Best New Bars in NYC: June 2025 | Eater NY

"This is the latest see-and-be-seen bar to hit Lower Manhattan, this one from a group of partners that includes the owner of the wine bar Casetta, and the restaurant Casino, alongside Daniel and Evan Bennett of Babs and Mimi, and Jonas Lafortezza. Bar Oliver has a drink menu of French and Spanish wines, brews, and a compelling collection of vermouth. Gildas, grilled eggplant, Montauk shrimp, tortillas, and mushrooms are listed among pinxtos and small plates. Walk-ins encouraged." - Emma Orlow

Joe Jonas's Favorite Neighborhood Hangs - New York - The Infatuation

"“Bar Oliver is a really cool, lowkey spot, with beer and wine and good Spanish tapas. The same people do Casino and Casetta as well—all their food is really good. It’s in such a cute little corner, and they've got great outdoor seating for when the sun finally doesn't play games with us and stays around. I get an Estrella Galicia beer and the tortilla española. Their mushrooms were really good the last time I went. And of course, the croqueta. Splitting my time between here and Miami, you can never go wrong with a croqueta.”" - molly fitzpatrick

Josh Duboff’s Favorite NYC Neighborhood Haunts - New York - The Infatuation

"“I’ll be honest: I was heavily swayed here by the fact that this bar is located at the intersection of Oliver and Henry Streets (which happen to be the names of two central characters in my book). That aside, this bar is also incredibly fun. I drank a delicious Kalimotxo there, and it did truly feel like I was in Europe, which I mean as an extreme compliment. This would also be an excellent first date spot.”" - brennan carley

Bar Oliver - Review - Two Bridges - New York - The Infatuation

"When you see a wheel-sized tortilla española land at the end of the stainless steel bar, that’s an invitation. Bar Oliver in Two Bridges is, technically, a great place to drink and merge with a crowd that drifted south from Dimes Square, but if you aren’t also grabbing a bite here, you’re doing it wrong. Think San Sebastian with a touch of Madrid. The Basque-style spot, from the owner of Casino and the team behind Doubles in Amagansett, is equipped with wine, pintxos, and vermouth on tap. In the narrow room with flea market light fixtures and a 10-foot painting from Julian Schnabel, you can loiter with a glass of Rioja, claim a stool and dig into a chunky slice of tortilla, or even have a full dinner. photo credit: Bryan Kim There are a few tables along the wall you can book in advance, and, for now, there are a couple of entrees supplementing the snacks. The crisped-up wagyu hanger is our top pick, but don’t ignore the specials, like thick-cut bonito in escabeche so rare it melts into the surrounding onions and olive oil." - Bryan Kim

Google
3.5 🌟 It’s definitely a hot spot based on the location, vibe, and type of people that come by on a Friday night. The space itself doesn’t lend too well to dine in on a Friday night since it can get busy and we were bumped into while seated a few times. I wouldn’t come here starving, but rather to enjoy some bites with your drinks. The shrimp pintxos and hanger steak were both really good. Don’t bother with the side salad; nothing to it but lettuce and some dressing.

Finally, made it here for lunch on July 4th!!! Vibe is really cool and the food was good - I ordered way too much but got to take the leftovers home. I ordered the cheese plate, the mortadella, the Pan Con Tomate (which is toasted bread with a very delicious tomato sauce that you spoon on the bread) and the Matrimonio (a selection of 2 different kinds of anchovies). It's a beautiful spot and I especially loved the 2 Schnabel paintings on the wall (apparently Schnabel's sons are two of the partners). Bar Oliver is a great addition to the neighborhood - it's not 100% there yet but shows lots of promise.

Wow wow wow- I just left Bar Oliver for the first time. Well done lads. That was bloody incredible. The food was perfect - I’m obsessed with the manager (ex pro baller as well!) The little pinchos or guinchos or whatever they’re called were off the scale. The Jamon plate with warm bread was lovely. The branzino was so beautiful and delicious…. And then the wagyu hanger!! we got the hanger cos the only Ribeye left was $280 and mum and Dave wanted fish so it was too much…. But my god hanger can normally be plain, tough, and not that tasty but bloody hell , it was so perfectly cooked and with the orangey shit below it….ugh! I loved the chips too and the salad. Insane meal, feeling very buff walking out. Still a touch loud for me but I’m buzzing. Well done lads!!!! Xxx

Very unusual bar in the border of China town. We loved every small tapa, perfect sized and quite well executed. The place is perfect for the evening glass of wine, and it is pleasant place to visit.

This place has so much potential but the service is so bad here. Drinks are decent and their food actually tastes good but 1) the staff don’t know what’s on the menu, 2) they serve food without cutlery, 3) they don’t take orders from outside and 4) they are rather rude on interaction. Won’t be rushing back here.

This is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. I enjoy coming here for great coffee in the morning and great wine in the evening. The staff here is excellent—every visit has been a pleasure. Even without a reservation, they’ve always managed to graciously accommodate us. The folks that work here are mighty neighborly. The atmosphere is impeccable, with a beautifully designed bar and a superb selection of natural wines. That said, the food leaves something to be desired. The green salad is decent if you enjoy something simple, and the fries are solid. However, the tapas feel underwhelming. For example, the $15 shrimp on a small slice of baguette is disappointing, both in portion and presentation. Paying $6 for a single Gilda is disheartening. While the potato salad is tasty if you're a fan of the dish, and the pan con tomate has good flavors, the portions all around are too small to justify the price. Despite the food shortcomings, this spot shines for its early hours, fantastic coffee, and unbeatable wine selection. Come for the wine, the atmosphere, and the experience—it’s well worth the visit.

Had a delicious dinner at Bar Oliver last night. Stand out dishes-Tortilla Antonio, pan con tomato with jamon and manchego, wagyu steak, branzino, tomato salad, peppers, torrijas with ice cream and basque cheesecake. Service was great. Atmosphere is wonderful. You will be happy and well fed here!!

Started with some vermouth club soda floaters however there was a strength difference between the two same drinks, one felt a lot more diluted with club soda. The food was excellent. Everything from the mushrooms, eggplant and sardines was good. Make sure you ask for the little pinxtos menu. The cans were ordered off that. It started off chill but then a large party of birthday celebrators arrived and parked up on one high top right adjacent that made our dining experience a bit hectic towards the end. It's all good though they were having a good time. Service was friendly and with it being a pretty busy Saturday night and with all the birthday people, I think it was decently managed. It's tapas style and the canned pintxos are definitely the way to go, but it's easy over order. Definitely want to get the mushrooms with egg yolks and the eggplant dish if they're available. it's at least $40 per person and an excellent addition to the neighborhood. The coffee shop that is the precursor to this bar that's still there was known for carrying non American newspapers. Cool history, cool addition.

Yelp
Really charming corner bar, but very small and shoulder-to-shoulder busy. Friendly staff. We sat at the bar and had the potato salad (my favorite), chicken and ham croquetta (3 mini per flavor), and the fries which were served with ketchup and mayo. To drink we both had peach Bellinis which were excellent. The only reason I deducted a star is because it is really small and tight (but I guess that's New York for ya), and loud with no acoustical fixtures. Great local gem to try out!

Yelp
Five stars for the cool vibe and delicious bites at this still rather new but already hot Spanish bar/bistro on the cusp of Chinatown. Beer, wine and a array of vermouths. No spirits. Pintxos, never had before but would come back for more of these hand held treats, and the perfect hangar steak and fries. Great bar seating, reserve a table for more than two or choose an outdoor seat at small bistro tables along the front and side of a corner building.

Yelp
I've been talking by this spot for months now as we live in the area and its a natural navigation point. Sat at the bar on a cool-but-sunny Tuesday afternoon, and had a draft beer. I looked at their menu, but they were not cheap for me - nothing really like a pinxto/tapas. They had dry-aged steaks and other items but for serious $$$ I thought. Service seemed spotty to me, and this is obviously my opinion. I had fine service, but I sat for maybe 35min by myself just enjoying the time. I noticed significant times where there would be people waiting, and the service-team would be talking/huddling together; eventually someone would come over and engage. I twice tried to order some cheese, and some olives. I was going to ask about a glass of red wine. But no one asked me anything after giving me the beer, and I also had to work at getting attention to get the tab. So all I had was a draft (of two drafts available, both Spanish lager types), and my pre-tip bill was $13.76. It was not a large draft, and I would go so far as to classify it as a medium/small size. I tipped as well and left. I wish this place were better value, had more reasonable food options, and service was less sporadic.

Yelp
Generally speaking, I don't love the spillover of the Dimes Square aesthetic and vibe into Chinatown. But Bar Oliver is an undeniably cool Basque-leaning wine bar that's one of the better places in the city right now to grab a drink and some pintxos. We tried the pan con tomate, the tortilla, and the piquillo peppers marinated in olive oil, all of which were very good. At 6:30 it was easy to get a bar seat, but by 7 the place was packed.

Yelp
I suggest making a reservation here. The meal quantity made splitting convenient. This smaller establishment offers a clean, enjoyable setting with urban design elements. The workers deliver warm service and suggest truly satisfying dishes. I'm looking forward to coming back when in the area.

Yelp
Really cute bar on the outskirts of Chinatown, was packed on a Friday night with people grabbing drinks and bites with friends and some people on dates. The pintxos were delicious and I felt like I was back in San Sebastián! Highly recommend for great vibes and small tapas!

Yelp
It was a really nice place to get a cappuccino and crush on some chess, smoke a cig and eat some fries. They were really quick with all the food and bevs. I think the manager was talking to me but he chill and really helpful fr.

Yelp
Beautiful bar on Confucius Square with great drinks and small dishes. Seating inside and out. Cute chicks too.

Yelp
Warm, intimate, and serving some incredible wines. Lots of stainless steel & moody lighting, so perfect for a date or catch-up with a friend!
