The Biggest D.C.-Area Restaurant Openings in July 2025 | Eater DC

"Opened Friday, July 11 next to Amazon HQ2, this all-day French brasserie from D.C. hospitality brothers Ian and Eric Hilton (H2 Collective) is a larger metropolitan iteration of the original Cafe Colline (2020). Longtime chef Brendan L’Etoile imports top-selling items such as steak frites dunked in béarnaise, croque madame, and duck confit. The space features a 50-foot wraparound bar pouring spritzes, local beers, and wines, plus a daily happy hour with $6 pours of red, white, and rosé from 3–6 p.m." - Tierney Plumb

Big French Bistro Bar Colline Opens in Arlington Near Amazon HQ2 | Eater DC

"An all-day brasserie from D.C. hospitality brothers Ian and Eric Hilton has opened in National Landing (269 19th Court S.), a 14-minute drive away from their original, debuting Friday, July 11 — coincidentally just ahead of France’s Bastille Day on Monday, July 14. H2 Collective’s longtime chef Brendan L’Etoile imports staples from the five-year-old original, including its top-selling steak frites dunked in bearnaise, croque madame, and duck confit, while the much larger footprint — room for 230 guests, a big patio decked out in string lights that seats 40, and a 50-foot wraparound bar — allows the kitchen to add items like chickpea fritters, chilled corn soup, and weekly specials and to accommodate more walk-ins. “We have a larger assortment of smaller plates for a quick lunch-type thing for people who can’t linger and need to get back to their desks,” Ian Hilton tells Eater. A daily happy hour features $6 red, white, and rosé pours from 3–6 p.m., and hours to start are Sunday–Thursday 11 a.m.–9 p.m. and Friday–Saturday 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Ian also reflects on the neighborhood’s transformation: “I remember this area full of government contractors hanging out at nondescript buildings,” says Hilton, of the artist formerly known as Crystal City. “It’s gone through major changes and it’s nice to see people walking around all the time, even in 100 degrees.” Eric — yes, that Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation fame — has stepped back from touring to focus on the brothers’ hospitality business, which is juggling several large projects (including a big new El Rey and the long-term restoration of Potomac’s Normandie Farm: “It’s a labor of love that’s taking a long time to do,” says Ian Hilton)." - Tierney Plumb

Bar Colline is a hidden gem in Arlington! From the moment I stepped inside, I felt transported to a charming European café. The atmosphere is warm, elegant, and beautifully designed—perfect for a relaxing evening or a special night out. I ordered the Chicken Pollard, and it was absolutely divine—perfectly cooked, full of rich flavor, and beautifully presented. My friend had the burger, which had a great char and layers of flavor that really impressed him. Then we both had the French Onion soup and it was FANTASTIC! This spot is an instant favorite, and I’ll definitely be bringing my family back to enjoy it again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an elevated, European-inspired dining experience right in the heart of Arlington!

We were very excited to try the new Bar Colline in National Landing. We’ve been going to Cafe Colline in North Arlington for years and love their food. Bar Colline maintained those high standards in a fresh, open space with plenty of bar, dining room, and outdoor seating. Service was attentive and very helpful: our waitress, Layla, was lovely! Our food was delicious: my son declared the bistro burger the best he’d ever had. We also loved the mussels, chicken paillard, and croquettes. Desserts did not disappoint. We highly recommend the chocolate pots de creme and the creme brûlée. We will be back!

As a local, I have been waiting for this place to open for quite some time. Now that they are, I had to stop by. The menu is succinct and diverse; I ordered the burger and it was quite tasty. The gin and tonic was definitely generous on the gin! This place WILL be a local gem. When the staff get the hang of things and the service improves, there won't be any negatives. The place is beautiful and the atmosphere already had a great energy about it! I LOVE that there are no TVs at the bar! I will be back!

Dinner 7/25. Everything was fantastic. Layla our server was friendly and thoughtful. Solid cocktails. The liver mousse, escargot, and tartare were all top tier but the crispy orange duck was one of the best dishes I’ve had in a restaurant in a very long time. A textbook crème brûlée to finish 🤌🏻

Dinner was perfect! We went for Bastille Day and the food was lovely—very fresh, very authentically French. We lived in Paris for years and this meal rivaled any classic, neighborhood bistro. Can’t wait to go again.

Google
New, beautiful place in Crystal City to bring more life and fun to the neighborhood. The food was solid, burger flavorful and chicken ceasar salad was delicious. Cocktails were super good and on point. The atmosphere was really nice, with a long bar.....perfect for solo diners and perfect for a neighborhood of apartments and office buildings. Now the bad.....service. The bartender was not welcoming, not friendly, unable to enthusiasically share his favorite dishes, zero engagement.......so we ate and left. We walked in and only 2 women were at the bar so it was not busy at all! A second (or third!) round of drinks lost due to not being asked and us wanting to leave. Dessert......handed a menu, no recommendations to tempt us. Would I return? Probably not....neither of us felt welcomed nor appreciated.....and because Bar Chinois was more welcoming and has great HH specials.

Google
Great place for brunch or date night or groups. 200+ place. Free parking around the corner. Extensive bar menu with house cocktails. Patio seating along the alley, but probably better in cooler weather. The birthday room (15 people) looks fun & manager says it’s not too expensive to reserve.

Google
They would not let us add grilled chicken to our salad 😤 did not make sense because they served grilled chicken on other salad. Had to request bread. Then it came without plates for us to prepare it. Requested small plates and our server brought them. They brought everyone else's food, i had to wait and watch everyone eat

Yelp
Just had an excellent happy hour experience here. Free garage parking after 4pm. Sat at the bar and enjoyed a glass of rose, olives, onion soup and the absolute best-tasting cold corn chowder imaginable. Service was impeccable - Brooke and her fellow servers were top notch

Yelp
Had a first meal at Bar Colline. Escargot and Foie volaille. Both good, would have been elevated by better bread. Staff was especially lovely. Friendly, efficient, observant. Nice single occupant restrooms, a very pretty private dining room for events. Interior is very attractive but zero effort spent on sound absorption. I'm sitting 1-2 empty seats away from anyone else at the bar, it's half empty - but I can barely hear the bar tenders from the noise on the restaurant half. A restrained, age mixed, not overfull crowd early on a Sunday evening. If I can't have a nice chat without yelling at my companions I'm unlikely to come back often, which is unfortunate. It is a great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Welcome to National Landing, Bar Colline! We had been anticipating for this restaurant to open, and while we were in the area, we decided to take our chances for a walk-in for an early dinner, and we were able to snag a table seamlessly! We started off with: +the La Cachat - with chevre, honey, lavender, and sweet & sour figs +the Foie de Volaille - chicken liver mousse and madeira gelee +the Soupe a l'Oignon - with gruyere cheese and croutons For our mains, we shared the Bucatini Provencale (prepared with basil pistou, pistachios, cherry tomatoes, and pecorino) and the Steak Frites (hanger steak with a sauce bernaise, served with a side of pommes frites). Staff were friendly and pleasant, and the interior of this restaurant is super cute with its high ceilings and dark wooden decor. I recommend in grabbing a table by the windows so you can people watch while you dine! I'd love to check out their HH in the future. There's metered street garage parking available, all within walking distance. +shareable apps +grab a table by the window +friendly service +metered street & garage parking available

Yelp
If you care about your order being right -- or handled safely when it's wrong -- skip Bar Colline. This was my 2nd time here. I came once for dinner with friends and once for lunch with colleagues. It's conveniently located for all of us, and since it's new, we figured, why not. This experience just took the cake though. I went for lunch with colleagues and simple requests were completely ignored. Two friends said three times they were splitting a burger; each got their own. They had ordered THEIR one burger with no pickles; both got pickles. My friends ended up saying nothing and picking them off. Waitress saw, and said nothing. I ordered a burger with no pickles, no sauce, no lettuce. It came with everything. When I sent it back, the waitress literally brought me the same burger with the sauce wiped off the bun (still on the bottom, lettuce still there). That's not just lazy, it's unsafe. We stayed polite, I chose not to eat the burger, after I took the first bite and realized what she did. Again, she saw, but said nothing We paid in full, and tipped -- but if this is how mistakes are handled, it's only a matter of time before someone with an allergy gets seriously hurt. Really disappointing.

Yelp
We had a great night out with friends checking out the new location in Arlington. We are huge fans of Cafe Colline in N Arlington and Bar Colline didn't disappoint! The menu is similar (favorites like escargot and onion soup are on there!) and everything was delicious. Our server was great and the new space is quite large!

Yelp
Rarely am I this impressed with a restaurant but I think I found my new neighborhood favorite. It has a huge bar top and a lot of seating. The interior isn't flashy, not too trendy or outlandish which really allows the food to shine. AND SHINE IT DID. We got the French onion soup, escargot, steak frites, and bucatini pitsou pasta. Everything was an absolute 10/10. The steak frites do not come cut but I'm okay with that because it gives the steak more time to rest. Steak was juicy and flavorful, pasta was perfectly al dente and fresh, escargot was served with a beautiful puff pastry and the soup was flavorful and not too rich. Service was incredible; attentive without being overbearing. The manager (brian or bryan) stopped over twice and made sure everything was great. I will be back multiple times.

Yelp
I know it opened recently- so hopefully it'll improve. Just a huge meh for the entire meal. And it's pricey so meh isn't good enough. For appetizers we had shrimp croquettes which were dry and flavorless and chicken liver mousse - which was shockingly delicious. For main course, the salmon was decent, the mussels were 5/10...tops. Dessert was middle of the road Staff is still working out the bugs.. that should improve One of the most off putting aspects is the ambience and acoustics. The place is damn loud. It has more of an Outback or Cheesecake Factory vibe than a French bistro. Bottom line: they have some work to do to catch up to other local French restaurants

Yelp
Great spot, clean and refreshing interior. Friendly staff. Food was delicious. It's a great addition to Crystal City that's worth stopping in. Excited to try more of the menu and check out the HH deals.

Yelp
The food was good service was okay but the fact that it was a birthday celebration nobody acknowledged that and it will be asked for a dessert for birthday preferences nobody still said anything about happy birthday to my friend let alone we wanted a dessert to go that could not be accommodated terrible!
