Bar El Comercio - Review - Casco Antiguo - Seville - The Infatuation

"Your search for the unsurpassed churro begins and ends at Bar El Comercio. This crowded tapas bar in the middle of Casco Antiguo has a full tapas menu that includes tortilla española and montaditos, but their flex is the textbook-perfect churros, paired with a cup of steaming, decadent chocolate. Legend has it these are some of the best churros in Spain, and while we might not go that far, they’re certainly the best in Seville. There’s usually a wait to be seated, and it can get a bit claustrophobic, so be patient. The lines move fast, and watching them make the churros in a huge cauldron of bubbling oil is a crash course on longstanding Spanish traditions. Since churros are perfectly reasonable breakfast food, no one will judge you when you spring for a huge plate of them first thing in the morning." - Aileen Weintraub

Visited for the famous churros and the portions were absolutely massive. They’re a little on the savoury side, but paired perfectly with the rich chocolate sauce for much needed sweetness. A great bar for an afternoon treat, with very reasonable prices. The only downside is that they don’t allow you to share the bill, so worth keeping in mind if you’re visiting with a group.

Stepping into this place feels like a throwback to old-school charm, especially during Christmas when it’s beautifully decked out and full of cozy vibes. For couples, I’d absolutely recommend keeping it simple — just a plate of their churros and a cup of thick hot chocolate. That’s all you need. But we went one step further and bought an el comercio sandwich which was yum and delicious .. The churros are hands-down some of the best you’ll have, crisp on the outside, soft and airy inside, and perfect for dipping. You’ll walk out warm, happy, and wearing the biggest grin 😋

I find it hard to believe that this is my first pit stop here. Walked past many times in the last 20 years. People queue up for their morning home made churros with hot chocolate. Casta and Albrecht spotted the house vermouth at 1.90€. Very good. Walk past the narrow bar space to a good sized rear room. Very traditional bar.

Google
Recommended by locals for the best Churros and chocolate this place is small and intimate and there may be a queue but its well worth the wait. The churros and chocolate made fresh and as authentic as it gets. Come early and expect the wait which you will realize is necessary and the norm for a legendary breakfast place in Sevilla.

Wonderful authentic atmosphere. Staff are friendly and the service is quick. Not only the churros with hot chocolate, but also their house vermut and vino de naranja de casa were excellent. You can either sit inside to enjoy or use the takeaway window, definitely worth a stop!

Google
This is a renowned Churros Vermuteria tapas bar close to Las Setas de Sevilla and a must visit place if you like sweet wines. With over 120 years in operation you are suddenly transformed into a local. It is a casual place, gets really busy sometimes but service is efficient and kind. It is completely worth it and prices for the Vermouths and Sherries are very low, so watch out or you will go out of there a little tipsy. I completely recommend the place and only reason I do not give it 5 stars is due to the fact the place is just too casual. But I will go back in my next visit for sure.

Google
Overrated churros. I thinks it is a social media lie. Churros were not that good. Chocolate sauce was so bad. It taste like hot chocolate. Not a sauce. I wont try it again. I dont recommend. The inside was good. Decoration is nice authentic. Coffe was okey.

Google
Visited for some lunchtime tapas. Very busy so had to wait around 15 minutes, which wasn't an issue as we stood at the bar for a drink. Tapas was very nice and a a treat for my father in law we ordered the churros. They were a little crispy and very greasy, but going by the amount of people ordering them, I'd say they are a popular order here. Vermouth was amazing. Nice authentic place to visit.

Yelp
If you're looking for a traditional breakfast spot with heart, this is it! Family-owned and full of charm, this place serves up freshly made churros that are worth every bite--and every moment watching them come to life. It's honestly just as fun to watch the churros being made as it is to eat them! They offer the classic option of churros with hot chocolate for dipping (which looked amazing), but I preferred mine simply dusted with a bit of sugar--crispy, warm, and perfect. You can really taste the love and tradition in every bite. A must-visit for anyone who wants a truly authentic experience to start their day.

Yelp
We decided after trying here we like the thicker churros over the thin ones. Three options: take away, eat at the counter, or seated tables inside. We chose counter which was fairly quick to service. Churros came out piping hot crispy on outside, soft inside. Accompanied of course by the chocolate. Coffee was good too and hot. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This review is purely for the churros y chocolate. You walk in and the environment is a little hectic as it seems everyone in the city wants the churros from this iconic spot. We were quickly served piping hot churros and a large cup of dipping chocolate. It was everything I imagined and then some in terms of taste. A true must-try when in Seville. Our waitress was also joking with us and excited to see me react to trying my first real churro. If you want to try a real authentic churro in Seville then El Comercio has to be on your list!

Yelp
These are the best churros in Spain (I enjoyed them here more than Chocolateria San Ginés in Madrid). The main reason is because they come out so hot and fresh here. The churros here are bigger versions that remind me of youtiao (if you're familiar with this Chinese donut). It's airy, fluffy, and crispy. The chocolate gives it a nice sweetness, which isn't overly sweet either. The churros (€2.50 for 4pcs) and chocolate (€3) are a great pairing to dine in or take out. They have a cute box for take out to enjoy while walking around too. There isn't much of a menu, but they know you're here for the one and only churro with chocolate.

Yelp
We had churros many times during our Spain trip and my favorite was our first time trying them at El Comercio! We stopped by Friday afternoon around 1 pm and it wasn't too busy. We opted to sit inside and eat them fresh. They have other food as well, such as tapas dishes and hot sandwiches, but we were here only for the churros. We got a coffee (1.60€) as well as an order of churros (2.50€) and hot chocolate (3€). Our churros came out super quickly, within minutes of ordering, and we immediately dug in. I really liked the churros here. They were more chewy than crispy. I was also pleasantly surprised by how thick the "hot chocolate" was and how it wasn't too sweet. I dipped each churro bite very generously in the chocolate and it was the perfect amount of sweetness. While we were waiting for the churros, I walked up to the bar and watched the cook make them. It was really fun to watch him swirl the batter in the oil.

Yelp
This place is often ranked as one of the top places for churros in Sevilla. We had a delicious breakfast of fresh made churros and hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is more like melted chocolate than the typical one that I'm used to but it's delicious. They serve some sandwiches and other beverages but why would you do that. We ate in at one of the 40ish seats. There was a short line when we arrived but it moved quickly. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I visit the area, again.

Yelp
These churros are an out of body experience. Nestled in a busy street in Seville lurks the center of the churro universe. Put aside all notions of Costo even Dodger stadium, these churros are freshly fried, individually mind you and served piping hot, with NO SUGAR!! They are meant to be dipped in chocolate. Our rookie mistake was passing on the chocolate and they tasted bland. Don't make the mistake we did. Go Chocolate!!

Yelp
OMG I fell in love with the bread and tomato topping and churros as well. Long long lines to get into this place, packed with locals and tourists alike. It's a short walk from most attractions. The flavors are outrageously good. I hit this place every morning I could. Update: years later and I still crave this place. Tried to replicate the flavors of bread and tomatoes. Not sure what their simple secret is but I miss it

Yelp
Not the friendliest of places it seems, at least to tourists. The churros are indeed amazing. However, that's the only thing you should eat there. Tried a few tapas and none of them were any good. Wish we can have churros like these in the States, instead of covering them up with sugar and cinnamon... They wouldn't take our card blaming the machine, but I think they probably didn't want to take it...

Yelp
Our first time was at the takeout window. It's so busy. We ordered two servings of Churros and Hot Chocolate. We wanted to seat after we got our order but the staff stated you already said takeout . We enjoyed our Churros on the street. It was like a hot fresh fried dough stick that you dipping thick hot chocolate. The textures were perfect together. The second time , we went to wait inside. The staff is so busy that you just have to wait for a free table . Once a table was available the staff cleaned and point us to our seat. The Churros and hot chocolate came out fresh and hot. It was better then our first time. Overall, it's worth all the trouble to get it

Yelp
This was probably my favorite churros that I had in Spain. I had come earlier that day around 2pm but was told that they didn't have churros until 5pm. I didn't understand why but I didn't ask either. We came around 8:30pm and they said that they were closing but luckily they were fine with us ordering churros con chocolate and ate it at the standing bar. Wow! The chocolate was delicious and the churro was fried perfectly. It didn't feel oily either. Since they were closing, we didn't get a chance to try their other food but the many items I've walked by- it's always been busy so I'm sure the food here is good.

Yelp
My favorite place for churros and local ambiance in Seville. Spent a few days in the city and kept coming back here. Always busy, with servers/cooks shouting orders at each other, clanking plates and espresso machine noises, along with locals standing at the counter, eating churros, talking in Spanish. There's also table service in the back. If you're a tourist and want some local flavor, this is the place to go. They some breakfast items, as well as tapas after 1pm. Bathrooms: One single-occupancy bathroom in the back. May have to wait in line.
google avatar

Yelp
Only one woman was waiting on all the tables and despite being so overwhelmed she was really bright and pleasant. Churros and chocolate are about 6 euros which is what they're known for. The churros were pretty oily and the chocolate was darker and very liquidy compared to others I'd had around the country. The amount you get is enough for two people. These guys were the only place in Seville that I noticed had croquettes that were vegetarian. Alas I had to run to get a train so I wasn't able to order them. For English speakers, I didn't try speaking a single word of English here so I couldn't tell you if they can understand/speak it. Do yourself and everyone a favor and learn how to ask for a table, water, order, and the check in Spanish. They have a bathroom if needed.

Yelp
The wait is long, but turnover is pretty quick. Some folks like eating at the bar, we'd rather wait for a table, and enjoy the warm chocolate and churros. The most excellent tasting churros, dipped in the chocolate, make the best tasting ones of all!

Yelp
Best churros in town, authentic hangout spot, don't miss your chance it is worth it!!!!

Yelp
Tried churros, jamon and sangria. Churros was okay, nothing special compared to other places i have eaten. Jamon was expensive i thought, for a plate they charged me 12 bucks. Not as good as the iberian jamon. Sangria was not fresh, and very acidic. Overall perfect example of TOURIST TRAP!
google avatar

Yelp
Charming bar, the ambiance is nice. We had the 3 piece churro and hot chocolate. These are not your traditional cinnamon sugar churro so beware. The hot chocolate is also not what you'd be served in the US but instead has a think consistency perfect for dipping your churros. We were there for a while and ended out visit with their delicious and refreshing sangria. The service was quick and efficient however, some of the bartenders are a bit dry and can coke off as rude. Overall our visit was pleasant. Must try if you're in Sevilla.
google avatar

Yelp
I think one serving of churros and chocolate is enough for me while in Sevilla, so we opted to have it here since it is well-known for it. The churros are fried dough, but not sweet like in the US. The chocolate dipping sauce is not too sweet and good quality chocolate. It's a nice combo, and the churros are super hot, made on the spot for you. Fried dough isn't one of the things I crave though. If you do, you'll love it. We did not try any of the tapas here, though they do offer it.

Yelp
People come here for the fresh churros (porras really) con chocolate but we made a little snack stop out of it. Had the porras, a couple of simple tapas, fresh orange juice, and coffee. All 3 of us agreed the coffee was amazing! And it was fun to watch the process of the porras being made

Yelp
We had to try it since the reviews were so great. When we went in the late afternoon, it was closed so we explored around the area for another 40 min and saw a line forming and rushed to get in line for their reopening at 5 (I think). People were joking chanting for it to open. When it finally did, it didn't live up to the reviews. Some people walked deeper inside the store to be seated and some stayed outside for to go (they call it "take away") ordering. Because there were so many people waiting they had premade boxes lined up ready to give with each purchase so the churros weren't hot for the to go order at least. The dark chocolate dip was too liquidy for me. The best Spanish churros (not sugar dusted like in U.S.) were in Malaga (only tried one store in Malaga and 2 stores in Seville) with its thick milk chocolate. I actually thought the chain that starts with K in Seville was better just because I liked their chocolate dip better, and it was slightly more made to order.

Yelp
Hands down best churros we experienced during our entire trip in Spain! First of all, churros in Andalusia are so much better than the ones elsewhere....and of all the places in southern Spain we tried, El Comercio was easily the best. Churros in places like the well-known Chocolatería San Ginés in Madrid are somewhat denser (more similar to what Americans are used to from our friendly neighbors down south in Mexico)....whereas churros in all the cafes we tried in Sevilla/Cordoba/Granada had a much more dough-y texture, which I absolutely loved. El Comercio exemplifies the pinnacle of churro making. It's essentially a freshly fried elongated beignet that you dip in a dense, rich chocolate. Seriously life-changing, and this will become the benchmark by which you will judge all future churros. This is a MUST stop for anyone coming through Sevilla. On the negative side, it will ruin any other churros for you once you leave here!

Yelp
Fantastic hot fresh churros and chocolate, you won't be disappointed. We got 2 orders as they melt in your mouth

Yelp
WHOA! Delicious churros to dip in their chocolate!! Always loved churros in California, and tried in a famous place in Madrid....but this blows my mind! BEST churros I've had anywhere! Not the typical skinny churro with decorative lines on the side. Think thicker with more fluff in the center and crispier coating, then dipped into a chocolate that seems lighter than some places with dark chocolate, yet darker than our milk chocolate. I'd call it semi-sweet chocolate if not for the different taste. Yummy without being overly sweet. My 1/2 order of churros is enough to share, and I'm a big eater! Great service -if you don't mind waiting a few minutes for them to catch up. The place is packed and they're doing their best to keep up with the demand. Sit at the bar and watch them hustle! ps, just came from Italy so the espresso wasn't up to standard, but I did notice them refilling the beans that were from Seville. Good enough to drink though for a little pick-me-up.

Yelp
My sister, somehow still not tired of churros and hot chocolate (3 days in a row!!), led us to this fine establishment. It was busy and packed!!! Wait a bit and eventually a table will open up- either way you will still have to order at the bar. The hot chocolate here, out of the 3 churros with hot chocolate places that we've been to (San Ginés in Madrid, Churrería Los Especiales in Seville and here), was the closest to an American hot chocolate, but was still distinctly not American. It was the sweetest of the three. The churros were less dense than the others, and we actually found ourselves with barely any leftover hot chocolate to enjoy by itself. Tea was kind of terrible (didn't taste like anything). Don't get tea. No idea about the other offerings but they looked tempting! If we were staying longer I'd definitely come back. 4/5

Yelp
We decided to come here to try their churros for breakfast. However, they did not have it when we went on a Saturday morning. The person at the bar told us something about 5 o'clock. Unfortunately, we weren't really sure what he meant. This spot is full of locals, which is the perfect spot we were looking for. We ordered a few items of their chalkboard menus and sat at the bar. My bf and I enjoy people watching. A group of gentlemen came in and sat next to us. They ordered a few vermouth each (served with a piece of orange) and pounded them and left. We loved the morning vibes here! The staff speak limited English here but don't be shy to point or just pick random items like us! We ordered jamon, frites and huervo (fried eggs), jamon sandwich and of course espresso to jump start our morning!
google avatar

Yelp
Bar El Comercio seems to be the favourite Breakfast place for my travel mates! They were here everyday while in Seville to grab a quick coffee and sandwich. I came with them once and I enjoyed the friendly staff and the local vibe. Though none of us speak Spanish but did not seem to have problem ordering our food. Ordered from the bar. Wait a little and the order will be ready for pick up at the bar counter. We paid when we were done. Coffee was strong and helped me get over my jet lag. Pressed Sandwich with jamon serrano was delicious. I have not tried the churros there but seems like a good place for those from all the photos and reviews! Maybe I should have that for breakfast instead?

Yelp
Favorite churros (porras) con chocolate. Simple breakfast available. Local ambiance. No nonsense service, efficient, limited English but was not a problem. Would keep coming back if in town!

Yelp
It just simply the best churros in the area! "Churros con chocolate' is the only Spanish word I care to learn on my whole entire trip to Spain. And I have had 4 meals of churros on my entire 6 days trip in Spain. I just can't get enough of it! After a few churros, I started to notice the difference in quality. And or of the all 4 churros I had El comercio really had the best. Churros con chocolate has two main element: the churros and the hot chocolate. Like most places in Sevilla, the churros are freshly made, so it's nice and steamy hot inside. I like how the churros are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside without too much dough, but yet not completely crunchy. It just had the right amount dough and crispiness. So it was just perfect. Secondly their hot chocolate: it is rich and just think enough for the churros to pick up all that heavenly dip. I like that the hot chocolate here has a nice cocoa taste, like it's not from the cheap hot chocolate mix. And it has a dark rich brown chocolate color. It's great to enjoy both visually and taste. I really enjoyed it. The down side of this place is that, it is actually a bar counter ordering. You squeezed in and tried to get a bar tender to place your order. There is zero chairs. So you have to just stand for the entire meal ( they also offer tapas and drinks, but as far as I see at the bar, it's all churros and nothing else). On the bar there are tables with low chairs, but it's just too crowded for that. As much as it is so crowded and busy, the ambience and the set up of the bar does allows me to fully submerged into the culture and be in this city. And it's just fun having hot chocolate at a bar and no one judges you. It's quaint, it's happening and it's exciting. I already miss this place and their churros! Tip*: even though it's crowded, order dine in to have the dine in experience (recommend by the bar). Rather then to pick up a paper box with a foam cup of chocolate. The fun it's part of being in the moment with all these people from all over the world and savoring your hot churros dipping in your hot chocolate.

Yelp
5/5 stars food, ambiance, service and overall experience. This little hole in the wall was one of my food highlights during my trip to Spain with my friend. I am not fluent in Spanish but I understand and can speak fairly conversationally, despite a bit of a language barrier the kind man who I was assuming was the owner helped me with my order and even gave me and my friend a complimentary montadito when some of our order was taking a little bit more time. The food here is extremely authentic and delicious. I went back to the bar to order around 4-5 different times because my friend and I wanted to try everything - ranging from chorizo montaditos to chocolate con churros to fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee. For seating, don't expect for someone to seat you and take your order. Order and pay at the bar and then find a seat nearby if available.

Yelp
Asked a friend from Sevilla for her recommendation on a place to get churros and she right a way said, "El Comercio." And oh was she RIGHT about that!! We came in during the afternoon and things weren't too busy. Ordered 1 portion of churros and a chocolate (plus drinks). The churros are made fresh when you order them and are served pipping hot and the chocolate is poured when you order it as well. It was SO GOOD!!! If you're looking for the real deal, El Comercio is where you need to go!!

Yelp
Came here around 5pm on a weekday in search of the best churros in Seville. Let's just say these did not disappoint. If you are in Seville do yourself a favor and stop by here for churros and hot chocolate. The churros are made fresh in front of your eyes, and have the perfect consistency being fluffy enough to dip into the chocolate for the best chocolate to church absorption. The restaurant itself has a great authentic vibe and I felt like the locals came here also. Will need to come back to try their tapas.

Yelp
Old Spanish tapas bar. Service could be better but food is great. Churros and chocolate are their specialty and it doesn't disappoint. Plus during siesta time, one of the only places opened later to enjoy food. Try the orange wine (vino de naranja). Super sweet but good to try!

Yelp
Fresh churros! Great chocolate! That's all that needs to be said. And all of this at a pretty reasonable price of 5 Euros.
google avatar

Becca L.

Yelp
Cute little churros shop in the middle of busy Sevilla. Immersive interior design. The churros were light and delicious, and the chocolate was very rich. We went there on a Saturday around 6pm, and they were selling only churros as food at that time.
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast. Want to go back for churros! Small space but have table service plus bar seating!

Joseph W.

Yelp
We tried afternoon coffee and of course their highly advertised churro y chocolate. It was a bit different from what we got back in the US. It's larger, lighter and without the ridges and the hot chocolate dipping sauce was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down one of our favorite dining experiences while in Seville. For around 10 euro, we had two fresh orange juices, churros and dipping chocolate for two. This business is self-service (at the counter) with a friendly and helpful staff on hand. I especially enjoyed watching the older gentleman make churros while we waited for our order. There was a nice mix of locals and tourists and they appear to have long hours - churros all dayyyy, errrdayy. The menu also features a few tapa offerings. Note: the bathroom was a hot mess when I visited. Don't count on it. Overall a fun and what appeared to be authentic experience.

L S.

Yelp
Just realized I never posted my review. Visited several cities in Spain in 2019 and of course we had to try the churros and chocolate in each area we were at. El Comercio is the best hands down!!! Drooling as we speak. It's pretty busy but service is quick. They also had fresh squeezed orange juice which was really good. We also tried 2 of their sandwiches which was good. I don't think you can wrong with anything here. I would definitely visit Seville again and this restaurant is one of the reasons! You must go here if you're in Seville.
google avatar

Yelp
Slightly late review but now after trying several different churro spots around Spain, this has been The best one we've had. Not only did the churros have a great texture to it, but the cup of chocolate was rich, had nice density and was delicious to the point we drank it all! Spot is popular amongst locals and people continuously come in and out. We came between lunch and dinner so they didn't have the full menu but we did also order a side of the cured ham which was also delicious. So glad we made a stop here in between our shopping. Add this to tour list of MUST GOs if in Seville!

Yelp
Best breakfast I had while visiting. Make sure you get the fresh made Churro with Chocolate ! Fresh squeezed orange was also great touch.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
The churros and chocolate were delicious. One order is very big so sharing it was perfect. Ordered "tortilla de Jamon" which ended up being a regular omelette. The "tortilla de papas" was what I was actually looking for so it was deceiving that the omelette was still labeled as a "tortilla". Furthermore, the eggs were still runny. However, the tortilla de papas that my friend ordered was a big portion and very delicious. Their orange juice was also fresh and great!

Yelp
This is a really cute spot I found via Yelp. The service was fast. I came here to try the churros everyone has been talking about. I found myself a seat at the bar and was served immediately. The hit chocolate was thick but not sickly sweet and churros crunchy but a tad cold. 4 euros for brekky isn't too bad at all. You also get served a glass of free water.

Yelp
Fresh, airy, and savory churros paired with perfectly balanced chocolate. After weeks of traveling across Spain and trying churrerias in every city, I had to taste the churros of Seville where I stayed for a month. El Comercio was the first place I tried. The location is central, but hours do not follow those listed online. I visited three times before finding it open. Call ahead if you do not want to be disappointed! But after my first visit, I came back another four times during my month-stay in Seville; after trying the other churrerias, el Comercio was my favorite. The décor evokes historical Sevillana. Past the long bar corridor is a quaint room lined with blue and white ceramic and dark wood furniture. In the corner, the churros chef guides the mix to form a spiral in the frying oil, and waits for a golden brown. Order and pay at the bar, get a table, and pick up your hot fresh plate of churros when the chef calls you over. We usually order one chocolate to share between two servings of churros. For dipping, the ratio suffices. But I can see myself ordering another chocolate on a brisk winter's day. The churros are fried to perfection - hot, crispy and brown on the outside, airy and slightly chewy on the inside. They are savory and flavorful. The chocolate is rich and smooth - not too sweet and not too bitter; viscous enough to dip, thin enough to drink. Under-fried or stale churros imparts a plastic aftertaste. These churros only leave you with happy childhood memories. Oh, and freshly squeezed orange juice is available!
google avatar

Steven R.

Yelp
If you don't get breakfast here, you're doing yourself a disservice! Almost everyone orders the small sandwhiches (serranito which is meat with veggies) and coffee. Churros and hot chocolate are a necessity here! You will not be sorry

Yelp
Such a fun spot. We arrived to a packed house but found a way to the bar and settled into a little corner amongst the crowd. We ordered Iberian jamon sandwiches (for my bf and daughter) and churros and chocolate. Oh MY GOSH, what a food combo. Fried long hollow donuts dipped in thick gooey chocolate. Who would have thunk it? My bf LOVED his Cortado. Absolute perfection but the vibe makes it a win. Loud, crowded and super local.

Popped in for a really quick bite and a beverage with my husbae. Ordered a tapa of Jamon Iberico (which was a generous portion) that was absolutely delicious -- hand cut not too thick or too thin and washed it down with our dry sherries, that also came with some super yummy green olives. If you need a quick break in between shopping, highly recommend this spot as a place to take a break and rest your feet.

Yelp
This place is all about the churros. Not too sweet, and basic enough to try as a desert or as a mini meal. If you are there at the right time, you can watch the churros being made on the spot.
