My friend and I tried here for the first time. I got the Bao Bei bao and she got the Bao Bei bowl. Both were super good and had great flavor. The bun was so fluffy and soft, and the pork belly was so delicious. We are definitely going to come back and try more!

Google
Incredible food and service from Bao Bei and Kevin. They lived up to and exceeded my expectations. I could have eaten 3+ of the Baos, they are that good. The pork bowl is such a great mix of flavors with the rice complimenting each, and would highly recommend as well. The pumpkin cinnabaos were the perfect finish. A unique twist on the traditional cinnamon roll and as big as they are I don’t think you would want to share. Seems hard to go wrong with your order here. Their success is no surprise and can’t wait for their restaurant to open in the near future!

Aug 2024: This place operates as a ghost kitchen, and it took me a bit to find. Takeout only. It’s located in the back parking lot alongside other ghost kitchens, which gave it a somewhat sketchy vibe. However, I was greeted by a staff member from another kitchen, which was a nice touch. For Bao Bei, you need to ring a doorbell for service once inside. I had the tofu bowl. The rice could have used more salt to better complement the toppings, and the tofu marinade didn’t quite match the flavor profile. On the plus side, the eggs were great, and the vegetables were nicely pickled. The side mushroom and cucumber salad was a standout addition, with a good amount of garlic that really elevated the dish.

Google
We stumble upon this kitchen out of pure luck and honestly it’s by far one of the best places we have tried since returning from Asia. The food is so delicious and is served warm. The portions were great and the flavor was 100% there.

Google
Came here with great expectations, following social media posts from a few dmv influencers. Unfortunately, the food wasn't what we thought it would be. It wasn't bad, just average. We had the bao bei bao and bao bei bowl. Perhaps we would have been happier with the tofurriric bao?

Google
I visited Bao Bei after being recommended by a friend to try the food out, and it didn’t disappoint. I got the signature Bao Bei Bao, filled with pork belly and topped with pickled veggies, cilantro, and sweet peanut. The bao was soft and fluffy. Biting into the pork belly, you’re hit with a lot of flavor and juice. The size is about the same as a small burger, but it’s filling enough to feed one person. I would say it’s in between a snack and a full lunch. If you’re starving, I’d recommend ordering two. I also ordered the Toasted Sesame and Scallion Bread. The employee that took our order recommended it, especially since it was only available to order on Sundays. Since I didn’t know the next time I would visit on a Sunday, I decided to give it a shot. The outside is covered in sesame seeds and incredibly crispy. When you bite into it, the soft inside is layered with scallions. I liked it, but I do wish I could have tasted or smelled the scallion flavor a bit more. The order did come with three pieces, which was nice. It provided a nice contrast to the Bao Bei Bao. Bao Bei is located in a center with other businesses. It’s not a traditional food restaurant, acting as a shared kitchen with other shops. When you pull into the plaza, you’ll have to go around the back and keep an eye out for the signs on the door. There’s no prominent signage that points out the location, so it might be tricky to find at first. You can only go in through a set of stairs, and be aware that there is no definitive seating provided. We saw a lot of people coming in to pick up orders instead of placing them there. There are two seats inside, but I wouldn’t encourage anyone to eat there. There is plenty of parking spots if you wanted to stand outside and eat, which is what I did. You ring a bell to have an employee take your order. The menu is small, but that personally made it easier for me to order. They did recommend the Brown Sugar Swirly Buns, but I decided not to try it today. The wait for the food was about 10 minutes, and the order and check-out process was quick. If you’re looking for a place to sit down and eat, this wouldn’t be the place for you. I rated the atmosphere lower because this isn’t meant to be an aesthetic location. While the employees are friendly and offer plenty of help, the focus of Bao Bei is clearly on the quality of the food, and it shows.

Google
This place is intriguing. Limited menu, located in the back of a warehouse area with no seating and negligible storefront (albeit with DoorDash delivery as an option), but the food they make they do perfectly. Their buns had flavors and ingredients that I’m not used to, but trying them was really fun and the flavors came together perfectly. I enjoyed their buns and plan to come back about once a month - more often if they add more variety in the menu options in the future…but I respect their focus. Well done!

Google
Tried this place for the first time and like most others have mentioned, this is a ghost kitchen. The location wasn't hard to find and food was ready and packaged for me to pick up as soon as I got there. I ordered the Bao Bei Bao, Brown Sugar Swirly Buns, Tofu-Riffic Bao, and Bao Bei Bowl. One Bao is big enough to fill you up. It's stuffed with meat and taste delicious. I highly recommend 3 of the 4 items I tried. Both Baos were great and I really loved the swirly buns. It's the perfect hint of sweetness and very filling. I wasn't a fan of the Bao Bei Bowl - not because it didn't taste good but I'm not much of a savory person and I was expecting savory mixed with sweetness. The bowl is filled to the top and in my opinion big enough for two people to share. I will be coming back for more baos in the future!

Yelp
I stopped by an Oktoberfest in the front of the plaza where this shared ghost kitchen is located (two other places are also here). They did have a booth out front, but no tofu bao buns. Not a problem, as I parked in back. They didn't have much going on, but were probably putting buns together for the people out front. I had a bit of a wait for one bun, but it was worth it. I've never had tofu as delicious as this, except from a Yelp event some time ago where we were introduced to this fabulous kitchen. The braised tofu was sweetened from the peanut sugar. Didn't know that was a thing! The bun was super tender. This was such a treat on a beautiful fall Saturday afternoon.

Yelp
We had the pork belly bao, sesame scallion bread, cucumber & wood ear salad, braised egg. The bao is very big, juicy pork. It was good. The sesame scallion bread was good but needed a dip like vinegar & hot pepper. Salad and egg, just ok. Would have loved more spice/zest for everything. We had this after a run & ate it in the car. Would go again.

Yelp
So excited! We had relatives in town: the PERFECT opportunity to order from Bao Bei - I was thrilled to see they've expanded their menu (even more tasty treats!) including a childhood treasure: almond dofu (the absolute perfect summer dessert). We ordered just about one or more of everything - sheer perfection across the board. Pick-up is super easy (and the communal kitchen is such a great vibe). Service is friendly and food is packaged well. We are all rooting for Bao Bei in The Great Food Truck Race!
google avatar

Yelp
Started following these guys after seeing them on Great Foodtruck Race. I decided to try the tofu bao and it was soooo good. Seasoned perfectly and the bao was so fluffy! The toasted sesame and scallion breads were delicious! Crispy on the outside and just the right amount of chew on the inside!

Yelp
Good flavor...must like/love pork yes there are vegetarian options. I should've went with the tofu because im not a pork person. Overall friendly service, and quick. They are very busy and in a shared kitchen space that they make work for sure. I would recommend anyone visit, but if you're not a pork person I caution you. It's as simple as that. One tip...pull around back to find them.

Yelp
Very unique food experience. BB is located on the back side of a building in the heart of Rockville. Nothing fancy seems like an industrial bakery or something of the sort. You can place orders online or in person. There is no seating and no frills but what they produce is simply made delicious food. I had hoped for more of a punch of flavor but the food is good. Try their food with the pickled cabbage and it wakes everything right up. Ample parking, and no seating to dine. Maybe a bit hard to find your first time being there but you will be back. Happy Eating Yeeps!!!

Yelp
First thing to know, is that this place only offers takeout. When I arrived, I was confused because the address leads you to the back of a business center. The location is a shared community kitchen, so we were able to place our order on the spot but I would recommend you place your order online ahead of time. The staff were very welcoming and helpful in explaining the process. We loved our order and it was ready in maybe 5 minutes (so fast!) We tried the traditional bao bei and the tofu bao. Both were delicious, so much flavor and the bao buns were perfectly fluffy. One thing to note is that they are a little challenging to eat, so just be prepared.

Yelp
Just saw this place will be appearing on The Great Food Truck Race tonight, and it reminded me I never gave a review! We've ordered from here a few times, and I always get the Bao Bei Bao - a large, fluffy open bao filled with perfectly braised pork belly that melts in your mouth. It's incredibly authentic and delicious! If you're new to pork belly, keep in mind it's a very fatty cut, but the combination with the toppings makes for an absolutely delectable bao. Just be prepared for a bit of mess! The service here is fantastic, and they often throw in free pickled cabbage, which adds a delightful crunch and a touch of acidity and freshness to the baos. As it's a "ghost kitchen" carry-out service, I can't comment on the ambiance, but that doesn't take away from the quality and flavor. I'm giving it 5 stars - definitely support this local gem! I couldn't find any photos easily, but I'll be sure to order again soon!

Yelp
Omg, their braised pork bao is and their bao zi was My mom also got their wood ear cucumber salad side and we also got a free cabbage salad side, which is very sweet of them to add. The service was pretty fast. I ordered the food through toasttab. It's technically a ghost kitchen so the place was kinda tricky to locate. My mom literally loved it that we had to come back for a second order of baos before leaving Maryland. We are definetly coming back here to get their bao bundle for thanksgiving.

Yelp
Before they were TV famous, I been eating from Bao Bei for over a year and it must have. The buns are made fresh and amazing. I love the toppings and when you take a bite of all the sandwich together, it hits right. The team is very friendly and they appreciate that took your time to eat their food. Currently located at a commercial kitchen, back of the building but will be opening their brick and mortar soon, worth the trip!

Yelp
Really delicious bao! I got the signature, and the pork just melts in your mouth. The bun is fluffy and holds up well to the fillings. The peanuts are a great topping. My only wish was maybe a little more of the glaze or a sauce, but overall it's a delicious and VERY big bao. The pickup location is a bit hard to find - back of a warehouse - but it's well-labeled once you get there and staff are super friendly. My order came out on time and piping hot. There's nowhere to sit, so know that it's a pickup place +I ordered take out, but you can place your order in person if you prefer). They also put a cute pig drawing on your takeout order! Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
It was fine. We got all the vegetarian buns, both the bao and the "bun sandwiches". Bao were good but not very strong in flavour, similar to what I could make at home. Tofu sandwiches were fine but the only flavour that came through was cilantro. I've had very good marinated tofu in the past and what seems to really improve it is adding some crisp or char to it. This was just plain firm tofu. Lastly, I got the almond tofu. While it was clear from the description that it would include canned fruit, the quality of the canned fruit was not good. It was like a child's fruit cocktail cup. Higher quality fruit cocktail or just canned fruit can be easily found and should be used. The tofu itself was good but it would have been so much better with some nice whole maraschino cherries like seen in the picture. Speaking of the picture, the jelly was not cut into cubes like depicted. Instead it was in one big chunk. This made it difficult to get off of the sides of the container. I don't regret trying it once but I will not return.

Yelp
got the tofu bowl, the marinade is amazing! highly recommend this hole in the wall. my order was prepared super quick as well!

Yelp
We were excited to find Bao Bei and show our support. Good portions, delicious vegetarian Bao.

Yelp
This is a to-go only spot located on the backside of a shopping center, in a ghost kitchen. I placed my order to be ready at 6:15 and they were about 10 minutes late for the order. Overall, I felt the food was middle ground. The pork belly buns were good -- good flavor on the pork and the pickled greens provided a nice balance, however I felt there was too much cilantro. If I order here again, I will order without the cilantro. The brown sugar buns are slightly sweet but otherwise fairly neutral in flavor. The scallion bread was not for me but my husband enjoyed it. The cinnabao was interesting. The frosting was a sweet syrup which can be overpowering when you're used to cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting.

Yelp
This one is hard to write because I had such high hopes... I personally didn't find anything extraordinary about this spot. As part of Summer Food Hall-iday 2023, this place piqued my interest because I looooove bao buns. They appear to be a takeout-only establishment. Unless you know what you're looking for, you'd miss the pickup spot. Thank goodness for the internet... They operate out of a kitchen that's part of some type of warehouse. If you've been to Richmond, VA, it's almost like Hatch (not the food hall, but the original Hatch). They only have two bao bun options: tofu and pork belly. I'm not a fan of either generally speaking, so it would be a heavy lift to win my approval from the jump. Recognizing that the odds weren't in their favor to begin with, take my opinion as you will... Each bun was just okay. The texture of the bun wasn't the soft, pillowy texture that I'm used to. Also, I found the sesame flavor to be overpowering. The buns could've used more spice and balancing flavors. I didn't enjoy the texture of the pork belly or tofu either. I also ordered the Toasted Sesame & Scallion Breads which were delicious, but I do wish the scallions were a bit more prominent, and some sort of spicy dipping sauce would've been a nice addition. Lastly, I got some Brown Sugar Swirly Buns. After a quick nook in the microwave, they tasted pretty good. The cinnamon was mild and latent and this isn't something I'd particularly crave again due to the lack of sweetness, but I love carbs so I was satisfied. I always appreciate the opportunity to try something new, so I'm glad I checked them out but I doubt I'll be returning. (Visited on Aug. 30, 2023)

Yelp
Bao Bei has 3 meanings in Chinese, but the most popular of these meanings is precious or treasured. I can see why these soft, pillow like buns are favorites of people who eat them. Today, we ordered Bao Bei Bao, which were filled with delicious pork belly. They were surprisingly large for a Bao bun and filled to the brim with meat and pickled greens. I devoured mine. Then, we ordered the Bao Bei bowl which contained minced pork belly, rice, pickled greens, and an a braised egg. Personally, I was more of a fan of the Bao bun, but my son, loved the bowl. So, different strokes for different folks. Both were good and filling. You cant leave without dessert, so we ordered the brown sugar swirl buns. For me, I needed something a little sweeter. The white icing was small in portion size and hard to split among three large swirl buns. The pillowy softness was on point and next time, I will ask for more icing. Service was very good. We ordered online and it took an additional 10-15 minutes, after we got there. Our order was packaged nicely and the items all were correct, as we ordered. Please, pay special attention to the storefront picture on the Yelp site. That was really helpful in finding the place. It is tucked back in a warehouse district and could be hard to find. This is a carry out storefront, so plan on going somewhere else to eat your food. I definitely look forward to returning and trying other treasured menu items.

Yelp
This is still my favorite place for Bao. I love the care put in the packaging and the hand-written order and note. It is still a ghost kitchen, but maybe some day... I love the limited edition item that shows up from time to time. Currently, it is the Summer Treat Almond Tofu. Refreshing! Over time, I also learned that you can order the bao deconstructed. I love having this option. This allowed me to order multiples (3 this time) and eat them over a few days. Brown Sugar Swirly Buns with condensed milk for dipping are also a MUST! Love that they have pickled cabbage as a regular item now. Everything is 1000% delicious and fresh. Go show them some love. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Bao Bei is a ghost restaurant in a ware-house like area. I first heard of them through Yelp and wanted to try some of their other items. Their menu is pretty limited, but I got their classic Bao and Sesame roll. I wish they sold drinks to go along with their breads because eating so much bread makes the throat dry lol. The classic Bao is significantly better than their tofu one. The combination of the sweet peanut sauce and savory veggies truly make every bit of the Bao perfect. On the other hand, their sesame buns were just fine. I wouldn't order them again, but I like that they had an update to the menu...hope they continue to expand their menu options!

Yelp
I found out about this place due to Yelp Elite event #summerhalliday. I drove there and was a bit turned around but saw company sign so knew I was in the right place. I ordered a Bao bei bowl for a friend and got myself Toffu riffic bowl with a side of pickled cabbage. They also gave me a complimentary pickled cabbage. An employee or possibly the owner came over to speak with me while I waifor my order. He was very friendly and told me how the restaurant has only been around for 1year. My friend and I enjoyed our meals. The portions were good size and flavorful. With the customer service and quality of the food I anticipate this business will continue to be successful.
google avatar

Yelp
Yum! The pork belly bao bun was huge and so tasty! I got one of those and a side of pickled cabbage, which was also quite good. I was originally going to get two bao, but glad I didn't because it is easily twice the size of a regular bao.

Yelp
Tons of free parking. Accepts online orders and can pay via credit card. Located behind the shopping center. Be sure to find the Bao Bei sign on the door. We heard tons of praise about this place and wanted to give it a try. We ordered their pork bao, pork over rice and their brown sugar bun. The pork bao was a decent size. Not your typical small bun. It was big enough to satisfy your needs. It can be shared, but big enough for an adult. It contains greens and was a bit sweet, the pork was nice and juicy. I thought it was okay, but others in my party liked it. Their pork over rice was delicious. Similar to the pork bao, but with rice. Decent portion and enough for 2 people. Wished there was an option to make it spicy. Needs some acid to cut down the fat, but it was a pretty good dish. The brown sugar buns were a bit bland, but it comes with condense milk for dipping, it was decent. If you have a sweet tooth, this is a good option. The staff here were very nice. Be sure to order online at their website. Also, they were nice to add a nice artwork on an index card that is attached to your order. Wished they offered tables outdoors for dining, but it's okay. If you are in the area, definitely give this place a try. The price is decently priced especially for the area.

Yelp
The menu is simple but they do a stellar job on their speciality item, the baos, and ordering online on the toast app was easy and convenient. The store itself is a ghost kitchen so it was a little hard to find and strange to drive up to what looked like the back of warehouses, but once we found the bao bei sign it was easy to pick up our order. The owner was at the store and he was very friendly and gave us a sample of a new item they were testing. We ordered both the pork belly bao and the tofu bao and they were delicious, but I had a slight preference for the pork belly bao. The texture of the bao buns were perfectly light and fluffy and the pork belly was juicy and succulent.

Yelp
I had an excellent first experience at Bao Bei! For those people who don't have a car, their ghost kitchen is totally accessible! It's a 20 minute walk from the North Bethesda metro. Google Maps was accurate in leading me around the building to find the right door to the kitchen. The walk there is about the right amount of time to place a pickup order. When I made the order online outside the metro station, my food was already bagged and ready for me to pick up when I arrived. I had to walk some more to find a place to enjoy the food. Fortunately, there were chairs and tables outside the Harris Teeter nearby. I ordered the bao and pork bowl. Both were very tasty. The bao is large and could be a small meal or a snack on its own. The bowl was also a large portion size. I ate about a third of it before packing it away for another meal, which I was really excited about later. I'm hoping for a Bao Bei expansion into a restaurant with seating. I recommend reading the profile on the owner in the Washington Post. There's definitely an appetite for their food around the area.

Yelp
I can't lie it felt really cool walking into this place. Definitely felt like some local secret. The chef was polite and the food came out super quick. I ordered 7 not knowing how big these we were.... They are absolutely MASSIVE... biggest and best pork buns I've ever had. Even good as leftovers.

Yelp
I've ordered from Bao Bei many times now and I love that they keep coming out with new items! I just tried the new bao zi (pork & shrimp and veggies)! The flavor really reminds me of home! Their pork belly bun is one of the best in DMV! Huge slice of pork belly with their homemade fluffy buns! The anime you get from your order is also a nice touch. You can really tell these guys are having fun selling these buns! Definitely taste the love!

Yelp
SO GOOD!!! Went back AGAIN for the delish buns. Authentic pork buns that are just the perfect meal any time of the day. Trust me when I say it tastes even better than what you'll find in Taiwan! The pork belly is super tender and flavorful. The peanut powder and sugar mixture has a great texture, and the bun is HOMEMADE and it's so good. I could eat the bun by itself. We also tried the scallion bread and the swirly buns. Both are excellent as well. Yum. Ive also tried their tofu buns in the past and loved those as well. Super flavorful and a great substitute for the pork! The place is pick up only. Def would go back again!
google avatar

Yelp
What a tasty treat! I ordered the tofu items on the menu, along with the wood ear and cucumber. The flavors were bursting in my mouth. Just the perfect combination of saltiness with a touch of sweetness from the wood ear and cucumber salad. Ooo-la-la!!!! You really can't go wrong with anything you order on the menu! I will be back! Just a tip for you all - this is located on the backside of the building. When you pull into the front of the building, go on the right side of the building to go up towards the back. After that, you should have no problem finding this place! Enjoy!

Yelp
I met Kevin at my job and he promoted his place for a Yelp review so I am obliging. Wow is this place cool. It's like getting amazing food from a speakeasy. Don't be scared by the creepy loading dock entrance; it'll all make sense once you go in the door. The bao from Bao Bei are mind blowing. Tender and tasty and the perfect compliment to the pork filling. I'm not usually a fan of pickled anything but the pickled greens were actually a nice offset for the richness of the pork & bao. The pork itself was so tender and juicy!!! One warning, the amazing brown sugar swirly bao are three to an order which is a lot of dessert...but they are DEEEEELICIOUS!!!! Once you've eaten one (or three) your belly just exudes an overall happiness that's hard to describe. You need to order these. Kevin was confident that Yelpers would dig his new place and he was right. This Yelper is definitely coming back!

Yelp
Located around back of the industrial business area, comes the ghost kitchen where Bao Bei resides. Actually 4th time ordering from here, couldn't pass up on the Summer Halliday specials offer. This time opted in for Bao rice bowl which comes with pork belly and received signature Bao Bei bun for free :). This is ghost kitchen so don't expect to have a place to sit and dine, but ofc you can always sit in the parking lot in your car and started eating while it's hot! Hahaha that's what we ended up doing it anyways. Cute drawings on our brown bag, very friendly staff who answered all my questions about ghost kitchen (he didn't have to) . Haha! All in all we'll definitely be back again.

Yelp
Bao Bei has limited and very unique and delicious food. In addition to either pork or tofu Bao buns, Bao bowls and seasonal treats, you've got to try their Cucumber & Wood Ear Salad. The mushroom is nothing short of addictive and offers simply refreshing flavors and an array of textures. The Brown Sugar Swirly Buns are so fluffy and fun. They are very slightly sweet, but once the condensed milk is poured over them, they become extremely sweet (which was not a deal breaker for me at all). As the other reviewers state, this is a ghost kitchen, and I am looking forward to see their growth! I also love how some items are packaged in compostable containers; such as the Brown Sugar Swirly Buns!

Yelp
I had marked Bao Bei as a place I want to try. And it just so happened that it made an Elite Yelp promo this past week so I took advantage of it. Bao Bei's location and shared kitchen set up gives a lab/startup vibe. I ordered some of their signature dishes like the pork, tofu, brown sugar buns, and rice bowl. Upon entering I could hear someone carefully packing in the back. Although it was a few minutes late, I appreciate the effort that the owner, Kevin, took time meticulously packing my order. The main item - Bao - is sizable and bigger than you normally see at restaurants. Although it isn't a meal by itself. Both my pork and tofu buns were savory and tasted automatically Taiwanese; And am agreeing with my fellow Yelpers with their reviews. I was gifted with a small order of the cabbage pickle, and it went well with both buns and rice bowl. Probably an excellent choice as a bundled item. Bao-Bei is an excellent choice for ppl on the go, e.g., before/after movie, shopping, etc. And ideal for traveling, e.g., eating in the car. Best wishes for Bao Bei. Will come again.

Yelp
Extremely authentic gua-bao that reminds me of my home, Taiwan. I would go there all the time if I lived closer! It's probably a good thing that I don't live that close actually, or else I'd be broke.

Yelp
As other reviews have probably mentioned, once your GPS takes you there, you might be confused and caught off guard by all the construction. Don't panic like I did, just drive around to the back behind all the construction and you'll find a bunch of "warehouse" looking buildings. You'll see a small sign pointing to the Bao Bei entrance, right next to a set of short steps leading up to the door. I ordered for pickup; no issue with picking up as the bag with my name on it was ready and waiting for me on the table when I walked in. The pork belly baos were good and a decent size for almost $9 each, but I've had better for less. I'll give them a 4/5. Wood ear mushrooms were tasty. I was also surprised to find a complimentary cabbage salad with my order; took a bite but didn't really enjoy it but hey it was free. They also have tofu baos and bowls, which I might try next time!

Yelp
I cannot do the typical "food, service, ambiance" because this is a ghost kitchen. -- Ok, I low key don't want to write this review because then more people will find out about this hidden gem. Bao Bei is a ghost kitchen but don't let that fool you...they have great flavors and HANDMADE BAO DOUGH. When I'm telling you, it tastes JUST like my grandma's (the ONE time she felt like making char siu bao because it's so much work), I'm serious. Watch their Instagram. He does everything himself! Hubby knows my love of all things Asian food and discovered this place on Yelp. We ordered on the Toast app as we live about 40-50 minutes away and scheduled it ahead of time. I got the tofu bao and DH got the pork belly bao (without mustard greens). Greens is a very *Asian* flavor (imho) so I left mine as God intended, lol. We also got an order of the swirly buns. Bao were $7.95 each (including swirly). We were a little miffed at the price but I was all in. A nice guy greeted us and said it'd be 5 more minutes (we were early anyways!). When we got the bao, they were massive!! (in a good way) A slightly sweet, soft, PERFECT bao bun. I didn't taste DH's but my tofu one was delicious. The tofu was marinated and given love--it did tofu justice! The swirly buns were sweet (but not overly so, just a touch) and came with condensed milk sauce on the side. These were a wonderful treat as well. We ate the swirly buns during our drive through of the Winter Lights Festival. We also got a complimentary salad that tasted like a ginger vinaigrette on it, as well as a cute note!! We will definitely be back and I'm excited to hear when he opens his brick & mortar!! I love supporting fellow Asians as well. Wishing y'all the best.

Yelp
I was in the area, and wanted something fresh. I found Bao Bei with good reviews. The address is a little tricky. It's in the back of the building. When I first walked in I thought I was in the wrong place. It's a ghost kitchen. People just kept telling me to walk to the back...I ended up in the kitchen lol Someone came out and walked me back to the front to view the menu and order. It's a pretty straightforward menu. And it took about 10 mins. I ordered 3 boa because I wasn't sure of the portions. He said I could have a seat. The waiting area was just a desk and 3 random chairs...it's a Ghost Kitchen. I didn't mind. Everything was delicious!!!!! The portions were a good. I also got some free kimchi...which was also good. Overall, I would recommend.

Yelp
So I heard about this place and I was told that it was a g-g-g-g-ghost kitchen and I was like "Awesome... it's Halloween... I want some spooky food made by spiritual apparitions." Now, before you tell me that I'm a dumbass and that is not the meaning of "ghost kitchen", I'm sure you also would tell me that the tooth fairy isn't real. Then who is leaving money under my son's pillow when his teeth falls out, cause it's not me! But I digress... this place is awesome. It's located in the back of some warehouse and when you see a door with a cartoon pig. You might want to try to walk into that door... you go into the next one. And when you walk in chances are there is no one there... and your food will be at a table and no one is around. The ghosts are probably in the back... or invisible... I don't know how ghost works. And the food is heavenly delicious... cause it was made by the undead spirits.... Cause it's from a ghost kitchen. The baos are super super soft and the pork is salty, sweet, and also soft. Since I mentioned this before... this place is a ghost kitchen... so you'll need to order it online first... I tried to call before and no one answered... cause their either busy or ghosts...

Yelp
What can I say that hasn't already been said in other reviews?! I went to pickup from Bao Bei two days in a row! First visit was for the pork belly baos. They were delish. Loved the flavor and tender pork belly with the fluffy bao. I did order them fully constructed. Next visit, I think I'll order them deconstructed so those that are obsessed with the pickled mustard greens can add extra to theirs! Second visit was full of swirly buns and sesame buns! So good when they're warm. Loved the softness of the swirly buns. I didn't use the sweetened condensed milk cause they tasted great even without it. The sesame buns were so fully of scallions and had the right touch of seasoning. These freeze great and re-heat in the air fryer very well! Will be ordering again soon cause I need more of the sesame buns!

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise! Takeout is located in the back of a warehouse. Up the stairs, through a back door, and all you get is a table and shelves to place order, along with commercial kitchenware stocks. Apparently these guys share a kitchen with 35 other establishments. But the Taiwanese street food they turn out is top notch. We had the signature Baobei Gua Bao with braised pork belly, peanut and sugar shavings, and cilantro, vegetarian Gua Bao with the pork replaced with dried tofu, and vegetarian baozi. All are on puffy steamed bun and very close to what one may get in Taiwan, except bigger, American sized. Fresh ingredients, really nice people operating. They will be closed from Jan 17 to as late as February 28 for a TV show filming. Best of luck with the filming guys! In the meantime hurry over and get some!

Yelp
Super yummy! We needed a quick bite to eat on a busy night and heard that Bao Bei was open. My daughter and I are vegetarian, so we ordered the Tofu-rrific Bao and Bowl. A single bao is almost enough to be a meal, but it would be perfect with a little side soup or salad. The pickled mixture couples well with the sweetness of the tofu. My kiddo devoured the bowl and also loved the flavor of the tofu. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We really are rooting for this business! We got the Bao Bei Bun, the Bao Bei Bowl and the brown sugar swirl bun. The buns are huge! It is a little on the expensive side but what isn't these days. Anyway, it's filled with delicious pork belly and the bun itself had great consistency and taste. I definitely recommend getting this. I also would come back to try their tofu bun bc I think with whatever seasoning they put on there, it'll be great! The bowl was also delicious! We do wish there were a little more meat but still it was delicious! The brown sugar swirl buns were soft and tasted like regular buns. We didn't taste the brown sugar but they did give condensed milk as dipping a dipping sauce and they tasted well together. All in all a great experience! Will definitely order again'

Yelp
Bao Bei Bao This place took me for a loop. I was in the Rockville area and saw it was close by so I decided to try it. I ordered online and set my GPS and I was on my way. I ended up going around the area and I see a woodworking shop and my GPS said it was in this strip. I go in and it routes me to the back. I was like "ok....where am I going?" It tells me to stop and I see the sign on the door. I was wondering maybe I miss the front or something, so I looped around. Nope, nothing. So as I walked up, the next door opened and I was greeted and they had my order ready. So I had the place right, yay! When I got home to eat it, it was good. I got the Bao and the bowl. The bowl is flavorful and had a lot of nice sides and it reminded me of what I ate when I was little. The Bao was pretty big and the Asian bread was nice and fluffy. I would say the bowl had a lot more flavor. The Bao had some good parts and some fatty parts and dry parts. It may have been that way since I drove 35 mins home (traffic). Either or, I felt like I found a gem in the area. The cost was reasonable for the amount of food you get.

Yelp
Bao Bei offers various Taiwanese eats, but being most popular for their baos. We tried: +the Tofu-rrific Bao - filled with slow-braised tofu, pickled greens, peanut sugar, and cilantro (which we opted out of) in a bun +a Tofu-rrific Bowl - rice topped with slow-braised tofu, pickled greens, and braised egg (opted out of cilantro) +the Brown Sugar Swirly Buns - steamed buns with Taiwanese brown sugar; comes with a side of condensed milk for dipping +Cucumber & Wood Ear Salad - pickled salad prepared with crispy wood ear mushrooms, cucumbers, and garlic; we went for 'spicy' The buns were slightly dried out; we weren't liking the peanut sugar, which made the buns a bit too sweet; not sure if the one who was preparing them was just heavy-handed with the ingredient that day. Not being pork eaters, we knew that tofu was our only option; unfortunately, we weren't fans of the texture nor the flavor. Honestly, we weren't fans; with all the raving reviews, we wished we had the similar tasty experience. Maybe their seasonal buns are better, or we went on an off day? This place is located in a warehouse, so it's more of a to-go type of a situation. Their logo is cute, though! +dried out buns +overly sweet +friendly service +plenty of parking

Yelp
When you arrive be sure to drive around the back of the building because that is where they are located. It's just a take out spot with a limited menu and there is nowhere for you to sit down and eat. When I picked up my order, the guy had drawn cute little artwork on my bag. I thought it was a nice touch. When I got home and opened my bag, and saw they had given me a mini salad which was pretty good. For my order, I went with the Pork Belly Boa which I thought was going to be a mini boa but it was large like the size of a burger. The pork belly was tender and flavorful. I enjoyed it.

Yelp
Bao Bei is a Taiwanese restaurant that specializes in bao buns, rice bowls, and traditional sides. They are open for takeout and delivery. It takes about 15 minutes for them to prepare an order, so it's encouraged to order online before you get there. My fiancé and I ordered Bao Bei Bao (with peanut sugar on the side), Cucumber and Woodear Salad, Tofu-rrific Bowl, Pickled Cabbage (with carrots and radish), and Brown Sugar Swirly Buns (with condensed milk). Everything was tasty! I can't wait to try their Tofu-rrific Bao, Bao Bei Bowl, Toasted Sesame and Scallion Bread (available Sunday only), and Almond Tofu!

Yelp
Ahhhhhhhhhhh!! I don't even know how to start raving about Bao Bei!! But First I pray for God's endless blessings over the business over the owner and his family And I pray that God gives them all their hearts desire My hubby and I went here for the first time today and we were greeted by such warmth and kindness by the owner, and we were able to see the amazing kitchen where all the action happens. They personalize your bag with your name, your order items and artwork personalized by themthey make it personal thought it was cool. We ordered these items: 1. Braised Tofu and we also got to try the pumpkin brown sugar rolls!! The food was beautifully flavored and on another level. Here are my pictures and pleaseeeeee take the time to visit them and try there delicious food Watch out America Bao Bei is on another level for food, customer service and top notch quality. This is not a restaurant it's more Catering and Carry-Out

Yelp
Finally had a chance to check out Bao Bei and it didn't disappoint! Ordering online was super easy and my order was ready at the time specified. Before you head over to pick up your order, be sure you check out some pictures/tips on Yelp as this ghost kitchen is located in the rear of the building, door N (but pickup from door O). No one was up front when I came in, but saw my order on the front table so I was able to grab it quickly. I ordered two Gua Baos (pork belly) because I definitely wasn't going to share my bao. My bao was packed with tender and flavorful pork belly. It was braised nicely and contained more meaty than fatty pieces, which I appreciated. The bun was super soft and fluffy. It was also huge! I enjoyed the pickled greens and thought the peanut sugar was a nice touch. This bao was definitely filling. Their menu is rather limited, but I'd be interested in trying out their bao bei bowl and brown sugar swirly buns next time. I'll be back!
