The 16 Best Restaurants In Northern Liberties - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"We like to think of Bar 1010 in Northern Liberties as an adult pizza party. Loud hip hop is playing, boozy drinks are flowing, and the pizza—which is fantastic—is being enjoyed by all. The pizza is a thin, yet bubbly-crusted, Neapolitan-by-way-of-New-York hybrid. We prefer anything with a red sauce but there are also more fun, creative pies—like the jalapeño pesto—than you’ll find at most pizza shops." - candis mclean, alison kessler

The Essential Restaurants of Northern Liberties | Eater Philly

"The ultimate pizza bar, Bar1010 has garnered a stellar reputation of serving up the hottest and crispiest pies in Northern Liberties. But beyond their generous pours and slices, they have other notable dishes — such as their massive blackened wood-fired chicken caesar sub — that’s worth the trip." - Ernest Owens

Bar 1010 - Review - Northern Liberties - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Editor's Note: Co-owner and pizzaiola Mike Fitzick left Bar 1010 after this review was written. We will be checking back in for an update. We like to think of Bar 1010 in Northern Liberties as an adult pizza party. Loud hip hop is playing, boozy drinks are flowing, and the pizza—which is fantastic—is being eaten by all. Like all good pizza parties, other assorted snacks and shareables are available. But at this one, the wood-fired pies are really the only thing you need to have on your table. photo credit: Gab Bonghi The corner spot, formerly home to Spuntino, is still anchored by the tiled pizza oven, but has an upgraded interior. Families and groups of friends pile into the brown leather banquettes, and neighborhood couples share pizzas at the few marble two-tops. It’s all open to the connecting bar and pizza station, so aside from admiring the plants and the Drake soundtrack, you can see the masters at work. The pizza is a thin, yet bubbly-crusted, Neapolitan-by-way-of-New-York hybrid. We prefer anything with a red sauce—the margherita and spicy ‘roni are addictive—but there are also more fun, creative pies than you’ll find at most pizza shops. The jalapeño pesto beautifully combines the minced spicy pepper with a dollop of pecorino sour cream, while the buffalo chicken (which usually makes for a sloppy slice) is crisp, spicy deliciousness. photo credit: Gab Bonghi That said, if Bar1010’s pizza is Meryl Streep, the rest of the menu is still at theater camp. The fresh, garlicky bruschetta is served on sad grocery store bread, and the salads are overdressed and underwhelming. The cocktails are solid and you definitely get your money’s worth, but nuanced libations they are not. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Like most parties, the one at Bar 1010 can get messy, and you may have your first few bites without plates or silverware. But when the pizza is this good, it's (usually) a bash to remember. Food Rundown photo credit: Gab Bonghi Bacon Salad If you need a salad before your pizza, this is the one to get. The combination of thick-cut bacon, pears, and creamy goat cheese is fantastic, and the dressing is tangy and refreshing. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Margherita The pies here have a thin, crispy crust, but not so thin that you can’t fold it (and they still have those puffy charred bubbles). This one is simple and perfect: sweet, bright red sauce, gooey mozzarella and parm, and peppery bites of basil. There are a lot more interesting varieties to choose from here, but overlooking this would be a mistake. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Spicy Roni This pizza combines shaved jalapeño, crisp-chewy pepperoni cups, and hot honey, all with the signature tangy tomato sauce and lots of creamy mozz. It’s spicy, but not necessarily going to give you the meat sweats. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Jalapeño Pesto Not our favorite pizza here, but definitely the most interesting. It combines fresh shaved jalapeño and a glob of pecorino cream added post-oven. The crust holds everything together perfectly—no sog in sight. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Buffalo Chicken We used to be buffalo-chicken pizza skeptics. It’s usually an overloaded, oversauced mess. But Bar1010 has made us believers. This combines housemade buffalo sauce, pungent blue cheese, tender pieces of chicken, scallions, and it keeps its structure through the life of the pie (which, yeah, you’re going to finish). photo credit: Gab Bonghi Salted Caramel Espresso Gelato All of their ice creams and gelatos are housemade, and they're all creamy and flavorful. Our favorite is the cookies and cream, but this is a close second. It could give some of our best scoop shops a run for their money." - Alison B. Kessler

Google
BAR 1010 has been on my list to try the parm espresso martini & pizza for the longest! I was underwhelmed with my experience. Firstly, the place is small. The bar is 4 seats and the whole ambiance doesn’t give anything to write home about. The floors weren’t clean and the bathrooms were dirty. The espresso martinis were good. They were small for the price though. The parm one was interesting, I wouldn’t say it was as special as people hyped it up to be. The spicy roni pizza had nice dough and crust. There wasn’t enough hot honey on it, but the jalapeños added some heat. It was ok. Overall, I was surprised by the ambiance and everything was mediocre. I wouldn’t go back.

Google
Neil was an amazing host, our first here . And would definitely recommend to other. All way from Florida. Our pizza and Martini. Was on point. Thank you Neil for being so amazing. You deserve a lot of praise. Keep up the great work.

Google
A truly memorable and exquisite experience! Was voted best espresso martini in Philadelphia and definitely easy to see why! The best Caesar salad I’ve ever had!

Kristina Derkits

Google
Can’t wait to go back!! We tried a few different flavors of the espresso martinis and got them with tequila instead of vodka. We also ordered the Tomato Pie & Seasonal Squash and Saucy Trifecta pizzas. All of it was delicious!

Google
On a lunchtime weekend visit I'm not all that impressed with this place. They don't make a good initial impression because the first thing you see is these filthy paper menus that look like someone used them as a chocolate milk coaster. If you're going to use paper menus I'd advise printing out enough that you can provide clean menus to customers. The service starts out ok but they don't check on you often especially if there's a crowd. The pizza is of decent quality if you enjoy the floppy style where all the topics fall off when you pick it up. I personally do not.

Google
Came here on a whim after seeing the sign outside and had the most DELICIOUS wood-fired chicken vodka parm pizza!! My girlfriend and I also had a dirty martini and a lemon drop- they were tasty and perfectly made. The excellent server/bartender was a pro and made us feel right at home. Will definitely be back!!!!

Google
Such a fun selection of drinks, especially if you love espresso martinis. Bummed that they only do happy hour at the bar & there’s only 4 bar seats. Drinks were delish tho!

Google
Neil, the bartender, was incredible—his espresso martinis were easily some of the best I’ve ever had. You can tell he takes pride in his craft, and it truly made the night special. Huge shoutout to Laura as well—she was our waitress and went above and beyond. She kept our drinks topped off, made sure we had everything we needed, and did it all with such warmth and professionalism. Both Neil and Laura made our visit unforgettable. Honestly, I wouldn’t think of coming back without giving them the recognition they deserve. Amazing service from start to finish!

Yelp
I stopped at Bar1010 after seeing it on a tv segment because the pizzas looked so interesting. So glad I went because the pizza I ordered, the Tricky Tikka, was excellent! Talk about flavorful! The cilantro lime chutney flavor is very prominent but pleasantly mildish and that with the heat from the jalapeños create the perfect balance. What's so important and not always found, is a crispy crust. The pizza had the perfect crispy crust...and not burnt. The service is a bit slow so prepared to wait a bit which I am prepared to do because there's so many other pizzas I want to try.
google avatar

Slopmaster T.

Yelp
Pizza was so friggin good mane. 5 slices got me folded. The tricky tika and hot honey ranch blew my mind. I'm going to eat here every day for the rest of my life.
google avatar

Courtney L.

Yelp
This is your sign to order pizza in with your bestie! Tonight being a cold rainy evening; there will never be a better time. Look no further and order Bar1010 for delivery for some delicious speciality pies! @sliceofsabs and I ordered these pies while having a girls night in with champagne and it was incredible! 10/10 recommend! We ordered the autumn harvest, tricky tikka, & fun guy. My personal favorite was the autumn harvest!
google avatar

Lanie R.

Yelp
The hot honey ranch pizza and cheesy bread were 10/10. First time I've had a good pizza in Philly

Jake B.

Yelp
Drinks were very good and so was the spicy sausage app Pizza was slightly above average Service was slow and we weren't here at a very busy time
google avatar

Morgan F.

Yelp
We got takeout because the space seems a little more upscale than what we're usually looking for for lunch. The pizza was good! But definitely doesn't seem to match the atmosphere. Boyfriend put the plain pizza in his top 5! I thought it was really good but I've had better for the price
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
Great espresso martinis though many fall in the realm of sweet. Tikka pizza is delicious. Staff always super nice. Really like it here.
google avatar

Cassie O.

Yelp
We've been trying to get a table at this place for a while. We finally went early and were sat immediately and wasn't too crowded yet. The pizza did not disappoint. The hot honey ranch pizza was phenomenal and the buffalo chicken was good too. Not too much chicken on the buffalo chicken though. If you like espresso martinis they have like 10 different kinds to choose from. Would absolutely come back.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and the service and food were both great. However, the store itself seemed a bit unorganized. Our menus were extremely dirty (picture provided) and we were sitting directly next to their stash of high chairs and extra chairs. It was a bit cluttered. We ordered the espresso martini and it was sweet and delicious. We shared the bacon salad (swapped the cheese) and the spicy roni pizza. The pizza was bigger than a personal but smaller than your average pie. It was delicious and I have zero complaints! I will definitely be back to try more flavors. The salad was refreshing but a bit pricey for what it was. Flavor was there! A restaurant located in a great corner spot so it's fun for people watching and to eat some tasty pizzas.

Yelp
I have been to Bar1010 a few times now. They have happy hours 3-6 pm. The drinks specials on the HH menu are good. We missed HH today and ordered food from regular menu. Food came promptly. Drinks were flavourful and strong. Loved it. Korean chicken pizza was good and very different in taste. Cheesy bread and the dip was also very good. The ambiance is casual and nice music playing in the background. 3 TVs showing different sports. I recommend this place.
google avatar

Gabriella L.

Yelp
I'm not a fan, the food is mid at best, the service is not impressive, and the whole restaurant is pretty small. The lure is their parm espresso martini.

Zachary M.

Yelp
The service was great, the drinks were good and the pizza was delicious and perfectly sized for one person. Only downside is it's a bit echoey
google avatar

Lily K.

Yelp
Bar1010 is the best for unique pizzas and cocktails. The espresso martini with parm is so tasty and the food was incredible. Highly recommend the burrata app
google avatar

Sam B.

Yelp
Great pizza, good apps. good atmosphere! Interesting options. Tvs for sports. Bar seating
google avatar

Kam C.

Yelp
Can confirm the espresso martini with parm is delicious!! I also enjoyed the 5star martini. Caesar salad had a copious aka perfect amount of parm on top as well. The figgin bacon and spicy pepperoni pizzas were both very tasty. The crust was doughy and soft but still thin and easy to eat.
google avatar

A M.

Yelp
This bar wasn't prepared for the espresso martini bar crawl, very disappointing. What a poorly managed event. They randomly decided to close the bar in the middle of the afternoon. This place is supposed to have good cocktails, I wouldn't know. I won't be back to try because of the poor service and management.
google avatar

Roshni P.

Yelp
The best espresso martinis in town! Some seasonal ones but the dirty chai is my fav! Their pizza is also just as great!
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
Camera definitely didn't eat/drink first tonight. Started off with the Strawberry Tequila Sour (made with egg whites) so "fluffy" and fresh I'm obsessed. Moved my way on to the cheesy bread, which we devoured moments after it was delivered. It was cooked to perfection. Ended our night with the Tikki Tikki Pie (limited collaboration with Libertee Grounds). Everything looked as good as it tasted if not better. I will absolutely be back.

Yelp
I've wanted to try this place since it opened and I'm glad we were able to do it on a nice weather Friday. It has opened where Spuntinos was located so has some big shoes to fill but I have to say, Bar 1010 pizzas are great and this place is a great addition to the neighborhood. We ordered a spicy roni, Philadelphia pizza, the strawberry tequila cocktail and husband got a mezcal cocktail. Cocktails were very good and food was delicious. We were seated outside and service was just ok. It took some time for our cocktails to come after we placed our orders. I'm not sure if our server was not checking on us very often because we were seated outside and they just prioritize customers who are inside or something else. I'd give this place a 5/5 on food and drinks and a 3.5/5 on service. No dog bowls, no provision for a plastic takeout bowl too was a turn off. I will give them another chance though once they've had a chance to settle in.

Yelp
Parm espresso martini & the tikka pizza are a MUST! The service is amazing, the food? Even better. Now my staple when i visit philly
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
Clean restaurant, service was amazing Came here for lunch and a midday pick me up and it was exactly what I was looking for. Cocktails were awesome Pizza was great Salad was delicious & fresh My only regret was not giving this place a try sooner
google avatar

Dom A.

Yelp
I was low key disappointed in the pizza here it was a little too doughty for me with the bottom of pizza being a little too burnt. I went during happy hour after seeing it posted on IG but when I sat down I wasn't given the happy hour or told about it until I mentioned it. The drinks were cool I went with a dirty martini and a espresso martini
google avatar

Alexis S.

Yelp
We had the best time at Bar1010! Espresso martinis topped with Parmesan were delightful, Caesar salad was cold and crisp, the pizza was delicious! Staff were super attentive and friendly!
google avatar

Bryn W.

Yelp
My daughter moved to an apartment nearby and this was on her first list of restaurants to check out. I visited her and we went for some lunch. So glad we tried this place out! Such a great lunch! We had the Street Corn Za and it was incredible. We just had the Corn pizza at Beddia two weeks ago and let me tell you this bad boy was just as good! Also grabbed the cheesy bread and bruschetta and both were excellent! I will return for sure but I'd also recommend the restaurant consider making the Street Corn Za a permanent member of the menu. I think today is the last day to get it.
google avatar

Joey S.

Yelp
Take a traditional Neapolitan pizza, reduce the hydration by a few percent which gives the dough much more structure and you have BAR1010 pie. It was really a very good pizza, I'd highly recommend trying it. This is NOT the same style of pizza as the old habitants, Spuntino, but it's similar with more structure. Great service, nice vibes, a good experience!
google avatar

Shelly G.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday night and wanted to check out the new pizza spot in the neighborhood. We have been seeing it posted around social media and thought it we would give it a try! I'm not a huge fan of Neapolitan pizzas but there's is good! We got the spicy roni and chicken tikka and both did not dissappoint. Our server was really nice but I don't know if she forgot or where the mess up was but we ordered tomato pie as an app and that didn't come until after the pizza (which doenst make sense). The tomato pie was good too! But wish it came out in the proper order. Ambiance of this place is chill and a good casual place to dine in the neighborhood.

Charles A.

Yelp
Got a margherita pizza delivered that had hardly any cheese. Looks nothing like the pictures posted here. $20 for this?? Pizza is so small and they couldn't even put a proper amount of cheese on the pie.
google avatar

Dominique S.

Yelp
Found this spot recently since they offer espresso martinis with Parmesan shredded on top. Sounds weird but the salty sweet combo is nice. And to be honest you barely notice it. Food is tasty.

Erin M.

Yelp
I enjoyed this place when it first opened, but recent experience was very odd. I have never in my life been to a pizza restaurant that didn't serve ANY wine. They do not have any wine in the restaurant. Even dive bars have wine. They do have an extensive cocktail menu, but those took an extremely long time to arrive in a mostly empty restaurant while multiple staff members stood around behind the bar doing nothing. No one offered us a second round once they were finished, so I guess they didn't really want us to have those either? Service was polite, but awkward. Our experience was not at all our server's fault. He did his best. The food was...fine...I won't be back.
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
I've been hearing such rave reviews about Bar1010's pizza, my pizza loving husband and myself had to come check it out. We stopped in on a Friday nigh without reservations , and were promptly seated indoors. Food was okay, service left something to be desired. We tried the Caesar salad with homemade dressing - found that to be bland and not worth it, wouldn't recommend personally. Both of the pizzas were okay, the dough and crust is great but the toppings and flavor profile didn't hit home for me. The Buffalo pizza was fine, but honestly similar to D'olivas at a higher price and smaller pie. The Kings Pie sounded better on paper, but just didn't hit for us. The Gruyère flavor wasn't prominent , and the prosciutto wasn't what we expected, but the caramelized onions brought this pie together. It wasn't busy this night, and our server walked by us several times which felt like avoiding eye contact and was slow throughout our dinner. Overall, not the best first impression but an okay experience
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
Service was good - super friendly staff who squeezed us in on a busy night. The pizza was good.. the mushroom pizza (fun guy) was my fav. The drinks are delish.
google avatar

Megan Z.

Yelp
Everything tasted very fresh and packed a punch of flavor. We had the bruschetta, which was seasoned perfectly, the caprese salad, spicy roni pizza, and green goddess pizza. It was a great sampling with many fun textures. The Oreo gelato to finish was a surprise! So creamy and full of cookie.
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
I wish I took more photos of the INCREDIBLE food. Definitely check out this new gem in the neighborhood. We ordered the burrata, margarita and chicken bacon ranch pizzas. The burrata came with a ton of prosciutto and an arugula salad w/ fresh tomatoes (for the winter too, wow!). The pizza was thin crust and tasted super fresh. They also seem to pride themselves on cocktails, offering the ability for you to pick your liquor and a "type" of flavor/style and the bartender goes to work to make a unique drink. I also appreciated how the bartenders stopped by our tables to introduce themselves and asked about our drinks. It's clear they care about their customers. Long story short - definitely try this place. It's a keeper!! My only constructive review is they should either have AC on or windows open becaue it was a bit hot in there with the oven going.
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
Run, don't walk! This place exceeded my expectations. I already went twice in the span of 2 weeks - Make a Resy if you can! Service was great, everyone was very nice and attentive. Started out with some craft cocktails and they all came out really good. To start, you cannot go wrong with either the cheesy bread or tomato pie. The cheesy bread comes with the same homemade garlic marinara that comes on the tomato pie, and the tomato pie comes with stracciatella (homemade cheese sauce). Both 9/10. When it comes to the pizza, the Spicy Roni (9/10) was my favorite, then followed closely by the Margherita (8/10), and then the Jalapeño Pesto (7.5). Good sauce to crust ratio, light and crispy. Ended with the cheesecake and the lemon bomb. Both were... bomb! Definitely will be back.
google avatar

Steve P.

Yelp
Horrible driver hasn't moved in 1/2 hour. Just please tell me I'm not getting my pizza

Tamer B.

Yelp
The pizza felt like cafeteria pizza. Good crust though, which was a redeeming quality.

Gigi V.

Yelp
My best friend and I just ate here for the very first time. The food and drinks were stellar (the chicken caesar was DELISH and the fig and bacon pizza was PERFECT) but the customer service was the best part! I'm routinely disappointed by the service from the restaurants and bars in this neighborhood, but Neil (our server) and the Chef were so kind and charismatic. A memorable experience and new favorite for sure!
google avatar

Brook G.

Yelp
Cute little place to grab some pizza and drinks with friends! Hands down probably one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had. We got it with the parmigiano and it was amazing! Definitely not what you would expect and worth the try
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
Great food, awesome drinks, and friendly waiters. I would definitely go back here again. I really enjoyed my pizza and appetizers. Everything on the menu is super shareable. Restaurant is very clean!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
I will not be going back there due to their customer service. They messed up my to-go order. I ordered the Fun Guy, but it didn't have any truffle oil, red onion, or chives on it. It was just a cheese and mushroom pizza. When I DMed them on Instagram like their website says, someone said they would refund me because the person that normally checks all to-go orders before being sent out was out that night for personal reasons and would email me a new receipt. However, after providing my email address, I never received the refund. I then messaged them back on Instagram three additional times over a 2 week timeframe and emailed them about it and never received a response. This is very disappointing for customer service so I will not be going back.
google avatar

Allyson B.

Yelp
SO DELICIOUS!!!! drinks are amazing too!! Very cute in there but kinda tiny. deff would go back
google avatar

Marcella G.

Yelp
Really wish I remembered to take pictures before we devoured our pizza :) Went here with a work friend and our significant others so a group of 4 perfect for sharing. Would definitely recommend checking it out! We shared the cheesy bread which you should definitely try! And then the arugula (spring salad) and ces salad, both were fresh and good. Then the pizzas were really great! Not overly greasy or heavy. We each picked one so we could try different ones so we got the green goddess, spicy roni, Buffalo chicken, and chicken bacon ranch. They were all really good each one pretty different. You could tell it was quality crispy bacon not like bacon bits and the ranch dressing (which we also got on the Buffalo) was really amazing!! I think the Buffalo was the general favorite of the group but I like veggies a lot so I really liked the peppers, zucchini, and arugula on the green one. We definitely ordered more than we needed to but it was nice to have some left overs for lunch today! Also wanted to mention the cocktails they have a section where you can pick an alcohol and then like sweet, tropical, spirit forward, and a few other options and they make a drink for you. I asked for something tequila not spirit forward (specified not spicy) and got a peach/strawberry marg and it was really tasty and light! I would definitely go back even just for that drink! I Enjoyed the surprise aspect of it! They did have a few cocktails you could select from as well if you prefer to know exactly what you are getting! Others at the table did the same thing and also liked their drinks too!
google avatar

William D.

Yelp
Yoyo I'm back! Was looking to get tacos on a Tuesday, but seen a pic of the Spicy Roni Pizza, so I had ditch them plans and pull up. Give it a whirl folks.
google avatar

Neil P.

Yelp
Food and ambiance was absolutely spectacular!! The service was also above and beyond. Definitely one of the best pizza places in the Philadelphia area. The bruschetta was very well put together and fresh. We got a couple different pizzas for the table, our favorites being the Jalapeño Pesto and classic Margherita. The dessert is shipped from Italy and was sooo good. Totally recommend the chocolate slice (forgot the official name). Looking forward to trying their cocktails next time, definitely will be coming back soon!
google avatar

Danielle B.

Yelp
Based on reviews, I thought that I would enjoy this place more. We were there on an early evening in winter and as soon as we walked in, we noticed the lighting was super bright, the heat stifling and the music was mediocre so much so that we almost walked out. Our server was kind and friendly, however. The pizza was a standout for the city- very good, no doubt, but the ambience seemed to lack a vibe.
google avatar

Anne F.

Yelp
Came here with a friend for dinner and can't recommend it more. Great happy hour offerings, including $10 cocktails, $5 beers, and some appetizers and pizza slices. We got the tomato pie with stracciatella dip which was delicious. I'm not a big tomato pie fan, but really loved how much flavor was packed into a really simple dish. For the main we split the King's Pie and both really enjoyed it. It was the perfect amount to split between two people. I will be coming back!

Yelp
everything about this place is always 10/10. the food, service and drinks never disappoints. we enjoy coming here for every date night or socializing time. we've enjoyed the pizza EVERY TIME and the amazing espresso parm martinis. Allan has been a great server every-time. Great pizza spot to come to in Philly! 10/10

Matt D.

Yelp
They sadly do not have pistachio martinis as hoped but otherwise delicious! Good food and drinks
google avatar

Kiki C.

Yelp
Love this new spot! The cheesy bread was super delicious as well as the spicy roni and margherita pizzas. The ambiance was nice and casual (not too rowdy/not too fancy). Our waiter was great and very accommodating. 10/10 recommend
