Bar Nuri - Review - El Poblenou - Barcelona - The Infatuation

"Catalans love a hearty stew, and none more so than mandonguilles amb sipia, or meatballs and cuttlefish. The one at Bar Nuri, a loud, boisterous bar beloved by Poble Nou locals for a casual mid-week dinner, is a minced meat affair, with beef, pork, and the secret ingredient pork jowl to make the softest, juiciest balls you’ll ever taste. As for the cuttlefish, they’re so tender you’d imagine they hadn’t done a hard day’s work in their lives. Mar i montanya translates as sea and mountain (or surf n’ turf) and refers to where the ingredients in many classic Catalan recipes come from. Barcelona’s tapas menus are full of these (like white beans with baby calamari or rice topped with squid and morcilla or pork ribs and red shrimp), but mandonguilles amb sipia is the one that makes us go all dewy-eyed. Good, but not great. The outdoor seating looked nice, but was a) booked out b) a bit odd that you had to pay extra for the food if eaten outside Service was fine, but nothing extraordinary. The mixed salad was outstanding. Great flavour, fresh, high quality oil. Everything else ranged from average ( the patatas bravas really were too heavy with sauce and mayonnaise) to good.

Rating: 2B ✌🏽 The tapas were really good, with a nice variety and excellent flavor. The service was impeccable — very attentive and friendly at all times. One thing we really appreciated was the calm atmosphere. You can talk and enjoy a conversation without excessive noise or stress. The cava sangria was also a highlight — refreshing and delicious, definitely worth trying. Also, the restrooms were very clean, which definitely adds points to the overall experience.

We were invited to this restaurant and chose to sit inside, but it has also a fair number of outdoor seating. The decor was original with barrels under the benches which were comfy with their cushions. The food was delicious! We had potato bravas - the spicy sauce was smoky and spicy, the Iberian ham croquettes were the best we had in Barcelona flavoursome and not mushy, calamari, octopus and even the fries with ham and egg was tasty. As main we had black rice paella with a big octopus, both perfectly cooked. The service was also impeccable and friendly. The starters ranged from ~6€-12€, the paella was for 2 people ~22€ pp.

Best patatas bravas 😍 very nice tasty food. Everything we ate was absolutely tasty, good quality, clean and well presented. I have to say its well priced and well quality place! Outside terrace is so cool to sit and sip a drink and watch local Life. Will come back! Waiter was also nice and helpful. Thanks❤️

When I arrived, the outdoor tables were full, but they kindly gave me a spot at the bar, and soon after a table became available. The draft beer was creamy and the dish was sensational. I recommend it.

The place is very safe, and the food is great and local. If you’re looking for a Catalan experience, try this place. Be sure to ask for a Cava and Bravas, and try some local Jamón. We reserved a table for the next day because it exceeded our expectations.

Visited on 2024-10-22 on my own for a late dinner (~10:00pm), the staff were friendly and service was fast (but maybe because there were very few people when I got there) the croquette was Really good (highly recommend), freshly made, fluffy and light in the middle with a thin crispy crust. I’d not recommend the tortilla though, perhaps because I arrived quite late, the Spanish omelette was a bit hard and dry. Mussels were fine. I’d be interested to revisit at an earlier hour to check out their other dishes and the vibe, bet the experience would be quite different 😅
