The 14 Best Tapas Spots In Barcelona 2024

"Don’t be fooled by the retro look of this place. The marble-topped counter and classic Catalan geometric floor tiles may mutter “old-man bar,” but the menu full of funky natural wine and seasonal plates couldn’t be more on trend. Try the crispy cocido, croquettes of meat stew, and show-stopping mushroom carpaccio with wasabi and strawberries. One thing you won’t find at Bar del Pla is what locals might refer to as food for guiris, or tourists—things that Catalans wouldn’t order in a bar, like paella or sangria (the servers’ T-shirts that read “f**k sangria, drink natural wine” is a hint). Service is more efficient than affable, but you’re here to eat and drink, not make new friends." - isabelle kliger

19 Best Tapas Bars in Barcelona, From Natural-Wine Bars to Market Stalls | Condé Nast Traveler

"If you ask a group of Barcelonians to name their favorite tapas bars, one spot that will come up over and over again is Bar de Pla. And for good reason; it's one of a few places that has managed to nail the mix of high-quality, affordable food, good wine, and a laid-back atmosphere. Service is more high-energy than chatty – this is a place to grab a seat, eat, drink and leave. The cooking is seasonal and fresh, so it’s worth checking out the daily specials in addition to bestsellers like the squid-ink croquettes, the mushroom carpaccio with wasabi vinaigrette, and the Iberian pork blade." - Isabelle Kliger

Barcelona’s Best Restaurants in the Gothic Quarter, El Born, and El Raval - Eater

"Tapas with a twist: Think shaved mushrooms with wasabi sauce and strawberries next to thumb-length croquetes. The four (yes, four) sommeliers here have a particular interest in natural and biodynamic wines and have put together a selection of the ones they love most. One of them, Sergi Ruiz, was the winner of the local Nas d’Or (Golden Nose) prize in 2014." - Suzy Taher

During our vacation in Barcelona, we had the chance to Lunch at Bar del Pla, and it was without a doubt one of the culinary highlights of our trip. We sampled nearly the entire menu, and each tapa was better than the last — bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and showcasing the best of Catalan cuisine with a creative twist. What truly elevated the experience, however, was the wine — and our fantastic server Gabriel. He guided us through a selection of exceptional natural wines, all from the region, and every recommendation came with a detailed explanation that reflected both deep knowledge and genuine passion. His suggestions paired perfectly with the dishes and made the whole Lunch even more memorable. The atmosphere was lively yet intimate, and the combination of outstanding food, incredible wines, and warm, personalized service made this an unforgettable Lunch. A huge thank you to Gabriel and the team at Bar del Pla! ❤️

THE best meal I have had in a very long time!! The queue is worthwhile. If you have to pick one place to eat in Barcelona this is the one! Staff are so lovely and the wine compliments all the food so so well 😊

We were lucky enough to score 2 nights at Bar de Pla in a week’s trip to Barcelona. We tried to eat the menu and everything was delicious. Service was fast and furious. Reasonably priced and certainly some authentic Spanish Tapas offered. Quality was great both nights.

Google
Good food and atmosphere but not many choices to eat, the menu is not like restaurants, it has small and a few dishes. Bravas potatos had too much oil and they was with tomato sauce not the traditional one with mayo and garlic.

Google
A tough table to get with a group, but always delivers. Bar Del Pla is located within the maze-like alleys of El Gotic, and simply oozes with history and ambiance. The food is very good, and you know it’s fresh as they often run out of dishes later in the evenings. The service was impeccable during our visit and we never felt out of sorts despite bringing children to a 10:00pm sit down. Spain is special that way. I highly recommend this place.

A Cozy Gem in Barcelona Tucked away near the Picasso Museum, Bar del Pla is a true hidden gem in Barcelona’s El Born district. This cozy restaurant perfectly captures the essence of a traditional Spanish tapas bar, with its warm ambiance, friendly staff, and a lively yet intimate atmosphere. One of the standout dishes here is their artichokes, beautifully crispy on the outside and tender inside, seasoned with a delicious red sauce that adds just the right amount of tangy richness. It’s the kind of dish that keeps you coming back for more. Beyond the artichokes, Bar del Pla offers a fantastic selection of tapas, from fresh seafood to melt-in-your-mouth Iberian ham, all paired with a great wine and vermouth list. The quality of the ingredients and the care put into each dish make every bite a delight. Whether you’re looking for a casual bite after exploring the Picasso Museum or a full-on tapas feast, Bar del Pla is the perfect spot. It’s a place where locals and visitors come together over great food in an authentic setting, making it a must-visit in Barcelona.

Google
For my wife and me, who always travel with a "foodie-first" mindset, this place was truly a special restaurant. Out of our 12-night trip across Spain, this was one of only two places we visited more than once (the other one was in Seville)—which says a lot already. We first went for a lunch reservation, and we were so impressed with the food, atmosphere, and service that we immediately booked a second visit for later that same day—even though the only available slot was 10:30 PM, which is super late by Korean standards. But we didn’t hesitate and just said, “Let’s go for it!” One of the highlights of this spot is their genuine passion for NATURAL WINE. The staff wear uniforms with the bold slogan "F*** SANGRIA, DRINK NATURAL WINE" printed on the back, and the wine selection lives up to that attitude. Even when ordering by the glass, we got to explore at least 6 different reds and whites. Despite how busy they were, the servers brought 2–3 options over, explained them in detail, and even let us taste each one before deciding—seriously, I’ve never had that kind of experience before. I literally said, “Is this even real?! Viva España!” The food was overall excellent, with some signature dishes that really stood out. Despite the painful €1 = 1,630 KRW exchange rate, the prices felt totally fair for the quality. The interior is stylish and lively without being overwhelming—a great balance of energy and warmth. And last but not least, a big shout-out to JUDIT, who took such wonderful care of us both times. I'm leaving this review a bit late, but we were so grateful for her kindness. Thanks to you, our very first day in Barcelona was absolutely perfect. This restaurant is one I truly recommend. If we ever come back to Barcelona, we’ll definitely return—maybe not just twice, but three times!

Absolutely unforgettable. I’ve truly never eaten better in my life — every bite was perfection. The flavors, the quality, the care in each dish… just wow. A culinary experience I’ll be dreaming about for a long time.❤️❤️

Yelp
Locals spot for sure. If you're an over weight American with a southern accent, you may not get seated as this delicious abode caters to locals or tourists who speak spanish or look local. The food was delish to the very last morsel & the vermouth cool perfection for only 3 euros. Loved the energy of this place.

Liz M.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Everything we tried I would definitely get again. The tomato bread was out of this world. We also got the mussels, croquettes, roast beef salad, and tripe and veal. The waiter was super friendly and helpful with everything. It's a small place so make sure to make reservations for this place.

Yelp
Where do I begin? The best places are often the small, unassuming ones, and Bar del Pla embodies that perfectly. Though it's small, it has a very cozy and homely feel. The atmosphere is laid back, the tapas are impressive, and the wine selection is extensive. The service is consistently excellent; the staff knows the menu inside out and can expertly recommend wine pairings. During our stay in Barcelona, we visited Bar del Pla at least three times in four days--that's how good it is. Now back in Miami, I find myself wishing we had a little place like that here. I miss it and can't wait to return.

Yelp
Refreshing beers on tap, yummy tapas, and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend the mushroom with wasabi dressing!! One of the best bites of the trip! The meat croquette and crudo were yummy as well! Definitely will be back if we ever return to Barcelona.
google avatar

Yelp
This was one of our best impromptu stops in Barcelona. We left the Picasso museum and it was raining so we found the closest bar/restaurant. What a find! We had a great bottle of red wine - Femme d'Argeni. We also had the tomato bread (the best one I've had one this trip!!), sea bass ceviche, and mushrooms with wasabi sauce. All of it was amazing! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Bar del pla used to be good. We've been coming here for a few years now and this is probably my last time just because I see the way this restaurant is headed. After it started getting busier service changed. Service is Bad! Bad attitude and little customer care or attention. Food that never came to our table do to waitress errors and no cares.... usually, I don't care about some mistakes, but this was so bad.it is unacceptable. I know my reviews may not make a big impact, but I hope to reach people who run this business and have them see what it is going on with their employees towards customers. The food is still really good. So I guess sacrifice service for a good meal.... may be Not. Never again bar del pla.

Yelp
My favorite tapas place I tried hands down. Literally the best patatas bravas. The steak tartare was amazing v the oxtail: amazing. The spinach and cheese croquettes AMAZING. the mushrooms with wasabi was such a pleasant surprise. I would try everything on their menu. The only miss for me was the tuna tartare because it was a little too fishy in my opinion. Otherwise, great food, amazing service, very affordable pricing, lots of natural wines to try, and great vibes. Definitely stop here if you're in Barcelona.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant in a long time! So glad we visited - we went 2 months ago and have already sent 2 other parties for dinner both of whom came home with rave reviews. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The back of their shirts said "F*#% Sangria. Drink natural wine" - love it. We had a local orange wine that was fantastic! Worked perfectly on its own as well as with the assortment of dishes we tried. An absolute must visit when in Barcelona!

Mona K.

Yelp
Excellent spot in the Gothic quarter. I was able to walk-in without a reservation. It was lively and I like how they try to source sustainable products. Highly recommended. Ask the team what's best because they change items often.

L W.

Yelp
This was a lovely and welcoming place to enjoy an absolutely fantastic meal. Don't ask for Sangria! Or do but be sure to look at the back of waitstaff's t-shirts first. The food is amazing! Tomato bread, salad with figs and beets--I didn't even know I liked beets. Move out of your comfort zone and enjoy all this place has to offer.

Nora A.

Yelp
Delicious food and fun vibe. The cauliflower and mackerel were delicious. Service was a bit slow but the experience overall was great.
google avatar

Liz P.

Yelp
Wow! The food was fantastic and the staff too! Highly recommend. We had the tomato bread, spinach and cheese croquettes, ham and cheese croquettes and chicken cannellini. All excellent. The staff are so friendly.
google avatar

Liz S.

Yelp
As a vegetarian on vacation, it's been easy to eat all over Barcelona. At the very least, potatoes, gazpacho, tomato bread, and veggies are everywhere. However, Bar del Pla was such a delight!! The tomato bread and patatas bravas was good....the gazpacho was excellent!!! Nice texture elements added to it. The amazing dishes though were the zucchini flowers, mushroom with wasabi, and Eggplant made without the sardines. They were all AMAZING!!! I will definitely be back on my next trip through Barcelona
google avatar

Yelp
Another nice spot for tapas in the Bari Gothic. Like many tapas bars in this city, this place has a narrow store front with two stark looking stools outside that are magically always occupied (the residents here seem undeterred by winter weather from eating and drinking outside with no heaters). That's how you know it's good. Anyway, we hit up Bar de la pla after a day of visiting museums in the nether hours between lunch and our 8:00 pm early bird European dinner. I think the place had just opened for tapas hour because it was pretty empty when we arrived but then proceeded to get packed. We got seated right away at the bar and enjoyed a few classics with some cava and vermouth. I thought their patatas bravas were fantastic. They also have some tapas that beyond the traditional fare, like the tempura cauliflower which was also delicious.
google avatar

Chelsea Y.

Yelp
Came here twice in our short 4 day trip to Barcelona because the food, wine, service were all so good. Don't pass on the spinach croquetas, patatas bravas. Excellent wine knowledge and can give great recommendations. They clearly take pride in the wine they serve.
google avatar

Yelp
Went here on our first meal on Barcelona and it did not disappoint! Make a reservation as it gets very busy. Must try when in the city!
google avatar

Michael Z.

Yelp
Well on our final night in Barcelona, a colleague suggested Bar del Pla, and it was a highlight of our trip. Tucked in an alley, there was a great vibe, and our server Sandra was just plain awesome. We all thought she was the epitome of someone who loved her job and it showed. The food was great, especially the mussels and the roast beef. We loved Barcelona and will be going back to Bar del Pla when we return
google avatar

Yelp
genuinely a life changing experience. the BEST tapas i have ever had in my life. i would go back to barcelona JUST to visit this restaurant again. i actually want to try every single thing on the menu because everything we ordered was 11/10 delicious. BEAUTIFUL plating, fresh and unique flavors, and overall amazing vibes and service. do call ahead and make a reservation because they get booked out. my life and taste buds have been permanently altered from bar del pla.
google avatar

Leanne M.

Yelp
Favorite spot in Barcelona. Tomato bread was heaven. We ordered 3 tapas for 2 of us and didn't eat it all. So good. Can't wait to go back.

Hadley B.

Yelp
Wonderful tapas bar with friendly and informative servers. We had the cauliflower tempura, mushrooms and wasabi, patatas bravas, all outstanding. Great wine recommendation from our server.

Brad B.

Yelp
Reviewing pictures from our trip and this place was great! Close to the Picasso museum so you can get q aquick bite. We had the mushroom and strawberry salad which I still make. Great service. And it's Barcelona...great ambiance!

Rafael G.

Yelp
Food was very good. Seems to be an issue with reservations. They give short periods to eat and turn away many people. However, I just saw some friends without reservations get seated right away (they didn't know I spoke the language). Interesting, but what can you do.
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
Generous wine pours and quality patata bravas. This place was on our list to try and did not disappoint. We started with the tomato salad w/ tiger nut and an unexpected player two: watermelon! Loved it. Then we had probably our favorite patata bravas in Barcelona. The roast beef, an unique Spanish tapas, blew our minds with its mélange of flavors. Not sure what that green chopped fruit was but it complimented the dish well. Flavorful explosions from the peppers. The only not-quite-as-good was the albondigas with squid. A tad bit too seafoody (I love seafood) and tough. Overall a great experience and amazing staff.
google avatar

Yelp
Ok people, Listen and Listen Close! If you happen to find yourself in Barcelona (say it with lisp) or don't say it all... Hop on over to Bar del Pla. While visiting this beautiful city back in April 16', we had to kill sometime while waiting for our call time reservation at the Picasso Museum up the street. We decided, why not get a little tapas and vino into our system and live like the Spaniards do! We walked in and were graciously seated at the bar and we let the good times roll. Patatas Bravas...Check Croquetas de jamón...check Assorted olives & Deep fried artichokes...double check Spanish Red wine...priceless! Not sure what it is, but Europeans, specifically the Spaniards know what they are doing. Food Prices are cheap, the wine is great, and they do not rush you or bring you the bill until you ask for it. Life here is easier, less rushed and the experience pays for itself. If you find yourself in this part of the world, do yourself a favor and check this place out. Come in happy, guarantee you will leave happier. Salud!
google avatar

Joanne R.

Yelp
Delicious food. Food comes out really fast and the servers were friendly but seem to not be very bothered about checking on tables. Make sure to make a reservation if you plan on coming around 7.30-9 pm! They're busy and turn away people very often.
google avatar

Kyle F.

Yelp
Great tapas as expected, fun atmosphere. They are wine purists, upon entrance the T-shirts for sale will explain this . We had good service at the bar and found a spot during a busy late lunch rush!

Tillie W.

Yelp
Incredible atmosphere, great food (especially the patatas bravas, roasted duck cannelloni, steak tartar w/ foie gras, and the squid and meatballs in squid ink). Gracious waitress who spoke great English and gave delicious recommendations.
google avatar

Rebecca T.

Yelp
There are endless options for tapas in Barcelona, but there's a reason why Bar del Pla is both a tourist and local favorite. My family actually chose to dine at Bar del Pla because it was recommended in our Barcelona tour book. We were not disappointed! The variety of tapas, in addition to how unique and flavorful each tapa was, resulted in a fun and very pleasant dining experience that everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed. We ordered the tuna tarte, mushroom and wasabi, squid ink balls, octopus balls, beef tarte, oxtail, mackerel fish, lamb burger, and smoked sardines (coca). Out of these, the fan favorites were the tuna tarte, the beef tarte, mushroom and wasabi, and smoked sardines (coca). The beef tarte is a must try - it was a dish that completely overwhelmed our taste buds in the best way possible, both in texture and flavor. They were very tourist-friendly. They provided us with a menu that was entirely in English and had someone who was fluent in English take our order. If you've traveled in Barcelona, you know how helpful an English menu can be. Our food was brought out promptly and was spaced out so each tapa had a moment of attention. They are located near the Picasso Museum, only a few minutes walking distance apart. They also serve beer on tap and various wines. Staff was friendly and dining ambiance was nice yet casual. With only a few days in Barcelona, my family was very picky with our selection of tapa restaurants but Bar del Pla was definitely one of our favorites!
google avatar

Hailey P.

Yelp
We popped in here after an afternoon of shopping through the cute alleyways of Barcelona. It is located in the heart of the city where most of the adorable boutiques are and so many fun things. We weren't super hungry but were in the mood for a beer or wine and some munchies! They served olives with our drinks and then we ordered their toast with tomato and oh my goodness, while this is a very popular appetizer in Barcelona, we can honestly say that Bar del Pla had the BEST version that we tried! The service was friendly and we loved the ambiance, it was cozy with a long bar right as you enter and tables in the back. It makes the perfect spot to relax with a cold one after lots of walking through the city! Or if you're there in the cooler months like we were, it is a great place to warm up.

Carmen P.

Yelp
The staff was awesome. We had read a few reviews for good recommendations and our waiter offered a few more. We were four and had 6 tapa plates. They were delicious! The tomato bread as delicious. Ham croquettes, patatas brava, picana and the oxtail were delicious. The house wine was perfect. The perfect Barcelona experience!
google avatar

Sal P.

Yelp
Catalan tomato bread. This is an amazing treat. A thin rustic bread with ripe tomatoes smushed on top, excellent evoo, and some sea salt then baked. Crunchy crust with just a few natural flavors. Delicious. The blistered shishito peppers. First place I ever had them and still good. And the squid ink croquettes. Never had anything like this. Bits of squid and squid ink inside a slightly crunchy shell. So good. They also had a shredded duck croquette that was really really good too and glad I listened to the suggestion. I ended with a main course of a grilled octopus with a late and another sauce that I couldn't place but was so good. Octopus cooked perfectly tender and tasty. I haven't been to Barcelona in almost 4 years and was so hoping nothing changed and it didn't. Same fun atmosphere, not pretentious but more a "Cheers" like atmosphere and can't beat the good food. Can't wait to make it back.

Robert H.

Yelp
Amazing vibe and food. Servers are nice and bilingual. Great wine selection also. Get the mushroom/wasabi dish.
google avatar

janet s.

Yelp
My favorite for tapas in BCN. Mushrooms are heaven -- great service as always. Love it
google avatar

T S.

Yelp
Super cool, funky vibe. Servers are super knowledgeable on both food and wine. Innovative take on traditional Catalan tapas was refreshing and soulful. We had the beetroot salad, which exploded with flavour and jolted our tastebuds awake. Perfectly seasoned pan con tomate, those of you in search for the perfect tapa of this dish, look no further. Albóndigas with squid, mmmm, mmmm, mmmm, make sure to order pan to sop up all the broth!
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
Such a charming place with great staff . By far the best thing we ate ( and we ordered a second round) was the tomato bread. So simple yet so outrageously good . The mushrooms with wasabi were really good and very unique- raw and sliced paper thin with a wasabi sauce garnished with strawberry . The patatas bravas had a sauce that tasted sweet . We did not care for the tomato watermelon salad but the wine was very affordable and delicious !
google avatar

Wook K.

Yelp
Best patatas in town. Highly recommend this place in Barcelona!! It also has really good wine and beer of your choice.
google avatar

Claire J.

Yelp
Two recommendations- the duck croquettes and the cannelloni. Will definitely be back to Bar del Pla!

Victor A.

Yelp
The specials are excellent and and the steak was perfect. The hostesses were super friendly even when we showed up without a reservation. It helps it was just two of us and it was early. Be sure to grab a reservation!
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Mushrooms and wasabi and zucchini flower were to die for! They were only taking reservations, but the waitress was able to accommodate us and get us a seat at the bar. Would highly recommend to anyone that travels to Barcelona.
google avatar

Dee M.

Yelp
We arrived around 5PM just looking to have a few drinks. We tried their house vermut (called Psicodèlic). It was the best we've had in Spain yet. (We spent a great portion of our time at Bar del Pla plotting how to ship a case of it back to the US). We tried both Mushrooms with Wasabi (basically raw mushroom carpaccio with shaved Parmesan and wasabi sauce-- amazing!) and Steak Tartare with foie gras (also incredible). We will be back, for sure!
google avatar

Leah C.

Yelp
One of the first restaurants my friends and I ate at in Barcelona! Saw the reviews and thought why not try it? We loved their patatas Bravas that we still to this day talk about and it's been 4 months later! Very small tapas platters but delicious no complaints just wish we knew how tiny they would be for the price we were paying! Not expensive just not exactly cheap! Great place for tapas and our waitress was incredible!!
google avatar

Kent E.

Yelp
Great little place. Food was very good. Staff nice. Would go back. Apps and entree great
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
This has become a go to. The servers are very friendly and the food and wine has been great. We've recommended it to our friends when they visit and they have always had great things to say.
google avatar

Gu Ming P.

Yelp
Le Pla was recommended by a local wine shop, so we figured why not, "best tapas hands down" so I figured YES! Got to the restaurant early Thursday 6PM, we were turned away the last night 1-hour wait so we calibrated. Why 3 stars? Food was good, service was good, location, ambiance price was also good, nothing was particularly memorable. I would stay away from the king prawn (shrimp sushi with mayo unless you like sushi in BCN). Mushroom croquette - lacking texture, good taste but not too successful. Oxtail + foie gras - too greasy (i know even for a dish with foie gras). Good wine, good people, I's recommend another place.
google avatar

Caroline W.

Yelp
Service and food were good. We ordered: 1. Squid ink croquettes - very unique and tasty 2. Smoked sardines "coca" - good but nothing extraordinary 3. A refreshing salad - good complement to our other more savory dishes 4. Octopus bombs - this was my least favorite, lacked flavor and seemed like a waste of calories 5. Crispy oxtail with foie gras - this was my favorite, oxtail was tender and was delicious paired with foie gras Overall, good restaurant and would come back.

Audrey Y.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants I have visited while in Barcelona. Off the bat, the ambiance here was very nice. The servers are chill and talkative, and makes you feel very welcomed. In addition, they all speak Catalan, Spanish, and English. Initially, we were skeptical of the place since it was full of tourists (including ourselves), but the food did not disappoint. I'm not entirely sure how traditional the food here is but nonetheless their take on dishes were amazing. We got patatas bravas, and although it was our first time trying it, it exceeded our expectations. The crispy oxtail was indeed crispy and so tender. Added bonus is that they remove the bone so it is very easy to eat this. The foie also added some great flavoring to the dish. The meatball and squid ink were also very good. The meatballs were tender and paired well with the squid ink sauce. Although we initially got a ration of bread for the oxtail and foie, we ended up dipping the bread in the leftover squid ink and bravas sauce. We wanted to try the croquettes here but they were disappointing so we just suggest not to get. The chicken was a bit dry in the croquette, and although we love how you could taste the truffle in the cheese croquette, the filling itself was cold.
google avatar

Kristen P.

Yelp
This place is in the gothic quarter. It was very quaint but they had a wide selection of wine. Our bartender made recommendations based on what type of wine we wanted. Just stopped for one glass here, prices were reasonable.
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
One of the best meals of the trip, and the some of the craziest and most creative dishes. Shown in my pictures are the 'must haves' for your meal: a salad of mushroom, strawberries and wasabi, squid ink and potato croquettes, oxtail and foie gras. We also had beef cheeks in red wine, cannaloni pasta, ham croquettes and dessert! I recommend pairing everything with the natural selection house red wine - You will not disappointed! The waitstaff was wonderful as well - We we're seated at 8:30 pm and stayed until 11:30 pm. Absolutely no pressure to rush our meal and we ended with some fabulous sherries as well. This stop was recommended to us by a local and I can't rave about it enough!

Gewoo S.

Yelp
An absolute must. What's good here? Almost everything. I wish I could say "everything," but then again, their menu does tend to change just as their wine list does. Besides the staples such as croquetas, patatas bravas and pan con tomate, one of my favorite tapas here are the refreshing wasabi mushrooms. If you want something light with a bit of a kick to go with all the heavy and meaty tapas, those are it. The place itself has a very cozy and lively atmosphere. It's always packed with people (both locals and visitors) so expect to see a line out the door, but it's so worth the wait.
