Bar Chloe

I don’t usually write negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share what happened at this establishment. I came here to celebrate my birthday with a few close friends, including one who had been told that we were not allowed because I brought my dog. She got back to him, named Tommy, that it was a service dog. Instead of receiving a welcoming or respectful response, we were met with hostility and judgment. He questioned what the dog was for and she asked back if he was legally allowed to ask that question. He responded that he was and she responded to ask me directly since it is concerning me personally The owner took issue with what he called my friend’s “sass”—which in reality was a simple, polite question about accessibility and accommodation for my service animal. Based on that alone, he refused to serve us. On my birthday. Not only was this shocking and hurtful, it was also discriminatory. Denying service because someone asks about a service dog is not only inhospitable, it’s legally questionable. It felt like we were punished for advocating for basic rights. We had hoped for a fun, celebratory night. Instead, we left feeling humiliated and disrespected. I would not recommend this place to anyone who expects basic decency—especially if you’re bringing a service animal or have friends who dare to speak up. Do better.

The best part for me the drinks I don’t care about the price you can feel in the air. What’s going on people if you don’t get it you’re dumb, but I am very special person. I like to spend on a trip like anyone else.

This place was nice and had good drinks. However, the first thing we were told upon walking in was that, if we sat at the couch that fits 5 people (“we” meaning my group of 3 and a random couple we didn’t know), we’d all have to move if a “big group” came in. Seriously? So if a group of 5 comes in, their money is more valuable than our “group” of 5’s money? Tell your employees to welcome customers when they arrive, not tell them when they’ll have to leave before they sat down.

Intimate, cozy space connected to a hotel, open late (till 2am) making it feel like an actual bar. I enjoy their beer selection - limited but all great choices - and their cocktails are pricey but delicious. Also had their calamari in the past, but usually stick to drinks.

Cute place but unfortunately the service was horrendous. The bartender got very aggressive as it got close to closing time and literally kicked us out - and didn’t allow my date to use the bathroom knowing she had a long drive to make.

Let’s say you earn $100K a year and somebody takes away $20K away from you without asking you. How will you feel? That’s what Bar Chloe exactly does - charge you 20% surcharge even if you get a single drink. Bar Chloe - don’t hide it. Write it on your menu upfront and on the top and let people know. Average vibe.

Unfortunately there is an accused Manager of spiking drinks. There has been several accusations and I was one of them. Out of the various places in Santa Monica, it’s not worth that risk anymore.

Lovely drinks and lovely time. My husband and I go back often. It is after all the place where we first met. We were told once that many couples have met and had gotten married after meeting there. I'm not surprised. It's a romantic setting. The building its self feels little bit 'Old Hollywood' romantic. Lights are dim. And drinks are delicious. Perfect setting for a before or after dinner drink. Enjoy Bar Chloe! It's been 6 years since we first met there! We think we may have an anniversary party there.

Great lounge in Santa Monica if you are looking for somewhere that is vibey and actually has well crafted cocktails. It felt sophisticated yet fun which is a difficult mix to come by these days. Highly recommend!

Such a vibe! We stumbled upon this bar as we're strolling and exploring the area! So chic! Great drinks and though we didn't get to try their food because the kitchen was closed it was def. Worth it. Also have great music! And their restrooms are spacious!

Great bar in downtown Santa Monica. Grabbed a mint julep for 12 bucks and a tequila drink with grapefruit for 13. Vibe was really cool dimly lit great music playing. Fantastic spot for a date or a drink before dinner! HH is 630-730

A great bar on 2nd street! The drinks are very artisanal and creative. The ambiance is to die for! It is not the cheapest in terms of drinks but it's a great place to bring friends. The bartenders are always very nice and attentive!

Rather in love with this little spot I was just introduced to! A rather anonymous door is set into the building past the entrance to the hotel. It opened up about 6:03 with a group already starting to form outside. The inside is elegant and muted. Happy hour from 6:30-7:30. Had an amazing craft cocktail from a bartender who shook it like he meant it! Will be back.

I was treated to a space cowboy by Ivan who entertained myself and a number of customers single handedly carrying the bar, I had a perfectly crafted cocktails and quickly poured it is a great experience. The space cowboy is perfect if you like citrus and mint drink this slowly and enjoy the dark ambiance

Favorite bar lounge in Santa Monica. Great drinks, good music (I remember when they had a portable stereo speaker, now it's legit), and friendly staff and just a chill vibe overall. Not many - if any - cocktail bars you can just rely on overall in the area.

Good vibes. The music was chill, they have their own unique drinks, the one I had was similar to a Margarita. Great service. Would recommend. 8/10

Cozy spot for some nice cocktails. Bar Chloe has some nice bar seating as well as couches for bigger groups. The cocktails are well made and they have a very interesting selection. They do put a flat 20% gratuity on the tab but they are very clear when they give you the check.

Bar Chloe is a cute little spot, but why does someone told me that they had a rooftop? The drinks here are amazing but I will say that they do the whole added 20% gratuity just FYI. It's a cozy little spot with the bar and the sofas on the sides. This place is perfect for a cute date night spot or a girls night out.

Great Ambiance, great cocktails, great service, a bit dead while I was there (Thursday night in late summer) though so I'll have to check it out again.

I am very glad my friend and I stumbled across this bar. Right when we walked in, we loved the atmosphere. Everything was very minimalistic and chic. I loved the music playlist that night; they played majority RnB and Hip Hop. The drinks were fantastic! The first drink I ordered was Hotel Nacional, which was so smooth, flavorful, and well mixed. The second drink was the bartender's choice. I wanted something with whiskey, and went with his recommendation. The bartender was very friendly and skilled at his craft. I can't emphasize enough how awesome this place was! I loved the drinks and the environment!

They added a mandatory 20% tip on our bar tab for 2 people and 4 drinks. Never was that disclosed before they charged us. I don't go to places that operate illegally.

Super cute and hidden spot! The interior of this bar has a good feel and the space is quite large with a bar area and quite a few small couches. Dim lightening and dark colored interior create a speakeasy feel. Bar was surprisingly empty (on a Wednesday though). So it's a good spot for an intimate evening and a drink. Highly recommend!

Had a good time here at Chloe. It's a nice cozy lounge with a great atmosphere with good music and good vibes. The cocktails were great and the service was fantastic and friendly. The lounge was quite enough to have a conversation. Definitely a cool after dinner place to hang out and drink with friends.

Great place, cool vibe and great drinks. The bartender was very attentive. They have a wide variety of cocktails as well. Only thing to keep in mind is that they charge a mandatory 20% gratuity on all purchases

Very cute bar to get drinks at. It is a small area so seating can be tricky. But a very nice place to have a date night. All the drinks are well made.

Great vibes and bar tenders in here. I went on a Wednesday evening around 7pm and we beat the crowd. Lovely atmosphere inside and delicious "the last word" with Mezcal. Chefs kiss.

Great spot for a quiet and classy (but not fancy) happy hour. Classic bar food to snack on, well-made drinks from attentive servers, and a good overall dim-lit and comfy vibe. Not a ton of seats and certainly busier on the weekends given the central downtown location, but I like it here. It's a nice respite from the tourists and the promenade and the beach shacks.

I wa shocked walking into this place at 730pm on a Wednesday to find it totally empty. The inside was so cool and speakeasy vibe. Dark couches, mood lighting, candles: it was intimate and cozy yet fancy and fun. The service was quick and thorough and we felt thoroughly tended to in the bar. The drinks themselves were incredible - they really know how to make a cocktail. Great easy to reach location as well!

Crazy quiet nice romantic great bar. Comfortable for a woman by herself. Nice for couples bartender, Ivan who is personable and talented. Great solid , creative, good drinks. Nothing fruity and silly. Departure for the real world

Cute atmosphere, amazing cocktails. This bar tender is paying attention to detail. The calamari was pretty bland even with the dip but the truffle fries were bomb dot com Would like to try other food menu items to tell weather it's good but the drinks were on point.

Great place if you want to have a few drinks and talk with friends without screaming over the loud music. Will be coming back.

It's a great place to go in Santa Monica. The menu is thoughtful and the mixed drinks are made with care. Probably perfect for an intimate date night. I went with a couple of friends and had a tough time having good conversation due to the loud music. And the music that didn't quite match what I would expect considering the overall vibe and decor, but that's all subjective. Overall, I would recommend if you're in the area and looking for a cocktail, but not a place to hang out all night.

Literally the best mixed cocktails I have had in a long while. Ask the bar man Giovanni for his recommendations. You will not regret it!!

Love the drinks but 20% mandatory is fuckery. I am not sure how making four drinks, where we have to go to the bar to order (no service to tables or seats) commends 20%.

I was on the fence about what exactly I was going to rate this, because I know that people work hard to keep places running. I also know that like myself, I want to go to spend my hard earned cash at a place that's worth it. In reality, they have such an amazing happy hour that's hard to beat, that's not even considering that this is the touristy area of Santa Monica, where almost everything is overpriced. So as mentioned, the prices are good during happy hour. The drinks arent the best, as I felt both drinks I tried were a bit diluted. The zesty smell of the drinks though was on another level, a good one. It's not very spacious, even though I like that casual ambiance. I would come back for the happy hour, but not during regular hours.

Used to come here a lot and loved it before Covid. Went last night again and sad to say I will never be coming back. Drinks starts from $14 and they now include a 20% tips in the bill and still have the tips section so people who don't look at their bills closely can tip on top of that. This is straight up greedy and super shady. Also the waiter pretty much threw us out by doing a last call 20 min after we ordered our first drink (almost two hours before their closing time just because there were only two tables). There are plenty of nice bars in the area. Save yourself from the bad experience.

Had a fabulous experience celebrating my birthday here. Laurie , the coordinator was great about timely emails regarding reservations and what I wanted to host as appetizers and dessert. The space itself if classy and a great place to gather friends for a celebration. I absolutely LOVED the cocktail called The Crisp and drank it exclusively throughout the night. The Mac and Cheese is worth the carbs if you're looking for a bite. They also offer quite a few cheeses to choose from for their cheese plate, which was also a big hit! Many of my friends had never been to Bar Chloe before and all were impressed! Which made me, the birthday girl, feel even more special!

Poorly executed daiquiri I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Soooo lemony I felt like it was just lemonade with a hint of rum. The service - subpar, no passion placed into your 20 buck drink. Tip is billed already which is fine. Overall, I'll pass.

It is smaller than I expected but great ambiance and feels intimate and cozy. Seats around the bar area and some tables and couches around. Servers were friendly. Cocktails are tasty. Overall, a nice place to hangout with friends.

Great lowkey spot! Discovered this place on yelp and I was nearby in the area so I decided to come in for a quick drink. Great classy place. They have a nice list of craft cocktails that they make along with a great selection of liquors. The ambiance and environment in here was great. Would be a great date spot for some drinks. There is plenty of seats at the bar area along with couch seating. They also have happy hour which is always a plus. I had the Old Fashioned which was great. Highly recommend.

A nice oasis from the touristy madness of the area. I do love this place. I sometimes wonder how this place stays open given how empty it is every time I go in there, but I'll keep going back as long as they're open for their friendly, attentive staff and excellent drinks. (I just used there/they're/their in a sentence without even trying)

This place was really cool & the service was great! Bar Chloe has a very cool vibe to it with its dimmed lighting, couches, fully stocked bar & decor. We arrived during happy hour so we decided to go for the old fashioned & Moscow mule. Both were perfectly handcrafted by our bartender. We also ordered the grilled cheese for a small bite (it was also on the happy hour menu) & it was great! Not the greatest I've had but I enjoyed it & was satisfied. Would definitely recommend this place to any of my friends. Thanks for the great service! Definitely would come back

Came here on a bustling Saturday evening, and decided to order an old fashioned. The staff was warm, welcoming and friendly, and we were served our drinks promptly. The food was delicious as well, and was prepared fresh by an experienced chef! Would definitely return to this spot when I'm in the area to try out any new cocktails they may be experimenting with. Great place and better location in the heart of downtown Santa Monica!

Romantic and cute This is a hidden gem in Santa Monica. Most people wouldn't stumble in because it looks like a part of Hotel Carmelo. But it's a sweet romantic setting good for locals or people who want to experience Santa Monica without the tourists. It's pretty small and quiet. Good quality, and great for having an actual conversation.

Had a great experience here the other night. A nice lounge that is great to have conversations in. No need to speak up or yell. Can sit either at the bar or there is a good amount of couches you can lounge around on. The selection on whiskey is great. Went with Knob Creek. Bar tenders are very attentive. They also gave me some good recommendations on what to mix my choice of whiskey with. We ended up here because all the other bars in the area were super packed. We parked in the parking lot by the mall. Paid about 5$ for about 3 hours. Do keep in mind that last call is at 11pm. They close up the bar at midnight so make sure to get there early. Super chill bar. Will visit again when I am in the area.

Rude bartenders and overpriced drinks with a 20% mandatory tip! Last night my cocktail was half the glass and when I asked the bartender to give me a full drink he was super rude and refuse to do it!

Atmosphere in this place is not bad. Probably I came in at the wrong time . It was Wednesday evening.Bar was practically empty. Bartender said he will surprise me with spacial drink but I didn't like it at all . I showed him another one from yelp and he said that he has no idea whit is that since someone els did it ... oh well ... I guess It was just wrong day to come in here. Will try it later again probably at busy Friday or Saturday night .

Classy date spot in Santa Monica. Very intimate atmosphere / speakeasy like. Cocktails are more innovative than most and taste above average drinks compared to the rest of town.
