The Downright Best Philly Dive Bars

"This lively dive bar in Center City has a wide array of cocktails, drafts, seltzers, ciders, and more. With a happy hour that has pints and cocktails that range from just $2 to $5.50 — this is the “more bang for your buck” spot." - Ernest Owens, Sarah Maiellano

Melfi's in Charleston Will Transport You to 1960s Italy | Bon Appétit

"Reitz and Mink nabbed their early 1900s Brunswick bar—prized in the antiques game—from an old tavern in Philly. The sapele counter and triple-arched backbar provide a nostalgic yet energetic focal point to the space." - ByJennifer Hope Choi

Bartender with the aviators rescued my dog from a fire. Big husky white bartender loaned me his Subaru Outback for a date (she loved it), bartender with the long hair and mustache helped me cheat in my math class, other bartender with the long hair makes a great vodka soda, bartender with the dreads helped my grandmother cross the street. Slim Jims cooked perfectly. Great first visit! I will be coming back.

Plain and simple, the name says all you need. Laid back bar. Small but cozy, I didn't make it upstairs. Kudos for having Bells Oberon on tap. I sat and people watched while I sipped. Everyone was enjoying the good vibes.

Visited here from London last year. Dive bars like this simply don't exist in Central London anymore, so great that they're still alive and well in Central Philly. Place was very welcoming and laid back, great emo/hardcore tunes.

If you’re looking for a great laid back dive bar…. This is your spot. The bartenders make you feel welcome, the actually try to have conversations with you… and have great personalities!

Extensive beer list in cans. Not so much on draft. And we had to wait about 15 minutes to close out because the only bartender on staff was outside smoking.

This hidden gem of a bar stands out as one of the most underrated establishments in the area, offering a delightful experience for patrons. Nestled in the heart of the neighborhood, it exudes a sense of community that truly makes it a great local haunt. What sets it apart is not only the ambiance but also the staff, whose politeness and hospitality transcend expectations. They have a remarkable ability to make every visitor, even those stepping in for the first time, feel like they belong, fostering a welcoming environment that is both rare and refreshing. In essence, it's not just a bar; it's a hub where people become regulars from their very first visit.

Came on Monday and was transported back to 2008, emo and post-hardcore music playlist was on point. Simple good drinks, great Christmas lighting. Cool bartender had helpful recommendations for other places nearby.

They have the BEST pickeback shots. It’s worth going just for those. This is a classic unassuming Philly bar as it is aptly named. It’s reasonably priced for its location. It’s mostly counter seating that I’ve noticed. They have some drink specials.
