8 Great Bánh Mì In The East Bay - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This casual spot in Berkeley makes their rolls fresh in-house and puts green onions in sandwiches for added freshness. They have 15 kinds of bánh mì filled with things like lemongrass grilled pork or sardines with tomato sauce. Whatever you go with, know that sandwiches are about the size of a football. But don’t let that stop you from also getting their fresh, well-stuffed shrimp spring rolls. " - Julia Chen 1

The Five Spice Chicken Bánh Mì is absolutely delicious! The chicken is tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned with a fragrant five-spice blend. The crispy baguette and pickled veggies make every bite super satisfying. Highly recommend everyone give it a try! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Google
Stunned by the quality of this unassuming banh mi place on Northside. The quality of the bread was excellent -- both crunchy and chewy. The portions were huge. For happy hour, you can get a huge sandwich for only around $8, pre-tax. I also got both the shrimp spring rolls and grilled pork spring rolls. Usually I like shrimp more, but this place's grilled pork spring roll had a solid char that I really liked/made it more unique. The peanut sauce is ammitedly, not the best l, but the rest of the food more than made up for it. Will definitely be back for the excellent and filling food.

Google
We had both their (Crispy Roast Pork Belly Banh Mi) and (Shrimp Spring Rolls) which were both great! The bread was crunchy and fresh paired with all the crispy veggies as well! The spring rolls paired with their peanut sauce was great as well. We were also able to order ahead using Snackpass!

Google
the pack A and B (full size banh mi/spring rolls + drink) IS SUCH A GOOD DEAL AND SO DELISH i always get the sea salt coffee + five spice chicken banh mi and it is so flavorful and the coffee is not too sweet! one of my favorite post-study bites

Google
First time trying Banh Mi and I LOVE it!! (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)❤️ Their crispy baguette sandwich taste AMAZING and their smoothie is also super awesome!! I’ve also tried their Shrimp Egg Rice Plate, and it’s was really good as well! Their food tasted healthy and fresh, no heavy cream nor sauce that most restaurants have. But you could also add their sauce packages yourself if you prefer strong flavor or spicy. If you’re a vegetarian, pescatarian, or just live eat healthy, this is a definitely a great place for you (a log of veggies dishes, including their spring rolls and banh mi) ! And their meat dishes are amazing as well! The shrimp rice plate is one of my favorite. The eggs are tender and the seasoning is just right, fresh and tasty. The spring rolls are also really good, especially their sauce ☺️ You could tell them not to add cream or sugar if you don’t want it. My favorite smoothie flavor here is avocado, but they also have other flavors. You could have coffee here, but it’s Vietnam coffee, which is similar to iced coffee that is sweet and dense. They don’t have a large inside space, but they do have some outdoor seats. And since most people take out their orders, you could still find a seat if you’d like to dine in. They don’t have restroom available for customers, but the new Mind Coffee beside the place does. It’s a good “combo” schedule for me to have lunch and then go to the cafe afterwards! Definitely one of my favorite restaurants on Euclid Ave 🥰 # Mini Turkey Sandwich 🥖 # Avocado Smoothie 🥑 # Shrimp Scrambled Egg Rice Plate 🍳

Google
This spot is legit! Banh Mi Bite totally hit the spot — the bread was super fresh and had that perfect crunch, and the fillings were so flavorful. I got the grilled pork and lemongrass chicken, and both were bomb. The pickled veggies added a nice tang and crunch too. Great service and reasonable price.

Google
owners were so kind, and the banh mi bread was a perfect consistency! sea salt coffee was incredible, would come back again

Google
banh mi bite is a great place to pickup lunch on northside of uc berkeley campus. have had their banh mi five spice chicken sandwich many times — healthy and delicious. they have convenient self ordering kiosks and you can order on snackpass which is great when in a rush!

Yelp
A quick and efficient bahn mi joint to hit when you are wanting a great sandwich. Bahn Mi Bite is a go to spot for me when it comes to sandwiches and other quick Vietnamese bites. Super tasty food that is good quality! Orders are done super quickly which I appreciate. I love a simple chicken bahn mi with extra jalapeño and no pate (sorry guys, I don't like pate!!) Man, this is good. The bread is fantastic and is the perfect vessel for delivering the fresh ingredients! I love it. This is a classic spot near the Cal campus with good prices and even better food. Give it a shot!

Yelp
If I'm being completely honest, this place missed the mark for me. It's affordable, fast, and in a super convenient spot right off campus. But unfortunately, the food was disappointing. I tried the classic banh mi and the spring rolls. The baguette had a nice crunch, but ended up tasting dry and bland because the filling lacked flavor. The spring rolls were generously sized, but again, really bland and mainly noodles. Even the dipping sauce didn't add much. They have a good range of drinks (the coconut pineapple smoothie sounded fun), but for me, the flavors just didn't live up to expectations.

Yelp
The lady who handed me my pickup order was so sweet, it made my entire day! I feel like not many people go for the pork bologna banh mi (#4), but it was surprisingly generous with the meat and packed with flavor. I'm not even going to lie--I devoured the entire banh mi in one sitting after my math final. I also tried the shrimp spring rolls, which were just okay. I tend to prefer basil over mint in spring rolls, so they weren't quite to my taste. The texture of rice paper doesn't hold up well in the fridge so I would recommend eating these fresh. This place is definitely a bit out of the way since it's so north of campus, but I'll be back for more banh mi and to try their Vietnamese iced coffee.

Yelp
I came in around 1:30pm on a Saturday, there was no line and the interior was small. I ordered through the kiosk. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the spring rolls, I was full after eating just 1! I ordered crispy pork spring rolls but the meat inside was like grilled pork, I was disappointed. Each bite was a perfect combination of crunchy lettuce, fragrant mint, plain noodles and sweet grilled pork! At the end though, it got messy because the oil from the grilled pork leaked. Affordable snack/meal for college students!

Yelp
This place is delicious and so comfy. Great spot to grab a bite to take and sit on the edge of campus. Love the vibe, and the employees are so kind. Thank you!

Yelp
Yummy soda, spring rolls, and sandwich. I've tried a lot of bahn mi, this was a good sandwich-pork wasn't too fatty, fresh pickled veggies, and great bread. Minimal staff interaction as you order on an iPad. Place is small with little seating, not much effort put into appearance. More of a grab n go type of thing.
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
I love getting Pack A with 1 Baguette and 1 drink, I always feel like I'm getting such a good deal for the price and for just how good both the banh mi and drink is. You get so much banh mi each time since they use an entire baguette for each one, and the special Vietnamese white coffee is delicious. I'm so happy to have Banh Mi Bite so close to the Berkeley campus and would highly recommend it, especially to students, for a satisfying, filling lunch.

Yelp
Food here is excellent! It's convenient delicious and located next to campus when I want to get a quick bite. Highly recommend for anyone who loves bahn mi!

Yelp
Ordered food to go on DoorDash. The sandwich breads were larger than most however the stuffing is very limited. Bread was cooked well but hardly any meat and veggies to balance out the bread. The flavor for all was nothing great. Even the fermented carrots (no daikon) didn't taste that great, lots of black pepper. The spring roll only had noodles, meat, and lettuce and it was wrapped very loosely with poor presentation. Nothing amazing, not worth it. The Thai tea boba is bland and boba is very jelly instead of chewy, tough in the middle like it wasn't cooked or thawed all the way. Also, the boba was orange, not brown. Gross. Will not order again.

Matthew D.

Yelp
Delicious food. The baguette they use is wonderful crispy and soft in the exact way you want a Banh mi
google avatar

Ryan R.

Yelp
The bread is amazing! Soft inner, crisp outside. Exactly what you want in a great baguette! The crispy pork belly is fire!! Love this place
google avatar

Grace H.

Yelp
Did not particularly enjoy the spring rolls, sadly. Was also not a fan of the sauce - I was expecting peanut sauce by instead it was an acidic tasting vinaigrette. Just a few sad pieces of shrimp and not much meat either. Definitely not worth the price.

Yelp
I love the food here! The place is always nice and clean. Service is always friendly and food is great! Order online (snackpack) and your order will be ready in no time. They also make really good Vietnamese coffee and drinks here! Located on the north side of Berkeley near campus! So convenient and delicious!

Yamilex C.

Yelp
Very quick service and has very good coffee! Go to is the lemongrass pork, definitely a favorite.
google avatar

Yelp
Grab and go sandwich shop with self-ordering kiosks. I ordered the five-spice chicken banh mi & staff is very quick, received it just under 10 minutes. There's a few tables & seating available along the windows. For a little under $15 you can get a complete meal with chips & a drink.

Aalaya W.

Yelp
A great place to grab a quick lunch near campus! Super yummy I love the chicken banh mi, and Vietnamese coffee is great too!
google avatar

Gloria V.

Yelp
I think this is the best banh mi place in Berkeley in my opinion. It has the airy and crunchy baguette with appropriate amount of fill of protein and vegetables. I'm surprised they add some spicy jalapeño slices! Perfect for my taste and brings me some nostalgia but it isn't for everyone. I don't make any adjustments to banh mi orders except maybe add an fried egg once a while. At less than $10 a sandwich it's a good size and overall tasty. I've tried about 5 different sandwiches and my favorite is the lemongrass pork. It has a bit of patte and seasoned pork. I usually order ahead (I usually buy 5+ sandwiches for the week) and pick up was normal and easy.

Yelp
Great food and quick service! I really enjoyed this place when looking for some vietnamese food near Berkeley's campus
google avatar

Rosie M.

Yelp
My niece wanted to order something that was close to campus and did not have a long line. We were able to find parking a block away on the street. The food was okay. It was just nice to spend some time with my niece in between her classes.

Kaitlyn C.

Yelp
My favorite Vietnamese food near campus! Their pork belly sandwich and pork vermicelli is my favorite! The meats are super juicy! Also bang for your buck! Giant sandwiches!!
google avatar

Joseph K.

Yelp
Being a college student, uncertainty seems to be constantly hurled at you. In light of which, we can appreciate reliability and consistency. This is bahn mi roll and factory Bahn mi and Roll Factory is my go to for a speedy meal between classes near Northside. The food comes out sooo fast! And it is pretty decent for its price. I think you cannot really go wrong with the #1 combo sand which. Ive ordered vi call, via snackpass, and in person before so accessing this place has never been an issue. Coming from the san Gabriel Valley... Is this the cheapest bahn mi Ive had? No. Is this the best quality bahn mi Ive had? No. Does it satisfy the cravings? Absolutely! Will I go again? Most definitely! I appreciate reliability and consistency.
google avatar

Garen C.

Yelp
Really disappointed in my banh mi sandwich. Half gristle and bone; made for a very unpleasant experience eating this back at my office. Had I stayed would have requested a new sandwih.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Great spot for a quick meal. If you're on north side of campus, this place is consistent and quick. Food is solid and always ready by the time I get there. Space is clean and organized, although not large enough to sit and eat with others.
google avatar

Krista V.

Yelp
The best combo bahn mi in berkeley!!! Fresh and hella good, highly recommend. They're thai teas are okay, more one the watery side than creamy.
google avatar

May K.

Yelp
Their banh mi roast pork was yummy and cooked to perfection and the combination pho was delicious!
google avatar

Tommy T.

Yelp
Good Bahn Mis. Good bread, crispy pork was good, fried tofu okay and a little light on amount.
google avatar

Wesley L.

Yelp
As a Vietnamese person, I wouldn't trust any other local business to cater for my banh mi needs than this place. While some places have decent sandwiches, this restaurant keeps it simple with traditional fillings like paté, pickled vegetables, and jalapeños (which pack quite the punch even for myself). Placing the order was simple and they were able to cater to the dietary needs of everyone at my event. Super friendly, quick service, and sandwiches big enough for a meal. A small joint with some seating, but mostly a great place for takeout on Northside of Berkeley's campus to have a nice meal

Taylor N.

Yelp
great selection. convenient and close to campus. one of the better of the euclid restaurants.

Sophia's G.

Yelp
Good Banh Mis at a good price! I love coming to this place since the folks working there are always so sweet and provide good service. For $14 you get a drink and Banh Mi of choice which I think is a good deal considering the size of the Banh Mi.
google avatar

Olivia C.

Yelp
Since returning back to campus, this has been my go to for lunch at least once a week. It's located where Hummingbird Cafe on Euclid used to be. The first banh mi I got was the combo banh mi and a thai iced tea combo for about $10. The full banh mi was humongous. The next one I ordered was a bit smaller and the third was smaller than the second and the bread wasn't as crispy fresh. I have now changed to getting the two mini baguettes and thai tea so that I have variety and because as the full baguettes have become smaller, a better deal. My second go to banh mi was the crispy pork but after today's, I'll probably pass on it. Half the pork was pork fat and skin so I had to spit it out. SnackPass makes it easy to order ahead and they have their own pick-up section. They have very limited seating and it's pretty tight in there, especially if there's a line. Despite the inconsistent quality, I will return. Their combo sandwich has never disappointed me and I am in favor of supporting small businesses when I can.
google avatar

Selena L.

Yelp
Huge sandwiches for a great price! Convenient to order on Snackpass and service is very fast. My sandwich (crispy pork) had good flavor. Price is unbeatable for the quality and size of their sandwiches; would definitely recommend if you're on Northside and need a quick meal!
google avatar

Jimmy N.

Yelp
Now normally I don't give bad reviews unless the customer service was horrible. It wasn't A1 service but it wasn't enough for me to trash them. Got the BBQ chicken and fried egg over fried rice. The chicken lacks flavor. So do the dipping sauce. But what sent me over the edge is that they couldn't even give me the WHOLE fried egg!! I felt so disrespected. Skimpy portions is one thing but man felt disrespected. This was my first visit. And sorry to say will be my last.

Andrew O.

Yelp
I have to agree with other reviews. As of summer 2024, the quality of the sandwiches has greatly decreased. I used to always get the crispy roast pork sandwich because it was always fresh and actually crispy. I recently ordered and it was both rubbery and cold. Also, the size of the sandwiches has shrunk (they're as large as an iPhone 14 pro) and it has increased in price. Not sure what happened after the renovations but the food quality must have also been removed.
google avatar

Audrey I.

Yelp
This. Place. Rocks! I was initially hesitant to come here instead of Nom Nom, because I heard from other reviews that they tend to be less generous w the meat portions. However, this was NOT the case. I ordered the number 6 which is the spice chicken, and it came out in less than 10 minutes. Man oh man, that was a GOOD sandwich. I've had many banh mi's especially in South Bay with its large Vietnamese community. And, this sandwich blows all those other places out of the water. The bread was soft yet still crunchy (especially when it's freshly made), and they give you pâté for free! They also load the sandwich with chicken almost to the point where you want more pickled veggies and the seasonings they use are superb. I live in Northside which is... not known for their food other than Seoul Hot Dog, but I think this place gives you a reason to live up in Northside. Cheap, filling and (reasonably?) healthy sandwiches? Hell yeah!
google avatar

Yelp
Tasty but pricy I was walking near the cal campus and wanted a banh mi. I looked on Yelp and found this place near by it a real hole in the wall. But then again all the business in that area is very small. Ended up walking in a ordered their combination banh mi. Priced at 10+ dollar depending if you get a drink so expect a 15 to 20 dollar bill. As for the banh mi the bread was crunchy. And well stuffed. I think the pickled carrots was a bit overboard and not enough of the daikon radish. Over all wait time was long for a sandwich to be made. It's precut cold slices or either their oven wasn't the most efficient to toast the bread. Over all I'd eat here again but if I was desperate for a viet sando 3/5. Pricing and speed of food. Are the two biggest draw back. I normally pay 3-6 dollars for a good banh mi. But 10 is a bit much. Also might add there's a extra

Yelp
Great sandwiches and amazing takeout service. Always on the mark and on time. This has become a staple for our lunch when in Berkeley near UC.

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked to try for awhile. It is off Hearst on Euclid right by Campus. I know this area has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic so I was excited to come show some support. I've only had one other Bahn Mi in my life and I definitely thought this one was ten fold better. I ordered the 5 spice chicken. The sandwich is huge! The bread was light and fluffy. The chicken was flavorful and tender. Whatever sauce was on it was delightful. To be honest the toppings were my Mom and my favorite part. If you like spice, its definitely not spicy! So grab some extra siracha or ask for jalapenos. 5/5 experience with the sandwich. We also got the shrimp spring rolls. They were beautifully rolled and presented but once I unwrapped them they were pretty dry and bland. I will definitely be back to try the delicious looking drinks and to try the Pho.
google avatar

Victor G.

Yelp
Banh mi & Roll Factory is in Hummingbird's Cafe space. just an ordering counter. no seating seen even if there was no pandemic. offerings: baguette, minis, spring roll, vietnamese coffee, juices, "Packs" *menu is confusing. not clear what baguette, minis, packs were. eats: Pack A 1 baguette + iced coffee (9.50) -combo (thap cam)(#1) baguette heaping lotsa veggies, mostly carrot shreds. some slightly pungent fish taste(pate)?, didn't taste much meat. probably just a few slices, thick fresh, crunchy baguette. baguette looked big but didn't see meat. -iced vietnamese coffee tasted sweet. (not a vietnamese coffee drinker, so i can't really judge) 3.5 stars. maybe should have got 2 mini's. no repeat. re reply by owner: who's david?

Yelp
After reading about this spot on Berkeleyside (https://www.berkeleyside.com/2021/01/12/new-ownership-at-public-market-emeryville-berkeleys-new-banh-mi-spot-senor-sisig-in-oakland), I decided to check it out. So did about forty other people -- the place was slammed on the day that I showed up. Even though I arrived more or less at 1PM, which I consider to be well past the peak lunch hour time, about a half-hour elapsed between my arrival in front of the store and the moment when the staff pressed a baguette sandwich into my hands. I ordered the #13 sandwich, which had plenty of grilled pork, lemongrass and peppers. My lunch was delicious, though it was apparently very salty because I ended up drinking about a gallon of water later in the day. I'm deducting one star because of the long wait, which arguably is not the fault Banh Mi & Rolls. I hope that the operation smooths out and that it will be possible to order online and pick up food at a designated time. Northside needs this place, and it needs your business. Plenty of stores and restaurants on the street seem to be gone forever, and several others are "closed for now." If you come by for a banh mi or a spring roll, you won't regret it.

Jaiden F.

Yelp
So delicious and yum ! I had the veggie Banh mi it was really delicious thank you for the perfect lunch :)
google avatar

Amy Z.

Yelp
Yummy banh mi at a good decent price. I recently got a combo sandwich from here and thought it was filling to the stomach and to the heart. The sandwich had a good meat-to-veggie ratio with great portions of both! I just wishes the veggie was stuffed more inside because they kept falling out as I squeezed my sandwich to take bites. Overall, 100% would get this place again.
google avatar

Sydney J.

Yelp
I ordered a vegetarian sandwich (regular/mini size) for a quick lunch. The peppers packed a punch, but other than that, the sandwich was really good. There was some kind of soft, shredded, almost sweet tasting ingredient which I'm guessing was either tofu or bean curd. Convenient spot to grab a sandwich on the north side of campus.
google avatar

Vivian T.

Yelp
Bestie and I thought we could give this place a try! We always walk by this place when we get our usual drink fix at MIND Coffee. My friend got the Combo sandwich and I thought I'd give the Five Spice Chicken sandwich a try. We ordered it through DoorDash to pick up due to the usual long line of students ordering. It was fast and quick, but very small place. I usually only see two or three people working in there so please be patient due to it being small. My friend thought it was pretty decent for her combo sandwich; I thought the five spice chicken had a pretty good amount of flavor too. I still love me the Cam Huong chicken in East Oakland for their sandwiches though, but it's always good to try new places. I'd give 4 out of 5 for their sandwich. Service was okay; I assume it's because they have a lot to do and many people were waiting for their order.
google avatar

Sofy Y.

Yelp
Good as hell. They have a buy 4 get 1 full size free and their banh mi are BIG. Good bread, even at the end of the day it was still soft!! Got the 5spice chicken w/pate for me and my friends got crispy pork and lemon grass pork. All super delicious , and the spring rolls were plump and the sauce was tasty, had a lil something extra that set it apart, idk what it was but the sauce def left an impression. Definitely gonna remember this place and come back, i remember when I lived on north side none of the food around there was good, I would always go elsewhere for food, but this spot lightweight changing that! Great that there's another banh mi spot besides Saigon express.
google avatar

Akhil K.

Yelp
Late afternoon, we were craving sandwiches. We ordered their combo (2 mini sandwiches & a Thai Ice tea), and some tofu fresh rolls. Food was delicious, ready faster than expected. Giving them a 4 only because they forgot an entire item on our order, once we noticed it they were very happy to quickly fix that. Highly recommend their combos. If you are driving to them - there is street parking but it will likely be tough to easily find a spot so expect to drive around a few blocks to find parking. Overall - good food, fast service. Will definitely return.

Yelp
I came here for a quick Bahn mi and was extremely disappointed. I am sure the sandwich made me sick as it was the first meal of the day and instantly I did not feel good the rest of the day. Food poisoning? Bad chicken? The chicken tasted off almost spoiled, so I stopped eating. I then asked for a cup of ice water to help, and I was told the manager says no. Most places do offer water to customers. Will definitely not eat again or recommend. The stuffed In is right across the street and I would suggest going there as an alternative option.

Em C.

Yelp
Delicious banh mi sandwiches. I have tried the grilled pork, the crispy pork, and the chicken. The restaurant is no frills with online or electronic ordering and most people appear to get takeout (including me). Reasonably priced for Berkeley and for the size of sandwich you get. Sometimes they run specials like Buy 3 Get 1.
