The Best Date Night Restaurants In Mexico City - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"Not into dramatic, candle-lit restaurants that make you feel like you’re in a gothic romance novel? Newcomer Bar Nino is the move. This spot nails the sophisticated-but-low-key energy, and an Italian-Mediterranean menu that’s all about elevated classics—think prosciutto and melon, and delicate housemade ravioli. Adding to the charm is polished service that never feels stiff and not overly splurgy prices that don’t call for awkward check-splitting at the end. And if the date’s going well, head next door to its sister bar, Hugo, for more wines by the glass." - guillaume guevara

The Hit List: New Mexico City Restaurants To Try Right Now - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"The team behind Hugo wine bar has a new place on the corner of Avenida Veracruz and Sinaloa called Bar Nino (yes, it originally opened with no name and no Instagram account). A trip here will make you feel like an insider—so come on a date and impress them with your connections. Start with the panzanella salad, where croutons get a tangy kick from dijon mustard and vinegar, and pair it with a dirty martini. They’ll arrive like gifts from the gods, and that’s due in large part to the top-notch service—think attentive-but-not-overbearing fine dining without the sticker shock. The cozy setting will make it hard to leave, especially after you’ve tried their rich, dense tres leches cake." - guillaume guevara

Bar Nino is a bit of a hidden gem tucked away in Condesa, and it’s only been around for about eight months. They’re keeping a pretty low profile, so it feels like the kind of spot mostly locals know about. It’s definitely on the upscale side, and they have a great selection of wine along with some really tasty seafood snacks. We tried the squid with mandarin sauce, and it was honestly delicious—definitely a highlight. The atmosphere is cozy and corner-side, and we noticed a few birthday celebrations happening, which added a nice lively touch. Overall, it’s a great spot if you’re in the mood for something a bit special but still local and under the radar.

The squid entree was very nice, the meatballs were also very good. Potato puree was uninteresting and the anchovy pasta was salty to the point of being inedible (and I adore anchovies and anchovy pasta so this isn’t a question of being unaware of what anchovies are like). Overall it was an okay experience but certainly not as good as the price would indicate.
