"Greenwich Village’s Austrian cafe Freud has reopened as Bar Freud, with chef-owner Eduard Frauneder tapping Austrian bartending brothers Albert and Jakob Trummer to develop a cocktail program “intended to reflect the unique experience of being in Sigmund Freud’s Therapy Room,” according to the menu. Albert Trummer previously ran pharmaceutical-themed bars and bar programs at Apothéke, Sanatorium, and Three Pillars. For Bar Freud, the Trummers have come up with cocktails like the “waiting room,” a tequila- or mezcal-based drink made with cherry tomatoes, bail, balsamic reduction, and habanero. “Foam,” “essence,” and “elixir” pop up all over the drink menu. There’s also a revamped food menu featuring mostly small plates and a few entrees like hanger steak, spatzle, and wiener schnitzel." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

The food was great! That's the Spätzle and Wiener schnitzte? I think? The drinks were glorious! The staff was also amazing. The owner/manager is Italian, but her german is spot on! She was very friendly and served us drinks. I'm giving it 4 stars because although the food was amazing, space was tight and we felt were a bit too close to our neighbors :) other than that the meal was soooooo good!

Food was very yummie but the ambiente for brunch is not the nicest (very dark inside). If you sit a the entrance is super cute.

The salmon was very tender but there was a sweet sauce that compromised the taste. Several in our party ordered burgers. They were not pleased with their meals.

Our experience at Freud was exceptional! We had a going away party for a friend from overseas here on 11/4. We all had heard about the fantastic burgers and so everyone in our party of 8 ordered them. To our dismay they only had 3 left for the night. Their response to our disappointment was more than what was needed and they really went above and beyond to accommodate us as best they could. The steak made a great substitute for the burger, but please still order fries to dip into the amazing steak juices. Our waiter was fantastic and everything from drinks to appetizers to our entrees came out on time and to perfection. Great for a smaller group and would make a cute date spot as well! The music was modern and fun, and alternated well between fun and ambient. Kudos!

All of the food we ordered looked delicious and was presented beautifully but the taste didn't live up to my expectations. Nothing was necessarily bad but nothing was quite amazing either. I loved my spicy tequila cocktail with basil so I would definitely go sit at the bar for a drink but I don't think I'll be dining there again. The environment and decor were great and it was a lively environment! The service was a little slow but it's still new so it might get better with time.

The food at this place is nice. The Schnitzel is very tasty. The deserts (only two available) were both delicious. The cocktails are ok but nothing special. I am only giving three stars because the staff, while very friendly, was also super slow and not attentive.

We got here early, so we were literally waited on hand and foot by the attentive wait staff. Food was excellent and one of the better spatzles I've eaten, outside of Vienna. All the food was fantastic (we ordered quite a bit from each menu) and all in all pretty affordable. I would have given this five stars but I hate when you get to a restaurant and they don't give you the happy hour menu and wait for you to ask for it, just a small annoyance, but I will definitely go back here. Nice ambiance too and very tasty cocktails.

Came from brunch The MOST accommodating restaurant around. From a small party transforming to slightly larger from inside seats to outside, we felt totally taken care of. The food was delicious! We ate and drank most of the menu so cannot complain about anything and recommend everything! The egg sandwich was really delicious as were the egg dishes and they even added a poached egg to our schnitzel per our request. Can't wait to return! Note: the music can be a bit loud but also only happens for intervals so a nice ambience booster!
