5 Meals For A Fiver: Finsbury Park

"Your order: Bariis iskukaris with chopped meat and soup (£5) A plate of bariis iskukaris at Zamzam - a Somali vegetable rice dish packed with sweet peppers, spiced potatoes, soft peas, a handful of raisins, and other bits that taste like they’ve been bathing in a wonderful tub of chicken stock, turmeric, cinnamon, and cumin (among other things) - is one of the best things you can eat around Finsbury Park. It comes with a pile of caramelised chopped beef and goat and, for £5, you can get a tasty potato and carrot soup too." - jake missing

London’s Best East African Restaurants: Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Somali | Eater London

"The menu, or literal lack thereof at this Seven Sisters restaurant is similar to other Somali dining experiences in the city, with the meals of the day reeled off to punters. Expect some combination of fragrant rice and tough red meat such as beef; for anyone hoping to date in private, a draping of curtains with the ability to conceal a group makes for a hilarious occasion." - Riaz Phillips

I recently had the pleasure of joining a Somali colleague for a meal at Banadiri Restaurant on our way to an assessment. We tried the Sughaar with Haneed, and it was absolutely delicious—highly recommended! As a Pakistani at a Somali restaurant, I felt incredibly welcomed. The hospitality was truly outstanding

Amazing atmosphere, everyone is lovely and inclusive with great portion sizes and amazing flavours! The soup you are given to drink is delicious and helps wash down the meal. The best part was the people inside with fun conversations getting us involved. We will definitely be back!

Went there to try something different. Very welcoming, even the customers, they recognise you're not from Somalia region. Very community oriented, felt comfortable and enjoyed the home cooked meal. Definitely off the beaten track and a great gem.

Nice food but dine-in is not suitable for girls. If anyone wish to go there; it’s better to go 2 or 3 together. I have orders Somalian sokar. It is kind of roasted beef with rice, banana and vegetable soup. As I like spicy food so it taste better to ask chilli sauce along. I did take away and have this with salad that I made at home.

Will always be my favourite somali resturant! If you want food that taste like your hoyoo (Mum) has cooked it then, this is the place for you. The service is top notch and the staff are polite and very friendly. Wish I can give more than 5 stars!

Nice Somali food, good prices and tasty food, still cheapest in London compared to other boroughs
