"In the quiet, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood of Sarrià, this bar is a classic for tapas, especially the patatas bravas—everyone in Barcelona knows the “bravas del Tomás.” It's always full of students, so the atmosphere is crowded, but unlike other tapas places, it has tables with chairs so you can sit down."

Hidden gem recommended to me by a friend from Barcelona. Best patata Bravas in town. Refreshing beers. The fried artichoke was also delicious. Amazing place with nice staff! Would visit again!

One of the best local place I recommend. The bravas and homemade garlic alioli is perfect. The waiters are very active and work hard!

The team at Photolator.com had the pleasure of visiting El Thomàs de Sarrià, and it quickly became one of the highlights of our trip. Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Sarrià, this spot offered an authentic and delightful dining experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a perfect blend of local charm and modern touches. The staff was exceptionally welcoming, making us feel like part of the family. As photographers, we couldn’t resist capturing the beautifully presented dishes and the cozy yet stylish interiors. The food? Simply outstanding. The croquetas were perfectly crisp and creamy, and the patatas bravas were easily the best we’ve ever had—crispy, golden, and paired with their signature sauce that we’re still dreaming about. Every dish we tried was fresh, flavorful, and lovingly crafted.

Can’t say that bravas are ✨the best✨ but still good. They’re homemade, more on the soft side, not crunchy, with plenty of sauce. Service is extremely fast, atmosphere a bit touristy Strong 4

Google
Bar El Tomàs is broadly known in Barcelona for having one of the best "patatas bravas" in the city... and I do agree. I dare to say they must be in the top 3. Still, my major concern with El Tomàs is that their bravas is the only good -exellent- tapa they have. Any other tapa is not worth it at all. Today we tasted -again- other tapas beyond the "bravas" and they keep the same: neither the fritters, nor the dumplings, nor the artichokes, nor the russian salad, nor nothing else! I cannot understand how they can be the best the bravas and not invest a penny to improve any other one!!! Anyway, El Tomàs is definitely a must in Barcelona, No discussion. Yet good to go for the bravas and bear and then move to another place for the full meal. Illustration: bravas mixtas for 3,25€ (terrace price...15%+) Labels: 2eat, 2drink, #bravas, #terrace, #mustGo

When a couple of times and I would say the best potato bravas, I can eat in Barcelona. It will be here this place. Also it is very cheap and affordable. My suggestion will be take potato bravas and varmut.

Google
One of the best places in Barcelona to get home style patatas bravas, with the most powerful garlic aioli you will probably ever taste! The bravas are fried in extra virgin olive oil so you can be sure you are getting a high quality product. Prices are excellent, and I especially recommend the plate with meatballs and an egg for extra variety.

Google
My favourite patatas bravas place of all time in Barcelona. I've been visiting it since my student time and I always love to come back for a quick tapas and beer. My recommendation is to have bravas mixtas!!

Yelp
Came here after visiting the Camp Nou. It was highly recommended. We were cutting it close because they close at 4pm for siesta (reopens around 6:30). We arrived with 15 minutes to spare. The guy at the door didn't seem happy to see a group of 14 pull up so close to closing time, but he sat us. The inside was full plus it's very small. We sat outside. The is a neighborhood joint. Most of the nearby businesses also shut down for siesta. Menu consists of tapas with a few combination plates. Our server quickly took our orders. Food and beer came out even faster. They pride themselves on their patatas bravas. Believe the hype. They were incredible. The croquetas were also delicious. Everything we ordered was great. The meatballs were the kids' favorite. I recommend this spot. Must try. But try not to arrive so close to closing time.

Yelp
Ricas papa bravas ambiente de pueblo muy concurrido comida tradicional que no pretende ser nada elegante pero si muy rica

Yelp
Best bravas potatas- smaller pieces which are crispier and really great garlic sauce. Also the croquettes and empanadas were delicious too. The fuet (pork sausage) was just ok but the razor clams and anchovies were good. Prices were very reasonable too.

Yelp
Been going there for years and it never disappoints. Patatas bravas are the best in Spain and it is a real place filled with locals from the neighborhood. If you want the real deal in Barcelona, it is worth the trip out of the city center.

Yelp
When visiting was told these were the best around! They were indeed delicious, but honestly were just as good as others around for us. Service was fast!

Yelp

Yelp
If you want to go some 30-40 years back in time and eat some home cooked meal it will probably tickle the spot. The atmosphere is too authentic but it's a man's cave and with the beer it will look bright enough. And the Bravas? I wouldn't come here just for those.

Yelp
I'm giving this place 4* overall, but it's definite 5* for their patatas bravas! The place was jam-packed when I visited on Friday evening and EVERYONE was eating the famous Bar Tomas' Patatas Bravas. Some people have gone as far as stating that they might be the best in Barcelona. Well - they were pretty amazing. Topped with chilli oil and delicious aioli, the patatas bravas were absolutely delicious. If you are in Barcelona I'd recommend visiting El Tomas de Sarria!

Yelp
The only thing you need to know about Bar Tomas is patatas bravas. Their patatas are like crack, something amazing to behold, and incomparable anywhere else in the world. We would frequently wander over between classes to feast on their greasy goodness doused in awesome bravas sauce. Apparently now it's become known in tour books, which saddens me. While I am sure the business is great for them, I can't imagine cameras and fanny packs fitting well with the grease and dirt. Maybe leave those behind and work on your language skills before popping in, it's worth the effort for sure!

Yelp
It does not matter how good (or bad) your Catalan/Castellano is. You need only these words: patatas bravas. I'm with Irene F. on the notion that "their patatas are like crack, something amazing to behold, and incomparable anywhere else in the world." The neighborhood of Sarrià is most likely unvisited by visitors, so coming to Bar Tomás showcases a side of Barcelona that exudes small-town charm (although, ironically, it is the ritziest barrio of the city). You might catch sight of an FCB player while in the area, and who could complain about seeing Gerard Piqué in the flesh ("I can," said no one ever)?

Yelp
You only need to know two things about this place, patatas bravas, and don't walk, run to get there! A friend said you can't go to Barcelona without having the patatas bravas, but couldn't remember the name of the place he had them. So after doing some internet research I found Casa Tomas and vowed to make my way there. It took us forever and a day to get there by train, (we took the long way) but it was so easy to find once we got off the train, and so worth the hike to get there! My boyfriend didn't understand why I was so hell bent on going until he tasted them, and he still says they are the best things we at the entire time we were in Spain, and we had some really amazing food! What the place lacks aesthetically, it makes up for in flavor because the sauce that they put on the potato's is out of this world! I am desperately searching for a recipe to bring that little peace of heaven home with me! This place is a must!

Yelp
Bar Tomas is famously known throughout Barcelona for the best patatas bravas in the city...and I whole-heartedly agree. They don't look that pretty, in fact on the greasy side, but I can never forget how amazing they were and a must visit for any brava fan. As a result of their reputation, they aren't the most welcoming people, and it is a bit intimidating to visit (I went with a local so I didn't even speak).

Yelp
The bravest of the brave, the spuddest of the spud, the hottest of the hot, the sauciest of the sauce, ... how did that Garbage song go again? [1] Beer and bravas is the lifeblood of Spanish pub life. It scales down to 2 people and up to 20, just get everyone around a table and kvetch for as long as the beer and potatoes keep coming. And Tomas might be the best place in Barcelona to get them. The taste of the potatoes really come through, they are not just your average freezer fries, and the sauce is probably the spiciest thing I ate in Barcelona that wasn't a kebab. Washes down really well with beer. The only thing I was missing was a crunch, these potatoes aren't made to be crunchy though. If you're bored watch the guy behind the counter fight with the waiter. They seem like they're brothers. It's hilarious, yet after all that all orders still get delivered quickly and efficiently. And if you see them come out with a fresh batch of potatoes, definitely order another round. [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ppiohVRZ0s

Yelp
BRAVAS!!! I just moved back to the U.S. from Barcelona and I'm always dreaming of Bar Tomas and craving the patatas bravas in a bad way! Luckily I married a Catalan from Barcelona, so when we go back to Barcelona to visit his family I can and WILL go to Tomas for bravas. Tomas is a bit out of the way, but my husband had a moped, which made it much easier to get to. Even if you have to take public transportation or a taxi, do it! The bravas are the reason to go, but try the butifarra too because it's delicious. Also, there's an old man that works there and he's always yelling and seems like such an angry guy, but it's actually really funny. The place is never empty! When you're finished, take a left out of the bar and walk up the hill. There's a bakery on the corner with AMAZING desserts. We went there every time we had Tomas!

Yelp
If you're looking for something local & sinful, this place is it. The spuds are golden fried to perfection. However, the accompanying garlic sauce is the hero of the dish that leaves a lingering taste in your mouth for hours on end. Great place to people watch - the old timers behind the counter pulling San Miguel and the endless stream of diners coming through the door.

Yelp
Best patatas bravas I have ever had! Their sauce is so special I had to go to this place at least once a week after school. On top of that, their prices could not be cheaper! The servers were really nice and even tried to speak some english to my american/foreign friends.

Yelp
Overhyped restaurant. Absolutely not horrible, but when compared to the overall reviews, it's the definition of an anticlimax. Also, tiny beer.

Yelp
Allegedly the best patatas bravas in Barcelona! I enjoyed the bravas (oily and spicy) - and you pretty much order just that (the question the waiters would ask is not 'what' you'd like but 'how many' you'd like), but what I enjoyed most was the ambience which is that of a very ordinary small bar with pale bored waiters :) the only sign of its dame is a Wall Street journal article framed on the wall :)

Yelp
Best patatas bravas ever! Love the atmosphere. Croquettas are not great and empanadas are nice. Very cheap!

Nathan C.

Yelp
Precisely the hole-in-the-wall authentic Spanish place you need to visit for patatas bravas and some of the chorizos - it's near Sarria. It's a greasy-spoon, to be sure - but if you like a great "find" - this is still one of them, despite its tourbook exposure.

Yelp
still one of the best, or possibly the best patatas bravas in the country! very garlicky and inexpensive. outdoor seating too.

Etay N.

Yelp
I'm not from Spain and don't speak much Spanish or Catalonian, however for the week I had spent in Barcelona, I ate there daily. They are known for their Bravas, I would also order the crocketas (croquettes) and bañuelos de backalau. It will make your day a better one for sure!

Yelp
The best patatas bravas in Barcelona!!!! Be sure to get there early or you'll be waiting for a while outside. Local place but very friendly to tourists.

Qype User (ricard…)

Yelp
The legendary Tomàs in Sarrià is permanently packed out with people in need of the ultimate local comfort food - patatas bravas. It must be said, Tomàs's bravas are among the best on the planet. The sauce is a pitch-perfect combination of a sweet and spicy hot red flavour (recipe presumably top-secret) and the right amount of mayonnaise, served separately. On this occasion, I must be frank, I felt that the potatoes themselves were a little lacking in firmness; perhaps even that dreaded adjective "soggy" could be applied to them. But on the whole, these are superb bravas. And the atmosphere is great - families around tables, friends sipping beer and tucking into great platefuls of potatoes, wiping the sauce from their chins with glee and a glint in their eyes, betraying the slight guilt that comes with this entirely hedonistic pastime. And I'm not talking about lunch, no - this is 1pm, peak aperitif time on Sunday 28th of December. Remember, these people have been eating solidly for four days! And after this, they're off home for a big lunch - again. Great stuff.
