"Stepping into Banhwich in the Outer Sunset feels like you’ve transported yourself into a bygone world where Circuit City and Blockbuster are still on every corner. This tiny takeout counter with 13 different types of bánh mì is decked out with a ‘90s-style fridge with faux-wood paneling and an incandescent light that looks like it belongs on the set of Office Space. While we love all these little touches, it isn’t enough to guarantee a good meal. Disappointingly each sandwich is absolutely dominated by shredded carrots and vinegar that push any other flavors out. Still, the bánh mì xíu mại isn’t a completely horrible meal—the bread is crispy and it will fill your stomach in a pinch—but there are far better options in the city we’d send you to first." - Ricky Rodriguez

Google
My husband got the Chinese BBQ Pork, loved the meat. I ordered Teriyaki Tofu (instead of chicken) which was saturated in flavor. Veggies and Cilantro so yummy, I gave him my jalapeños. He tried the Traditional Milk Tea, it was delicious but too rich for me...perfect for him. I went with a plain Iced Black Tea and it was Soooooo Good! The staff was very friendly and everything came out quickly! Have to try a new sandwich next time!

Google
#1 food spot for lunch personally; I definitely could eat here everyday and not feel bad about it! Great fresh veggies, tons of amazing meat and sauce options, and a super nice staff, it's no wonder I always come back. Never a long wait, and plenty of sweet options if you need to fill that craving on the side! I will always sing the praise of Bánhwich Café and bring whoever I can :)

Google
Sooooo good!! We love sandwiches and can't believe it took us so long to stop in. We ordered a #3, #5, and #16. They were all good.. our favorite was #16 but would order all of them again. We got us a punch card because we will be back!

I needed and wanted some carbs before I started my training session and for a Saturday morning, it seems like nothing of decent, was opened! In Lincoln, NE. So … why not Banh Mi (Banhwich)! No doubt that the setup was typical of Vietnamese owned! I can see the beet root french roasted coffee can… Ohh … ok … Banh Mi Heo quay don’t sound bad at all!! I haven’t had it since … prior to returning to the US.

Google
I love banhwich and have eaten there for 8 years! They have never disappointed me. My one complaint is it can be quite pricy. I just spent $18 on a #1 combo with a small drink. You can eat at a sit-down restaurant for about that price! Otherwise I love it :)

Google
Known the family for years for this whole plaza and I put the most money here aside the market itself. I cannot wait for the finish expansion to the building. It will be much easier to get food and many more station for bobba and waffle without bumping elbows. Always thinking of newer ideas to keep us on our toes to try even if it fails, tell them they do their best to serve it up! Keep it up and hope my purchase goes further for newer things!

Review after ten visits Your experience depends on who’s working. Is the food fresh, or 10 hours old? Is the staff working, or standing around and prepping the boba bar?

Google
Quite literally the best sandwich I've ever had. It was a tad difficult to understand the ordering process, seems like they had special lingo like the box numbers and combos that weren't super obvious to understand but thye didn't make me feel silly for not understanding them. I don't even live in NE I was just visiting and months later I still dream about the Korean Bulgoli sandwich..the Crust was so flakey and beef was full of flavor and veggies were so fresh.

Yelp
We decided to stop by Banhwich Cafe for a quick sandwich lunch during a day exploring Lincoln. Cold Cut Combo and Pâté ($7.76) - Firstly, the baguette has a nice crispy flaky skin exterior and soft and chewy interior. Unlike some other places, the baguette isn't baked until hard. While some of the skin flakes off as you eat, it doesn't easily crumble into millions of pieces. On the interior, Banhwich cafe adds quite a bit of meat. Pickled veggies, including carrot and daikon, add crunch and tangy vinegar notes to the sandwich. There's additional cucumber, deseeded jalapeno ribs, which is fresh and not too spicy, and cilantro to add more herbal notes. A rich pate is spread on the bread to prevent the veggies and meat from getting the bread soggy. It also adds a great savory, salty umami to the sandwich. (4/5) Pork Belly ($8.90) - The only difference here is the meat included and the fact the sandwich is served warm instead of lukewarm. The pork belly is warm and fatty, with a taste that's a little sweet, a little savory, quite a bit tangy, with a definite soy flavor. I found it to be a bit too saucy, with the sauce soaking into the bread and making it a bit soggy. The meat and veggies are both quite sour and the two added together made it just a bit too tangy for me. However, the pork belly is tender and juicy with the cubes just the right size to have in a big mouthful (3/5) Of note, there are a few awards regarding their curry in a curry competition. They offer a masaman curry banh mi on the menu and I regret not seeing it until after I ordered. That's certainly a reason to come back in the future! Bathrooms - Single unisex room in the kitchen

Yelp
DRINKS Vietnamese Coffee with Boba - the drink itself was good. Good Vietnamese coffee flavor. It was a bit on the sweeter side but still yummy. The boba itself was a bit more on the harder side. It also didn't maintain the chewy texture. Within minutes the boba is stiffer. My cousin got a banh mi and said the bread was more on the stiff/stale side as opposed to the good crunchy bread with soft inside of typically viet banh mi bread. He also mentioned it was a bit more on the salty side with the soy sauce flavor. VIBES Lots of people taking orders to-go. There is some space for seating which is hidden behind the counter area. Seems like a pretty casual place to hang! SERVICE Service was great! Everyone was super sweet!

Yelp
Quite possibly my favorite local fast food place. This spot is an excellent gem of Asian fusion that helps people of all backgrounds taking an introductory dive into Lincoln's rich Vietnamese culture. I absolutely love their chicken teriyaki sandwich, but don't get it with jalapeño if you are not a spicy food person like I am. Even the way they pickle their veggies is perfect! I'd also get a milk tea & green waffle if you have a sweet tooth. Definitely the place to take someone if they have a foodie hobby.

Yelp
FOOD - Spicy Thai Chicken: shredded chicken with Thai sauce and veggies. 4/5 - Korean Bulgogi: rib eye sautéed with onions in bulgogi sauce. 4/5 - Vietnamese Waffle: pandan and coconut. Savory. Good without the powered sugar. 4/5 SERVICE: Fast and friendly. 4/5 FINAL THOUGHTS: I would come back and try other items. There's so many options. I like how they have not your typical banh mis.

Nel P.

Yelp
A pretty good selection on their Banhwiches menu. The Spicy Thai Chicken was just a little too spicy for me ... I won't be getting that next time. But their other ones like the Grilled Pork are really good. Their ube and pandan waffles were also a great option if craving for something different and sweet. Would definitely go back here again and try something different.

G F.

Yelp
I love this lil spot! I usually get the spicy thai (I think that's what it's called) and unlike most other places it's actually got some kick! I also really love the smoothies either the boba at the bottom. This was the first place I tried boba and I don't think I would've wanted it to be any other place! I've personally never eaten it in the restaurant but they have plenty of seating of options for people that do! It's a very cozy, homey spot for locals to enjoy and everyone should go at least once!

Solana A.

Yelp
Excellent Banh Mi sandwiches in Lincoln! Cute little place that also offers Bubble tea! Dine in or outside on their patio area! They offer over 15 different options of Banh Mi! Personally, I always get the Lemongrass grilled pork or the Korean Bulgogi Beef and they are always full of meat, fresh pickled veg on a perfectly fresh French Baguette! Service is amazingly efficient and it's never taken me more than 8 minutes to get my sandwich!! When in Lincoln, don't walk run ‍ to Banhwich Cafe!

Sandy A.

Yelp
Quiet atmosphere, nice greeting at the door and they were very helpful. The food was delicious and hot. Will add more soon. Just need to dig in.

KR B.

Yelp
The food is made quickly and it's delicious and it's inexpensive! The jalapeño pepper is always a liiiiittle much for me, so I usually discard those but otherwise I like the sandwiches here. Usually my husband and I get the vegetarian or the curry (made vegetarian). The smoothies and teas are good. My kids LOVE the waffles, green and purple. A family we know likes to order each of their kids a half waffle and a fried egg. Service is decent. The atmosphere is . . . meh. I prefer eating outside when the weather is decent.

David H.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem. Great food. Little sandwich shop. I had the Korean cheese steak. Just delicious. I also ordered a Banhmi with pate. Both were very good with fresh ingredients.

Annie S.

Yelp
A MUST TRY in Lincoln! There are so many options and combinations to try to fit your cravings. My spouse loves spicy and always gets #2 with extra meat and I always get the Korean BBQ, love me some kimchi and spicy mayo. Don't forget your sweet tooth! You have to get a boba tea and try the green waffle.

Nicole C.

Yelp
Got the pork banh mi and it was really good! I just wished they cut it in half, but otherwise very flavorful and fresh.

Forest R.

Yelp
I love the food here so much, but I feel I often get overcharged due to being wrung up wrong. I paid 41$ for two sandwiches the other day.

Gracie C.

Yelp
The service is great! There are a lot of people that are up there if it's a rush hour! There will be at least 3 people to 4 at Bubble tea area, two people making bubble tea, one at register and another who can help with calls or make waffles. Then there will be at least 3 on sandwiches! One to put the bread and meats on, the other toppings and the other wrapping. There are all kinds of sandwiches for people to try. 1-5 are most popular the second one that is popular is the number 19 and ultimate. Now if you never had an ultimate it's basically a number 19 with a fried egg on top! There are also all kinds of bubble tea flavors you can get. They can also mix different flavors and bobas too.

Cody H D.

Yelp
Yumm yummm! This place doesn't seem like a super authentic Banh Mi Place at first, (considering they have Thai curry and whatnot flavored meats in addition to normal Vietnamese barbecue stuff) I do like the fact that you can order a fried egg on top for a nice gooey mess. And although only a couple of their sandwiches come with pate, you can add potato whatever. What I'm trying to say is, I had an awesome bánh mì with Vietnamese barbecue pork and pate. they could slice the jalapeños a bit smaller to be honest, they're basically pickle spear sized jalapeño spears. But damn, what nice flavors!

Adam L.

Yelp
Best Vietnamese sandwiches (ban mi) in Lincoln. Highly recommend! Also has very tasty avocado smoothy and green pandan waffles.

Malcolm C.

Yelp
If I wrote this review a year ago i would be giving a more positive review. Not sure if they have changed ownership but to me seems like the quality has declined a little, when they first opened I couldn't get enough of this place but the last few times It was just average. The meat didn't seem as fresh, less meat and kind of Just slopped together. Very good location and easy to find, plenty of parking, they do have outside seating. I think maybe I need to give them another try to see to see if it was just a one off.

Kevin L.

Yelp
FOOD: Hands down the BEST banh mi I've ever had. Granted it's fusion and not exactly authentic but it still made me "WOW". I'm from LA and I've eaten a LOT of banh mi and this impressed me especially for Nebraska. No offense lmao. Got the ultimate banhwich. It had egg and juicy pork belly and it was LOADED with pickled carrots. Got the signature cilantro too and the sauce was savory Jesus holy damn. Bread was crisp too. It has all the signature qualities of a good banh mi with a fusion twist. SERVICE: OUTSTANDING BECAUSE THE BANH MI WAS AMAZING. VENUE: Big parking lot and decent amount of seating. Very modern and hip design. 10/10/10/10 NEBRASKA HAS GOOD BANHI WTF I WOULD COME AGAIN!!!!

Erica Rikki R.

Yelp
Fast, fast, fast!!! Employees are great and the sandwiches are fire! Currently working my way through the menu. I started with the beef Bahn Mi sandwich, it's a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and fresh. I can't wait to go back and try more sandwiches!

Charles B.

Yelp
I returned to the café after the year of Covid. And they have only gotten better! I can't wait till it fully opens with their expanded dining room. The menu is the same, and everything is so carefully prepared and fresh. tốt lắm!!!

Melynda B.

Yelp
The best bubble tea and service I have ever had!Step daughter recommended to me and I will keep coming back

Jollene H.

Yelp
Endless banmi (they call them banhwiches) options! In addition to drinks, we tried Korean BBQ, Chinese char siu, and grilled pork belly. Will be back to try more during our visit in Lincoln. Great little spot!

DeMarcus N.

Yelp
Great service and awesome sandwich, also try the green waffle comes out fast and everything is easy.

Fox E.

Yelp
If you have a really annoying ITCH And if your Yelp App is being a B**CH And if your drug dealer got reported by a SNITCH Come and get a sandwich at BANHWICH! Salem is a crappy place, or they were, when they decided to Banhwiches from the town, and in fact, drown them all. I can only hope that this excellent sandwich shop in Lincoln NE isn't about to pull the same bullsh**. So, tucked away in the busy part of Lincoln just East of town, is this excellent little Vietnamese sandwich shop with tasty sandwiches and good drinks as well. One of the better Boba places in Nebraska - and there are not many to choose from, but this one is on the good side of things. They have some nice innovative drinks as well and service is really excellent. Everyone here was friendly and I will definitely come back here again and bring Barbie next time I'm in Lincoln. One of my best experiences in Nebraska. And if your Great Grandma was a Salem WITCH And if you've never watched LELO & STITCH And if you wanna wash down your Banh Mi SAMMICH Come and get some Boba at BANHWICH WHAT

Jo L.

Yelp
Best banhwich in town, and decent boba drinks too. I love the bright flavors in these sandwiches, especially the carrot/daikon/cilantro topping. I just have to remember to ask for no jalapeños next time. The pandan green waffle is so good! I used to take my kids' friends here to try the green waffles just for a fun adventure. Everyone liked them. They are made without wheat, I believe they are from rice flour and dusted with powdered sugar.

Dean M.

Yelp
We appreciated the good service and the reasonable prices. The banh mi sandwiches we had were great! We had the veggie banh mi, and the fried egg & patè (mushroom). We also had some bubble tea (avocado). There's also places to sit inside and outside. Keep up the good work!

Tyler F.

Yelp
Fantastic place to grab banh mi and bubble tea. Located next to an Asian market, and I'm pretty sure the quality is all the better because of it. You go in, decide what sandwich you want, decide if you want to get bubble tea (you should), and within 5-10 minutes you're set to go. I believe they also have a dining area inside, I just tend to stick with taking it home. Important to note; most banh mi comes with jalapeno in it, so if you're spice adverse, I'd recommend asking them to hold off on it. Fortunately, I ain't no b**** and chow down, jalapeno and all.

Myranda K.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the bulgogi sandwich I ordered. The coconut milk boba tea that was recommended was so good! I can't wait to go back and try other menu items. Their dining area was really cute and clean. The orders were prepared quickly.

Lala B.

Yelp
For Lincoln, this sandwich shop is a 5! I have tried three different sandwiches and with out a doubt the bbq pork (Vietnamese pork) is my favorites. I like to add extra jalapeños and cilantro to moisten it up a bit more. Onion would be yummy too. The pandan waffle is to die for. The purple one (forgot the name) !is delicious too but the pandan (green) is off the charts. The only complaint I have is that they aren't open for breakfast banh mi and hot coffee with a waffle! We had a bubble tea here once and we drank it all, but I don't recall it being anything extra special or particularly bad.

Jesseca T.

Yelp
This my go to place for Bahn mi's in Lincoln. The bread is delicious and the sandwiches are never disappointing. I highly recommend the bulgogi sandwich!

Kim J.

Yelp
Restaurants in the time of COVID are just weird. It's hard to get the "feel" of what a place might really be like. Currently they are open for takeout only. The restaurant is basically blocked off by tables so you can only place your order and wait. There are no chairs to sit on while waiting and you cannot use the bathroom. I think this is standard practice in many places right now. I ordered two grilled pork Banh Mi. The woman that took my order seemed a bit annoyed that I had interrupted her conversation. There were 4-5 people working which I thought was strange. Maybe they get really busy. I was the only one there. I may have asked too many questions. No one seemed friendly but I suppose it's hard when you have on a mask. The sandwiches were great. My daughter and I both loved them. Very fresh Flavor and the bread was good. Honestly I was surprised because of my interactions inside. Again, it's weird getting used to our new normal. We will definitely come to get these amazing grilled pork sandwiches again!! You should try them too. And when you wear a mask- smile with your eyes!

Chris W.

Yelp
poor beef quality, mostly inedible pieces. Used to be higher quality. Sad because i love the sandwich flavors.

Dustin B.

Yelp
Located in a discreet spot off busy 27th Street, this little sandwich shop is one of the most consistently great lunch spots in Lincoln. When you walk in the small area by the counter is usually a little cramped with people either waiting for food or waiting to order, the place is almost never empty. 20 different selections on the menu, and everything I've had has tasted great. Usually I go for the #7 Vietnamese meatball or the #20 Ultimate Banhwich with pork belly and eggs. They also serve bubble milk tea here with a lot of different flavors, and the Thai tea flavor has become a new addiction for me. Everything comes out fast, and out of like 20 visits there I think they've only messed up on an order once when they forgot to add avocado on a sandwich... definitely sad when you pay extra, but forgivable.

Mike P.

Yelp
Really like going here - great food! Seating situation could be better. Friendly and quick service.

Misty S.

Yelp
They offer many kinds of banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) with the choice of bread - baguette, croissant, or lettuce wrap. I went with the #1 - grilled beef in lemongrass sauce for $5. It was pretty good and filling. Some other choices include Korean bulgogi, spicy thai chicken, vegetarian and Chinese sausage. I also got the popular $3 green pandan dessert waffle and was not disappointed. Pandan is an herb and has a sweet aroma that I really enjoy. I also got the 16oz $4 avocado bubble tea (smoothie with tapioca). It was ok, but would probably try a different flavor next time, like jack fruit. You also get your choice of tapioca or boba. There's seating indoor and outdoor. ....| \ _ , , , - - , , _ , .../ , ` . - ' ` ' . _ \ - ; ; ; , _ ..| , a - ) ) _ . ; . ( ` - ` - ' - ' ' - - - ' ' ( _ / . _ ) - ' ( _ \ _ ) 2018

Yelp
I love this place. The food and drinks are excellent! Also great customer service. Try a green waffle!

Joey T.

Yelp
Pretty hole in the wall banh mi shop on the corner strip mall in Lincoln, but always a stop whenever we I'm in town. The bread and traditional banh mi are the best in Nebraska and a great value at $4.95. Make sure you get a punch card because the 10th sandwich is free. The shop is long with about twenty seats so it's not a great place for a large group but great for a couple or four friends looking for a quick sandwich. The taro waffle is also awesome and would highly recommend. I favor the grilled pork banh mi and recommended here next time in Lincoln

Darian P.

Yelp
Amazing! I tried this little cafe during a lunch break and their food is so good! I had the Korean bulgogi sandwich and a lavender milk tea with boba! Staff is friendly and timely!

Jeff D.

Yelp
Highly recommended place to have banh mi. Surprisingly delicious bo ko banh mi. Flavor is authentic. Would return again.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Love this place! Simple and clear menu is posted overhead when you walk in. Tables and chairs both inside and out, this is not a place for a quiet and private business meeting; it is a place of light and energy. The menu is simple - sandwiches, bubble tea and some canned sodas. A few sides are available but I've stayed focused on sandwich+boba. My favorite sandwich is the #1, which is lemongrass marinated ribeye with onion, carrot, cilantro and pepper. Bubble tea choices include milk, blended and ice tea with flavors and several types of boba. I've never been disappointed with the food or the service.

Bill E.

Yelp
I wasn't sure of this place when my friend chose it - we decided to try one sandwich and oh my goodness am I glad I did. My experience with Vietnamese food in the past was not good. This place had great service and great food. I will definitely be back.

Daryn B.

Yelp
It was so good the juicy banhwiches are crisp and delicious but the coffe is so good to i totally recommend

Brian R.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in Lincoln for lunch or dinner. They have a huge selection of sandwiches, all the ones I've had so far have been awesome, and they're super cheap. Definitely getting your money's worth as the sandwiches have tons of meat and are very filling. The steamed buns are my favorite but they don't always have them, I'm always disappointed when they say they're out. I'm not the biggest fan of bubble tea but I like the ones I've had here. Highly recommend!

Ross W.

Yelp
The owner got back to me and tried to sort out the online ordering issue but something is going on with the internet transaction and apparently the charge never appeared on his end. Not his fault at all, and I do recommend this place whole heartedly. The food and service are great. Being a vegan, I highly value places like this. I can simply reverse the charge with my bank.

Veronica K.

Yelp
This place is just what we were looking for. My husband and I were driving through Nebraska on our way to Colorado and we wanted to stop somewhere for lunch. I read the reviews and this place stood out. We had a hard time deciding which bánh mi to get because they all sounded so good. I got the Korean BBQ and my husband got the grilled pork. They were both very good. I can't believe how much stuff was on the sandwich. They really piled a lot of stuff in it. Plus the sandwiches were kind of big. If we had known how big they were we probably would have just split one. The prices were awesome for the quality and amount of food you get. I think my bánh mi was one of the best I've ever had. Inside it's very cozy. There's not a lot of room inside but there are windows on both walls so it feels larger than it actually is. There is seating inside and outside. I like how you order your food at the counter and they give it to you when it's ready. The service was also very good. I had planned on getting a bubble tea for the road but I was way too stuffed to get anything else. It's a shame because they had so many great flavors available. I'm definitely getting one next time, though.

Kelly F.

Yelp
I'm truly obsessed with this spot!!! I'm on a road trip and we stopped here and i'm so glad we did! It's in this plaza with other asian businesses including a market. We paid $20 total for two amazing sandwiches and two bubble tea drinks. She got chinese bbq and a vietnamese ice coffee, and I got korean bbq (kimchi and kalbi). Bread was toasty and fresh. 10/10! Good service too and quick. We sat outside on their patio. I only wish I lived locally so I could return here again and again!! :).

Andrew S.

Yelp
Finally. My god. Why aren't there more locations? It's authentic and delicious and actually healthy . Don't be scared of sliced raw jalapeño. It's amazing if you add Saracha sauce. The bread soaks it up. And makes its Les spicy and adds perfect flavor. The French and Vietnamese made the most amazing sandwiches. Oh don't forget the cilantro stems and leafs. Awesome!

Alesha S.

Yelp
I love this place, and I have been here over a dozen times. Every sandwich I've had has been delicious, and I take friends and coworkers here whenever I get a chance. I grew up in partly in California, and have really missed being away from all the Asian food options. Banhwich fills a huge culinary void, and you must check it out. My favorite things on the menu are the Massaman Curry sandwich, the grilled pork sandwich, the pork belly, the spicy Thai chicken and grilled pork, the butter chicken, and the Korean beef sandwiches. You really cannot go wrong, no matter what you order. They have a variety of bubble teas, with options of jellies, tapioca, and popping Boba. They just got a new flavor of popping Boba, Yogurt, and it is incredible! My usual drink is Vietnamese coffee smoothie with or without coffee jellies, but today I ordered my husband a taro smoothie with yogurt popping Boba, and is seriously might be my new favorite. They have punch cards, and when you get nine items, you can exchange it for a free drink. The lunch rush can get pretty busy, so give yourself plenty of time if you're coming during peak hours. They also do to go orders, so you could call ahead to save some time that way. PS they have pandan waffles, if you're into that kind of thing. ;)

George C.

Yelp
This place is legit in the middle of Lincoln Nebraska!I'm from Southern California so I know what a good Banh Mi is.
