The Best Restaurants in Eugene, Oregon | Eater Portland

"In a low-lit, intimate space off Willamette Street, Bar Purlieu’s chefs serve elegant plates of high-end meats and seafood paired with local, seasonal produce. French classics like escargot meet with more Pacific Northwest ingredients like a grilled Carlton Farms pork chop. The extensive wine list leans French and flights are available, while the bar also pours a short list of absinthe and pastis. Those looking for a splurgy meal can order the stellar $75 chef’s tasting menu, a bargain considering the quality. Those looking for a more budget-friendly experience with the same great ambiance would be wise to check out the happy hour from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday (or the reverse from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.) where many of the appetizers are substantially discounted and select cocktails are $8. Purlieu also recently added brunch from 10 a.m. to 2:30 on Saturdays. with Reservations are accepted on Tock and takeout is also available." - Brenna Houck

"A French-tinged corner joint on the Westside known for restrained, deeply flavored comfort dishes; the French dip—fall-apart brisket served with an intense au jus—is a must-order, and other highlights include artichoke heart au gratin dip, crab gnocchi with smoked bacon lardons, and a pear, fig, and burrata salad with toasted pine nuts. I’ve always considered Bar Purlieu one of my favorite spots, so I was genuinely excited to return. The meal started off strong, the Brussels sprouts with Vietnamese vinaigrette were incredible, and the cocktails were just as delicious as I remembered. Presentation throughout the night was stunning as every plate looked like a work of art. But don’t let that fool you, the depth of flavor just wasn’t there. My steelhead entrée was beautifully plated, but the fish was bland and lacked any real seasoning or complexity. The pistachio streusel added some texture, but couldn’t rescue the dish. Thankfully, the potatoes were the highlight of the plate. My date’s game hen leaned too heavy on the greens and too light on actual meat, which left us both underwhelmed. We saved room for dessert, hoping for redemption, but the chai carrot cake missed the mark. The flavors didn’t blend well and felt oddly mismatched. Bar Purlieu has delivered incredible meals in the past, but this visit was disappointing. Gorgeous presentation can’t make up for food that falls flat. I’m hoping it was a bad night.

We’ve been to the establishment twice now, and both times enjoyed it. The pros for us is the menu options, which are a step beyond what you can find elsewhere in our area. The mocktail menu could also be considered larger than other establishments. The service and atmosphere is wonderful. I read on a previous review that someone hated their two person table behind the front door. This is where we sat last night and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I would say the only con is, I haven’t tried anything that has blown my mind. I typically have a favorite dish at my favorite restaurants, but I haven’t had something from here that I’m dying to eat again. However, we will be back to explore more of the menu options and to enjoy the ambiance.

This restaurant seems to have put a lot of effort into accommodating various groups of customers. While this can be both an advantage and a disadvantage, for guests who are not dining in large groups, it is entirely a drawback. The tables are too close together. While seated at a two-person table, I was constantly bumped by passing staff, which disrupted conversations. The outdoor seating was also not particularly spacious. The fresh oysters were well-prepared, and at $4.00 each, the price was reasonable given the quality of handling and the opportunity to compare two different varieties. However, the escargot dish was a major disappointment. It is a signature dish at many French restaurants, yet this was the first time I saw escargot served outside of its shell at a French establishment. Whether canned escargot was used or not, the portion size was far too small, and the bitter taste—possibly due to incomplete removal of the digestive tract—made it unpleasant. I would absolutely not recommend this menu item. The scallops were grilled well, but the risotto was completely overcooked and lacked the proper texture. Risotto should always be cooked al dente to provide a layered texture, but that wasn't the case here. While the sauce was flavorful, the price felt too high. The dish was simply labeled “sea scallop” without any special features, and considering the retail price of wild-caught scallops, the cost seemed excessive even when estimating wholesale pricing. The mussel dish lacked overall balance, and the **guanciale** was burned, which left a bitter aftertaste. Once again, I was reminded that French cuisine starts and ends with butter—without wine, the dishes felt overwhelmingly rich. It reinforced my belief that French food must be paired with wine. I also believe that a restaurant offering a **Chef’s Special** menu should not feel overly casual. There were two large tables occupied by lively groups, and their loud conversations and laughter made it difficult to even hear the dish explanations. This is not a place would visit for a special day dining for all . This was my first and last meal here. In other words, it is not a place I would recommend.

Tldr: Bar Purlieu did the difficult things amazingly well, but the easier essential things slipped. Marche restaurant still wins crown for best local French haute cuisine in our experience. Eugene Weekly had an announcement Feb '25 that Trevor Rivera recently took over as head chef at longstanding Purlieu. There appeared to be a turn around in recent reviews lauding the change from a slow decline over last few years. Saturday evening reservation on advance for two landed us a quick seating by hostess upon arrival, but then a wait before waiting staff helped with drinks or food order. The lighting level throughout was dimmer than appropriate, and we saw diners in the booths repeatedly use phone flashlights to read menus. Charcuterie Board was excellent with wonderful selection of liver pate and other "better than just salami and brie" fare. No notes, recommended. Potted Foie gras was diluted severely with sauce where end dish was little different from a always delicious garlic butter toast. Similarly, the Escargot, though tender, had none of the subtle snail flavor that aficionados seek. They were served WITHOUT shells, rising questions about freshness. The seared scallops were cooked so perfectly with a caramelized crust like a campfire smore marshmallow, while still being tender medium rare in the center. Impressive. The sauce though was overly salty and took away from seared masterpiece. The mushroom tart, lauded in reviews as Bar Purlieu's unique specialty, is better described as a "Biscuit and Gravy". Only the top layers of the puff pastry was correctly risen, leaving a dense core that could not even absorb the overly heavy sauce. The mushroom sauce would be wonderful on a steak or pasta, but didn't fit with the deflated pastry. The Octopus, like the scallops, was impeccably cooked, tender like al dente pasta. Again, impressive. But the sauce was too salty, and the potato slices added very little except confusion in flavor and texture since they were cut to same size and shape as the octopus. We had been looking forward to the Venison Tartare listed on their website, but new menu replaced with just Tuna. So for our desires for beef tartare and Foie gras, we've had much better results at Marche restaurant in 5th street market. We enjoyed the dinner, and nothing but compliments to the fish and meat chef delivering the right texture. They still have work to do in saucier and accoutrement balance and service.

Stopped here on a drive back from California and boy was this such a welcome break. The food was absolutely incredible. We tried the oysters, scallops, mushroom tart, halibut, and bread and butter. Honestly I’m not sure which one was my favorite because it was all so good BUT if I had to choose it would be the scallops. We also tried their “milk” (creme anglaise) and cookies as well as the chocolate tarte - they were both fine. However I think I would’ve chosen another option off their menu and skipped desserts. The service was top notch. Very attentive despite having a pretty full restaurant. I think this will be a new go to on our trips through Eugene.

I LOVE Bar Purlieu, and it’s quickly become a regular stop since moving to Eugene. The food menu changes regularly and is always fresh. My wife and I are vegetarian, so we appreciate that there are always options for us, and that they seem thoughtfully composed. The staff clearly care deeply about the food and drinks, and my wife and I always feel welcome there. This is exactly what I look for in a local restaurant.

Google
Such a great place! My partner and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and we had an amazing time! Their cocktail list is inventive, I especially loved the cocktail with lovage! We did a tasting menu with wine pairing. Each dish was unique, interesting and paired incredibly well with the wine served! Highly recommend this place!

Google
The food is wonderfully prepared, presentation was perfect and the flavor of each dish was outstanding! Their cocktails are unique and well crafted. The ambiance is intimate, you can actually hear your conversations over dinner. The staff members were also incredibly friendly and attentive. This place is definitely a well rounded 5 stars!

Yelp
This place is always so good. We went last night for my birthday and it was wonderful. We were able to sit outside in the seating that used to be parking. It's covered and has some lighting but during the summer it's light late enough that you don't have to worry too much. The service was great, attentive and thoughtful. I had a fun cocktail that tasted like fresh pineapple and brown sugar, it was refreshing but not overwhelming. The food was really the star to me though. We had a beet salad, grilled veggies, fish of the day and the Catalan shellfish. Each item was fabulous. I've worked in kitchens and I can assure you that keeping the food at this level requires an amazing amount of effort. It's all about the details. Now for a little constructive criticism: the muscles weren't debearded, and that leaves a tough fibrous portion on the muscles. It's a small detail but it makes a difference. There were messy smudges on the water bottle left at the table which can happen at multiple points during service so to me it's not a big deal, and lastly the bread was a little dry as if it had been sitting out just a little too long. I must say none of this took away from the lovely experience, we have talked about how nice it was and how we can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This is place is so cold I forgot to bring worm cloth so I could not stay comfortable to dine. Let starts with place! This is small fusion cuisine not French as the yelp said. The owner was host to sit customers at either outdoor or inside. First we sat inside small table. I thought this place fine dining French restaurant. But it wasn't. They don't change silverware on each meals. Table is so small one dinner plate is fit in this table with two small plates and two glass wines and water. The first was ahi tuna salad. The green beans and potatoes were undercooked so hard to cut them up to chew. Every bite I had a big chunk of salt not much greens but lots of olives. Second was scallops main dish. It had Mexican flavor in it. Interesting dish. Scallops were cooked perfectly tho. Last dish was halibut. It was tasteless and soaked in oil. Onions were underneath and soaked with oil also. We couldn't finish it. So we just asked for check. Then I left. Of course they charged everything we ordered no one was seems like care for our concern. Won't be back!

Yelp
We decided to come here on the recommendation of my wife's uncle who wanted to treat us on his visit here from San Francisco. It did not disappoint! The food was excellent, the wine selection was on point, the environment, though a little loud initially, settled to a tolerable din in the background. We stayed for a few hours and the service was impeccable throughout even when the network went down unexpectedly! We will definitely be back again!

Yelp
Tonight we had a most wonderful dining experience as we feasted on Chef's Choice at Bar Purlieu. The regular menu here is fabulous. The five course Chef''s Choice goes further with a magical world class culinary experience. This great Eugene hotspot deserves more than five stars. From appetizers to desert all is superb. With great service, wonderful cocktails and wine along with a genius chef you can't beat this intimate restaurant for something very special.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Every bite (and sip) I had was delicious. The plates are all mostly meant to be shared--my date and I split bread and butter, each got a small green salad, split some scallops, and got grilled ling cod and chicken schnitzel for our main courses. I also had one of the cocktails (the VCR) and a wine flight, which is three small tastes of wine. All the ingredients seem high-quality and the vegetables are all bright and fresh. This French-inspired spot really honors the traditions of French cooking by letting the ingredients shine, and uses local, in-season ingredients, which means a rotating menu. I always appreciate when a place puts as much work into their alcoholic cocktails as into their nonalcoholic ones--Bar Purlieu definitely does. I'd describe this spot as "Eugene fancy"--it's a fun place to get dressed up for a date, the napkins are linen, the cocktails are fancy, but it's also comfortable and unpretentious, and you can wear anything from heels to Birkenstocks. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and our server seemed genuinely delighted to help me pick some wine to try. If you're looking for a place for a special meal or a celebratory dinner, I'd recommend this spot.

Yelp
Amazing service and wine. We had the pomme frites and bone marrow. I'm picky about my bone marrow and this was the best I've had. Amazing quality and price. Highly recommended! Can't wait to go back and try more things! Also, we were celebrating my birthday and they brought me their chocolate moose which was rich and creamy and lovely! Anita was an absolute doll!

Yelp
First time visitors last night and I will go back the next time I'm down in Eugene. We sat at the bar , had very attentive service, and met a fun local couple out on date night. We did escargot, chicken schnitzel, frites, and a small salad. The pix of my chicken and snails were not good enough to post

Yelp
The service was fantastic. The atmosphere here lively but also quite intimate and the volume is perfect. The oysters and bread were fantastic as well as the charcuterie board for appetizers, the steak frites were quite nice the steak cooked perfectly rare and the fries crispy. The chocolate mousse was perfectly light and flavorful. Fantastic restaurant all around.

Yelp
Our first dinner at Bar Purlieu was splendid tonight. The server was warm and friendly as she greeted us and told us about the night's specials. But it wasn't that thing where you smile uncomfortably and wish they would just stop talking. Because she was telling us about the seasonal items on the night's menu. And it sounded terrific. Terrific it was. We started with a plate of escargot, something we just love. It was loaded with garlic, and she set out some flaky sea salt to sprinkle on it - nice call. I ordered a cocktail of cold brew, orgeat, cream and nutmeg. It was wonderful. Hubby ordered something fruity, and it was delicious. We each had scallops which came with delicata squash, chanterelle, ver Hollandaise (ohmygawd), sea grape, fennel, and radish. It was divine. We got to sit outside. Kinda loud with the traffic going by, but the heaters were great, and it was romantic.

Yelp
This restaurant that features an amazing craft cocktail bar has an amazing atmosphere and beautiful decor and is often times back to the brim with excited diners. service was great, food came out fast, The presentation of all the dishes was nice. we paid $34 for a large portion of octopus, which consists of two smallish octopus tentacles and a handful of fingerling potatoes underneath. The octopus was overcooked and rubbery and was lacking in portion size. for $34, you can easily get a whole octopus and prepare it at home correctly. octopus is a temperamental dish to prepare and requires a lot of skill so it's not that big of a deal that they were not able to prepare it correctly but for the price and the portion size it brings down their rating quite a bit. we also had a dozen oysters of different varieties, some of which, although the name escaped me, the smallest sized ones and the largest size ones were both underwhelming. although I think it's the hognose or hog island, the medium-sized ones were delicious, very sweet, and I would definitely get those again. this does not really affect the score because oysters are not necessarily something they can control the flavor profile of. The strawberry mignette was great. The mushroom tart was delicious and definitely a go-to. It was said to have a shaved cured egg on top, but I did not notice any flavor or visual notes of the shaved cured egg The olive oil cake was honestly a little disappointing in both presentation and portion size. what looks like basically a sheet pan cake cut up into little squares and drizzled with some kind of sauce and some flowers on a cutting board I think kind of lacks creativity and inspiration on plating. The flavors were fine. Nothing stood out. Nothing I would get again or think about in the future. especially with two people sharing a dessert which is common at any restaurant it's a bit underwhelming to have not only an odd number of small squares but seven pieces of cake I'm paying basically a dollar per piece of cake or more I forget exactly how much it cost, what I can go over to sweet Life patisserie and get a large slice of cake that is miles above in terms of quality and portion size. They also lack any kind of after dinner espresso or affogato, which is not taking away points but is kind of disappointing for an upscale attempt at fine dining. overall, I think with the lack of dining options with Eugene, this place does stand out and provide a medium, high-quality dining experience for the price. I would not get the octopus again or dessert, but I would definitely stop in for a drink and a mushroom tart before heading to my actual event or or as a light snack before an outing. there wasn't too much stand out on this menu that really invokes creativity or attempts to carve any kind of path and food culture. a tad derivative but also missing the classics. bartenders are highly skilled, although I did order a very, very hard, shaken martini and was given a mildly shaken martini that did not really meet my expectations. when I order a heart shaking martini I expect fractured ice floating on top it's a particular style and oftentimes the bartenders do fall short on being able to shake a shake her hard enough to achieve this, so it's not a big deal but I do try to order very hard shake and martinis and it's a bit disappointing to see a gentle shake. especially when we're talking about 12 to $14 drinks. overall, I wasn't very blown away, but I think with the lack of options in Eugene, this place does set itself above the rest but only because there's a lack of competition. if they brought prices down or increased portion sizes, I think they could be ranked higher. especially with octopus being overcooked such a fine dining price point it's a tad underwhelming and disappointing. but that's kind of the food scene in Eugene right now anyway.

Yelp
Ambiance: 4/5 Cute ambiance Sat indoors, outside seemed loud with traffic passing by Service: 5/5 given there was one server for 90 percent of the restaurant He tried his best!! Food: 2/5 Escargot: 1/5 it came out lukewarm and was very bland Needed garlic perhaps? Calamari: 3/5 it was warm and crispy but slightly overcooked. Wish it came with marinara as well Sea bass: 3.5/5 it was thin and very small but not overcooked. decent flavor. Scallops: 3/5 tiny scallops (def get the large; it's 5 small ones). Nice presentation. Slightly overcooked but decent flavor and texture Chardonnay: 5/5 Really good and paired well with my escargot and sea bass. Good price point and came out nice and chilled

Yelp
Been back two more times, and it's been solid, though with a few disappointments: the bread (from bread & butter as well as on the side of mussels) tastes very dry/almost stale, and the mussel sauce tastes overly creamy to me. The scallops on my most recent visit were a little overdone and overly salted, too. That said, still one of the better restaurants in Eugene (see prior comments).

Yelp
This was a nice find during a weekend in Eugene. It's a cute small bistro with some seating outdoors as well as a small indoor dining area. The space is sweet and comfortable, with a lively conversation level -- not too loud, but also not too quiet. Definitely a place you can dress up or dress down and still enjoy an elevated meal. I ordered the larger size of the scallops entree, which is good because I imagine the small would have been too small (2 scallops vs 5 scallops). It was a nice dish, with lots of textures and flavors that worked well together. My husband ordered the duck. It was nicely executed, but was a small portion. Overall, I think the prices are high for the size of the portions and the quality of the dishes. But I'd definitely go here again, as I found the quality to still be higher than other restaurants I've been to in Eugene (we were happy to have a nice meal here after a terrible lunch at a popular spot in town that I won't name). Service was spotty. Most of the servers were friendly, but the timing was off. We were left for long periods of time without service, which just meant we saved money by not ordering more wine and dessert :) The location is great, and there is street parking around the area. If you're in Eugene, check out Bar Purlieu. I'd give it four and a half stars if we could give half stars! Not perfect, but a totally enjoyable dinner spot.

Yelp
This spot is adorable and one of my favorite local restaurants. They have gluten-free options and lovely cocktails. Staff is excellent.

Yelp
Will not ever go back....service is so awful....servers truly do not care....and the last time we tried, the owner was on the phone, right in front of us, for so long and would not even acknowledge us until we turned to leave and then "Oh, can't you just wait a minute"

Yelp
Small, cozy, and lively, great food, fabulous pate, which seems rare these days. Definitely go again assuming you're not a vegetarian! Not much there

Yelp
Cozy wine bar and dinner spot in Eugene in an old house featuring excellent local wines by the glass and a French inspired menu. Favorites from our visit included escargot in garlic butter and a side order of bread and butter to sop up the remainder. A delicious mushroom tart entree smothered in a cream sauce and scallop entree with risotto were the mains. Low key, intimate, and a good service experience overall. One snafu was a side order that didn't appear with our mains, and wait-staff had to be reminded it was missing, but they made it right by serving the dish late and comping us for the late dish due to their error, which was the right thing to do. All in all, a fun and enjoyable night out!

Yelp
I loved this restaurant! It's definitely a more sophisticated place, food was very creative and everything was delicious. Our server was so nice as well! I came with my grandparents who are worried about Covid and wanted to sit outside. They put heat lamps out there for us and we're very accommodating. I loved the kale Caesar and fried Brussel sprouts. If you're going to order a dessert the chocolate mousse was great too! This place would be great for a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary, would recommend.

Yelp
One of our favorite spots for a nice meal and drink! Tonight we had Duck Confit and the poutine. Our drinks were masterfully done by Molly. She is always the best! She makes great drinks, has an awesome personality, and takes great care of us! My wife and I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, whether we are at the bar or at a table. Side note: In the past we had the Tuna Tartar here and it was probably the best thing we have ever had in Eugene. If you see it on the menu, buy it!

Yelp
My wife and I decided to eat here for a date night after seeing the Chefs Tasting Dinner on the menu. It was a new experience for us and we were excited to try something new. Quick note, this meal is gonna run you around $150, before drinks. Plan accordingly but it was worth it. When we made our reservation I was able to email about my dietary restrictions and they were very responsive and assured me that they would have a great menu for me, a dairy free, egg free pescatarian. When we arrived I was surprised on how many tables they packed into a small location. It's a little cramped in what could really be an intimate setting, but it was decorated nicely and the lighting provided great ambiance. The dinner was amazing, 5 courses that were dishes we've never had before. Course #1 - sardines on a bed of cream cheese with First course of chefs tasting menu - sardines on a bed of cream cheese with cucumber, spicy peppers and an oil drizzle. For my version the chef replaced the cream cheese with a pesto that was herbaceous and zesty, super good. This was sooooo good! Even my wife who doesn't like this dish. Course #2 - Pork Belly with roasted vegetables and a parsnip puree. My dish was a fall medley of roasted vegetables and a parsnip puree. My wife loved her pork belly and the vegetables were cooked to an al dente that I didn't expect but really liked it. Course #3 - panzanella salad with goat cheese, walnuts & persimmon. My version didn't have the cheese. This wasn't my wife's favorite but she ate it, I enjoyed the new experience. Course #4 - perfectly cooked smoked octopus tentacle with butternut puree and wilted spinach. This.....this was amazing. Perfect texture, amazing smoky flavor, perfect. It was my first time eating octopus and I can't wait to eat it again. My wife doesn't like seafood so she was not impressed so I ate both portions. It was SO. DAMN. GOOD. Course #5 - dessert. My wife had a lemon cake soaked in an amazing sauce and I had a fruit & nut plate that tied my dinner together well. We were very impressed that they put together a meal that we both were eating mostly the same dishes. That's rare for us and we appreciated it a lot. We would definitely eat here again, just making sure we made sure my wife had a land based menu while mine was seafood based. Otherwise, this was a great meal and made a great date night.

Yelp
Intimate setting with ample seating and outdoor heated tents/tables. I'd recommend a reservation. Personable, professional staff with delicious cocktails. Despite its small size, they are efficient and produce a high-quality product. Shareable appetizers, seafood options, fresh oyster specials, and a 5 course chefs menu option. The best curated cocktails I've had in Eugene hands down. Scheduled another reservation while I was there, needless to say - excited to go back.

Yelp
Outstanding. Best meal of the year. Duck Confit was amazing. Smaller bites were exceptional. Sat at the bar with great service. Highly recommended. We'll be back very soon.

Yelp
My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here, which we noted on the reservation, and it was never mentioned. That's fine, but why even ask? For dinner we shared a salad, the catalon, and the duck confit special. The catalon was tiny and so was the duck confit. The catalon was delicious, but the duck was overly salted. We would have possibly let the server know, but the only time she checked in on us was to passive aggressively say "you can use the shell plate" while we were eating the catalon before she quickly turned around and left. I ordered an espresso martini and it was the worst I've ever had- no foam at all and a disappointing flavor. My husband ordered a drink and we both enjoyed it- pretty sure it was the brown fedora! Ambience was nice! But we left hungry. Didn't enjoy the service. It was disappointing.

Yelp
I understand that owning a restaurant is not easy. We arrived for our 52 Anniversary hoping for a good dinner. I am an Italian cook, so I am pretty picky about my food. The roasted vegetables were very good, the dessert was fantastic and the bread delicious. We ordered the chicken dish for both of us. My order was really good, except that I don't eat eggs and that was my fault for not asking about the sauce on top, which included big chunks of boiled eggs. My husband's chicken was served raw. We contacted the waitress and she wanted to replace it with the same order. We told her that he didn't want another one and explained that he doesn't eat any meat that is not fully cooked. Her response was pretty rude. She said, we don't need to talk about this anymore." Exact quote!! Another waitress came by and asked if they could get us anything else due to the chicken disaster, which was very nice. We told her no, but did order a fantastic dessert. I'm not sure why they weren't using a meat thermometer for the chicken.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Eugene! I've been here quite a few times now and the food is always phenomenal and the service is very consistent. On our last visit, we started with a variety of different types of oysters. All were super fresh and tasted amazing. For the main course we had the Duck Confit and the Pan Seared Sea Bass. My fave of the two was the Duck Confit. The duck was cooked to perfection and the cherry demi-glaze added phenomenal flavor. I also liked how they plated the butternut squash and grapes, added such a cute aesthetic to the plate. I will say my only complaint was that I wanted more! I went to dinner starving and felt the duck wasn't filling enough so I also order the Steak Frites. The Steak Frites was also cooked to perfection. Super tender, extremely juicy, and I enjoy the compound butter they place on top. Such an amazing meal! For dessert we ended with the Fried Puff Pastry. It's such a light dessert and the mixture of sweet and tart between the raspberries and lemon curd is such a nice way to end the night. Especially, after such a heavy meal. Definitely recommend for your next night out!

Yelp
So many reviewers from "big cities" comparing this to those environments. Cool. Guess what? Eugene isn't LA, so chill out. You're a nobody, on Yelp, whereas this place is trying to do a good thing nourishing people in a tough industry in a small city. Your arrogance comparing apples to oranges cuts into their business, so set aside your ego and your brimmed brunch hat, and rate accordingly. Food is solid. Staff are wonderful -- they genuinely care. Ambiance is great. Portions can be a bit on the smaller side *by (bloated) American standards*, but the attention given to each dish to me (more than) makes up for it. Consistency hasn't been an issue for me, and I go usually once a week. Love the roasted veggies and sea bass. Wish more restaurants around here put in the love that they do.

Yelp
Excellent food. The tapas are so elevated in refinement , balance , and flavor that I can't even call this place a bar. The cauliflower is phenomenal, The baked mushroom tarte was worth the trip from California. Every dish is so enjoyable that we ended up ordering pretty much the whole menu for 7 people. Definitely one of my favorite places in Eugene.

Yelp
Amazing service and wine. We had the pomme frites and bone marrow. I'm a bit picky with my bone marrow and this was the best I've had. Amazing quality and price. Highly recommend! Can't wait to go back and try more items! Also, we were celebrating my birthday and they brought me their chocolate moose which was so rich and creamy and lovely! Anita was an absolute doll!

Yelp
Interesting and unusual combinations of food. I was simply stunned by how good the food was. The food is just a five star, no question. I had the sea bass and my daughter had the scallops. My daughter ordered the small plate of scallops. She would definitely order the large plate in the future, it was so amazingly good. We started with a fresh garden salad that was unusually fresh and flavorful. Cocktails were unusual and creative, I had one of the Parlieu and one of the Birds of Prey, and she had one of each as well. We had the strawberry crème brûlée with rhubarb compote. Delicious! We paired it with a Hungarian dessert wine which was sublime. While I will come back to this restaurant, I won't sit outside because the patio seating is too loud, right next to the street, and positioned such that pedestrians have to weave through the tables. I'll reserve an inside booth next time - it looks great.

Yelp
Great place for a special occasion. I used to come her more often but with the latest inflation, the prices here have also sky-rocketed and it's at the upper range of what I like to spend on a nice evening dinner. The food was good, as usual. What I noticed was that the portions have shrunk immensely despite the prices going up. Any way, the food: we had a Foie Gras "appetizer". This came in a small jar, cute presentation, with a layer of oil on the top. It made the foie gras too runny when mixed. The flavor was delicious and spot on. The toasted brioche slices were from my favorite local bakery, but it was toasted a bit too much so the burned flavor was strong. Next, the Sausage special: one sausage home made with pork and chicken(?) , very good flavor. It came with a creamy risotto and some tiny bits of shaved Oregon truffles. Flavors were spot on! Of course, one sausage and a scoop of risotto for $21 does not last very long. Also: lamb chop. We opted for a small cut for $23 and indeed it was tiny small. Probably a little less then 2 ounces of meat after taking away the bone and grizzle. Not very tasty, a bit tough too. It came with a delicious blend of farro and mint sauce. We shared a dessert next: Orange Crème Brûlée with a Meyer Lemon marmalade. The flavor and texture were excellent. I tried a Cosmonaut cocktail to go with all this, hmmmm, don't know about that one, quite strong Elderflower taste with citrus and served room-temperature. Service was great and attentive today. The ambiance is lively, a bit too much so. Tables are spaced closed together and it was extremely difficult to hear my husband across our tiny table when a louder group was seated behInd us. They are very busy and I was glad we had reservations.

Yelp
Ok, so I have had amazing food here, and some not so amazing food here. I'm graciously giving it four stars because I do really enjoy my experience at this restaurant. Two times I have visited I have had an overcooked and under seasoned steak frites. One time when a steak was a special, it was impeccably made, and I crave that experience again. It was definitely the best steak in town in my mind after that experience. This last time, the steak was really firm, ate like New York strip, not a filet. A filet generally should melt in your mouth. I asked for roasted veggies, not frites with my steak, and they sent me almost inedibly salty sautéed veggies. The steak was under seasoned, so it actually worked in my favor there lol. The server did offer to replace, but I didn't feel it necessary, just offered the feedback. The flavors otherwise on the rest of the meal and the quality was just fine. There were highlights, but nothing was exceptional this last visit. The mushroom tart is definitely a go to for us. That's the best dish, just get it! The ambiance is beautiful. The service is really nice. This visit we ordered the tasting menu and a few other things. We ordered the wine pairing for the tasting. The wine didn't come with the food, which was a little off putting. But the selection was great! I really like this place and am being super critical here only because we drop $200+ every visit and would really like to have that perfect meal experience every visit.

Yelp
While visiting the kiddo at U of O for family weekend we were looking for a great restaurant with awesome vibes and DELICIOUS food.....well we certainly found it. This place was a quaint restaurant with amazing French fare! We were lucky enough to get a reservation in the charming outdoor patio. It was perfect for the beautiful weather we were lucky enough to enjoy. We ordered so much and everything was beyond expectation. Thank you for making the trip that much more worth it.

Yelp
A good bye dinner with my sister was so good! Friendly, on point service! I got the bone marrow to start! WOWOWOW! The citrus that accompanied the marrow was just such an amazing surprise! I also got four freshhhhh oysters on the 1/2 shell (blue point and I forgot) The sauce served to dip the oysters was yummmm..... Main course was duck and sausage! Super hearty and seasoned just right! I loved it! I tried my sisters sea bass and it was bad ass! The cream brûlée was so so so yummy! Our server was super sweet, efficient, caring and knowledgeable! We were super comfortable the whole time. Thanks to the bartender for mixing some bad ass

Yelp
Highly recommend this place!! Went here for an anniversary date night and had a wonderful time. The food is delicious, the mushroom tart and the pork belly were phenomenal, and everything tastes well balanced with fresh ingredients. The drinks are also wonderful. I had the "cat video" which tasted just like the (sadly discontinued) tangerine altoid sour candies. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive even though it was a busy evening! This is the best French restaurant in town, perfect place for a date night!

Yelp
Public Service Announcement!! This place Rocks!! My wife and I went here for the first time recently and had an awesome time. The food was top notch, the ambiance is classy but comfortable, and the service was helpful, friendly and quick. What more could you ask for!? 10/10 would suggest :)

Yelp
Service was beyond excellent - warm welcome, quick, friendly service. Even though we had "dedicated" server, anyone other server walking by was of assistance. Then the food, ah, so yummy. We really appreciated having the option of small or large servings. The brussel sprouts were so tasty, the sauce amazing. We also enjoyed the shellfish Catalan and scallop dishes. Followed by decadent chocolate delight and port. Selection of drinks is not huge but great choice. They gladly offered tasting to help us with our selection. Can't wait to visit Eugene again and dine at this wonderful restaurant. Offer indoor and outdoor seating. Recommend reservation.

Yelp
I was pretty bummed that their steak fries were unavailable. I ordered their large seared sea scallops based on the bartender's recommendations. The dish contains fiddlehead fern, nettle pistou, lardon, spring onion, and crème fraîche. I ordered it without the spring onions, the scallops were succulent and delicious. According to the bartender, small comes with 2 or 3 scallops and large comes with 4 or 5 depending on the scallop size.

Yelp
This was my second dinner of the night so I ordered only a few things. Escargot- need a tad bit more salt but it was good. Bone marrow was my favorite since it is the first time I had it prepped with tarty Paloma and vinaigrette base dressing. Liver late was super rich but delicious!

Yelp
Last call for the winter menu. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the Cassoulet and Marrow Bones. Attentive service and a lively ambiance made for yet another great dining experience.

Yelp
Underwhelming. Fois gras had no taste/bread was over buttered/soggy. Agree with other reviewers portions were super small and expensive. Nothing to go back for. Wish sparkling wines were better and I hate those old cups on a stem type glassware. I want to support local restaurants but tonight was disappointing. Ordered one of each dessert and meh.

Yelp
Server was rude to our guests as she attempted to steer husband to a choice he would best enjoy. The cocktails and appetizers were spot on. I enjoyed Duck on menu. Parking is the biggest downside to this gem.

Yelp
Ate here last night for first time in a year and it was even better than I remembered. Food, service & general vibe were all fantastic! Super friendly staff that could not have been more helpful and attentive even when it was just. Bravo ... we'll be back!

Yelp
Nicely prepared dishes with a French flair. Good line of wine and appetizers. Only had the grilled octopus which was satisfying ; Friendly , pleasing service overall , no pretense , just genuineness! Quaint ambiance - seating was a bit tight , reservations a must since it does get pretty full!

Yelp
I've eaten their food twice, mixed results. I lived in a large city with restaurant prices to match for the high end spots for 10 years, and hoped Bar Purlieu would have the quality at Eugene prices. They're decent at best. Certain dishes are amazing, others are bland and under seasoned. Is this the best high-ish dining spot for dinner in Eugene? Yeah. Would it survive in Los Angeles? Not a chance - other than the duck confit. With that said, I keep coming back time and time again.
