Urban Spa Escapes at New York City Hotels

"Conceived in the English countryside where she owns a large estate, this spa is rooted in holistic treatments such as detoxifying facials using organic products and massages with healing stones. It's an under-the-radar spot that’s a favorite of the cognoscenti." - Shivani Vora

"Tucked inside the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, the Bamford Haybarn Spa is a 5,000-square-foot oasis marked by hand-carved doors and branch shelving. Here, in the nine treatment rooms, Lady Carole Bamford applies her "global wellness" approach to the menu of treatments which range from massages to facials—all of which are guided by Ayurvedic principles and use the brand's in-house line of skin care."

This year I stayed at 1 hotel for my birthday. My big desire was visit spa and treat myself. I did a unique massage called Balanced treatment. I really liked the combination of different techniques and the professionalism of the massage therapist. The massage was incredible and I was very relaxed)))) After the massage, I spent time in the lounge area, with delicious tea and fruits. There was a wonderful atmosphere with relax music and electric fireplace. The entire staff of the spa was very attentive and pleasant. I also tried that day a hammam floatation therapy. Highly recommend if you didn’t try it before. I combined it with Facial LED mask. Definitely recommend this spa for you if you want to get high-quality service and a wonderful experience, especially for celebrate any occasions. Thanks to all the spa staff who helped make this day so special)))) Feeling excited to come back again)

All of the negative reviews of this place are from entitled individuals who have zero respect for service workers and expect everyone to bend over backwards to accommodate them, even when they are obviously in the wrong. This is such a relaxing experience in a lovely part of Brooklyn. The staff are professional and take the time to tailor treatments to your needs. If you are a NORMAL person who understands that arriving to an appointment on time is the bare minimum and you don't fetishize massage therapists, you will have an excellent experience here. :)

Google
Beautiful Spa, but I would say the services aren’t really worth the money. I had some treatments done on a recent visit, and it felt incredibly rushed and mediocre at best. The Spa felt really unorganized as well. Also, while showering after my treatments the handle in the shower broke (see photo) and I was unable to adjust the temperature which was way too hot. Probably won’t be back to this location but the one in South Beach is phenomenal.

Google
Nagia gave me the BEST massage I ever had in my life. The facilities are so clean and lovely. They have everything you need to feel pampered and relaxed. Loved having a place to relax after my massage + using the steam room. Highly recommend Nagia! Her technique is incredible ✨

On a Saturday after Thanksgiving I visited the Bamford with a friend, and while there were some positives, the overall experience fell short of expectations for a luxury establishment. The front desk staff and our masseuse were lovely and professional, but several issues made it hard to justify the premium pricing. The steam room was out of order, which was disappointing for a high-end spa. The presentation throughout the facility needed attention – the fruit and refreshments looked uninviting, and we noticed staff members casually sitting in public areas, which felt unprofessional. Having experienced the Bamford in Miami, the disparity in quality was quite noticeable. While the Brooklyn location might have different standards, the premium pricing suggests a higher level of refinement should be maintained. Though the core services were satisfactory, the overall experience needs significant improvement to match both the price point and the standards set by comparable luxury establishments.

I don’t even know where to start. I had my assistant book couples massages at the spa in the One Hotel, assuming that a place of this caliber would have basic common sense. Apparently, I was wrong. For some reason, they think it’s totally fine to default a woman to a male masseuse unless otherwise specified? First of all, that’s insane. Second, why would I assume I needed to clarify something that should be standard practice? Who in their right mind thinks that’s the move? Now, thanks to this ridiculous policy (or lack thereof), my partner’s birthday gift is completely ruined because we can’t even get a proper couples massage. The whole point was for us to relax together—not for her to sit here doing absolutely nothing while I get a solo treatment. I’d expect better from a luxury spa, but clearly, attention to detail isn’t a priority here. Do better.

Google
so listen up people! you should try facial here with Karina, because this was literally the quickest, most relaxing, sculpting experience in my life. Karina has absolutely magical and soft touch to define every angle of your face plus the experience that Bamford provides… A-MA-ZING! the smell, the texture and speaking of spa space… you just feel that you’re cared of from any angle. please see after facial photo attached to see this face glows after the full work week. highly recommend for your self-care day to pamper yourself up to the gods

Google
Amazing massage. Carl was very skilled and had a great convo ahead of time to understand my goals. Unfortunately, my facial was not good. The extraction was too hard, leaving bruises on my nose, and she used product that left chemical burns on my skin. To be fair, my nose (minus the bruising) reacted well to the treatment, but the rest of my face is red and inflamed with spots that are burned. I've never had a negative reaction like this before with facials or products.

Yelp
I had a great massage here. I really loved Briana's warm, welcoming energy, the care she took to customize the massage to my needs, and her technique. A few notes for the spa to improve the guest experience: - Give keys that have the locker name on them, so the guest doesn't have to remember the locker name or go around trying to unlock every locker until they find the right one. Also, the keys unlock multiple lockers, which is a huge security issue. - The food napkins in the bathroom passed off as hand towels are awful, since when you try to dry your hands with them, they flake up and fall all over the floor. - More hooks in the bathrooms! I had to put my lush robe on the FLOOR of the bathroom, since there was no place to hang it. Also, a shelf for feminine products would be appreciated as well. - Better signage: I almost went into the men's locker room twice. With these simple improvements, could be a 5-star experience.

Yelp
Bamford Spa is part of 1 Hotel Brooklyn. It has a great space, tucked in the bottom floor of the hotel. I came here for a facial and thoroughly enjoyed. Service is solid and the space and ambiance is really nice. My one critique is that the common spaces are co-ed ( where you wait before and after your service), which can feel a bit uncomfortable being in a robe with strangers! Other than that, I'd recommend.

Yelp
Best massage I've had in a while and I'm a frequent flyer. Sophia was great at reception she was thorough, warm and welcoming. Things were timely. Spaces were clean and relaxing. The steam room was out of order-bummer but they offered an add-on for massages of hot stones or a glass of champagne... hot stones duhhh. Mimi was the MVP, an amazing massage therapist. She listened, checked in just the right amount and truly had me thinking about booking the next massage during the massage!! She was very comfortable and knew exactly what she was doing and that put me at ease right away. GO SEE MIMI!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this experience and I should have read more reviews before attending. I was extremely bummed by my service at the Bamford Spa. I've been to a number of hotel spas and wow this was really a let down. I purchased a couples massage as a Christmas present, which was I thought would be a treat for the price tag. Locker rooms are tiny which I guess is expected in NY, but the attendant was aloof and had to wait for showers cleaned and towels restocked. There really weren't any memorable amenities in the locker room or waiting area. The whole experience felt very rushed, despite arriving early to use the showers/steam room. Now onto the massage. I had a male masseuse who asked if we wanted CBD, without mentioning it was an extra charge. Smart guy to get some more $ out of me for the additional service charge. So for $40 extra per person, the entirety of the massage was spent mostly dabbing this CBD all over and omitting any real deep tissue work. It was disappointing to say the least. And even uncomfortable for a few moments when the masseuse would adjust the sheet rather close to my pelvic area. My boyfriend said his massage so I'm glad he enjoyed the present. I won't come back sadly. There are so many more luxe spots!

Yelp
Spent a self-care day at Bamford Wellness Spa at the 1 Hotel in Brooklyn. The hotel itself is absolutely breath taking, the lobby with its grand ceilings and the plants and greenery puts you in a relaxing and calming mood, nice touch. That said, the spa has its own entrance (unbeknownst to me at the time), however, I was able to take the elevator to the ground level where the Spa itself is located. Check-in was seamless due to completing the online forms requested after initially booking (pro-tip) allowing me enough time to orient myself to the space following the attendants walkthrough. You enter the spa through the gift store to purchase goodies, as well as the check-in desk and the men's and woman's locker room entrance at each side of the check-in desk. Upon entering the woman's locker room you're immediately met with a zen like feel, attributed to the color scheme, the wood tones, textures throughout and the lighting. The locker room/changing room itself appears small, maybe no more than 20 lockers. My locker was clean, and so were the amenities placed inside such as my robe. The locker itself can be accessed by a wooden fob matching the wood tones of the spa. As you walk through the locker room, you will past the showers, the restrooms, and upon existing this area there is the unisex steam room (very small and can accommodate both those who are comfortable in the nude and or the use of a towel); I was not a fan of the only steam room being unisex and this being the sole amenity of the spa. Right outside of the exit of the woman's locker room is the men's locker room exit as well. As you continue through the halls there is a sitting area, the treatment rooms, and at the very end of the hallway, another restroom, lounge/sitting area that has amenities such as water, fruit, magazines, assorted nuts, tea etc.,. As for my massage my masseuse grabbed me from one of the sitting areas 5+ minutes into my reservation, no apologies provided nor was the time made up, my massage ceased abruptly at the end of the 50 minutes (Bamford Swedish massage). Otherwise I found the masseuse was attentive and communicative during the massage to establish pain areas, preference in pressure and offered add-ons such as aromatherapy to which I opted out of. The room itself was clean, with enough space for the both of us. Something I noticed was the noises made to open and close cabinets and drawers throughout the massage which was a little distracting. Something they may want to consider is switching to soft close cabinets/drawers and or preparing the use of some of the tools to alleviate the extra sounds, I could also hear people conversing while walking by the door... All in all I enjoyed my experience and would give it another try.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE this spa. Lacey is incredible. She's so friendly and kind, and she is genuinely committed to your skin's journey. I've had two facials so far, and both have been incredible - my skin has greatly improved already! And the products she uses (and recommends) are good quality. I don't know how I lived without this spa!

Cali Z.

Yelp
Not well maintained. Extremely expensive for what it was. Wouldn't recommend as the price didn't translate to a $500+ experience
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful space, only amenity was a steam room. I was given a 300 gift certificate I got the signature massage. Was mediocre at best, unless you like having your skin rubbed for 50 min and no aches or muscles treated . Afterwards my bill was 77.00 for a suggested 22% tip and tax. So I grand total of 377.50 for a not great 50 min massage. I've been to most of the big spas in nyc and cannot recommend this one. I could have spent the day with a friend at world spa or sojo plus a service for the cost.

Yelp
We got a couples massage and Lisa did a great job on me, she customized to my needs for tmj and neck tension. Everything was clean and comfortable.

Yelp
The stuff Bamford gets right, they REALLY get right, but the TLDR is that the excessive cost of their services is heavily misaligned with what is being provided. The good: The space is stunning. The lockers are beautiful, the showers are clean. There are two small very comfortable waiting areas and the massage was heavenly. The not so good: The spa "facilities" are virtually non existent. Short of a small unisex steam room, there are no actual spa baths, pools, saunas so I'm quite confused how the exorbitant prices are justified since before/after the treatment there is nothing else being provided. Not a huge deal but the amenities for use in the locker rooms were tacky plastic bottles labeled with a label machine, but mostly disappointed with how there was no moisturizer of any kind for the face after the shower. They have an extensive product line for purchase but they're careful to have no testers of any of the face creams, moisturizers, or serums :/

Yelp
I am unsure why there are so many bad reviews. My experience was amazing. Maria was fantastic. She listened to my issues and focused on those specific spots. Massage pressure was great and the spa was impeccably clean. The ladies at the front desk were kind and professional.

Yelp
This is my second time at Bamford Spa. The first time, I was gifted with a voucher to celebrate a milestone, and I enjoyed it so much that I paid for a second one almost a year later for a second. (I will admit a huge draw for is that it's located inside the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, and I love both the hotel's signature scent as well as its gorgeous lobby). Bamford is the type of place you go when you really want to treat yourself but you either don't have the time or don't want to go to a day spa. There are no extra amenities beyond your massage/facial treatments except a single steam room and pre-post treatment lounges. When you check in, they give you a robe and slippers (they partnered with sustainable-forward feelgoodz for custom slippers) and let you prepare in the gender-specific locker room. I found the locker room really clean and tidy, though it was a bit understocked (later found out they were missing their attendant that day so they were a bit slow to restock all items). You wait in the lounge before your treatment and I love the tap/hot/sparkling water taps where you can hydrate beforehand. After your treatment, you're led to another lounge where there are fruit, some light snacks, tea, and more water for you to unwind and you can stay however long you want. It's super zen and I really enjoyed the general ambiance but didn't stay for too long since I was there alone. Had I been there with a friend, I think we would've definitely enjoyed a longer wind down. You can shower afterwards and I really enjoyed the Bamford bath products! As this spa is really close to where I live, I will come time and time again for a "treat yourself" massage, but the next time I have more time, I think I'll opt for a day spa instead!

Yelp
I finally find my aesthetician Vera extremely knowledgeable, kind and caring! Always makes the best recommendations! can't be more happier with the work she does! Highly recommended! Professional and super nice, she had literally transformed my skin!

Yelp
Bamford Haybarn is a GORGEOUS spa located downstairs in the 1 Hotel. I bought a Gilt City deal for a de-stress 50 minute couples massage. We both really enjoyed our experience! It wasn't too difficult making a reservation, and they have availabilities later at night (I think 8pm is the latest?) if you work late. We got there about 15 mins early, which I suggest, so you can relax before your service. We were led into the locker rooms and showed around. They provide you with a locker, robe, and towel. No need to bring a comb or hair tie because those are also in the bathroom. There's a steam room and comfy couches with infused water, nuts, dried fruit to enjoy before you get called in. They have you fill out a quick intake form before your massage. Our destress massage started with a foot soak and a choice of oils for the massage. My masseuse was really nice and accommodating, ensuring I was comfortable throughout. The 50 mins went by fast, but it was so relaxing and calming. I loved that they used aromatherapy during the experience. Afterwards, we were led to another room to relax with couches and water. The price here is quite steep, but you're paying for the whole spa experience! I'd recommend for a little splurge.

Conor H.

Yelp
There was a women's empowerment event going on during our visit apparently. The relaxation room was overrun by women conversing and taking flash photos while we were robed and trying to relax. The manager himself took 10 flash photos for some of the guests which rudely included us in the background. The gentleman at the front desk even came into the back to assist w the "photography". While I was changing in the locker room, a man walked through with a large camera on a tripod. I'm sure it was not on, but how tone-deaf to walk through a locker room w a camera. Unacceptable experience. We walked out before our massages.

Marie B.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings. First, the space is really lovely and the vast majority of staff were great, but some of the details that make a place really comfortable were off. The locker I was given didn't have hooks or hangers because they were broken so I asked to switch because I didn't want to lay my clothes on top of my rain soaked shoes. Turns out the key you're given for 'your locker' actually unlocks every other locker too? Yikes. The bathrobe that you use through the whole space was really only suitable for petite people. I'm 5'7 and a straight clothing size, but needed to request a bigger robe because what I was given was probably only workable for up to a size 6/8. It was just weird because...why not provide something comfortable for the vast majority of people? The new one I was given was fine but a different make. I don't get a ton of massages but this sadly felt subpar to me. I didn't fully relax, maybe cause the masseuse was chatty? To me it wasn't worth the charge. The facial I got from Lily was excellent though. I definitely would recommend her. She was kind, thorough, and shared tons of useful information. Sadly I won't be returning.

Yelp
Booked a massage for my husband. He said the massage was ok. Waiting area and showers were clean. For 300 dollars you can find a place that actually cares about the customers. This place along with 1hotel Brooklyn uses the facade of being new and popular as a sorry excuse to treat their customers like they don't matter.

Yelp
The first time I ever came to this spa was for my birthday; from the locker room to the waiting room it was just gorgeous; I loved that they brew you some hot tea while you wait and munch on some fresh fruit. The whole experience with the room was out of this world, the massage table is so comfy, feels like memory foam, the music is so perfect and you get to pick your own scent for the massage oil. I was completely immersed into a different world, I thoroughly enjoyed my massage. From start to finish the experience was just perfect. I recently decided to go back and take my boyfriend there for his birthday as we both enjoyed it so much. I surprised him and was so excited for another experience like the first one. However this time it was much different. Unfortunately there was a group of girls laughing, talking, and just being flat out obnoxious during the entirety of my massage; doors opening and closing, giggling, and they were using outdoor voices. My massage therapist Denvil was AMAZING; he really focused on all the areas that I needed and the pressure was perfect. However it was so hard for me to relax because all I could think about was how badly I wanted these people to shut up. I explained to the front desk how upset I was and the customer service was outstanding, they were apologetic and comp'd my massage as I was unable to enjoy it. Although my experience wasn't like the first, I will definitely be back for another massage due to the excellent customer service that I received and the massage therapist.
google avatar

Bora L.

Yelp
So underwhelming considering how much they charge! Space is beautiful and very clean, and the lady who first escorted me in was lovely. But the service I was purchasing - a massage - was so awful. She couldn't control the pressure, she had no basic customer service like asking how I am or if I would like oil or helping me settle into the massage in anyway, she was slamming cabinet doors and sighing and yawning. I could sense and later saw that she was checking her cell phone while doing my massage. Other therapists may be better but would never return based on inconsistency. I honestly felt like a piece of meat she was massaging.

Yelp
I had an amazing experience! It was my first time visiting Brooklyn and I wanted to give myself a spa day as part of my vacation. The spa was beautiful, staff were friendly! I got the full body sugar polish and it was amazing. After the polish, I was able to take a nice warm shower in the locker room. Everything was clean as well. Prices are steep, but I thought it was worth it. If I visit Brooklyn again, I would definitely come back.

Yelp
By golly I think I found yet another gem in Brooklyn! :-) A friend of mine mentioned Bamford Haybarn Spa about a month ago. Said we should check it out, so I immediately put it on my list of places to visit! Self care and Savings is my theme for 2018, and before starting a new venture, I decided to check out Bamford on Wellness Wednesday! I didn't even know they had a wellness Wednesday, so it appeared the universe opened up for me when I checked the website about a week ago. I needed to get recharged and just overall have a woosah moment, so I called and booked and we were on our way. Malcolm was super pleasant on the phone...EVERYTIME I called, so that's always a good sign. The day arrived and we were all in... We both decided to get 50m De-Stress massage. Malcolm checked us in, and Tiffany, our spa ambassador was pleasant and inviting and gave us a tour of the spa. I was totally impressed with the decor and the aesthetics. Repurposed wood, light and airy, delightful scents to say the least....it felt good just being there. The ladies room had the usual amenities and the color scheme is light and airy, with little touches of greenery. The lockers were light colored wood and identified by essential oils!!! It's really the little things that gets me :-) and makes my heart sing LOL. I chose iris....pretty spacious, all good. Since they are new, they still have some kinks to work out like replacing the slippers. They weren't comfortable. Shower stall was being repaired, however they allowed us to use the men's showers. Their color scheme was darker...dark wood lockers, sinks, etc. The water took a few minutes to get warm, but otherwise no complaints. We were then seated in the the lounge/waiting area where snacks like nuts, and fruits were available, not to mention choices of sparkling, hot, or cold water available to you via the faucets. You'll see in my photos... creativity mannn! On to the service itself-- my therapist was GREAT! Attentive, calming spirit, great vibe all around. I didn't realize the de-stress came with the foot bath, so that was a pleasant surprise. I was then offered the option to choose the essential oil based on scent. I chose Geranium/Peppermint/Lavender....sooooo soothing! She mentioned what'll take place during the treatment and we started. She was firm, checked in, and worked my areas of discomfort. Great session! Oh - the rooms are named accordingly too...not room #1/2 etc...different elements....just lovely. Totally relaxed! Totally satisfied! Totally going back for a longer treatment! After the treatment, I met my friend back at the waiting area and we both just looked like ahhhhhh LOL. Tea was prepared for us and we just sat and really took it all in. My therapist showed us the group room and also the couples room, should we want to bring our Hubbies back or have them bring us back lol either way, we coming back! We sat for another hour or so and enjoyed some good o' girlfriend time. I love times like those. Anyway, you are probably saying time to wrap it up Lyn D...and that I will! Do yourself a favor and check them out! Lovely for a staycation, or even a great way to play hookie from work and get pampered, or just relax from the normal hustle and bustle!

Yelp
My facial today with Nina was wonderful. She was communicative about what she was doing and why she recommended it for my skin, and also talked about future visits and the things we could accomplish. The showers were spotless and the relaxation rooms were the perfect temperature for relaxing in a robe. I left feeling relaxed and my face was glowing. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Dylon W.

Yelp
I had the absolute best facial from RasShahn! She made the entire experience so relaxing and knew exactly what my skin needed to heal. She kindly talked me through the entire process and went above and beyond to ensure that I was comfortable/happy with the results. I left feeling refreshed and renewed! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a luxurious facial experience in Brooklyn.

Deserie P.

Yelp
Looks are deceiving. The place was beautiful The work not so great. I booked an appointment with my Sister for 2 facials. The Bespoke facial. My esthetician Was sooo nice so that why i gave 2 starts but other than that I paid almost 200$ for just a face wash serum and moisturizer. No exfoliation. No steam. No red light therapy. NOTHING. I asked do they do exfoliating she said only for the 80 mins facial???? The cleansing balm or face wash she used inflamed my skin so bad she had a cold rag on my face for 20 mins. I was soo disappointed I would never recommend coming here. I can get a better facial for 100$ at a place that looks arent so good.

Kristen A.

Yelp
I loved my visit to Bamford wellness spa! My partner and I got a couples massage and stayed around to use the spa facilities. Everything was clean, beautiful and organized.

Kate D.

Yelp
Miracle workers. Start to finish, this is a luxury spa experience at it's best. My wife and I are spa people and this just became our favorite spa. Such a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. So many thoughtful details. And worth every penny, especially if you get a massage from Mariah. Selfishly, I almost don't want to post about how talented Mariah is because when word gets out, she is going to be booked solid. She has exceptional anatomical knowledge and meticulous technique. She is an exceptional talent and a lovely person. The treatment was completely tailored to my specific needs. I have sciatica pain and muscle spasms in my leg. Mariah unlocked all those tense muscles, manipulating from my should to my toes to release interconnected tension. I left PAIN FREE for the first time in months. She also gave me helpful tips for how to stretch and care for those muscle groups at home. My wife got a massage at the same time. She has neck and shoulder tension. Her massage was totally specific to her. After a good long lounge in our private relaxation room (with fresh fruit, tea, and infused water), we left blissed out. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Liz R.

Yelp
I had the worst massage at Bamford, it felt like the masseuse was seeking out my bones and avoiding all muscle groups. Way too much repetition and very poor technique.

Molly B.

Yelp
For the money, go anywhere else. Terrible experience start to finish. Never have I felt so unwelcome and stressed out by going to get a simple massage. You have to have a room key to access the elevator so I found myself racing up and down various staircases trying to find my way to the spa since I couldn't just access it from the elevator without finding an escort. Then when I arrived at the spa, they barely let me use a restroom before just rushing me right into the massage room. No locker room or robe to change into / that is not part of the experience at this spa. I didn't think I cared much about changing into a robe, but there is something about doing that allows you to relax. Then my actual massage was not good. Just luck of the draw. Masseuse I had did not know what they were doing. Then boom - ushered right back out to pay without even a chance to drink the little cup of water they handed me. If you're a hotel guest it's fine, but otherwise def choose a different place if you're looking for a luxurious and relaxing massage. This has that kinda price tag but it ain't it!
google avatar

Amber A.

Yelp
While the spa services are well done, Bamford Haybarn has much to be desired at their front desk. I booked a package for my boyfriend to celebrate his promotion at work. I went so far as to book over the phone, and spent the call emphasizing that it was a gift to the receptionist. I got an email with the date and time and a follow up a few days before the treatment where the same receptionist recounted that the treatment was a gift. Fast forward to the day of and after my boyfriend's treatments management comes around asking him to pay up. The level of unprofessionalism is inexcusable and carried on when I called to inquire why they charged him when I left my card details, etc. The lack of care and service from front desk and refusal to accept that they had acted poorly overshadowed what otherwise seems like a positive experience in the small Brooklyn spa scene.
google avatar

Stephanie F.

Yelp
Amazing experience highly recommend! I did the bespoke facial with Nina and my skin has never looked better. She also gave an amazing massage throughout the facial!

Geri A.

Yelp
Bamford Spa's on-line booking system system did not work so I repeatedly called and emailed and left messages to book Spa services during an upcoming stay at 1 Hotel. After getting absolutely no response I even called 1 Hotels front desk thinking the Spa might be closed due to Covid or renovations or a pipe bursting. The person at the Front desk could not get through either. The Spa finally emailed me offering a service at a time I specifically said I was not available in email and VM. I emailed back saying I was posting a negative review they promptly got back and offered the same service at a discounted price. If they are understaffed they should consider paying more for the unfilled jobs so they can offer customer care commensurate with their prices.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience! I came here for a facial and was very impressed by the facilities, the front desk, and the person who did my facial. Peter was so helpful, not judgmental of my damaged skin and walked me through many ways to care for my skin. It was a relaxing experience that left my skin glowing. I would consider this a bit of a financial splurge for my personal routine but well worth it. I will definitely be back and will definitely request to see Peter.

Yelp
My mum and I came here as a part of our staycation. This place is totally awesome and well worth its cost. The staff where welcoming and the facilities where well kept and top notch. The aesthetics were really on point as well, like something that would be featured in Gwyneth Paltrow's magazine. We signed up for the50-minutee relaxingmessagese and relaxed where we! Definetly recomend.

Yelp
I'm writing to tell about my experience at the spa. I'm writing here as I have tried to contact the spa but have not received a response. I had booked a couple's massage to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday. She has been wanting to try the spa for a long time. As Brooklyn locals, we stay at the hotel from time to time for a close getaway and have always enjoyed the experience. Our experience at the spa was very disappointing. When we got there we learned that the steam room wasn't available, and hadn't been for a long time. We were disappointed but still looked forward to our services. We decided to take a shower and not only was there hair in the shower but the drain was also broken. It did not feel clean. When we got out, both of our towels ripped to shreds, so much so that we couldn't use them. Like why would you even have such cheap towels in a place like this? We asked for new ones, but then noticed that one robe was significantly nicer than the other. We asked that we both get the nice robes which felt like a small thing but still an annoyance for a place that prides itself on being a place of luxury and relaxation. The attention to detail was just severely lacking and definitely took away from the entire experience. Finally, it was time for our massages. While both masseuses were friendly, the massages left much to be desired. They asked us which oil scent we wanted, which made it seem like that would be the scent they were using in the massage. However, we were disappointed to discover that none of the scented oil was used in the massage. That would have been fine if we were told that, however it was insinuated that the scent we chose would be used on our body. As for the massage itself, as a fitness professional, I have experience with many massage therapists and to be honest, I questioned whether they had much experience. When we exited the massage we were lead to a relaxation room where there were dirty glasses on the tables and an eaten fruit core left in the sink. It just felt gross. These things, while small, definitely took away from the overall experience. Finally, when we were changing to leave we could hear the staff at the front desk, and it was quite loud and rowdy. It just didn't feel professional or relaxing. We also heard an entire conversation in which a man complained about the flushing the toilet and it spraying up on him. This definitely did not add to the peaceful experience we were hoping to have. Needless to say, we were very disappointed with our experience especially because this was a very special occasion and it was such a let down. Even more disappointing is that despite writing to spa and hotel about our experience three weeks ago, is that I have yet to receive any response. Save your money. Go to D'mai in Park Slope instead.

Yelp
Went for my birthday. Used the first time customer "neighbor" discount for my 80 min massage. I've only gotten a massage one other time years ago at the empire hotel (horrid experience, now closed). I was a little apprehensive but I was proven wrong. From the minute I stepped into hotel 1 to the second I stepped into the spa I was thoroughly impressed. My only compliant is that the sauna was out of order. The main reason for my visit was the sauna.

Yelp
The hotel and spa are absolutely gorgeous. The facility is amazing. It stops there. We received this gift from a friend and hoped for a great relaxing experience only to be treated rudely as soon as we entered. You would expect to be greeted politely at the very least. It created tension at first arrival. There was absolutely no instruction or explanation of the facility. Robe, locker room. That's it. Should I shower? Does it take time from my massage? How do you lock the locker? Where should I go? Nothing. Finally, the massage was shortened and only for the time remaining. The massage was honestly the worst massage I have ever had. Cold, clammy, awful. When I mentioned it was too much pressure, it turned into a 30min back rub. Then you go and pay nearly $200 for it. Just awful. One star for the facilities.

Yelp
I can not say enough about the Bamford Haybarn Spa. I went for a prenatal massage, a gift from my girlfriends, and got a thoroughly relaxing, wonderfully thoughtful and intuitive massage from Amiko. She was lovely and so skilled. Also, the place is gorgeous. Simple. Elegant. Luxurious without a hint of gaudy. A really special spa in Brooklyn that is a gift to this neighborhood. I will be back and will suggest this to all partners of pregnant women. It was perfect.

Yelp
So so so disappointing. My fiancé took me here as a birthday present. The spa itself was beautiful and the staff was kind. I enjoyed my massage. However, upon leaving, my fiancé had multiple red bumps on his shoulder and arm. What we originally thought could have been irritation from the massage quickly became large, itchy, swollen bites. As soon as we were sure that these were indeed bug bites that couldnt have come from anywhere else, we brought this to the attention of the spa. Instead of asking any follow up questions or working with us to alleviate our concerns, we were completely dismissed, and treated as if we were lying or too stupid to know the what bug bites look like. We weren't accusing them of bedbugs necessarily, it easily could have been from spiders or a myriad of other things, but after leaving their establishment, my fiancé was truly covered in bug bites. They had to have come either from the free (possibly unwashed?) robes given to us or in the massage bed/bedding. So gross. It completely ruined what was supposed to be a lovely experience for the both of us. At just over $400 for a luxury 50 minute massage (which is pretty steep, even for Manhattan), you would think the customer service would be much, much better. We weren't offered an apology, let alone a refund / voucher. Instead, we were "assured" that they conducted an exam of the rooms which seemed fine to them. The woman who responded only offered to be a personal point of contact for us the next time we book an appointment. Absolutely absurd and insulting! We will not be back. There are plenty of other spas in the greater area where we can get a luxurious massage in a CLEAN environment, and not make us feel stupid for reporting an issue and ask that they take steps to fix this. Neither I nor my fiancé will ever return. Companies have to stand by the quality of the products and services that they offer. Have they never head of the customer is always right? Seriously demeaning and disappointing experience. Would not recommend.

Yelp
It was amazing. From entering the hotel to heading down the elevator to arrive at the spa. The service was impeccable. Kasey was my esthetician and she was great. She took the time to give me skin tips of the trade and really gives one heck of a facial. The ambiance, the robe, the key fob, the flip flops, I can go on and on!! Loved it all :)

Yelp
Beautiful spa inside of the Hotel. Minimalist decor. Very clean however small space. I came for a massage. It was nothing out of the ordinary however the ambience more than makes up for it. Wished they had a pool as well. I liked that there was a place to have refreshments as well as relax post massage. Overall great place to go to unwind a bit.

Yelp
I received the bespoke facial and had Casey as my aesthetician. She was a little heavy-handed for my liking, her personality was a bit cold for customer service, she lacked some finesse when applying product on my face (so it would end up in my mouth if I didn't purse my lips) and I ended leaving her treatment room with white smears on my face because she didn't blend it uniformly. Why two stars instead of 1 or 0 if that was possible? Every other employee met the standard of an upscale spa. Hospitable, kind, friendly and accommodating. The space was also beautiful. Would I recommend going to this spa? A cautionary yes. Just don't book an appointment with Casey.

Yelp
I've had my eye on this spa for a while (since moving to BK earlier this year) but the price tag was holding me back. Lo and behold - Gilt City to the rescue. I did the de-stress massage and it was an AMAZING experience from beginning (booking with Malcolm) to end. It is actually worth the original price tag - that is how good it was. The spa is lovely, the staff is amazing and the amenities are all new and squeaky clean. My therapist, Mariko, was absolutely a godsend, and took the time after to give me some advice (none of which was a hard sell on Bamford, though I have already booked another appt hah). If you are looking to treat yourself and get an experience that lives up to the hype / $$, this is your spot!

Yelp
Best way to treat yourself and others. It was my boyfriend birthday and I wanted to start our day with a spa day, and we sure did. Loved the eco vibe of the lobby, very welcoming. Going into the spa my zen kicked right in. The smell was soothing and the staff were very friendly. I love the little touches they had like your locker key. We got a couple de-stress massages and it was well worth it. Well defiantly come back again and enjoy a stay at the hotel.

Yelp
Low key, high end spa that delivers the goods. Took my wife for the signature couples treatment one afternoon. The experience was perfect. The check in experience was easy, the bathroom was amazing and they really try to figure out which type of massage would best help you. The massage was wonderful starting with a foot massage and included some hot stone treatments and aromatherapy. My wife fell asleep and we both enjoyed the treatment immensely. The price of the experience was not cheap but we has such an enjoyable time and both agreed it was worth it.

Yelp
I travelled now for 12 months and tried a lot of spas all around the world (also asia). This was really one of the best. It was very relaxing, perfect pressure, very modern, stylish and cozy. Couldn't wish for more! Would love to come back next time when I'm in New York.

Yelp
I enjoyed the awaken resurfacing facial. The whole experience exceeded my expectations. The facility is beautiful, but it was the staff who really made it special. This place is a gem. I would highly recommend it.

Yelp
My fiancé bought me a very generous gift certificate to Bamford for my birthday. I was delighted to make good use of his kindness after a particularly long week. Upon arrival, I was shown the locker room and lounge space. Unfortunately, the locker room was a bit of a mess with lockers containing dirty robes and items seemingly misplaced. One of the showers was entirely out of order. Finally, I was shown a properly stocked locker. I changed and made my way to the waiting room. In the otherwise peaceful waiting room I was met by another client talking loudly on her cell phone. Not relaxing, to say the least. I have to admit the massage was a dream. However my facial was a bit of a disaster. I felt pressured in to extractions, which left my face a mess for days after, triggering breakouts where I never have them. Not only was my aesthetician a bit pushy and heavy-handed, she tried to extract what I told her was a mole. I had to ask her to stop!! Overall, I was underwhelmed by the Bamford experience. I'd go so far as to say I was full on upset. I would not recommend Bamford to my friends for facials nor do I plan to return. Perhaps my experience is an exception but it certainly was not a good one.
