Where to Get the Best Breakfast in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"New Mexican food is a rarity in Seattle, but Hatch chile fans, rejoice! Those famous, earthy chiles are in everything at Bang Bang, from the breakfast burrito to the queso in the breakfast sandwich, even in the scones. And while a green chile scone might not be for everyone, it really works as part of the Duke City Breakfast, where’s it’s served with a sunny side up egg and swimming in a pool of green chile queso — it’s creamy and cheesy and has only a little bit of spice. If you’re eating here, you can get free refills on drip coffee (roasted at Lighthouse)." - Harry Cheadle

Vital Breakfast Spots to Know in Seattle, Summer 2019 | Eater Seattle

"Unassuming Bang Bang Cafe is all about the staples of New Mexico — the restaurant even flies in hatch chilies. The cafe offers a surprising array of food, with many items made in-house (like the fennel-turkey sausage) and great options for vegans. At breakfast, the Albuquerque-style breakfast burritos with green and red chiles are a must." - Megan Hill

Google
My colleague suggested this place as she saw it was a New Mexico Mexican Cafe (which is rare to find in Seattle)! As we walked in, the atmosphere was calm, and the service was splendid! The owner greeted us and took our order! We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. I ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage, and my colleague ordered Torta Sandwich with a house salad. The food and drinks came out quickly and were beautifully presented. My burrito was warm and saucy! Unfortunately, the sausage I ordered was not in the burrito, but once I asked again, they provided it on the side. My colleague said her sandwich was great, and the dressing on the salad had a nice citrus flavor. I loved how the cafe had a variety of foods, coffee drinks, alcohol drinks, and pastries! Great suggestion, and I would definitely go again! (4 out of 5 for that missed sausage, but they fixed it right away)! Food and drinks were more pricey than I would have liked, but still a nice stop once in a while.

I stopped in for breakfast after disembarking from a cruise, and their turkey avocado sandwich hit the spot, and the side salad is big enough to be a meal on its own! It was huge, I had to take half to go. Also, the hazelnut coffee was fantastic! It can get pretty full inside during 'pops' but there is also outdoor seating and the overall vibe is very kind and friendly. Next time I'm in Seattle, I'll be back to try more!

Google
Wow, is all I can say. The avacado turkey sandwich was so tasty. Wow, the vinaigrette salad dressing was to die for. Cowboy breakfast was so good. A mix of flavors thar went well together. The iced latte with oat milk and sugar-free vanilla was so good I was very impressed and drank it all.

Google
Open seating, great friendly atmosphere. Very good New Mexico style food. I got the basic burrito with avocado, it was excellent! Beautiful way to start our morning here in Seattle.

Google
Before today I had only had their Moon Milk which was comforting enough to come back for another! This time I also had their chilaquiles quiche and side salad. So delicious and reminded me of comfort food back in AZ🌵. Though this was perfectly filling without being heavy and putting you into a food coma after breakfast. 🫶🏼😆 I’ll definitely be back for the baked goods.😍 And added note: Everyone was so kind, personable and patient this morning which says so much about the already welcoming atmosphere. It’s spaces like this that give me hope, everyone carries so much from all walks of life but that’s no reason to stop sharing stories that remind us why we get up in the morning. You never know who you might impact or how.💕 P.s. Their to go packaging is compostable. ☺️

Google
The best burrito I've ever had and it was vegan as well. I think I might move to Seattle so I can be closer. Also someone keeps calling the business asking if they serve burgers, which they do not.

Google
Looking for an amazing vegan breakfast brunch look no further. Many options on the menu, including pastries! First trip I went with the burrito with just egg and added vegan sausage. When I went in there were many others eating the burrito so figured I would go that route first. Didn’t disappoint! Since it was brunch had a Pacifico with it, can’t wait to return and try other vegan options they have! Going into the rotation for belltown must stop!

Google
I got the basic burrito, the hazelnut nitro cold brew, and the chips and queso. Everything was kind of small for the price. This was probably a $7-$9 burrito quality for $13. The burrito itself was very bland and needs sauce to thoroughly enjoy. The cold brew was a cold brew. Tasted like one, acted like one, but I did expect it to taste more like hazelnut. It was a 12oz. The chips and queso are where they won me over. The queso is queso blanco with a spice blend and the tortilla chips are thick and warm. It was delicious. I recommend that.

Yelp
Very good food with lots of vegan and non vegan options, mild chile flavors, good coffee and very good scones. Highly recommend. Everything made in house.

Yelp
This is great food with delightful and knowledgeable workers. (no table service, though they bring your food out to you) Decent number of plant-based options. Casual dining (order at the register), including small tables for solo diners and counter seats.

Yelp
Looks amazing, tastes good. My visit at bang bang was exactly what I needed during my trip to pike place. I was there for over an hour looking round and my body was not interested in anything inside the market. Bang bang is just a few blocks outside of the pike place market and for sure worth the walk. I decided to order online while I was still at the market so my food was ready when I arrived. As I was walking up my food I was shocked by how chill the vibe was in the area. No much going on outside, just beautiful nature and buildings, which was perfect for dining outside. The dining area inside felt small so I'm glad I was able to eat outside on a nice day. Once I was inside I was treated by very nice servers. It wasn't busy so I'm not surprised I got fast service. Even tho it's small inside the decor was very clean and nice. They even offered to put my Togo order on a plate when they realized I wasn't to dine in. The only thing that I was not so thrilled about, was the price. Almost $20 for a smothered brisket burrito. Not terribly over priced and I did have left overs. As beautiful as the sauce was, the flavor wasn't as vibrant as the colors. Don't get me wrong, it did taste good. However I left wishing the sauce came with more bang in the flavor department. Or a one bang 2 bang option. I mean, the name is bang bang cafe, not just bang cafe. Jk jk, but with a serious face ‍‍‍‍‍‍

Yelp
Bang Bang had a great selection of vegan and vegetarian options and even a couple of vegan pastries. Everything was pretty good, but the tempeh was delicious! Counter service was fine, but not very clear. Luckily I was there when it wasn't too busy.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. We got the macaroni and torta (made all vegan) and it was just incredible. Also got cold brew and sparkling raspberry lemonade. Everything was a total explosion of flavor!!

Yelp
Someone Seattle-ized New Mexico. I'm New Mexican. I love everything New Mexican. I'm homesick so maybe this is an unfair review but this is not New Mexican. No Christmas. Meh beans and that was not green chile. There wasn't even the warm and friendly VIBE of New Mexico...cashier seemed annoyed. I'm sure there's folks out there who will like this place, but coming here to feel less homesick, it just pushed me to buy that plane ticket. I can already smell the chile roasting. And we're just not gonna talk about the sun.

Justin S.

Yelp
My mom and I ate breakfast here today. I had the New Mexican Breakfast and she had the Breakfast Burrito. Both were perfect for us (I like spicy and she doesn't) and I also got a side of Escabeche (pickled veg) which was also good. The New Mexican Breakfast is slightly reminiscent of an eggs Benedict but it has the green chile biscuit instead of English muffin and beans & salsa instead of Hollandaise sauce. Delicious and feels kinda healthy! The service was really excellent they kept our water and coffee topped up the whole time. The bathrooms are also super clean. I will definitely come back and recommend this place to others!

Yelp
My husband lived in Santa Fe in the 80s and loves it. So when I read about Bang Bang Cafe I had to take him there for Father's Day brunch. It was so good! Small, and you place your order at the counter, then they bring you your order. Simple but fine. Good service. The star is the food. We both had the New Mexican breakfast, a green chile biscuit topped with beans, a fried egg, and red or green chile, or both. What a great combo! Loved the green chile, just the right spice. Coffee was good too. We will be going back, especially for the Green Posole!

Yelp
Our Lift driver told us about this place. It's walking distance from Marriott waterfront and pier 66. I ordered nachos and hubby ordered burritos. Both were delicious! Very generous potions. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Cute little cafe with good amount of indoor seating. I got the Dirty Pie because it looked really pretty and was quite filling. The cream was light. They also sell day old scones for 50% off which is a pretty good deal. I wanted to try the Quiche as well but wasn't hungry enough. No cafe parking, only street parking. Not too crowded when I went around 3pm. They also have actual food (starters, entrees, drinks, etc) but I didn't get any.

Yelp
Coffee good food Ight ain't not real Mexican food unfortunately ....... .... ... ... . ... coffee good

Yelp
On a short visit to Seattle, I decided to try this Thai restaurant on a whim. I like the idea of eating authentic street food, in this café meets the desire. I try the yams, which, with the accompanying sauce, was delicious. I then ordered the hot and sour soup with coconut milk, and added prawns. It was hot, fresh, and spicy enough to make my fingers tingle. If you enjoy Thai food, this restaurant is a refined, and I highly recommend it

Sandra B.

Yelp
I love this cafe! The people who work here are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome! I recommend the pezole soup! I think it's the best soup in Seattle!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm so excited that bang bang is back open!! The service was fantastic. They were incredibly friendly, and the chef brought my food to my seat and said enjoy, with the biggest kindest smile. It was a lovely gesture. The green Chile was pretty dang good, and the new interior is beautiful. It feels much more comfortable and I LOVE the new booth seating around the north wall. Did I mention how great the staff is! Thanks for a fantastic welcome back. I'm glad y'all are back in the neighborhood. And I also can't wait to check out your restaurant on rainier Ave! I recommend! Oh, and the coffee is better than I remember! Delicious foam, too! Thanks again!!

Yelp
A great cafe tucked away in a bespoke corner of Western Ave, I came in today for lunch and left with dinner plans! They have a friendly service staff and delicious, affordable menu options. I'll be back!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Excellent food and excellent coffee. The location is really cute and the staff is very friendly. I had the New Mexican breakfast with chicken. It was the best biscuit I've had in Seattle so far.
google avatar

Kaks H.

Yelp
Stopped here for brunch and loved the place. Great service, tasty burrito. Latte was great as well and they were serving coffee by Lighthouse roasters!
google avatar

Jess D.

Yelp
The food is AMAZING! You definitely get big portions. The torta with tempeh is the best vegetarian torta i've ever tasted. The breakfast burrito with impossible chorizo was delicious too, though if I came again I would stick with just the burrito and not add the chorizo. The folks working were super nice and there's a lot of seating inside. Order your food at the counter, get a number, and find a table! So delicious.

Dustan O.

Yelp
Stopped in here on a weekend trip to Seattle, only a few blocks off the waterfront this is by far the best breakfast food I've had since getting into the city, and very reasonable priced as well! It's not a direct item, but the owner works right alongside her staff and suggested some raspberry jam to go with the hatch chile biscuit... it was INCREDIBLE! You have to try this place if you're a big breakfast buff, you won't be disappointed at all!
google avatar

Eva Y.

Yelp
Food and service are excellent! Wish it was open earlier so I could stop for coffee on my way to work, but no question this is one of the best brunch spots in town.

Chris R.

Yelp
Everything about this little place was fun. The service is great and the horchata latte was delicious!
google avatar

Jacob L.

Yelp
Came in for a late breakfast and coffee. Really niche little spot with a very Seattle vibe. Service was friendly, but for suggesting a 22% tip on the screen I wouldn't expect to have to bus my own table. Coffee was good, not great and I would say the same for the food. Portions were generous though, and after a night spent at a concert it definitely hit the spot. Their menu is a little confusing, but they don't have real chorizo, it's all "beyond" meat. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to be aware of. I would eat here again and definitely want to try their lunch menu.

T P.

Yelp
Food is good, hours are a bit short. By 9:00 I already have my coffee for the day so I have yet to experience. Might be missing out on some significant local traffic from your building/neighborhood due to 9-5 hours. I would buy at least latte from you almost every day if you opened at 7-7:30, I'm sure many others would also. None of my business really, but if you are open to some feedback, that's mine.

Auriel J.

Yelp
The food and service was great! I loved the horchata latte. My grandmother also enjoyed her chai pudding and breakfast sandwich. The cowboy breakfast is pretty basic so I suggest ordering something different.

Mindy H.

Yelp
Amazing Hot chocolate! We are from Phoenix, AZ and stopped in while we were walking to the Space needle. Great staff and amazing service! Will definitely come back in and will tell everyone about this place.
google avatar

Raquel A.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere! Owner is down to earth and went above and beyond to make sure we were completely satisfied. Gotta have the pop tart!

Hannah S.

Yelp
Super good! Love it here almost here once a week now. Convenient spot for bus stop area and love how soft the brisket is here. Here's some past photos of food I got here and enjoyed:)
google avatar

Mena C.

Yelp
delish breakfast burrito and they are SO FRIENDLY! got a brown butter choco chip cookie for the road. Cute spot
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
I love this cafe it's my go to spot! They have great coffee amazing food and I've eaten every single pastry and they are all delicious! Love that they offer vegan options. The kimchi scone is something to write about, it's so good. If you are hungry the burritos are big and yummy. the service is always great and staff is super friendly.

Ella A.

Yelp
This place was great! Great food, loved all the vegan options but also regular options, made it a great place for me to go with my dad. Atmosphere was great and staff was extremely friendly! Can't wait to go back. Also the cardamom latte was to die for.
google avatar

Richard G.

Yelp
Couldn't even get a glance from the staff. Would have liked breakfast, but they weren't interested. There were four people working and two tables sat. It seemed beneath them to even take our order so we left after standing at an empty register for about 5 minutes.
google avatar

G V.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast spot and if you don't know what to order: get the torta. The vegan torta was delicious and is something I will be returning for without a doubt. Also tasty vegan queso and chips. Cute spot with good prices

Beth B.

Yelp
Great vegan options! Love Shawn's Mac and Cheese and all of the vegan desserts and pastries. Read they were dog friendly in past reviews and while they were courteous about me bringing my very small dog, when I asked if she could be inside while I ate they said no. Makes sense, seems those are the rules everywhere. Maybe if I hadn't asked they would have looked the other way! They do have a couple outdoor tables so if the weather is nice, dogs are still in luck.
google avatar

Leah E.

Yelp
We saw this place had just reopened and we were excited to finally try it! Hands down the best breakfast burrito I have ever had! Get the green and red chili sauce, they play together well and you won't be sorry. The place was warm friendly and casual, a good spot for a quick cup of (really good) coffee or lunch with a neighborhood feel. We will absolutely be back, a lot.

CJ H.

Yelp
A cute, friendly, small cafe. The chicken sausage wasn't amazing, and generally the food could use more seasoning/flare, but the service was great, the horchata latte was great, and it is friendly and fast. I'd give it another try, but for now wasn't impressed by the food.

Jenna J.

Yelp
So happy this place is open again! Love the renovated look and as always the Bang Bang Burrito is incredible. Looking forward to coming back. Great vegetarian and vegan options for those with dietary restrictions.

Omar Z.

Yelp
Service was great, food had good flavor but the beans were undercooked. I had the bang bang burrito with chicken. The chicken was delicious as well as the rest of the filling; potatoes rice and cheese. Just wish the beans were cooked thoroughly
google avatar

Annette W.

Yelp
This place was Awesome I'm not sure if they survived pandemic in Seattle or not i certainly hope so because the food was phenomenal and a true delight to the taste buds staff was always friendly i loved this place and would highly recommend Them especially if they have uber eats door dash or take out the atmosphere of this place was beautiful
google avatar

Elena P.

Yelp
Limited menu which is ok staff friendly had to clean our table outside ourselves social distancing not in forced ok food Lucky I brought my own cleaning wipes

Savannah S.

Yelp
Worst burrito ever. It seems like it's supposed to be Mexican cuisine and there's not even a DOLLOP of spice!? The entire burrito was just beans, hardly anything else. I want my $18 back

Timothy E.

Yelp
Love this place since they reopened recently. They took something that was great and made it even better. Food options are wonderful and great add to Belltown.

Kim D.

Yelp
Thank god they are back and as amazing as before! If you love New Mexican food, you cannot go wrong with Bang Bang! If you don't know what I am talking about, well, you haven't lived and you need to go there soon!

Sienna S.

Yelp
So happy that bang bang is re-opened after their remodel and revamping during the Covid times. Be sure to get on down there for the most delicious coffee sandwiches breakfast foods and pastries. These ladies and their employees are some hard-working amazing people and it's got such a warm environment.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Bang Bang has incredible breakfast and lunch food for omnivores, herbivores, and everyone in between. They have many healthy options and lots of dishes with fresh veggies, although if you want something greasy or sweet they have that too. It's a welcoming space with abundantly friendly employees, too.

Brian P.

Yelp
The best burritos in town and authentic hatch! Had the pleasure of meeting an owner (Yuki) she's a delight had one of the best coffees and customer service from Kayla 10/10 needs to be an unhidden gem

S S.

Yelp
good stuff but i have 1 recommendation: please add cream cheese as a side option for the scone, they would be so good together
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
It's aightttttt -- I got the Green Chile Chicken Burrito and it was a fairly averaged size burrito at Downtown prices ($14 something with tax included) that came with chicken, home fries, onions, pintos and tomatoes. Flavors were clean (a little too clean) -- was definitely looking for something less light lol. Honestly, the burrito tasted like something I could've made at home had i procured the ingredients. Everything was well-seasoned, but I wish there was more cheese a la Perea'a in Albuquerque. I'm also used to having Chile burritos drowned in the sauce like they do in ABQ down in NM -- here they were pretty skimpy. More importantly, the chile had basically no heat. We came around 11ish and they were out of brisket, which made me a bit bummed. There's not a ton of seating inside if you come with a large group, so prepare to grab and go if needed. Alright food, nothing to hit home about!

Sandra L.

Yelp
It's really difficult to find a good burrito in Seattle at least from my experience and being raised in LA. I'm also vegan so my options are limited when it comes to Mexican food in the city I like bang bang because they offer a white variety of vegan options. Both dessert and main dishes. I recommend this place!
google avatar

Smrithi S.

Yelp
Finally tried this place for lunch, it's been on my list for sometime. I had the green chilli chicken burrito, loved it. The green chilli is delicious, reminded me of what's available in southern California. Will be back to try their other options, breakfast and lunch both.
google avatar

Austin G.

Yelp
Bang Bang Cafe is a vegan, casual cafe in Belltown. It's very approachable and sells a variety of burritos from vegan ones to green chili chicken ones (Warning: It's spicy). If you want a latte to go with your breakfast burrito, they'll hook you up. The service is very friendly, but the food isn't anything special, but it gets the job done.
