Where to Find the Best Polish Food in London | Eater London

"A comfortable, boozy refuge by the Holborn tube. Stick to small plates: dumplings, chopped herring and onions, salty lard on bread, and fried sausage halves will do wonders to keep you going against an extensive drinks list. Try a wide selection of Polish beers, or use the bartender like a sommelier to tour the various grain types and dry or sweet infusions on the vodka list. Lesser-known options include syrupy and aromatic fruit wines, and brandies with paint-strippingly high proofs." - Stephen Buranyi

Google
I enjoyed my visit there. The staff were friendly and helpful in helping me to find gluten-free options. The service was quick too. However, they got the wrong order for me. I would be interested in trying some of the alcohol selections next time I come back.

Google
Simple bar that is just perfect. Delicious and authentic Polish food, reasonable prices and incredible alcohol selection (vodka and beers!) ! The interior could do with tiny improvement to take it to next level but that’s it! Love this place - often come back.

Google
This Polish bar is located in a small street, difficult to notice but once you’re in there, you got to try their different options in vodka. I’ve managed to try a couple and have loved the Pistachios flavour the most and their coffee liqueur!! I don’t think you would find these varieties else where. The food is delicious too. I would recommend the mushroom dumplings to start with. Highly recommend, cute and cosy place with wonderful staff :)

Google
Huge selection of vodkas, amazing polish food and a great atmosphere. The staff is always super nice and giving recommendations. The potato fritters and fried pierogi are always our go-to, with the 3x dips to accompany. Vodka-wise, hazelnut chocolate shots are a must! Favourite bar in London!

Google
Good beer and good food. The service is good and the staff is polite. The decor is decent and has both indoor and outdoor seating. It's a peaceful place.

Google
Excellent selection of beer and vodka. Yummy Polish food. Fantastic and very friendly staff. Highly recommended for great night out or just for quick snack and drink

wee gems

Google
A nice little pub of a little alleyway. They have big patio doors opening up to the alleyway where there a 2/3 tables outside. The place had about 20 peeps in, and it was cosy. The drink prices were ok for London

Google
I like people working in this place. There's wide selection of Polish beers, including ones from my home town. The food is quite ok, though regional differences give me this "not home made" feeling. But the share plate of potato pancakes is a great idea loved by all of my non Polish friends. After the pandemic the yours of operation had changed, so did the menu, unfortunately. The good food is still there, though in smaller quantities and there are less to choose from the menu.

Yelp
This place seems a bit like a college bar at first, then you find two things. 1) the vodka is good and really inexpensive 2) the food is fantastic. I had the mixed pierogi platter and a small half kielbasa platter and it was the best polish food I've had in London. Hands down. Service is friendly and prompt. Well done!!!

Yelp
The place was a great place to meet with friends for a few drinks and a couple of different foods than found on a normal bar menu. We had some Polish beer along with some perogies. The beet soup was heavenly. The staff was friendly and courteous to us. A good place to go to meet with a few people.

Yelp
Fantastic Polish food at cheap prices. Six VERY filling and delicious pierogis and a giant bowl of beetroot soup with cabbage dumplings for £10. #winning. I got a mixed veg option and my friend got the full assortment option (including meat) and we both agreed the cheese stuffed one was incredible. With the mushroom sauce as an option, we were quite pleased. My friend also got the kielbasa "snack" and it smelled delicious and she said tasted even better. There is a full stocked Polish vodka menu but we opted for a Polish raspberry spirit that was amazing and cheap! Two shots for £3.50 over rocks. The place was dead this past Saturday night which was a relief. Last time my friends and I stopped by, it was jammed and the music was deafening, so we dispiritedly left. This time, my friend and I arrived here shortly after 6pm when the bar opened. But even when we left around 9:30, it was almost empty. I would totally come back here!!

Yelp
A little tough to find, but worth it. I had a Polish beer on tap and the pierogi plate with a salad. Half the plate was the salad - fresh with a good balance of dressing. The other half of the plate were the delicious homemade pierogis. The menu has a lot on it, including plenty of vodkas. The space is modern yet cozy. I enjoyed my meal - filling and hit the spot!

Yelp
How a place can be so hidden in Covent Garden is beyond me. But for some of the best Polish food I've ever had in the world (including in Poland), wandering through back alleys in London's theater district is worth it! First and foremost, this place is a traditional Polish bar with a joyful (loud) crowd and music blasting overhead. So it's not a great place for quiet conversation. The space is very sparse and old school with the friendly proprietors working right behind the wooden bar, explaining to the uninitiated the wonders of Polish food (and for those patrons who dare to partake, the further wonders of Polish vodka in little shot glasses). While I did not drink shots of vodka, which seemed to come with a class from the owner on how to properly drink them, I did get the food and it was wonderful. Starting with the beetroot soup, which satisfied the hunger as an appetizer since it was rich and warm, I proceeded to their Ruskie Pierogis. Each one seemed like it was buttered individually as it melted in my mouth. The problem was they were a bit on the smaller side and at a pound a pierogi, I wish they came in more vegetarian flavors (or more flavors than the three offered in general). The Ruskie with its farmer's cheese (covered in brown onions with sour cream on the side as it should be) were outstanding but I hate mushrooms so the other choice was not good for me. The side of that classic Polish dish (hey, it does have potato in it) french fries costing only a pound fifty made for a full meal though. The pierogi portion is definitely not large enough to split. And with how good they tasted, you won't want to share them anyway.

Yelp
Dirt cheap shots of vodka? ...and not just plain but a menu of flavors!!! lots and lots of flavors! Oh the vodka lover in me shines through like a care bear staring. My top tip is to pick a couple of flavors, get a pint and you can drink and take some sips of your shots (yes, these are sipping shots, they're too good to take in one go!). A little out of the way, but still draws in a crowd... if you can get a table, you'll be golden but they're few and far between, so do your best vulture 'circle, spy and dive' and stake out your spot so you can have a place to set all of your little glasses of deliciousness. I'm not sure I'd make a total night of it here, but it's certainly a good place to start out a night or have a catch up with a few cheeky spirits.

Yelp
Even if you're not a fan of vodka, this place is definitely worth going to. The vodka selection is incredible and the drinks are unique and fantastic. Bragging a variety of infused vodkas, the prices are reasonable and the staff warm and friendly. The decor is a little stark, but this is the kind of place that you stop into to have a couple of drinks and then move down the street to a pub (I would recommend the Ship's Tavern, which is just down the way). Alternatively, this is a great place to stop by at the end of the night, to leave a pleasant after-taste in your mouth and warm up your belly as you head home.

Yelp
Reading the reviews, I was excited to go here. Unfortunately I found some rude bits and pieces that will ensure that I won't go back. Firstly, the beers were incredibly expensive. I'm not sure who they import these from, but it was way above normal London prices - even for Polish beers. Secondly, the pierogi were VERY heavy and tasteless. Thirdly, I watched as the owner tried his best to humiliate an adult woman at the door after she finished using the bathroom. We're all sympathetic to shop owners who have the burden of randoms using the toilets without coming to the restaurants. However, this was different. He refused to let her leave without a paying a pound to him - as in, the manager/owner's arm was across the door refusing exit. She asked him to move, and he refused. THEN she told him that she was sorry, and that it was an emergency. He STILL wouldn't let her go. It wasn't until 10-15 lines were exchanged did he actually move to let her go.. I felt so uncomfortable, I lost my appetite. It was even weirder because there weren't any signs that said "customers only on the bathroom". Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Yelp
Amazing little place! shall undoubtedly become a frequent haunt of mine as Vodka is the true love of my life! So many different vodkas to choose from, so little time! I highly recommend the Bison Vodka and the amaretto flavoured one (I'd tell you the name but I've forgotten...and no, I'm not drunk yelping, only tipsy yelping so HA!) the Pierogis are to die for, I got a combonation of the potato/cheese and the meat. Nom Nom, with the garlic dip, twas AMAZING! Is this a place you want to go crazy and dance at? No. But for me, considering I would rather have a conversation with someone while slowly getting more drunk as the minutes go by, it's a winner. Also, a shout out to the amazingly sweet Polish guy who owns the place--super nice. Will be back, you amazing Poles, you!

Yelp
If you like vodka then this is definately your place. I have never seen so many different kinds of vodka in one place. Everyone must be able to find a flavour to their liking. If you're not a vodka drinker then this bar is still well worth a visit as the bar is unlike any other I have visited in London.

Yelp
Bar Polski is a hidden gem in the heart of London, located down winding alleys in Holborn it can be quite tricky to find unless you know where you're going. Persevere however and you will find a most peculiar bar dedicated to that Eastern European favourite vodka. The decor of this place is a little sparse and underdressed, I felt peculiarly like I was in a hospital waiting room or a leisure centre. However the main attraction to this place is to be found in their incredibly extensive drinks menu. Boasting over 50 different varieties of vodka, Bar Polski offers a description of each of the vodkas on offer and the staff are always willing to help you in your choice. Knowing nothing about vodka myself I took to closing my eyes and pointing at the menu. This isn't your standard Smirnoff or Glen's vodka, this stuff is smooth, sliding gently down the throat to nestle in and warm your belly. After the first few drinks however you might fancy a change from hard liquer but unfortunately that's not really an option here, it's pretty much vodka or nothing. As such you find the novelty of this place wearing off pretty quick and with precious little else to entice you to stay, Bar Polski hasn't become he famed nightspot it could have been.

Yelp
Great place for a (relatively) quiet drink in Holborn in an area that's jam-packed with crowded pubs. I stumbled in to Bar Polsi recently having all but forgotten its existence for years, and will now be doing my best to remember it's there when I'm next in the area. There's a huge selection of Polish vodkas in various flavours here, as well as loads of interesting beers. The food is well worth a try: all cooked on site and a great accompaniment to your drinks. I had a delicious stew and fries last time I dropped in, and am curious to try out other dishes: the beetroot soup with dumplings is also well worth a try.

Yelp
A great find if you like vodka. round the back of Holborn Tube Station, tucked nicely away from the bustle, this place creates a busy, buzzing atmosphere, esp in the early evening. It does get very busy and at times you are likely to wear the vodka, rather than drink it some people don't know their shot limits!! Or have enough manners to apologise! Getting to the bar can be a struggle. They have a range of beers, both bottled and tap. Didn't try the food. Prices are fair for the West End. Toilets were swimming. Its worth a quick visit, best to visit early in the evening for all the right reasons.

Yelp
Being so near to the Holborn tube station is certainly a big plus for this Polish cafe/bar. During daytime, the place serves Polish sausages, sandwiches and the like (I'm not completely sure whether they have these in the evening, but I've never seen anyone order them then), while it's a full-fledged bar in the evening. The place is small-medium sized, and so can hold about 20-30 people I think. It's normally quite full in the evenings, but rather empty prior to that. Shots and pints cost about 2 to 3 pounds I believe, which is okay. In my opinion, the main downside is that it seems to close rather early, around 11pm-ish.

Yelp
I went there for a couple of drinks. The place looks alright and clean but more importantly, they have a great selection of vodka (Including Zubrowska, Belvedere, Sobieski, Cracovia, etc.) . And some of them are tasting nothing like the usual vodka you can have in a bar. Pricewise, it's really affordable with prices for the shot ranging from 2.90 to 3.50, and the mixer for a few more pennies. I haven't tried the beers there but they seem to have all the classics and a few more. Finally the staff, polish obviously, was nice but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, it was a good experience and I'll come back there for their drinks menu and on a more popular day since I was there on a Monday night at 10pm.

Yelp
funny little alley location near school? yes. extraordinary list of vodkas, most under 3GBP? yes! 70s and 80s music? YESSS. 5 pounds (maybe a monday special?) for a a giant plate of Polish appetizers (remember, chase vodka with *food*, not liquids, because dmitri mendeleev says so. no, really, he wrote the periodic table of elements and then thought "hey, know what the world needs? a guide to instructions for vodka - i could do that." look it up.) it's not quite as cool/funky/dark as one might hope, and it's occupying a slightly uncomfortable middle between restaurant and bar, and that holds back the fifth-star, but an excellent place, beyond question

Yelp
This was a great polish restaurant in London. The staff was very helpful in choosing what to order and the food came out quick. Definitely worth stopping in

Yelp
Where else are you going to get your pierogie fix in London? Good cold beet soup as well, felt a little bit like a family-get-together!

Masha T.

Yelp
I've been here more than 6 times already. Their beef perogies are amazing. It's not a ball of lumpy beef but rather a very juicy dumpling stuffed with very flavorful minced beef. The small portion is definitely enough for 1 person as these are filling. Their borscht is always great and it doesn't taste like it came from a box. I've also had their bigos stew which was incredible. Very filling and well balanced between the meat and the cabbage and mushrooms.

Yelp
Fabulous little hole in the wall with the best array of infused vodka you'll ever find. Incredibly affordable. And Polish food to boot. This place is a must but it can be a bit hard to find. Worth the search!!

Yelp
Awesome pierogis with REAL AMERICAN BACON. The kielbasa was huge and the flavor was amazing. All around a great restaurant and an awesome vodka selection. Definitely a must go for Polish food

Yelp
A very cool and different bar. A whole menu of different kinds of Vodka are on offer, so if you're a vodka fan you'll be happy! At around £2.60 for a shot it's pretty well priced too.

Yelp
Good memories there - it's one of my favourite bars in London - quite different from the usual bars u ll find in London! Great choice of vodka - especially the bison grass vodka :D can be very busy at times.

Yelp
This place provides an interesting alternative in the london bar scene. If you google Polish bars in London (which I did recently) you might be surprised to find how few there are, considering the Polish population. Na Zdrovia bar is tucked away down a short snickelway not far from the Holborn tube entrance. It's quite a classy and minimalist space with high stools and tables and lots of standing room that naturally flow's onto the street. Unfortunately the food had finished by the time we arrived, I think it stop's at about 9 or 10 on a friday (don't trust me on that). The menu though looked really authentic and I'll be coming back to taste it. The drinking is really all about vodka. They have many different kinds, different ways of serving it and different things to put in it. I thought that the prices were quite reasonable - cheap in fact for a dedicated vodka bar. The ambiance was a little lacking on the evening we visited and I feel that maybe we came a little late. Probably around 7 until 10 would be the prime time for this venue. Anyway makes a good little stop on the way into town on a Friday night. (Oh! I think that the place may have actually changed it's name too - to THE POLISH BAR I remember asking about this and they said that they thought English people had trouble with the word Na Zdrovie - which is like Cheers! to the uninitiated.)
google avatar

Qype User (rosemo…)

Yelp
Come here for decent and cheap lager or vodka, although I wouldn't spend my whole night here. I work around the area so it is quite a good stop gap for going into the West End. It gets pretty rammed for whatever reason.

Yelp
Beetroot soup. Yum. With dumplings. And lots of bread (you could feed a family of 4 with the bread basket). Just what I needed on a cold Friday lunchtime. I wish I took more cash out, so with a fiver in my pocket the soup was the only option (£3.90), shame as the menu looks impressive (and I really wanted the bigos with meats and sauerkraut!). A bit too expensive for peasant food but I guess you pay a premium in Central London. I have fond memories of the Polish Centre near Hammersmith that had the best borscht ever!

Anon Y.

Yelp
Really delicious pierogies--I had 5 minced meat and 5 cheese and ended up preferring the cheese. The bacon/onion and sour cream accompaniments were super yummy. My friends and I tried a bunch of different vodkas and liked all of them; the bartender was really helpful and friendly about helping us choose which ones we might enjoy. (The selection was fantastic and thus a little overwhelming!) It was all affordably priced. Plus a charming little back alley area.

Yelp
Every time i went there this bar was CLOSED!! because of this you have missed out on me and my London friends potential custom! such bad timing for you as I was thinking of celebrating my birthday there but i took my business elsewhere....Learn to be OPEN Bar Polski!!
