Part of the same family that brought you "Goodnight Sonny," which is right across the street, this is primarily a bar with a few bites.
For a snack, I had the potato and pepper coquettes. Crispy on the outside. Hot, soft, and flavorful on the inside.
For a refresher, I had the melon salad (watermelon, honeydew melon, and pineapple--ok, we all know pineapple isn't a melon). It was tossed with fresh (really) basil, habanero vinaigrette, and tajin. I don't even LIKE watermelon, and this made me love it.
This spot (I think) mainly touts a Mexican/Latin inspired menu. I'm addition to what I had, they serve octopus, oysters, prawn, guac dishes, and more. The mushroom crepe looked interesting.
As far as cocktails, most are tequila or mezcal based, though there are a few made with corn whiskey. I had the What-A-Melon, made with tequila, watermelon, pineapple, lemon, and pink peppercorn. It was light, slightly tart, and refreshing. I also had, at the server's recommendation, the Honey Trap, which is a little more smoky--blanco tequila, lemon, ginger, smoked honey, and bee pollen salt. Perfect contrast to the first drink.
My server was gorgeous and just the right mix of "checking on you" and "not fawning over you." The place wasn't crowded.
Check was a little hefty at 63.15 (before tip) for two cocktails, three croquettes, and a fruit salad. But it is New York, and everything was very good.
This is not a main event stop. It's more of a place you go if you want a rest and a drink while out exploring the neighborhood, or after work snacks and cocktails, or a spot to go if you're not quite ready for dinner, and you'd like some good booze and elevated nosh.
I plan on concocting my own spicy melon salad at home!
