"With the shuttering of West Village’s the Banty Rooster in August, representation of New Mexican food in the city had all but disappeared." - Tanay Warerkar
"The Banty Rooster, one of a handful of New York City restaurants serving Southwestern cuisine, has closed its doors less than a year after it opened them. The owners attributed the closure to the economic downturn from the coronavirus pandemic and, more specifically, to the way city and state officials responded to it. “Where elected officials might have moderated landlord-tenant negotiations, or addressed the insurance industry’s denials of claims like ours, they did not,” the owners shared in a post on Instagram this week." - Eater Staff
"The Banty Rooster, a recently opened restaurant helmed by hospitality industry veterans Delores Tronco-DePierro and her husband John DePierro, is hoping to rewrite the narrative of Southwestern cuisine in New York City. Southwestern cuisine—not Tex-Mex or traditional Mexican cuisine—is essentially nonexistent in the city, and it also happens to be the food I feel most personally connected to, so it was an easy decision to go that direction, Delores explains." - Billy Lyons
