. Even the restroom attendant was happy and very courteous! Definitely recommend

Donna B.

Yelp
First time here celebrating my little sister's birthday!!! Outside patio is nice, security very nice and polite! Food was less than desirable! Shrimp and grits was horrible, the grits was undercooked and super clumpy! Shrimp was hard! My friend had chicken and waffles and the waffles weren't cooked!! Since I was hungry as I couldn't eat the shrimp and grits, I ordered an order of French fries, it took over 33 minutes to arrive "cold"... bathroom was dirty! The DJ was slamming, he knows how to play and transitions nicely! Don't think I will be back!!

Yelp
I just want to take the time and thank the Bamboo Room for Recovery Church on Wednesday nights. Recovery Church is a fellowship of Christ-followers whose desire it is to help each other on their recovery journey. Yelp
The Bamboo Room has reopened under new ownership - which I was very, very excited about over the July 4th weekend. Two friends and I were strolling around downtown Lake Worth after the fireworks display, looking for something to do, and noticed that the Bamboo Room was open for business again. Naturally, I wanted to go inside. Just for a little bit of background - I'm 25 and my other friends are 23 and 21. We all look relatively young, and the youngest happens to be Asian. We all get regularly IDed at bars, which is to be expected. I'd hate to put any of my favorite businesses at risk, and I don't mind the process. The bouncer at the entrance scrutinized our licenses, and after confirming our ages, let us into the bar. We sat down and enjoyed the music for a total of five minutes before an older, wiry guy (perhaps the manager?) rudely told us to come with him. This happened in front of many patrons, and happened before we could even order a drink. We went to the antechamber on the second floor, and he proceeded to question us about our ages. I told him that we had already been IDed and that we were old enough to be in the bar. He summoned over four other bouncers and yelled at the bouncer on the first floor to come up. They surrounded us and forced us to hand over our IDs yet again. They told my 21 year old Asian friend that he "looks like he's twelve" and told us that we look far too young to be at any bar. They insulted us, passed our IDs around, and were incredibly rude. After spending several minutes browbeating us about our ages, the manager told us we could go back inside. I felt so insulted by the entire process that I told him I'd never be back. The original bouncer maintained that he checked our IDs and even remembered our birth years. He was ignored. Overall, I will never be going back to the Bamboo Room. It was quite obvious that my friend was singled out because of his ethnicity and we were all blatantly insulted for our appearances. The entire experience was unprofessional, incredibly rude, and aggressive. Sure, the music is great and the bar is cool as hell - but to insult three patrons for their appearance on July 4th is absolutely unforgivable. If you're not old and white, this isn't the place for you.

Yelp
I have been to this place 5-6 times over the past year. And it's an absolutely fabulous venue for music. The layout is great: Bar, seating area, dance area & stage. The Servers & Bartenders were fabulous: pleasant & efficient. And the booking agent is REALLY GOOD. Awesome acts from around the U.S. & overseas. Def varied. What is really unfortunate is the Mgmt clearly is LACKING with PROMOTING BANDS here which is its biggest issue. THEY ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO ADVERTISE ON THE RADIO, SOCIAL MEDIA & NEWSPAPERS. This club IS JUST OFF THE MAIN DRAG OF LW. I know a TON of people that would come her but 99% of them don't even know it's here & the acts that are playing. It's actually really unfortunate. Because small live music venues that book great quality musicians is HARD TO FIND, ESPECIALLY IN FLORIDA.
google avatar

Darlene L.

Yelp
The Bamboo Room in Lake Worth is THE place for Live Music. Since Reopening in Feb 2011, they have outdone themselves with booking the coolest acts : ) 3 nights of solo JJ Grey, The Legendary JC's, Tinsley Ellis, Jimmy Thackery, music fans can rejoice again! Coming this month Tab Benoit! SOOOOOoo happy the Bamboo Room is back open.... Thank you!!!!!
google avatar

Bret H.

Yelp
We have attended perhaps a dozen concerts here and without exception they have been great. The volume of the music is often way to loud (it actually hurts our ears)which reduces the quality of the music but after a couple beers that is less of a bother. The venue is the best and it is kept very clean. Just about any weekend you can find top notch talent here.

Yelp
Well I appreciate your concern, but you were obviously paying attention long enough to give me respect I deserve so here goes!!!!!!! It isn't the $5.00 at all and my $5.00 didn't help pay the band. It paid the electric and advertising etc.. Please don't try to tell me what I was "Ripped Off" for. If the guy next to me didn't pay, I shouldn't have either!!!!!' Bottom Line!!!!!! As a "Doorman" in ANY club I've ever worked in, I never took a cover if we didn't even fill the seats at the bar. That customer you "Ripped Off" may have come back again and if you are an owner you need returning customers NOT their $5.00. You are not a very bright business person and I suggest everyone wanting to see real entertainment ho to Broghues Down Under Thursday thru Saturday for good bands. I've been going to bands longer than you are old so please don't try to school me please!!!!

Yelp
Visited last night and love the place. Nice atmosphere. Friendly waitstaff and crew. Check it out.

Yelp
The Bamboo Room has a great booker, a very so-so bar, mostly because their bartenders SUCK at making mixed drinks, and zero food, which makes the often hours long waits if you want a table pretty unbearable. I don't really want to drink 2+ hours to see J.J. Grey with no opening act and no food. BORING. I've also been nights when the act's band bailed, and it turned into tragedy. The acoustics are good, could be better, and the sound system is good as well, not awesome. If they served food, even some bar snacks, they get a star back. Fire the baretenders and get someone who can mix drinks and they get the other star back.

Abel's H.

Yelp
As far as I know, this place is no longer open as a Blues or Jazz venue. It's a Church now.

Helmut B.

Yelp
Went to the Bamboo Room to see if it would match up to the classy place I knew from years ago. Did not get very far because they did not honor the free ticket I had printed out on the internet. The lady who was in charge apparently, was quite rude, admitted it was their fault, but still wanted to charge me. Not smart to loose a customer, will not come back. Place looked somewhat run down, as far as I could see.
google avatar

Eddy G.

Yelp
Beautiful venue, the bar is gorgeous! Reason enough to visit Lake Worth. I almost didn't take the drive because for some reason, Google says it's closed on Thursday's!! Luckily, it was opened, Chloe Dolandis was playing, and I will definitely be back with friends.
google avatar

Tarah F.

Yelp
What a gem! Found this place via a Google search for live jazz/blues music. My fiance and I are new to area, and didn't even know of the Bamboo Room's existence. We bought tickets for the Tim Reynolds solo acoustic set on 8/16/13 and had a fantastic time! The venue has such charm, is clean, and smoke-free. The bathrooms were accessible, and maintained well. The music was amazing, especially such a nice intimate setting, and we were able to enjoy from a high-top table near the bar. The drinks are very reasonably priced, but the service was a tad slow. My only suggestion would be the addition of a menu with some food items, but there seems to be lots of places nearby to grab a bite before/after the show.

Sharon A.

Yelp
Awesome bands, BBQ pit outback and specials for 4th of July Grand Opening Weekend!! Bamboo Room is back!!! Yayyy!!

Yelp
Great live music venue in the heart of Downtown Lake Worth. Amazing drinks, music and staff!

Stacey A.

Yelp
I'm devastated that this place closed. Saw spam all-star's here and it was amazing. Hey, bring the bamboo room down to fort Lauderdale.

Sam S.

Yelp
I can't believe I have never written a review for the Bamboo Room as its a wonderful live music club. We were here a couple of weeks ago and it was as great as ever. The live music acts are top notch, often times there is a cover but the price is well worth it. If they don't have a cover the band will still be great. This is a great place for music, some times its hard to carry on a conversation because the focus is on the music and it is loud. The drinks are old school cocktails and while not cheap they are perfection in a glass and the pour is heavy and the portion is high volume. Meaning, yes you pay a bit more for a drink here but its one fine drink. They don't serve food here. I am not a fan of smoking and I know others have posted that it bothers them, all the times I have been there it has never been an issue for me. Most people smoke outside and the high ceilings and strong AC system move the smoke out quickly.

G. B.

Yelp
Closed down. Too bad. Was the place for live blues and classic cocktails. Really miss it. Keep hoping for it to reopen. 01/26/2011 Update. They are scheduled to re-open on February 17, 2011. Word is they will be open with live music Thursday thru Saturday nights.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
We walked in off the street and had a great time. We saw a first class act (Thomas Wynn and the Believers), enjoyed well made drinks, and the service was on the money. The crowd was also a much better level of clientele compared to other neighborhood spots. We will be frequent customers thanks to a great experience!!!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
This is the spot. I came here on a Saturday and the band that was playing was great. The cocktails were a little pricey but definitely worth it. Also, the atmosphere was really unique especially with the bamboo walls. I had a great time and recommend this to anyone else!

Chuck B.

Yelp
My favorite place for live music, hands down! Great employees, great bands, great atmosphere! What more is there?

Jason K.

Yelp
Hey.... I have a good idea. Don't charge over $4 for a bottle of water. This isn't New York or LA or even Ft Lauderdale. Don't forget....its Lake Worth! Still a great room for live music. Bathrooms have unfortunately gone the same way most do in businesses around town. Seems like the sound was not as dialed in as it used to be...maybe not paying for real sound guy anymore????? Place has hosted some really great national and international touring musicians in the past. Seems like they are focusing mostly on local and regional stuff these days. Still worth a visit for fans of live music

Hope It Helps U.

Yelp
They call themselves South Florida's premier destination for live music and cocktails AND they are RIGHT!! This place is awesome! We were there for the first time, two months ago, to see Edgar Winter , (Edgar freakin' Winter up close and personal) and have been back twice since then. The room is beautiful, the sound system is the best we have encountered in So. Florida and the drinks are real, a solid pour mixed to perfection and the staff are very personable and efficient. Some posters complain about them not serving food but there is a really cool diner just downstairs and loads of restaurants within a two block radius. I don't know about you but I would rather not have waitresses in the way serving food I'm there for the music. Can't say enough good things about the Bamboo Room.

Richard M.

Yelp
If i could spend a night out anywhere in south florida it would be at this venue with my wife.

Michael A.

Yelp
Used to be GREAT place for live music. Not so great anymore. The good? National blues acts at least once a month, if only for short sets and sedate, older, crowds. Been 2x since it reopened....really, really wanted to like it. But both times seemed more like a forced, rote "blues revue" for an "old folks" cruise ship. Bumped up the cover and drink prices and jammed more tables to try to make it work this time. But $20 for cramped, sticky tables? Smelly overall and gross bathrooms. No energy at all. Just not what it used to be...btw sketchy area @ night now w/gangsta Propaganda across the street. Park in guarded lot a few blocks east to be safe. I think they will probably walk you to your car if you ask. Funky Biscuit to the south w/ less atmosphere is still a much better overall experience due to friendlier staff and livelier, "under 55 "crowd.

Farah K.

Yelp
First & last visit to the Bamboo Room. After hearing about an Irish folk band playing I went to the Bamboo room on 6/8/13 and was extremely disappointed and disgusted by both the service and the behavior of the patrons. Apparently this place has a practice that says you can reserve your tables all night, but the staff doesn't observe this - so you can get seated, start a tab and then get bullied and kicked out of your seat by rowdy drunk patrons who say they were there first but were outside. The band was great, the little that we heard, but we were forced to leave because of 2 sets of rowdy customers. We were approached to leave two separate tables by two parties claiming we took their seat when they were outside, even though we already had a tab with the waitress. The second party was more confrontational and rude, the husband physically grabbed our table and chairs and moved them himself saying we could find other seats. Having been treated this way by 2 parties really ruined our night and we decided to leave, no sense in being around people who would pick a fight over seats. Upon leaving I told management, but the woman who claimed to be the owner was so intoxicated that it wasn't worth wasting my time on. In the end I'd rather spend my money in an establishment that has more civilized clientele and more professional and respectable management.
