"The second location of this U Street taco shop recently landed in Tenleytown. Bandit has tacos, bowls, quesadillas, and burritos filled with classic Mexican proteins (carne asada, al pastor) and Asian fusion items like bulgogi beef, adobo chicken, and tofu. — Gabe Hiatt" - Lisa Ruland

Google
I really want to like this place. The people are SO nice. I’ve been here five times. The burritos are 40% plain white rice. This time I specifically asked for light rice. I got a very lightly filled burrito with 40% white rice (see first pic). It’s frustrating when I’m hungry. I stopped buying steak burritos bc I was tired of paying for nonexistent steak (See second pic).

Google
One of the better hole-in-the-wall taco places in upper NW DC, great selection of authentic Mexican favorites and all are tasty. Best to carry out, no real seating. Fast service and well priced. Legit worth a try!

Jake Sandler

Google
The most incredible breakfast taco, hands down. They have a few you can choose. I got one with this hollandaise type sauce. My lord. So good!!! Great service and great people, too! Enjoy!!!

Google
It's good, I enjoyed my burrito as well as the chips and salsa. Just like every other Mexican place I've found on this side of the country, I can't tell much of a difference. Notably, the employees seemed very uninvolved at this location, not much care towards customers. With that being said, the food is good, and it's not terribly expensive considering the location.

Google
The food is excellent. Anything you get is really good and fresh. I tried the burrito chicken Tinga and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken is very nice and moist. The burrito is pretty big. Chips and guacamole is also very good. Definitely recommended.

Google
I was recommend Bandit Taco by a few different locals, and decided to check it out. Tried the adobe chicken bowl but with no beans and no lettuce. Replaced with extra rice, corn, and pineapple. Even with the 50 cent upcharge for the ex products, the price was fantastic. Only about $12. The flavor and amount of food you get is also such a deal. I'd recommend Bandit over Chipotle or Qdoba any day

Google
Went for the first time today for taco Tuesday. I got 2 chorizo tacos and 2 chicken and an order of the yuca fries. I liked the chicken more than the chorizo but could just be my personal preference. The yuca fries came with 7 fries and decent size for the amount and the sauce was good. I will say the taco Tuesday deal was good but for the portion and price $2.50 a taco. The lady who answered the phone had good customer service and when I arrived it was kinda of busy but they had my order ready for me. I gave 4 stars because my tacos were lacking some green they had a lot of radish but not a lick of cilantro.

Christopher Yandell

Google
Definitely the best tacos in the area. I enjoyed the barbacoa and chorizo tacos. The restaurant itself has great decorations and music, but it is very small. There is a generous amount of space outside, though. But during the winter I wouldn’t want to sit there!

Yelp
no idea how this place got 4 1/2 stars. Those were possibly the worst nachos I have ever eaten, or not eaten as the case maybe. They were swimming in a pool of grease at the bottom. The cheese was fake nacho cheese sauce. there were no beans. There was no guacamole. Apparently all that is extra. ew! I just didn't even think to ask if the cheese on the nachos was actually cheese.

Yelp
Perfect fast, casual dining spot with some great food! There's a lot of outdoor seating (a few barstool seats inside), but street parking in front of the stair can get tricky. If you make a right turn next to Bandit Taco, you'll find a decent amount of street parking by the park. The menu selection between burritos, bowls, tacos, and quesadillas was massive with a good variation of types. The price of burritos and bowls was so cheap! SERVICE: 5/5 - Truly fast food!! My order came out within 5 minutes of ordering! Nothing bad to say about them. The restaurant itself was super clean and stocked up with utensils and napkins. A lot of it was self-service. FOOD: - Al Pastor Burrito: 5/5 - This burrito was AMAZING! It was packed with meat and a fair amount of pineapples. It was flavored and seasoned well and the salsa it came with definitely added more flavor to it. Priced reasonably for a burrito that size. - Skirt Steak Taco: 4/5 - Good amount of meat with toppings like red cabbage, scallions, and cilantro. Overall, the taste was there, but I found the meat to be a little over-cooked. - Baja Fish Bowl: 3/5 - I wanted to like this a little be more, but I thought the amount of fish was on the smaller side. Lots of lettuce and tomatoes! I found the overall taste of the bowl to be a little bland. Remember to add in your salsas!! Great taco place to visit in Tenleytown!!

Yelp
Bandit Taco came up as one of the best new restaurants under $25 and it was clear to see why. Bandit is a like a better, tastier, less expensive, and independent Chipotle. They have bowl options, taco options, and burritos with a range of meat options, Mexican sodas and fresh lemonade, hibiscus juice, and horchata. 3 of us were able to eat and be full for under $50. The staff was friendly and they have a nice outdoor patio (albeit only about 4 tables) if you plan to eat there. If there was one drawback, it was that they did not serve alcohol (a beer would have really hit the spot with our meal).

Yelp
Taco Tuesdays is a great deal here, with each taco being $2.50. In general, the tacos here aren't that cheap, with each one running near or around $4, and when you're needing 3 or 4 tacos to be filled up (depending on how hungry you are), it does add up. Although the top sellers (and their best offerings) are not often in the Taco Tuesday list - the shrimp taco and the Baja fish taco. The tacos here are more true to the Mexican-style tacos, as compared to the more American-style taco that is offered across the street at District Taco. All of the fillings were served on top of two small corn tortillas and were loaded with the typical Mexican toppings of cilantro and onions. I tried four tacos: tofu, mushroom, carnitas, and adobe chicken. Of these, the tofu one surprised me, being my favorite since it was light enough for me to taste all of the other ingredients in the taco and it was refreshing. The adobe chicken might be my second favorite of the four, only because it was well seasoned. The mushroom was okay. The carnitas was too chunky and wasn't as well seasoned, possibly due to the thickness of the pieces. I'll be back to try out the shrimp and fish tacos, and possibly to get more tofu tacos.

Yelp
Soooo good! My new spot! The sauce says the pickled cabbage the fresh herbs delicious. I would avoid the black beans.

Imran G.

Yelp
It's good food meat quality is good, staff was nice and helpful. Sauce was good to. The service was great. The reason why I give it a 4.5 is because we sat outside and there are to many bugs and the space is tiny.

Julian P.

Yelp
Decided to drop in for a quick bite after a short flight from San Diego and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered two tacos. Al pastor & carnitas accompanied by a tasty horchata. Visually I was a bit taken back by the al pastor taco because I have never seen it as shredded pork. It was actually delicious. The carnitas was good but probably not something I'd order again. The portion sizes could've been a bit more generous considering the tacos will set you back $4.50 a pop. Definitely recommend trying the Al Pastor here. It was packed with tons of flavor on a nice corn tortilla. Update: got the al pastor burrito. Delicious. ---》

Yelp
Hey! I love the burritos here and sadly my delivery order with a certain dominant service was canceled with vague details. My wife was also looking forward to a couple tacos. This order was placed at about 7 on a Thursday. How can we as customers make sure we get what we would like while making your lives easy? Thanks!

Marc W.

Yelp
Wow, the torta was the best I've ever had. The food was actually incredible all around. They put care and attention into everything they do, and it shows. Would definitely recommend.

Yoho S.

Yelp
Best place to have Mexican food around this neighborhood. Lovely staff with a great clean environment.

Audra H.

Yelp
I think we found our new fav taco spot for delivery! This was our first time trying Bandit Taco and it did not disappoint! We ordered the chorizo nachos, chorizo taco, al pastor taco, crispy shrimp taco and lastly a Korean beef taco! I honestly can't think of one negative thing to say. I definitely think they can go easy on the green onions but that's a personal preference! Everything was so flavorful and delicious! I will warn you the chorizo has some KICK! But it's the type of kick I love! If you are in the area and want some delicious tacos, definitely try out Bandit Taco! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon in April. I was greeted promptly and the ordering process was swift and easy. I ordered an Al Pastor, a Baja Fish (they were out of shrimp :-/), and the chips and queso. The tacos were good, though a little overpriced IMHO. The queso was a bit off though. It kind of tasted like canned cheese. Overall my experience wasn't bad, but I think District Taco across the street is a better value and better quality.

Mary V.

Yelp
The burritos are amazing! Delicious and spicy and plenty of choices on the menu. The food is authentic Mexican. Quick service and delivery is always faster than expected.

Emily T.

Yelp
It's one of our favorite places to go for take out. The staff is always nice. The yuca frita is so good. We've tried all the tacos, my favorites are the fish and al pastor! I enjoy the flan for dessert when they have it.

Bryan A.

Yelp
Came for Taco Tuesday, they have affordable tacos on Tuesdays with a limited selection for the special. Tacos were okay, didn't really have much flavor to be honest. I had the chicken and pork. Ordered the chicken tinga burrito and it was delicious. I would def. come back for the burrito. The spot is great and location where you can walk to. I really like the patio area as well. Service was great, fast, and the staff were great!

Debra B.

Yelp
Delicious. Chicken tikka tacos, Al pastor with pineapple, and quesadilla with steak. It was my first time and I will be back. My niece goes to America university and really liked the quesadilla enough to save some for home. She said it was larger than she expected. There's some inside bar style sitting and outside tables. We sat for a bit and chatted before heading off.

Olivia W.

Yelp
Love this taco spot! The chips and guacamole have a little quick to it but overall I would definitely come back here again.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Tacos and food are excellent. Problem is if you order takeout they skimp on the salsa and never follow directions. It's happened numerous times. Double check the order. I shouldn't order $70 worth of food and measly 2 tiny sides of salsa when we requested on the side for all entrees. Called to complain and they were nice but instead of doing something about it they said to call next time I order. I'm sorry but it's a pet peeve.

Yelp
I had the displeasure of visiting this place on U Street. I order my food and once I received it. I did not like the way it looked, and the way it was prepared. So I ask to speak with a Manager. I was appalled at the way Ricardo, the Manager spoke with me. He was rude, aggressive, and very unprofessional when speaking to me. I will never go to the place again for two reasons, one the way my food looked when I received it, and two, Ricardo. He needs to be removed from his position at Bandit Tacos as soon as possible. He does this establishment a disservice.

Bars E.

Yelp
Amazing food and service, the chips and guacamole were top tier and tacos were very authentic.

Stacy A.

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for a good taco, and was excited to try Bandit Taco which was new to me. Sadly the flavor did t deliver... I like the fresh cilantro and radish on top but the meat was largely bland. I'm also used to getting salsa verde and other sauces at taco spots but we didn't get anything with our taco order. Don't think we will be back.

Anne T.

Yelp
I believe a little over-rated. Had 2 Baja Fish Tacos (Tiny) and a shrimp bowl (also small) . All was really quite blah and cold. Great dog-friendly patio though.........................

Nila V.

Yelp
The only taco place that comes close to what I called a taco in California! The crispy shrimp taco is amazing, not the biggest fan of the chicken tacos though.

Stacey G.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! My favorite tacos in the city! I love the Baja fish tacos, nothing better. They deliver on freshness and flavor every time. The tofu tacos are good as well. I don't love the mushroom tacos as much, a little dry and lacking in flavor. The sweet plantains are also delicious!!! This is my go to taco place. I recommend ordering 4-5 tacos for dinner.

Patrick O.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Enjoyed sitting outside with wonderful tasty tacos. we would definitely stop here again!

Daniel G.

Yelp
Awesome tacos. They have a wide assortment of tacos. Many kinds. My favorite is the adobe chicken taco. The Korean BBQ taco is also great.

Kathryn L.

Yelp
One & done visit for me. The concept of fast casual Tacos is understandable, yet somewhere it should be noted that the Tacos are actually mini Tacos aka bites. Even for their Taco Tuesdays for $2 still isn't a deal, as other places offer full size Tacos for two bucks. Unfortunately, the Tacos didn't move me or my WomanBaby, as the your choice of protein is dolloped upon two mini Tortillas. You literally have to eat the entire Taco at once to avoid it from falling apart or making a mess. The prices are steep for minimal amounts of Chips, Salsa & Guacamole. The very small side of Guac was $6. For someone as myself who likes a Sangria with their Mexican Food, I was surprised that Bandit Taco doesn't offer Sangrias or any sorts of alcohol beverages. I gave an extra star for the colorful, enclosed patio & well-kept Restroom that offers a big crate of Toilet Tissue for easy access. As we were getting ready to leave, I bussed our table & couldn't get inside as they locked the door. No one came outside to let us know that they were closing, which seemed a little odd. Nonetheless, I handed the guy our throw away items & we were on our way. If I get the urge for Mexican food again while in the Tenleytown area, Bandit won't be the destination. There's a District Taco across street & Guapo's 2 blocks up...where we went next.

E B.

Yelp
The food is amazing! Cannot say enough positive things about this place. Great fish, shrimp, & barbacoa tacos. The guacamole was excellent. Chips were fresh and wonderful. Prices are reasonable. Staff was efficient and friendly! Run don't walk to bandit tacos.

Yelp
My always go-to place in dc! Bandit taco has saved me during this pandemic era. Their tacos, salsas, and street corn are simply amazing!!! I always order shrimp and fish tacos (because they're fabulous), and their beef tacos are amazing too. Quesadillas are amazing as well, and they taste as if they come out fresh from a restaurant if you reheat in the air fryer.

Yelp
This is a brand new Bandit Taco place - opened just a couple of months ago. Found it on Yelp while looking for a lunch spot between Tenley and Bethesda. It's got a tiny front tucked away between a jujitsu studio and a barber shop so not the most noticeable even with bright colors. Some seating inside - two wall/window counters plus a small table - more on the little colorful patio with railings come warmer weather. Not too busy on a weekday so almost no one eating in, just the occasional customer picking up takeout orders. We tried 3 tacos, fish, shrimp and wild mushroom. They are quite small, as some Yelp reviews noted, so from that standpoint not inexpensive - the pricing similar to mid range restaurants with waiter service. They come on an aluminum tray lined with red/white checker patterned paper, open faced each with double tortillas. Quite tasty, the fish and shrimp have similar ingredients, both good, but the mushroom one is outstanding. Also had a skirt steak burrito, very tasty as well, in terms of portions it would give you more bulk for the money, big enough for two to share, you'd more likely get full on the one $9 burrito than the 3 tacos totaling $12.50. Friendly service and cute ambience (with loud energetic music). $2 tacos on Tuesdays although not sure if for all flavors.

Henderson C.

Yelp
Staff is rude and the food is less than mediocre. Plenty of better places to eat, don't give these people your money.

Casei H.

Yelp
9/10 Amazing. Mexican street corn xxxxxxlent ( ate to fast, didn't get a picture )needs to be a little mire heat. Fish tacos Best I've ever had!

Annalisa M.

Yelp
Ordered delivery on UberEats! I saw a deal for free delivery on UberEats and decided to try out this taco spot. Believe it or not, but this place originally came on my radar after watching a D.C. eats TikTok recommendation. After scrolling through the menu, I decided on a korean beef taco, a fried shrimp taco, and a fish taco. My partner ordered a mushroom taco and two tofu tacos. Each set came in separate containers with two limes and two different salsas (red and green). The package was stapled and came with an abundant stack of napkins after 40-60 minute delivery. As far as the food goes, I was a bit disappointed by the korean beef taco, mainly because the taco didn't come with any sauce and the meat wasn't all that juicy. I decided to supplement the lack of sauce with the salsa verde, which was a great combo. Other than that, the fried shrimp and fish tacos were full of sauce and had great flavors. I particularly enjoyed all the fresh veggies (radishes, green onion) chopped up on top. The flavor was really fresh and helped with the fact that the fish lost its crunch due to the shared delivery (waited about 60 minutes). I ended up repurposing the limes in a margarita, so no complaints here. Ultimately, decided on 4 stars because the tacos were good but nothing over-the-top. Would recommend ordering here for a quick bite mid-day.

BJ B.

Yelp
This place serves the best tacos in the DC metro area. We had the carne Asada (steak) Carnitas (roasted pork) Al Pastor (pork & pineapple) Crispy And Mexican street corn. Delicioso

Lauren S.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here 3 times: I always get the crispy shrimp tacos (topped with pickled cabbage, lemon saki and garnished with cilantro and scallions). Absolutely delicious! My friend ordered a skirt steak bowl that he gives an "8.5/10". I would definitely keep ordering from here. It's flavorful and authentic!

Elliott P.

Yelp
Situated in an area with four Mexican restaurants within two blocks, Bandit Taco has plenty of competition to beat. Luckily for them, they do so quite handily by offering a plethora of unique, outside-the-box tacos ready to be customized and prepared just to your liking. I ordered the Tofu Taco, which boasted the zesty flavors of citrus, poblano, and salsa piled high atop the guacamole and cheese I added. Though not spicy in the least, it was a messy and delectable love letter to Tex-Mex cuisine. The prices here are pretty darn low, especially compared to other establishments nearby. My meal was all of six dollars. What's more, Bandit accepts AU Eagle Bucks when placing an order through GrubHub. Service is exceptionally quick; my pickup order was ready a full 40 minutes early! I had a fabulous experience at Bandit Taco, recommend it to all, and will most certainly return.

Ebony P.

Yelp
The manager was rude!!!! Forgot to give me the guacamole I paid for and said I didn't pay for it after checking her register, pure lies. I had a receipt as proof! DON'T GO HERE!!!

Una D.

Yelp
Came here with a friend after a workout. It was in the area and a new thing that we both wanted to try. I ended up getting the street corn and two tacos, one was mushroom and the other one was pork. I never tried a mushroom taco before so the novelty of it appealed to me. I didn't find any of the food particularly horrible but I didn't find it very tasty or memorable either. What I did like where the sauce is that came with the food especially the red one was quite spicy and I used it the next day to mix with my scrambled eggs and breakfast. My friend had a bowl and she found a piece of plastic in her meal which she subsequently spit out. A service is at the counter where you order and pay. The indoors is limited seating and not comfortable. They do have outdoor seating on the sidewalk if you're interested in that. Didn't go into the bathroom so I don't know what that's like. They offer a variety of Mexican sodas and they also have dessert. Price is okay but I think it's a little bit much considering the quality of the food. If I was in the area and had a hankering for this type of food I might come back.

Adriana M.

Yelp
If you're looking for good Mexican food - Bandit Taco is devastatingly close but just off the mark. I ordered the adobada burrito with extra pineapple. Pork was underwhelming but tender. Pineapple chunks were hard and at times inedible - as if taken from the center of the pineapple. Green salsa was a good addition to the burrito and added some of the flavor I felt was missing. I also ordered the tres leche cake and it tasted freezer burnt. I was only able to eat about 1/3 of it.

Nick B.

Yelp
Quick & delicious take out taco joint. You might be able to eat-in, but I've only gotten take out or delivery. Also has vegetarian options and a delicious shrimp burrito.

Cami P.

Yelp
Dc has there fair share of terrible tacos/ Mexican food, bandit taco is truly an exception. I love their tacos and am impressed by their guacamole. I am from Texas, I am a very harsh critique & I eat here often :) I like their adobo chicken& Korean beef the most! I got a burrito bowl here the other day, the only thing I would change is to ask for it without tomato's/ half the lettuce. They even have a Tuesday student discount! & taco Tuesday for $2 tacos :)

Jimmy C.

Yelp
I haven't found good tacos in dc in a long time and this place definitely made in impression. I've tried them all and the sides nothing to complain about. Burritos nachos all of it is good, street corn and the best thing is the horchata! Follow : @fatboyzeat on IG FOR MORE!

Cornelia G.

Yelp
This place use to put sauce for your taco I'm your box. I haven't been in a while ordered 3 tacos, got home, no sauce. They were so DRY...I spent $20 dollars. When I called back the rep said they no longer give sauce you have to ask for it. Well...if it is takeout....I would assume you would ask the customer would they like sauce. The rep apologized...I guess that was sufficient, however, I don't live close and thought they would be a good place to get tacos in the area.

Aysia F.

Yelp
I found myself working from home and in need of lunch..I got a notification about Bandit Taco opening up in my area recently but didn't think anything of it right away. I open up my Uber Eats and the first thing I see is Bandit Taco and thought why not?!? The delivery was super fast (like 20 minutes!) so definitely take that into consideration if you don't feel like going out. For food, I ordered a pretty small lunch - 1 fish taco, 1 shrimp taco and chips and pico. It was all very tasty! My favorite had to be the fish taco, it was soo good. The fish was tasty as well too though. I would definitely eat from this place again, I will likely try the queso next and more tacos! Yum yum. I'm also very curious to see the restaurant/store front so my next visit will definitely be in person!

ATheo R.

Yelp
Really nice, fresh tacos with quality ingredients. Excellent vegetarian options as well. Super nice people in store

Salman C.

Yelp
I got the steak burrito and loved it. Be warned, there's only seating for 4 inside with 3 stools at the window. Come on a warm day and eat outside on the patio. Food quality is great! Tacos are 2$ on Tuesday.

Matt N.

Yelp
Ate at this hole in the wall restaurant on Sunday...OMG, the food was good. My family had tacos and quesadillas and if I lived close to this place I would be back weekly. The food is so flavorful, the best of the best of Mexican food..Amazing, highly recommended. Fast, priced well, friendly staff...go here!

Mack Z.

Yelp
Super delicious! I got the crispy shrimp tacos and the baha fish ones and they were very tasty and fresh. These are definitely on the smaller side though so I would order 4-5 to be full. Also keep in mind there is limited seating.

Allison S.

Yelp
Went here on a Tuesday so they had $2 tacos! Such a hard deal to find in DC in my opinion! And they were delicious! The people working there are friendly too! Not much seating inside but it's definitely a vibe during warm weather season!

Sara J.

Yelp
YUM! Went here for pickup during the quarantine and the staff adhered to all restrictions and made me feed safe (1 person at a time in the restaurant). Food was divine! All tacos had fresh ingredients, favorful slaws, and my kids LOVED their quesadillas. Chips were perfectly thin and crispy and salty. Only downside--they forgot my drink :( I'm ok having to go back!
