The Best Portland Restaurants Near Moda Center and Oregon Convention Center | Eater Portland

"Pouring two dozen wines, beers, and ciders by the glass alongside a savory array of tapas and conservas, Bar Botellón has a little something for everyone. The space is wide and inviting, with decor that combines modern and rustic elements with little disharmony. Despite the proximity to the convention center and Moda, this is first and foremost a neighborhood hang, so anyone rooting against the Blazers on the projector screen should expect some friendly jousting." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
Great atmosphere, perfect for relaxing with wine and snacks. They have a great selection of canned goods from Spain at really good prices (when I checked online, the prices here were the same or even cheaper). Service is excellent, and if you buy a can, you can eat it there for a $4 service charge - they’ll open it for you and serve it with bread and pickles. They also have a unique selection of bottled wines, and the $9 sangria is amazing. Highly recommend!

Google
Little gem for excellent and very tasty tapas; favorite were the mushrooms and the cheese ones. Smooth ambiance in a nice looking and modern place. Would go again for sure :)

Google
Such a great place. Owner is lovely, he has an incredible selection of tinned fishes, condiments, and other interesting items. Intentionally curated wine selection. I go out of my way to go here to buy things for myself and for gifts. Also a great place to meet a friend for a glass of wine and some snacks. Can’t recommend this place enough. I’d be there all the time if I didn’t live way in SW.

Google
I love BAR Botellón! Despite being in a busy area, the space feels calm, open, and relaxing. The selection of wine and snacks is well curated, delicious, feels very true to its Spanish theme, and features options you won't find elsewhere. The owner is knowledgeable and clearly is passionate about creating a special experience.

Google
Authentic tapas bar with an amazing wine selection. The mushrooms were a delightful experience: citrus, then oregano, then garlic, then heat. They're planning to have music a couple of times a week, too.

Google
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the warmest hospitality by Allan, who made our visit truly memorable. The wines were exceptional, with the Garnacha standing out as my favorite. The tapas were not only delicious but also perfectly paired with the wines. The attention to detail and customer service were top-notch, making us feel valued and cared for throughout our visit. The decor transported us straight to Spain, adding to the authenticity and charm of the place. My spouse and I had an incredible time and can't wait to return. Highly recommend Bar Botellón for a delightful and authentic Spanish experience!

Google
What an awesome find. We stopped at BAR Botellon while wandering east towards dinner reservations and it was a delightful surprise. Service was awesome, and the vibes were intimate. Tons of great wine and beer options, tapas were tasty, and the atmosphere relaxing. Highly recommend.

Google
Just went here a few days ago and had a couple of great tasting brews. Had a wonderful conversation with the owner and other guests. Learned about tapas, wine canteens and more. The free tapas with each of my beers was so delicious. I’ll definitely be back.

Yelp
If you want to experience a little of Spain and to some extent Portugal, you need to go to this place. Exactly the way it is over in those two countries Alan is a very knowledgeable guy and we had a great time just having some wine and hors d'oeuvres or should I say tapas I highly recommend this place I don't post a lot of reviews, but this one is worthy of it

Yelp
The pros: the wine selection. I also love the vibe of the place - it feels like a cozy spot to hang with friends and people watch. The key drawback is the food experience. They specialize in tinned meats, so what you think certain seafood items look and taste is completely different from what you receive. It would have been nice to have received a full understand ing of this before ordering. The 3 is more like a 2.5.

Yelp
What a cute little place tucked in East Portland! They had a pretty small wine list for drinking (in my opinion), but it looked like they had a lot more to offer in bottles. There is a small market inside, with delectable choices of canned anchovies and other fish. Service was great.

Yelp
What a lovely establishment with beautiful details and a welcoming and inviting vibe. From the chocolates on the counter to the carefully chosen tins of fish, to the friendly bartender and the delightful rose. Bar Botellon is a gem, where they really make you feel like you're the only customer in the place. This is my new favorite stop for a glass of wine and some delicious handmade tapas (try the marinated cheese and the sardines!!!!!!) I will be back!

Yelp
Stopped into Bar Botellon because they were participating in the Kuto apps Shop Small Win Big event! Glad we decided to take a break for wine & tapas here, everything was a delight including the employee working that day. We ordered some various pickles, breads, and tinned fishes as well as a few glasses of vino to enjoy. They have a nice selection of wines, including a decent number of dry sherrys. Will definitely return, love that they use Kuto!

Yelp
I didn't dine in but I love a place where I can buy some Son of Man cider along with some various tins of seafood. Well, this is precisely such a place so I did precisely such a thing. Pass on those beef sticks by the register though.

Yelp
Great spot for delicious wine and small bites with a deliciously curated market and bottle shop

Yelp
I really enjoy supporting this neighborhood wine bar. The fellas behind the bar are super sweet. I make an effort to take out-of-town guests here for a glass and snack. It's a good casual date spot too. The manchego is sliced so thinly; it's delicious. It's a great spot for an afternoon libation. Have some olives, too!

Yelp
Pleasant, informal, small but tasty menu. Fun to try unfamiliar Spanish wines.relaxed staff

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in Portland. They have an array of beverages and delicious sandwiches. I highly recommend!!

Yelp
Cutest place , great service and very very unique experience ! Next time I'm in Portland I'm bringing everyone with me here. I regret not buying the vinegar sauce. Now I'm on a tapas kick !
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so cute. Just came in for a quick glass of wine but they gave me a delicious free tapa during happy hour and it had a great chill vibe. I am sad I saw the $5 Prosecco on happy hour a little too late but the Tempranillo was delicious and robust. Smoked oysters are one of my favorite things and they sell them with saltines! My fave side, sadly I wasn't hungry but want to come back and try. They also do drafts to go soooooo go here.

Yelp
It's the real thing. Love the selection of Spanish wines, and especially the Manzanilla Sherry out of a cask, which is great with tapas. The tapas themselves are authentic, and artfully prepared and presented. Classy environment too. It's worth going a couple of blocks out of the way to eat and drink here, and parking isn't as tough as it is closer to the bridge.

Yelp
This place was awesome. It's in a quieter part of Portland. The restaurant space itself is awesome, very modern and clean. The service was great. Wine is definitely their main attraction, they had a good selection of local wines included. Prices are reasonable. They served us complimentary tapas with the wine which was unexpected and great. Overall, worth a visit.

Yelp
Excellent service, food & amazing wine! Definitely a place you want to go Great tinned seafood options

Yelp
Such a great experience here. Stopped by for an impromptu date night on the walk home and loved it. We live in the area and kept meaning to pop in. So glad we finally did! The aesthetics are clean, intentional, and inviting. The feel stays true to a Spanish bar with tapas served alongside their beverages. Tasty bites that go with tasty wine. We had the smoked sausage and really liked it. Looking forward to exploring some of the tinned seafood next time. Also, the bartender/owner, Ben, was great to spend time with. This place has a great thing going. :)

Yelp
If you're looking for the PDX experience this place will likely fit the bill, for me it didn't. Food was expensive and the presentation was a bit off. A can of tinned, served in the tin, sardines with soda crackers for nine bucks? Overpriced wine in mismatched glasses? Service was friendly and the atmosphere was nice, I just expect a little more food for the money.
google avatar

Ryann C.

Yelp
The selection of beer and whiskey was decent and the offering of complimentary tapas with each drink order was a delightful surprise. The service was great and the ambience was nice. The bar was tastefully decorated and welcoming.

Yelp
We first visited this place a couple of weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised to find out that Botellón does tapas the true Spanish way (specifically, the way tapas are done in Madrid). With each drink round, you receive a tapa, or a delicious small bite of food. We have never encountered another place in the greater Portland area that does tapas the Madrileno way. So much fun! And the tapas were delicious. We also ordered a larger plate of snacks to share for dinner. All of the ingredients were high-quality. My favorite item was the pinxo of tortilla española w/ pequillo peppers! In English, we would describe it as a potato/egg/pepper omelette or casserole bite. We were just in Spain this past summer and Bar Botellon was a fun reminder of all of our fun in Madrid!

Steve S.

Yelp
I'm still in awe. Real tapas. Free with every drink. And they get progressively bigger! The concept of the bar is taking wine home from their selected barrels like a growler of beer; but in a Bota. Wine knowledge and food quality are top shelf. I can't wait to go again tomorrow night.
google avatar

Jon T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and great food. They have outstanding options on the menu and while on the smaller side, they are cooked to perfection. I wish we lived closer to order the Bocadillo sandwich every day! Several wines available and draft/bottled options. Small, homey, and with a Spanish vibe. This place was an awesome find.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect place for a wine or beer happy hour. Great atmosphere with an incredibly welcoming staff. They have wine on tap and I ended up leaving with a bottle of Cameron Pinot that they bottled and corked on the spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Bar Botellon is such a great little wine bar and bottle shop. They have a nice list of wines, beers, and ciders (there's even a sake option) plus they bring you spanish-style tapas for every drink you buy. Staff was attentive, restaurant was clean and quiet with tasteful and fun music. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
I believe this will be our new neighborhood go-to place from now on! It is a great little wine bar (plenty of beer on tap too, plus a nice selection of bottles) that offers complimentary tapas with your drinks. Have you had their fantastic Spanish omelet with piquillo peppers? I'm Spanish and I might be a bit biased, but then again, maybe you should order another drink and judge for yourself :) The space is elegant and warm, with just a taste of Spain. They have some bota bags behind the counter to carry around your wine (hey, perfect for hiking, thought about that?). The owners are charming and thoughtful, Allen will help you find the perfect wine for your taste while Ben surprises you with some delicious bites to accompany your glass. While far from being a soccer bar, they will show good games if you ask them. They were so nice to have us watching the latest Barcelona - Madrid clásico, as well as the UEFA Champions League final. They even made a special Spanish/Italian omelet with pasta instead of potatoes (what!) to go with the Spanish/Italian themed UCL Final. SO GOOD!
google avatar

Megan J.

Yelp
Awesome spot!! Cider was fantastic and the tapas Spanish style food serving was on point. Love the sustainability approach to their whole establishment. Music playing in the background was also great. Not from Portland but would definitely come back to sit at the bar to drink and snack. Would give it 6 stars if I could!!

Yelp
Always like to stop by here for a glas of wine and small appetizers. Staff is always friendly and the small tapas are very good quality.

Yelp
I'd heard great things about this place and finally made it in to check it out. Incredible selection of unique beer & wine, and they even have sake on tap! The owners are inviting and clearly very passionate about what they're doing. Alan engaged us in lively conversation during which we learned how his time spent abroad inspired their business. The surprise tapas were a pleasant addition to our two rounds of beer, and the environment was cozy on a rainy evening. Will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Wandered into Bar Botellón on a Friday evening before dinner looking for a drink. Was warmly welcomed by the owners, who quickly educated us on their wine offerings, in addition to their beer and cider selections. We went with a local Syrah, which was surprisingly smooth and very tasty. It was also a pleasant surprise to be offered a small complimentary tapas, reminiscent of my days studying in Granada. Come to find out, the owner spent extensive time in Granada, hence the tapas! Overall, a lovely wine (and more) bar in a welcoming space that evokes the memories and charm of Spain.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
Met a friend here for happy hour and was pleasantly surprised with the selection of wines and beers. Plus the tapas and menu items were just perfect. Chatting with the owner was great and we enjoyed the unpretentious vibes. Highly recommend for a low key yet very nice and comfortable place to hang out.
google avatar

Corey K.

Yelp
This place rocks! Scheduled a date here as I had seen the great write up in Willamette Week. I received a welcome greeting from Alan and Ben as soon as I walked in. I had a glass of the Syrah/Viognier which was so delicious and reasonably priced I bought a bottle to go! The place has a great feel with copper counters and beautiful wood tables. It's the perfect place to stop by to get a bottle to go with great advice from knowledgeable staff or just hang out with friends for a relaxed evening.

Yelp
I visited Bota Bar during its soft opening and was pleasantly welcomed. The wine selection is wonderful, with a range of whites and reds sorted by region and type. The majority of selections are from France, Spain and Oregon, with a few Italian and Australian bottles speckled through. There is also an array of cider and beer in the display fridge and on tap - I didn't even check out the tap wine or glass selections because I found a special bottle straight away. Since I stopped by during the soft opening phase, the space was quiet and mostly vacant. The staff and furnishings made me feel warm and special, with very inviting velvet upholstery and carefully crafted pillows. There's a nice ambiance that will be even more comfortable in warmer weather but I was very comfortable on a rainy, flooded evening. What the space lacked in clamor they made up for in enthusiasm. We were offered complimentary tapas with a basque flair to compliment our bottle of hard to find Vouvray appellation wine. The staff was happy to discuss their expansion plans and the full bar that will be installed shortly while they continue to focus on being wine stewards. I look forward to returning for the grand opening - this will be a wonderful place to visit regularly.

Yelp
Very good value and experience. Wines and taps are well curated. Food offers classic tapas fare. Loved the tin of sardines and amazing tortilla. Bright, airy space with ample opportunity to sit at the bar. Casual, affordable and relaxed. You won't find a better value in inner SE neighborhood.
google avatar

Franco B.

Yelp
What an amazing place! The tapas are wonderful, there is a great selection of wines and beers. Alan was awesome, very social and helpful. If you are looking for a piece of Spain this place is for you!
google avatar

Yelp
Omg. You get a pairing dish with every glass of vivacious wine!!!! I can't believe I just found this place!!! Definitely coming back with ladies!!!
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Such a cool joint. Owners are engaging, laid back, and really intelligent guys. In the few years that this place existed, you can always appreciates place with savvy wine selection, quirky but delicious bites, and great music. Except when the Blazers are on! Chef Ben gets it done...this is a really solid Happy Hour/Off Day No Shit To Do/Watch the Blazers with friend
google avatar

Gregory B.

Yelp
Magical! We came here for a drink and tapas appears. Ordered another round, more tapas. So good! We're coming back soon
google avatar

monique g.

Yelp
Super friendly service. Fun music playing, loud enough to hear it but quiet enough for a conversation. Lots of options on draft (pumpkin saison, lots of wines and beers). Delicious tapa on the house. Today's tapa was a Spanish tortilla with a killer garlic aoili. I will be back!
google avatar

Roxanne L.

Yelp
Cute little spot!! I love the little tapas that are offered per drink order. Allen was very friendly and informative!!
google avatar

Ronica F.

Yelp
I should've looked into this place more before I went. It was listed as a "cidery" but had one cider that tasted like olive juice. They bring little tiny tapas which was nice, but there are no options for an actual meal which was a bummer since we went for dinner.
google avatar

Chuck D.

Yelp
A great expression of a true Tapas bar. Order a glass of wine, whiskey, beer or cider and a wonderful tapas plate arrives with it at no extra charge. We'll definitely be back.

Yuefeng L.

Yelp
It's an amazing place! Very quiet and such a generous owner. High quality drinks at super reasonable price. Each rounds comes with free tapas. Recommended!
google avatar

Reid F.

Yelp
Love this place! How can you not love a place with wine on tap?! You can also purchase bottles of wine to have here or take to go. They also provide delicious tapas with each drink you have. I have celiacs and was able to eat the tortilla espagnol, so it's a great place to come if you are gluten free!

Rob T.

Yelp
I have run by this place many times but today I took the plunge and stopped in . Very friendly hosts , excellent food - a cross between amuse Bouche and bar snacks in the form of tapas. Either way food was delicious . A wide variety of alcoholic options - sake, wines, beer , cider . Definitely a great place in the making
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
We met friends there around 8 for a drink and eats. Lovely atmosphere and wonderful bar and location. My friend and I had not eaten and hoped to get a bite. Was a bit confused with the menu and owner explained one small bite served with each drink was free. Well, I would be under the table quick if I had to keep drinking to get the bites so we ordered a few nibble plates. They were ok but nothing substantial was available. I recommend they just even have one thing on menu for those of us who really need to eat. And put some cushions on those stools! Invites a girl to stay awhile!
google avatar

Rod R.

Yelp
This place felt like an oasis when our car broke down nearby and we waited for a tow truck! Pleased to find Spanish cider on tap. Delicious tapas come with your drink. Nice and knowledgeable owner. Reasonably priced bottles.
google avatar

Kaytie G.

Yelp
I am loving this beautiful new spot! It's wonderful for sharing wine, beer, cider or small plates with a friend. Plus, tasty beverages to-go! The Spanish influence isn't over the top and the selection is awesome. The Food is also very well done.
google avatar

Hunter V.

Yelp
Bar Botellón is a great addition to Lower East B. Nice little bottle shop and bar with a good selection of interesting beers, wines, and ciders - both domestic and international. The bartender was knowledgeable and happy to express opinions without coming across as opinionated, pretentious, or overbearing. The food was good (all tapas style) and I highly recommend the Tortilla Espagna (Spanish-style tortilla). Nearly as good as the one my Spanish aunt makes, which I crave fortnightly. AND, each drink you order comes with a small snack! Sometimes a small serving of a menu item, or maybe something off-menu. Very fun. So order up some wine, beer, cider, or whisk(e)y and see what nibbles come your way!
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
Alan and Ben are amazing! Alan's customer service combined with Ben's awesome Tapas are why my wife and I love this place. Beautiful live edge tables and shelves, and a projector showing current events on their wall. I'd recommend Bar Botellón to any of my friends.
google avatar

Jamoque D.

Yelp
This is a great quiet place for drinks and food. The tapas were outstanding, the staff is friendly and engaging, and they know their selections. Highly recommended.

Mai-Loan N.

Yelp
This place is classic Spanish where you buy a drink and get a little tapa to enjoy. I had a beer, which was really good (the saison IPA) and my friend has a wine! We were given some tortilla which was delicious. I would recommend this if you want a place to get a drink and a little bite.
