Best Restaurants in Soho, NYC | Eater NY

"This tavern-meets-wine-bar from restaurateur John McDonald and chef Preston Clark is a new crowd-pleaser that feels like it’s always been there — with its black-and-red checkered floors, bistro seats, and friendly little bar. Order pigs in a blanket, a zippy hamachi crudo, fish and chips, or the stellar pork chop with a white wine and mushroom sauce. The wine list will hold your interest." - Melissa McCart

Stopped in after realizing that the former Bar Tulix reopened as Bar Mercer. Got a dozen oysters which were super fresh, grilled gambas, and a few cocktails. They had a decent selection of wines and champagne at the usual Soho prices. Even their house wine though was very good, nice and light and not too sweet. Overall really great. Kind of a funky vibe inside in terms of the decor and music which I enjoyed. It felt “different” in a good way. Will definitely be back to try more of their food!

Our hostess Amaris was an absolute gem, she warmly accommodated our walk in at a busy time and was very charming. If it wasn’t for her flexibility in navigating our odd-sized group (5), we may not have been sat. Our server, Marco, was a complete professional, everything came out quick and on point. Bar Mercer is an inviting take on new American dining and drinks. A much needed refresh from the previous format of this location - this is a place to check out now! Was the perfect drinks and apps drop off point for me and my boys after a day of shopping in soho. Next time I’ll bring my girl for dinner! I will be frequenting this place more. Loved the vibe!

Came here for a drink/cocktail after a movie and this place is so beautiful inside. We sat at the bar and had two stunningly great cocktails. I got the Sour Patch sour (I believe it was called) and it’s phenomenal. It was a bourbon drink with a taste of pear and ginger honey. My husband got the margarita which was also very very good, and had carrot juice in it was such a different but layered taste to the drink. The vibes are stellar for a date night and the staff was so so nice and helpful. Def recommend, especially if you’re looking for a drink stop post movie outing!

I wanted to love it but the food was just okay. The cocktails were excellent though. If you stop by it may be more for happy hour but the burger isn’t nearly what the TikTok hype made it out to be.

If you like dining at Lure this is an alternative option. Really enjoyed the branzino and hangover pasta. Deviled eggs and oysters were also very good. The berries dessert wasn’t my favorite but I’d be back to try the chocolate crème brûlée.

These mixologists are so friendly, sweet, and knowledgeable! The drinks are crafted with love and care. The gentleman behind the bar even lit a drink on fire for me to celebrate my birthday 😂 Check the video! 10/10 recommend

Yelp
We discovered this spot while exploring the bustling streets of SoHo, and we're so glad we did! We sat at the bar and were well taken care of by Lucca. We ordered the fish and chips, as well as the steak frites. The portions were generous; the fish and chips came with malt vinegar and mushy peas. The steak, which I ordered medium, was cooked to perfection and topped with fresh chimichurri sauce. The ambiance was classy, and the music, featuring retro and Motown tunes, set the perfect tone for an afternoon of relaxation, enjoying our food and drinks. A big thank you to Lucca for the impeccable service!

Yelp
We stopped by to toast a birthday on last night with a 730P reservation. I loved the vibe, the crowd and the drinks were amazing. The bartender was friendly and engaging, but the kitchen and runners did not live up to expectations. Personally, I ordered grilled oysters and well-done fries. The oysters arrived, but I finished them before the "undercooked" fries arrived. The bartender happily requested a redo of the fries, and the replacements also arrived "undercooked" with the runner saying "an order of fries, well done" (him obviously knowing they were not as he read the slip, but opting not to correct his mistake albeit innocent). The really funny part was that the actual order of obviously golden and well done fries were delivered to a table close by and we couldn't help but notice as the patrons commented on how amazingly crispy they were (we even showed the bartender). Still hungry, I then ordered fried oysters that never came, but we decided to move on to dessert at the next "you guys doing okay" moment and ordered the berry pie: which also needed management intervention to get to the table about 20 minutes later. Knowing the overall experience was a flop, the bartender offered a nightcap on the house and comped the dessert, but we'd like a do-over - the grilled oysters were amazing. We really, really wanted to enjoy this place, and wish them success!

Yelp
Pretty weird circumstances (late night at work and wanting shelter from the rain) but I arrived hungry and left hungry. Prawns were good though smaller than I've had at other restaurants in NYC. Filet was good but nowhere near Boucherie, etc. Considering that the restaurant wasn't crowded, the food service was too slow.

Yelp
What a cool spot with a beautiful interior and vibe. Mercer Street Hospitality has quite a collection of great restaurants. We're Lure longtime customers and when we couldn't get a reservation pivoted to Bar Mercer and were not disappointed. Different menu offerings but same excellent food. "Service by Marco" was on point and the cocktails were excellent.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never been to this GEM of a restaurant before a few weeks ago. The vibe, service, and food were truly special on many counts. The seasonal appetizers were scrumptious. The specialty cocktails and wines by the glass were superb. If I lived in NYC this would be on my regular go-to list. They make you feel right at home. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
We stopped by Bar Mercer after a movie at the Angelika and loved the dimly lit, steakhouse-style vibe that reminded us of the Polo Bar. We sat at the bar, had a few glasses of house wine, and shared a side of steak fries. The bartender was incredibly personable and shared stories about their life and the restaurant. The conversation made the experience memorable, and we're already planning to come back for dinner.

Yelp
We were on our way to a dinner reservation and wanted to grab a drink nearby and saw this bar/restaurant nearby. The hostess was very welcoming and allowed our party of 7 to sit and grab a few drinks at the bar. The ambiance, music, and hospitality is 12/10. Our bar tender, Michael, was super friendly and enthusiastic serving us our drinks. We will definitely be back!
