Bar Jamón Review - Gramercy - New York - The Infatuation

"Most restaurants have a bar area where people can hang, drink, and wait for a table. In Casa Mono’s case, that’s its sister spot, Bar Jamón. It’s a tiny, crowded little room with a few communal tables and some ledges near which you can sit or stand, plus a small handful of tables outside. It’s definitely a great place to drink and snack before a full meal at Casa Mono, but it’s even better as a middle ground between just drinks, and drinks with some food. The Spanish small plates are all excellent, and the wine list is about as good as one gets. The downside? It's pricey, and twenty people in there means it’s a full house. Food Rundown Pan Con Tomate Simple, but delicious. There’s a lot more flavor here than you might expect from garlic bread that's been rubbed with a tomato. Chorizo with Pickled Peppers Some ridiculously good chorizo, sliced and topped with thin, crunchy pickled peppers for acid and sweetness. This might be our favorite thing at Bar Jamón. Pulpo with Spicy Garbanzos We love our octopus. This one comes served with some spicy chick peas, and it's tender and delicious. Jamón Serrano Good Spanish ham, served with baguette. If you really feel like splurging, you can spend fifty bucks on the Jamón Iberico, but we opted for this and a few more glasses of wine instead. You should probably stop being a showoff and do the same." - Chris Stang

"Tucked into a tiny (very tiny) space next door to Casa Mono, this U-shaped tapas bar by Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich has been around for more than a decade. The crowd is typically neighborhood types grabbing quick drinks, lots of (stylish) first dates, or those swinging by for a nightcap post dinner next door. The pared-down menu, which is scrawled on the mirror behind the bar, includes pan con tomate, tortila, and jamon iberico—in addition to, obviously, great reds. "This is a Batali-Bastianich collaboration, so expect nothing less than delicious tapas—excellent meats, manchego cheese, boquerones—all served up as authentically as if you were in Madrid. If you come just for drinks, you won't be disappointed by the list, and you can pretty much make a meal out of a few of their authentic offerings. (If you're still hungry, head next door to Casa Mono.)"

Oh NYC, you're so overrated and overpriced. Very loud, dark, tapas restaurant with of course attitude from the staff. A couple long communal tables (don't like) a few seats at the bar and a few at the window. Fortunately, grabbed (literally)seats by the window. We had a few small uninspired plates - beet salad with pistachios, smoked trout and few cheeses.(see my terrible photos) It was OK...just. They have a nice wine selection but difficult to find a bottle under a $100 (see photo). Fly to Spain to see how it's done. Depending on the wine it may cost you the same. Dined, March 2023. That’s all for now.

Great little spot! We sat at the wine bar. The ambiance was enjoyable, music is not too loud. The sommelier gave us great suggestions for wine. Some of the dishes were a miss (paella croqueta and pulpo a la plancha, namely) but we totally fell in love with the fluke crudo, creamy eggs, and bone marrow. Another thing to note, the food temperature was a bit inconsistent, and some dishes that needed to be hot, arrived lukewarm. Overall though, we had a very enjoyable dinner and would come back to try other dishes from the menu.

Google
Had marinated mussels, board of 6 different kinds of cheese 🧀, plate of jamon, and 5 glasses of white wine from Jerez. I was enjoying it, it was delicious and fun. And of course, the best churros 😋 for dessert I've ever tried. I didn't ask for my servers name, but she was super nice and very knowledgeable. I'm definitely coming back and bringing more people.

Google
I was looking forward to trying this place given its attractive location near Irving Place. A very unpleasant hostess, who clearly was looking to go home, told me the bar was closed, despite being within their posted hours (and many tables present). I certainly won’t rush back, given a bad ambassador at the front of the house (see more reviews about impolite service).

Google
A generous pouring keeps the patrons returning. Stopped by for a night cap post dinner. After a brief wait at the bar, we were seated outside. The brought our drinks that we ordered at the bar to our table. The wines were all excellent, you can’t go wrong with closing your eyes and selecting any of the glasses. And the pours were generous, much more so than many other restaurants. The wine tasting brought knowledgeable insight for the vineyard. The waiter was prompt, friendly, and humorous. The jamon on point. I’d like to come back and try all their other dishes because they did look delicious.

I genuinely don’t understand this dude’s problem. We went in for a bit because we’re Spanish and wanted to check it out. The food and drink was fine but their waiter or manager, I don’t know what he was, was extremely and unnecessarily rude. The place was essentially empty so it’s not like he was stressed and his general tone was extremely condescending and rude. And this is coming from someone who generally cuts waiters some slack cause I understand their job can be stressful. This also happened to a couple of friends of ours so it’s definitely not an isolated incident. Hopefully they can improve their service.

Google
Lovely joint with great wine and tapas. After dinner, walked past this place and decided to take a look. A little squeeze but we came late so not too bad! Ordered Spanish wines at decent price ends up drank 2 bottles of it. The Jamon iberico , pork coquette, tomato bread and other tapas. Great service and nice ambience to chill after a long day work.

Google
Probably closest thing nyc has to a tapas place, encouraging people to be in a tighter space, also standing up at the bar, small plates, good wines. Really like the atmosphere.

Yelp
The more I come to Bar Jamon, the more I love it. Just consistently exceptional wine, excellent food and great service in a casual neighborhood wine bar. Prior 4 stars doesn't do justice

Yelp
Awesome wine bar in the flatiron area. Would recommend going as no more than a group of 4 as the tables are all bench style, first come first serve. Good selection of wines and they also have good food. All the wines are awesome, food-wise I recommend the pan con tomate and the various cheeses. Minus a star as the service can be quite slow and inattentive at times.

Yelp
... Review your bill before paying The server charges us $52 for an appetizer that was $18 and they added $11 for three pieces of bread. ... unfortunate because it's a cute place but the server we had was shady, looking to get a couple of extra bucks.

Yelp
This is a very cute and cozy (small) wine bar with high quality tapas tucked away just off Irving Place. They keep it simple here with a short, straightforward menu and the wine selection is great. I will say, the space is very small inside and echoed quite a lot. My friend and I ended up moving outside because it was extremely loud (despite there only being a couple other groups seated at the time). The service wasn't necessarily bad, but our waiter was not really knowledgeable about the menu items or wine selection which seemed strange to me. The menu is written out on a board at the front of the bar--not only is it hard to distinguish between each item, but also there is no description so questions were warranted. We did feel a little rushed as they piled everything on our table at once to the point where it was difficult to set down my drink. And, my waiter tried taking my expensive glass of wine that I was nowhere near done with away without me noticing... Honestly don't think this would be a good first date spot as things didn't exactly go smoothly. Despite the minor service flaws, everything we ordered was delicious, except for the arugula and shaved fennel salad that seemed to have just been extremely over salted by accident. This is a solid casual spot to stop by for a drink after work or before dinner. Not to mention, the surrounding area is gorgeous too.

Yelp
Very crowded. Very loud. Slow service when busy. Check your bill. Bread service even if not ordered specifically is added as a charge. Wine is good.

Yelp
Very cute and casual wine bar! We got the charcuterie board ($25 and didn't have cheese ) and 2 glasses of bubbly white wine. It's a little cramped but still a very cute place to stop by after a dinner.

Yelp
Small place, tucked down a side street: Dark and intimate inside, with a couple of big shared tables. The food menu is written up on a big blackboard behind the bar: I guess the menu is fairly standard, doesn't change but they have occasional specials. Main food / tapas are meats/ cheeses and similar small plates which can be easily prepared without "cooking". We also had the Spanish omelette which was tasty, plus jamon Serrano and manchego cheese. We had glasses of red wine, they come with a glass and a mini flask refill so it's like a glass and a half (reflected in the price). It's a nice place for a quite chat maybe on the way to or from somewhere busier.

Yelp
Bar Jamón is a nice place to get some decent tapas near Union Square or to grab a couple glasses of wine before dinner. If you have a very intense appetite, this may not be the place for you in terms of food. However, if you have an intense appetite for wine, then Bar Jamón is perfect. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the various wines and made great recommendations. As a warning, this place is very small, and it may be best to visit with a party less than four folks during prime dinner hours. From my understanding, Bar Jamón does not take reservations.
google avatar

Yelp
One of best Spanish tapas places in in the city. Iberico Jamon are my fav item in the menu, they are little pricy compare to other tapas places but I'd recommend. You should plan for reservation ahead.

Yelp
We attended a Spanish wine tasting dinner at Bar Jamon and were extremely impressed with the food and the service. The quality of the tapas was as good as anything we have eaten in Spain. Any halfway decent tapas bar can serve up good jamon or decent patatas bravas, but Bar Jamon goes well beyond that. The Confit Goat with Avocado Queso, Scallion Ash, and Pistachios is one of the very best meat dishes I have had in a long time. As the New York Times has said about their food, "hard to . . . find a New York restaurant where [the dishes] are satisfying one after another." Bar Jamon really delivers soul satisfying dishes one after another.

Yelp
Spanish tapas bar! Tip: No reservations accepted and this place gets jam packed so try to get here earlier or very late for a better dining experience. When I get there on a Saturday at 8pm, it was packed. There were no free spots to sit and there were lots of people standing around everywhere, drinking. When some seating was finally was available, I had to uncomfortably brush pass people and step over a bag to get to my seat. Then later, uncomfortably brush pass even more people to get to the bathroom. This is a tiny tight space. All the tables are high top bar stool, communal tables, so there is very little privacy if that is what you are looking for. Also it gets very noisy. At times its hard to have a conversation. Though once seated, it is a nice and cozy place, with a nice warm wood interior. Dimly lit with candles abound. Kinda romantic, if you're okay with sitting right next to strangers. The menu is written on a blackboard behind the bar. All the tapas (small plates) were excellent. It's good to go with friends, then you get to try more dishes. Some of dishes I tasted were: Eggplant and Spanish Anchovy Cazuela with Moroccan Toast and Herb Salad $17.00 Raw Coho Salmon with Flor de Anis and Champagne Grapes $15.00 Scallops with Plum Mint Tea and Toasted Ginger $17.00 Foie Gras with Cinco Cebollas $19.00 Skirt Steak with Romesco and Onion Mermelada $17.00 Chilled Shrimp al Ajillo with Zucchini Pancake and Sungold Tomatoes $17.00

Yelp
4.5 stars. Bar Jamon is a great choice in flatiron. It gets packed on weekends so be aware of lines. Big fan of the decor - it's long shared tables where you can stand/sit, dim lighting, and it can get loud. Bar Jamon delivers on quality wine and yes, jamon. Always opt for jamon iberico, delicious and melts in your mouth. The servers are always helpful in pairing wine with the food you order. It's a great place for a small dinner or a date. I wouldn't suggest coming here for groups larger than 4 since the space is small.

Yelp
I used to love this spot but came here tonight at 11:35pm (Saturday) and we were turned away because they had already done last call even though their website says they close at midnight. I understand doing last call 10-15 min before close but 25 seems excessive and lazy. There were plenty of people still eating, I'm not sure why they didn't want our money but I'm really disappointed. What a change from previously closing at 2am back in the day. Don't plan on coming back which makes me sad because the food is so good and service is usually on point.

Yelp
My team held its work holiday dinner at Bar Jamón, which I was thrilled about since it gave me the chance to check out a place that I had been wanting to visit.  The space accommodated about 25 people, so we rented the entire room, with its high-top tables.  The restaurant was mainly a wine and tapas bar, so our beverage offerings were limited to water and house white, red, and sparkling wines.  I selected the Casa Mono Brut Cava, which included Macabeo, Parellada, Chardonnay, and Xarel-lo grapes, and carried the name of their parent restaurant nextdoor, Casa Mono.  Though it was referred to as a "brut", it was actually rather fruity and bright.  The staff was really on top of their game, consistently refilling our glasses before we could even finish the contents in front of us, which led to a bit of a messy evening... Thankfully, we were able to enjoy a vast selection of tapas, in addition to all of the booze.  The Tortilla Clásica was a typical, Spanish egg and potato casserole that was topped with a garlic aioli and paprika.  Despite my usual dislike of mayo-based condiments, I rather enjoyed this light and zesty topping on the delicate quiche, which included a flaky crust and fluffy interior.    There was also a plate of creamy Burrata that was balanced by acidity from balsamic vinegar and macerated tomatoes.  An earthy, Dry-Aged Beef Tartaré had been tossed with a porcini cream and topped with scallions.  Fluke and sweet potatoes were cubed and turned into a ceviche, served in tiger milk.  Their House Salad included sprigs of some sort of lettuce or chicory, tossed with pickled raisins for sweetness.   I peeled slices of Lardo Ibérico off of a pickled ratatouille, focusing on the stewed tomatoes and eggplant.  I simply loved the Golden Beets, which were served over soft Valdeón blue cheese and blueberries.  There was also sliced, Spicy Chorizo with Pickled Peppers and Scallions that I heard was fabulous, but did not try.  The meal culminated with a plate of crispy, cinnamon-covered Churros with a warm Chocolate dipping sauce, which received mixed reviews.   Overall, our Bar Jamón feast was excellent.  From the service to the creative and flavor-packed dishes to the wine selection, we simply had a blast!

Yelp
They need to work on the acoustics here. It's a tiny place. And somehow was super packed throughout the night. Could barely hear my dining companion. Tables are long and shared so you sit across from your person and are elbow to elbow with the people sitting next to you. Food was good. I lied our waiter well enough, he was a young guy. Though he was busy so while he passed us a bunch, it was tough to flag him down at times to order more stuff. Then there was an older gentleman who hovered. But in a really unpleasant way. I can't describe but it was his aura all together. It's like he didn't like it when we didn't know our order a minute after I sat down, he really wanted to make sure we kept ordering drinks. It was overall uncomfortable. The food- The calamari was unexpected but good. It was blanched and shredded. Beets we had with the goat cheese on the side. Olives are olives Octopus was good

Yelp
Bar Jamón is such a fun tapas and wine spot in Gramercy. The food is delicious and hiqh quality. We ordered the pan con tomate, a salad, the octopus, and some assorted meats and cheeses that were all incredible. They recommend 2-3 plates per person and I felt that it was the perfect amount! The service was top notch. Our waiter suggested a great wine for our second glass that paired really well with the dishes we still had coming up. This really highlighted how knowledgable the waiter was about both the wine and the food. The space is small and it's pretty loud (but in a lively way) and the tables are all communal - so be prepared to rub elbows with the people around you! I definitely recommend checking it out - I'll be back!

Yelp
Cramped, tight, dark. Perfect. Standing at the counter, embracing European culture. Tiny place with excellent wines and food. All Tapas and small plates, all very fresh, all a great combo of flavors expertly arranged right in front of you. Not to mention the several kinds of pure Jamon. Outstanding informal service and for NY a balanced value for money.

Yelp
I have been here countless times, but never got a chance to write a review. This place never disappoints. It can be tough to get a spot (not reservations, few tables), even on weekdays. The place is sister restaurant of Michelin star Casa Mono next door. They even serve the same pan con tomate and if you ordered a bottle of wine here while waiting for your table at Casa Mono they can transfer it for you. Super smooth transition. The place is good for dates, small gathering of friends, or if you are just visiting the city by yourself, I would recommend it too given the communal high tables. Food is out of this world and wine selection also very good. Plates are medium sized, tapas style, meant to share. Last time we shared (2 people): - Pan con tomate ($6): so simple and so good we got two of this. Toasted bread with diced tomatoes and the best olive oil you will ever try. - Smoked Trout with Charred Parsley and Capers ($12): both me and my bf loved this one. Our favorite behind pan con tomate. - Calamares with Olive Tapenade and Radicchio ($9): delish. You need to get this. - Fluke Ceviche with Tony el Tigre and Camote ($13): ok, but nothing extraordinary. In the past we had jamones and they were all great. A must if you come here. Regarding wine, we got Hermanos Peciña Señorío de P. Peciña Vendimia Seleccionada Reserva 2006 ($78), which we had last time and was amazing. Service was really good too. The Argentine waiter is the man!

Yelp
Cute little spot with tons of room on a Saturday night. The cheese plate was delicious, and the red wine selection was fantastic. This is the perfect spot for a quiet, romantic, candlelit meal.

Yelp
Bar Jamon is a great spot for a quick glass of wine, some great charcuterie, super chic service, communal tables, casual fun, making new friends, running randomly in to other friends, and overall enjoyment of life and the relentless pursuit for the perfection of it. Few things: - It's super small so seating is limited, very - Due to the small amount of seating, it gets very tough to get seats - Bar area is standing room only, no seats + Great wine by the glass list + Great selection of cured meats, etc + Easily accessible and several bars nearby to stumble to in case it is really busy at Bar Jamón! + The bar is VERY busy during their busy times but the bartenders do a very good job serving the standing room only, bar THIS has been a review by Gaurav

Yelp
Solid stuff. Super courteous staff who never rushed us even though place is quite small. Once seated at communal table you're treated like family. Definitely felt the pain of the Rioja the next night but was delicious and on point in accompanying the dizzying array of tapas. Jamon and octopus and cheeses were the standouts for sure.

Edward H.

Yelp
I got the goat confit, setas and mushrooms, and fluke crudo. The food was very good in both flavor and appearance.
google avatar

Yelp
A lovely neighborhood wine bar with good ambiance. Can get very crowded even on the weekdays, but it adds to the European charm. Docking off a star because the waiter did not seem very knowledgeable or helpful about the specifics of both the wine and cheese menus.

Yelp
Oh my! What a great place to have a business party under 35 people! Food is great! Really!! I don't like to get stuffed and get lost lol, so tapas is a great way to go for me I totally forgot to take a picture! Foie Graz plate was amazing! Grilled octopus was YUMMY! Many different type of cheese plates! All good they shave prosciutto there

Yelp
Well, considering I met my future wife on a blind date at Bar Jamon 13 years ago (to the day) for tapas... and we stayed for 5 hours chatting, enjoying tapas, wine, and the scene... I have to give this place 5 stars!

Yelp
Went last week while waiting for my seat at Casa Mono . Always so well received by the bartenders, had a gorgeous Mencia and ordered the incontournable Pan con Tomate (can't ever go wrong with this simple yet so perfectly made classic). Also couldn't help noticed the few new items on the menu such as their Rib eye tartare which was amazing, so flavorful and not afraid to say probably the best tartare I've ever had. Cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
I don't know whyI don't come here more often. But I will now. Proximity to my place is prefect when looking for high quality eats and quaffs with Europe's style. Although I've never been to Spain, in my mind tapas joints are like this. Brief but excellent menu, well informed staff and casual atmosphere. Was there a few weeks ago and forgot to post, don't remember all the food. Here are must eats: Pan con tomate Pulpo We had some salad that was not a salad and was amazing. We ordered 2. Great for dates, catching up with friends or solo. Intimate and tasty spoke on the adorable Irving place.

Yelp
This tiny spot is a nostalgic place my friends and I used to come to when we first moved to the City over 10 years ago. With folks in town visit, we returned to our old stomping grounds. The space is small, but has a nice romantic or intimate feel to it. I loved the mixed olives and the Pan con Tomate was out of this world - delicious tomato, salt, on buttery toasted bread!
google avatar

Victoria J.

Yelp
I came once here before and the service was slow but the food was pretty good. Today I came with my boyfriend and we sat for 25 minutes and the waitress with the chunky highlights never came to us ONCE. We were ready to spend a lot of money but clearly she couldn't be bothered to check on us meanwhile the groups on both sides of us were well catered to. I will never be back, this place only seats 30 or so people but there is only one airhead attending to the patrons? Something needs to change here.

Yelp
This place brings back memories of Malaga for me. Especially when the unibrow waiter came by. I have no idea how I am attracted to that, but I am. My circuits are wired weird. We started off with some "cuarto de vino," which is a bit more than a glass of wine. I, of course, am hooked on Tempranillo for the moment and like dry and light bodied reds, so this worked for me. We had a few tapas which were excellent. The duck liver foie gras was out of this world with the apricot jam. A taste burst, orgasmic feeling immediately registered in my head. We also had the camarones with capers. Fresh and succulent. The bocarones were delicious and just like the ones I had in Espana. We also had the piquillo, stuffed red peppers. Que bueno! They also had bocadillos on the menu and also churros, which I will try next time around. Seating is limited and first-come first serve. A nice couple left right when we arrived, so no waiting. A great place to start off the evening. Vino y tapas. Next stop, Madrid!
google avatar

Yelp
I give full 5 star here for the total experience. This is a wine bar mostly, food is limited as is the tiny space. However the menu selections of light tapas and Spanish small plates are fantastic for noshing while sampling any number of Spanish wines. Wine selections ranges from most modest (but excellent) to the rarest and most pricey. Ditto for the sherries. Causal friendly service, tiny cozy space, perfect place to spend some quality time quaffing great wines with a little nosh on side.
google avatar

S J.

Yelp
Us: "Why are the churros cold?" Bar dude: "Because it was already made." WTF It was a perfect moment of foreshadowing - Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" was playing in the background and that summarized this place and where it sits among the litter of tapas places that dare to corrupt my beautiful city with their mediocrity. I don't think anybody will notice if this one bites the dust - the folks in the neighborhood will undoubtedly move on to the next undifferentiated tapas bar. Maybe those others will even have warm churros to offer. Oh, the coffee was really good here. Saved it from being a one star stinker.

Yelp
A cute, tiny tapas bar that gets super crowded. Get there early and try to snag the seats at the window, the best place to sit, in my opinion. The head waiter was very nice and helpful. The other waiters were more rushed and cared more about bussing than allowing you to enjoy your food. They came by several times to try to take our plates before we were done. We spent about $60 per person for two women, and we shared a bottle of wine. I was happily full! The Spanish omelet is very good. Normally, I don't like this dish, but theirs was simple and delish. We didnt go full-on splurge mode and went for the Jamon Serrano instead of the iberico. We were happy with the choice. Although, I would recommend getting both if you're up for a lot of Jamon! We also shared the olives, meat and cheese plate, bocadillo, and flan. I would stick the the two Jamon plates and the Spanish omelet, and probably do the pan con tomate. Make sure to ask for olive oil so you can dip your bread.

Yelp
Bar Jamon is really a gem of a place. Right next to Casa Mono, it's a great place to stop by for some wine and tapas. It's absolutely tiny, with a couple communal high tables, and maximum capacity I believe of 35 people. I came on Sunday night with a friend at 630pm, and there was no wait thankfully. I've also come late on a Sunday night ~9pm and there was only a minimal wait. It's dimly lit and quite chattery / loud, and overall has great ambience. Wine and food are both amazing, but what I love the most here is the service... the servers are all extremely tentative and friendly. Not overbearing at all, and checking in on us at all the right times. The wine list was extensive, and the food written on a chalkboard above the bar. It's separated into Vegetables, Cheese, Meats, and Fish, and they're all charcuterie or tapa style. We had the Beets with valdeon and Blueberries, Fluke Ceviche, Manchego and a goat cheese that wasn't on the menu, Jamon Iberico. The manchego, goat cheese, and jamon iberico came out first with a generous helping of crunchy-crusted bread, all of which was delicious. Then the fluke ceviche and beets, both of which were amazing. I loved the sweetness of the blueberries with the beets in particular. We also splurged and got the churros + chocolate for dessert. They actually take ~15 minutes to prepare, so maybe order before you're finished with your food if you're in a rush. They were worth the wait though! Crispy and served with a dollop of melted chocolate, coated in sugar... scrumptious. Bar Jamon has become a favourite of mine for wine, snacks, or a full dinner. I'd love to come back!

Yelp
Tiny and dim, w/ more sex appeal per sq. inch than most high-end eateries; Bar jamon is awesome! As a single diner, I was treated very well by the multi-tasking counter guys. They made excellent recommendations ( it might have helped that I'm familiar w/ Tapas & know a wee bit of spanish) and gave me an extra plate of pan con tomate. All in all, excellent vibe & service, reasonable price, and food was damn good (best bocadillo ever!), they only lose 1 star for a cold tortilla ( I know tradition is room temp, but it was in the window on a brisk night ) As I said, SEXY! So get a sexy date (or not), put on some sexy clothes (or not), and eat some sexy tapas!!

Yelp
The dimly lit room was at capacity with 20+ patrons, which already proved too much to handle for 2 waiters alternating between the bar and tables. (A side of olive oil took 30 minutes). The room was very loud, but conversation can still be carried on effectively. Tapas and wine are ordered at the bar. Good size portions with my following favorites: Quail En Ecabeche (served cold with figs), Trout with Avruga Caviar, and Jamon Serrano Fermin. Parties of two or three would be most ideal without feeling cramped, as well as being more likely to be seated within a short amount of time.

SUPER small... We showed up late (around 11:30 pm) on a Friday night and there were no spots available, and not really anywhere to wait for a spot inside. We were awkwardly standing by the door to the kitchen and having to move every time someone came in or out of it. This might not be a problem when the weather is nice and you can wait outside, but it was about 2 degrees and that was not an option. Luckily, we only had to wait about 15 minutes. The tables are all communal. There's only 3 long high-top tables in total in the whole place. The menu is on the blackboard and there is an extensive printed wine list (with some very pricey bottles). The octopus was great but the jamon I found to be just okay (funny given the name). We ordered one of the "cheap" ($80) bottles and it was also just okay. I'd come here if I lived in the area and was meeting a friend for a glass of wine, but wouldn't go out of my way for it nor would I come here for a full meal.

Yelp
I've been to Casa Mono before but this was my first time at Bar Jamon. My friend and I came on the early side of the evening so it was easy to get a spot within the small taperia. Immediately I knew I would like the place as the atmosphere and setting does make it feel like an authentic taperia. It can easily fit in among the more contemporary and fashionable tapas spots of Barcelona or Madrid. And the wine list, while not particularly extensive, was quite good. The food was also very good. We ordered olives, jamon serrano, 2 kinds of cheese, and an indulgent crostini with foie gras. It was a simple yet fantastic spread and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely not mind being a regular here.

Yelp
Simple quaint spot. Reminds you of a drop in bar in Spain. Great wine list and amazing service. I let the proprietor order for me. I enjoyed one cheese offering, 2 pescado servings and two carne samples. Best I tasted was a ceviche dish. The flavor for all was amazing. I will return.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place on a date once when we were trying to get into Casa Mono (sister restaurant). We had planned to have a drink here until our table was ready but ended up just staying here because the wine selection was fantastic and food was really tasty. We ordered a few cheeses and jamon as well as the Spanish tortilla. All delicious. Bartenders very helpful with wine selection too. It's a cute spot in union square area and fills up pretty quickly especially on the weekdays after work

Yelp
Never disappoints! Great small plates and a big selection of wines. Always busy but despite that service is always good. One of those places you always go back for glass of good wine.

Yelp
Small bites but they are all delicious and impressive wine list. Staff was on point on all my visits. Limited seating but adds to the intimacy of the place. Tad bit pricey but expected.

Yelp
I called last minute, thinking that they would be packed and wouldn't have a table. I was told by the hostess that if I come right now they do have availability. I rushed over, and much to my surprise I was notified they have no availability and that Casa Mono (twice the price next door and same ownership) has availability. This threw me for a loop, I did not appreciate the non-communication and essentially the lie I received. Will not be coming back- sorry, you guys lost 3 customers.

Yelp
Love this place! The service was amazing - our waiter was very attentive and genuinely nice, giving us great recommendations for food and wine, which were all 100% on point. The pulpo and burrata were both great but the ribeye tartar was the show stopper! It's truly phenomenal and best saved for last!

Yelp
Very cute place with endless selection of high end wines. No kitchen area means almost al the dishes are cold or prepared earlier and warmed up. Pricey plates with small portions can leave you broke after a night out. Too many other choices for tapas wine bar to ever go back.

Yelp
Great selection of cured meats to share. Decent wine selection. You sit at a communal table with others since space is so tight. Staff is friendly. Bathroom door doesn't lock. Very good location and walkable.

Yelp
After a great night at Casa Mono, we stopped at their nextdoor brother bar for some churros and a last glass of wine. Place is tiny, with bar stools only for seating, which is fun and allows you to interact w others. Their churro is fenomenal, and we shared a very good garrafe of rose. Service was excellent.

Yelp
Gramercy staple, best for wine and lights snacks. Bar Jamon has been a date night staple for many years. They specialize in Spanish wines, catering to a wide variety of palettes and preferences. The menu is split into a by the glass/carafe/ bottle section and a vintage/pick-of-the-cellar section that can cater to both new wine drinkers and seasoned enthusiasts. The space is small and intimate (read: dark wood, mood lighting) best for groups of two and no more than four. It can get a little crowded after peak dinner hours on the weekends, but is typically low key. The service is attentive but unhurried, leaving you to enjoy your wine and company. Note, since it is only Spanish wines the menu leans heavily toward whites and reds, with a very minimal rosé selection.
