"Eater’s 2017 Restaurant of the Year Bar Normandy will close down after service next Saturday, September 8. Chef/owner Alex Lira said that the owners of the Jacobson building, which houses the eatery on the first floor, told him he could no longer cook in the evenings and gave him a week’s notice to evacuate. The owners were not available for comment when Eater called." - Erin Perkins

We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered including oysters so fresh and delicious that we had to order another round. My friend who disliked oysters in the past tried and liked them!

Fabulous. This place is absolutely lovely. The oysters are to die for. Chef Alex brings a sense of familiarity and fun, not just to the food but to the atmosphere also. The food is fresh and delectable. Despite the small location the atmosphere is charged. I recommend this place for dinner or night out with friends

One of my favorite dining experiences. The locals are lucky to have this. Dana and I had a fantastic time. The food was awesome. It was our first time visiting Charleston and the locals mentioned this place most often. Chef Alex is a great host. We said give us everything on the board and keep our glasses full and he did. The care he takes shucking his cold water oysters so as to retain the natural brine, topped with cold smoked caviar and drizzled with jalapeno water, is nonpareil. We had beef hearts, cornmeal mush, bone marrow bernaise and trout roe among the courses and it all was delicious. Leave your expectations at home and trust that you will enjoy what Alex prepares.

Good vibe, quite casual but very nice. Service is very attentive and food is awesome. They have a short but interesting menu. Try the root soup! 100% recommended, is an authentic place!

How is it that this place is closing while tourist traps are thriving? Beyond me. Maybe the eccentric hours? Big crowd tonight. Super food. Beautiful location. Makes the "hot" small places seem pathetically inferior and over priced.

Trust the man who tells you what wine to get, and order all the oysters.
