How to Order Banh Mi in Ho Chi Minh City - Eater

"There are more famous vendors of bánh mì chảo, the deconstructed egg banh mi, but this alleyside stall in District 1 is a convenient and cheery place to try this unique dish. Order the everything version, and you’ll get a tiny skillet with two fried eggs, a meatball, and a dab of pate. Mayo, pickled vegetables, and bread arrive on the side, and don’t forget to season your spread with a few drops of Maggi sauce, a constant companion to egg dishes in Southeast Asia." - Austin Bush

Really lucky that this place was near my hotel but I’d have gladly made the journey here anyway. It’s a tightly run ship here, the boss & staff are attentive and quick. Everything from getting seated, ordering, getting my food and paying the bill went smoothly. Appreciate them for kindly offering an extra chair, when they saw I rested my bag on my lap. You don’t have to worry about not speaking any Vietnamese. As things are quite fast paced, it wouldn’t hurt to check if the change you received is correct. Clearly a favourite among foreigners and locals alike. A hearty way to start the day!

I had special Bánh mì chảo (beef, egg, sausage, cheese, meatball, ham and pate) and it was so good. Price: July 3 = 55k July 4 = 57k July 5 = 60k Date: 5/7/25

I went there because of vlogger “what the pho” who shared about great foods in hochimin. It turned out i was scammed by the meal itself. The sausage and pate had odd smell, the baguette is cold and there were only little meat as you can see in the picture (normally 60k can get alot in other shops) Personally, i felt cheated and not worth the price at all. I feel disgusted “what the pho” because of her fake (paid partnership) content, they are not real reviews.

Great breakfast family restaurant in HCMC. Simple menu, not many options but they have mastered their dishes. The deconstructed banh mi is a must. All the fillings you’d usually have served in a flavourful broth with a side of fresh bread. Very filling, generous portion and fair priced the service is extremely fast.

The best meal we ate in HCMC, we went 3 times. The service is great, they always made room for us, and the food was delicious.

Good banh mi chao. Great value, fills you up quickly. Nice friendly service, always welcoming to tourists. An excellent Vietnamese experience.

The cheese can be a hit or miss but overall pretty good Banh Mi Chao. Atmosphere is very chill and a lot of locals seem to frequent this place as well so you get a bit of the 'live like a local' vibe. Shop owners are very friendly and polite if not a bit quiet (likely just because they aren't used to foreigners or don't really speak English) but they do have an English menu to accomodate you. When we were trying to use Google Translate they automatically brought out the English menu to accomodate us. Would definitely come back again if I have the chance!

We have banh mi chao with kumquat tea. Good portion for reasonable price.
