A Hilltop hangout with a Mugnaini wood oven turning out leopard-spotted Neapolitan-style pizzas alongside amaro-forward cocktails. The News Tribune spotlighted its focused menu and late-night energy—very Tacoma, very delicious.

Would i come here again, No. I got the Pancho and Tammy, a tequila based drink and it was underwhelming to say the least. No real flavor profile other than watery. Ordered the vesuvio pizza and it was beyond soggy center(see video for reference) The place was busy so apparently it's popular but two drinks and a pizza for $75 i rather not. Obviously just my opinion

Google
Delicious pizza - we had a few other bites including the peppers and Caesar salad, but the pizza was the star! Great wine selection as well, and the cannolis are a must!

Nazar Borishkevich

Google
One of the better pizza places in the seattle area. Pizza was light, tasty, and not oily. The vesuvio was a bit on the saltier side but the pepperoni was killer. Atmosphere is definitely a bar vibe with loud music and dimly lit but overall we had a great experience and will be coming back.

Google
Bar Rosa has really good pizzas with unique flavor combinations. The vibe is relaxed and is a great place to hangout with friends. Great neighborhood spot.

Google
This place has been our go to place! We are always so impressed with pizza! 🤌🤌 Very delicious and flavorful. I would say it's one of the best pizzas I've ever had. I love their tomato sauce. Their salad is amazing as well.

Google
We had an unforgettable experience at this pizza place. We ordered the Capricciosa pizza and the Foraged Pie, and both were absolutely phenomenal—perfectly baked crust, fresh, flavorful toppings, and a balance of textures that showed real culinary skill. For dessert, we tried the lemon cake and tiramisu, and they were just as impressive. The lemon cake was bright, moist, and refreshing, while the tiramisu was rich, creamy, and beautifully layered. On top of the incredible food, the staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the whole evening even better. This place is a gem—we’ll absolutely be back!

Google
Some of the best pizza I've had in Washington State, hands down. Haven't tried a pizza on the menu that I've not liked. I frequently hit up this spot anytime I'm in Tacoma. The food is consistently good, and so is the service.

Google
Bar Rosa has become a regular spot for us because of the consistent quality and delicious food and decent cocktails we have experienced the last 4-5 visits. The Wood-fired zucchini with corn purée is one of the best appetizers I’ve ever had- well-balanced flavors of smoky, tangy, spicy, hot, cold, & sweet and the perfect amount of salt. The Vesuvio pizza was cooked to perfection and the toppings were the perfect ratio. I highly recommend getting a side of their great marinara to dip your crust on. Caesar salad was perfection. Service is adequate, nothing overly special and the cocktails I have had have been ok, the pour is not as strong as I would like, but still good. Would love if they would get the single, large ice cubes for whisky as they just use the same small cubes of ice as they do for other drinks, which just ruins a premium whiskey in my opinion. Atmosphere on a Friday happy hour and Saturday afternoon was light, fun and airy with the large open windows. The real star is the chef manning the wood-fired oven, they clearly are an expert in their craft. Hilltop might be a bit sketchy, but Bar Rosa is a gem worth visiting.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, great thin crust that enhances the flavors and lets the sauce shine. The tartine app was very good, nice rich + creamy goat cheese on an open sourdough toast concept with crispy prosciutto and sweet chili honey. Pizza was so full of flavor, I can't wait to try the other specialties! We got the Calabria and thought it tasted like an elevated margherita pizza. The lemon ricotta was not overpowering, could barely taste the lemon but not in a bad way: it kept the pizza savory.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is incredible. If you don't get the POACHED PEAR TARTINE, you are MISSING OUT. it will actually change your life. The service is always excellent, the seating areas are super cute and I love when they open the garage style doors on a nice day. The crust is incredible, you don't need ranch, I promise. But dipping your crust in the pesto? Can't go wrong. I love this place and will continue to come here forever and ever amen.

Yelp
Bar Rosa is one of my favorite go-to spots in Tacoma. The cocktails are thoughtful and distinct and the food is simple, fresh, delicious, and nicely presented. They've got a great mastery of their pizza oven because their pizzas and flatbreads are always perfectly prepared -- with the right combination of crispness and chew. The Burrata they serve is fresh and creamy and the greens are always crisp. And if you like espresso martinis their Troop Leader is one of the BEST. So is the For Rosa cocktail, which brings a perfect blend of sweetness, tang, and bitter to whiskey. The service is great, the inside ambiance is pretty mellow and comfortable and you can sit outside -- which is nice on pleasant night even if the street itself is a little Tacoma Gritty.

Yelp
The food I hear is good.I tasted a marinara sauce for some mini pizza cuts and it was lame.We managed to pick the hottest day of the year,so doors were closed and AC was on at a comfortable temperature.Service was decent, either ordering at the bar or at our table, but there was some kind of racket going on(construction, chopping wood,I don't know)which made our happy hour a bit of an issue.Bathrooms are pristine, but the neutral gender situation slows things down a bit.Nice venue. Will try again.

Yelp
We had the most delicious dinner at Bar Rosa last weekend! I started out with the Mexicali Blues cocktail and we shared the burrata and flatbread appetizer. Both were fantastic! The flatbread is phenomenal! We also had the foraged pie. It was just as delicious. Maybe one of the best pizzas I've had in Tacoma. Foraged Pie: rosemary béchamel, mozzarella, fontina, provolone, adam's mushrooms (shiitake/oyster), garlic confit, flakey sea salt. The ambiance is dark. There are candles lit and the whole vibe is super cool and very relaxed. The service was great. Everyone was so friendly. We did have to wait a little bit for a table, but it was well worth it.

Yelp
Bar Rosa was recommended by several friends so I thought I'd give it a try. I got there for happy hour and enjoyed one of their drink specials, a delicious passion fruit margarita. I was warned the Diavola pizza was spicy, and it was - just the right amount. I'm not ashamed to say I ate the whole thing all by myself lonesome. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
After a long day of moving, we decided to grab a quick lunch and found Bar Rosa on Yelp! My boyfriend is a pizza snob and loves wood fired pizzas so we thought we'd give this a try since we're new to the area! We got the margherita and the calabria pizzas. We also came during happy hour and I got the passion fruit cocktail and he got a beer. The cocktail was way too strong for my tastes so I gave it to my boyfriend. The pizzas were tasty and the dough was nice and fluffy. The scissors it came with was different and my boyfriend liked his a lot! Mine was a little sweet for my liking with the lemon ricotta and it was definitely interesting but I think I'd try a different one. It was on the pricier side and ended up costing around $70 for the two of us. The waitresses were nice and they leave a carafe of water so you don't really interact with them much. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we went and there was plenty of parking on the street!
google avatar

Mattea D.

Yelp
Bar Rosa is the perfect spot for a date night without kids (no kids allowed, can't recommend takeout because it's so inconvenient). The food is good, the service is ok. Parking on the street (not hard to find) We ordered a salad, two pizzas and tiramisu. The citrus and fennel salad was delicious though lacking fennel (mostly greens). We liked the spiced greens pizza (plus sausage!) and the gabugool pizza! We ordered enough to take home nearly a full pizza (yay us!) and the tiramisu was great. We probably would've been in and out with more responsive service but they also don't rush you so just depends on what you'd like! Will go again at some point when we get a babysitter, so maybe an update in 3 years.

Yelp
This place is for my gals who wanna have a good time with good food, or the couples who wanna have their own perfect date night with some wine and pizza. Since it's December they've got their interior decked out in beautiful Christmas decor. Let's talk about the main course, the pizza, of course! It's ideal for fans of thin-crust pizza--crispy, light, and oh-so-satisfying. We tried the Margherita pizza, a classic with tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil, extra virgin olive oil, and a sprinkle of coarse sea salt. Simple, fresh, and delicious! For something more unique, the Vesuvio pizza stole the show. Topped with provolone cream, oregano, chili oil, red onion, wine-roasted crimini mushrooms, prosciutto, pecorino romano, and fresh burrata, it was an incredible flavor explosion worth every bite. Also a special mention to this drink my best friend ordered, it was an interesting blend for me but she loved it so much she got two, it's called Rosa's Mulled wine which had brandy, red wine, Xila Mexican amaro, allspice, orange, cinnamon, star anise. This drink is served hot and it's perfect for the cold season to keep your body warm. Our server was great too! He continuously checked on our table from time to time and didn't rush us to pay our bill.
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
We only had a couple of their drinks and a slice of the tiramisu, but the drinks were good nothing crazy or worthy of a return, the tiramisu was actually very tasty, and service was fine. We were unfortunately seated by a loud, drunk party of douchebags belching off rude remarks and generally acting dumb, so that didn't make the ambiance any better than what downtown Hilltop offers. I get the goal of revitalizing/gentrifying downtown but it's still pretty sketchy to sit out there in penumbral light.

Yelp
We went to Bar Rosa on the recommendation of a coworker who knows I'm a pizza aficionado, having grown up in a family-owned pizzeria. This place did not disappoint. The crust is thin on the center and the edge is thick good for dipping or stealing from your table mates. The ambiance is dark and loud, so don't go expecting a deep conversation. You're there for the food and drinks. It was busy so I don't begrudge our server being a little short with us. They were busy and got our order to us as soon as it was ready. One last thing that was a nice surprise - you will get your own scissors to cut your pizza at the table. Fun and reminded us of our trip to Rome when pizza was long and sold by the length, then cut with scissors. We'll be back for sure, though next time I want to try some "firsts" on the menu.

Yelp
Pretty underrated pizza place. Good selection and pizza was great. The staff was friendly and quick with service

Yelp
This place is in my top 5 for pizza. To preface, I love neapolitan/neo-neapolitan and wood-fired pizza. This pizza was flavorful, the ingredients tasted high quality, and the addition of flaky sea salt to the margherita pizza sealed the deal for me. The crust was thin and a little chewy, there was good char to the underside, and a good ratio of sauce/cheese. The burrata appetizer was also delicious. Loved the balsamic glaze and the dressed arugula, tasted very fresh. The place had a good vibe, with dark walls and lots of wood. The pizza oven is visible from the dining area which I think is so cool. Overall, would recommend and will be back for sure.

Yelp
Oh my another great meal! We had two happy hrs, passion fruit Dacari, and a Modelo, one brocolinii on happy hr, 2 Roni's... cause WE don't like to share lol!! The broccolini was perfectly roasted with crunchy bits of airy brocolinii with garlic and almonds. Mmmmm and the service was excellent. Also the Ronis cupped to perfection!! I took 3 pieces home. EVERYTHING HERE IS COOKED TO PERFECTION! As we were getting done about 5:30 they lit the little candles for ambiance! Love it! Wanna come back just to drink!!
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
This place has AMAZING pizza!! I can't wait to go back! We had the burrata to start and then had the Roni pizza. Just incredible! Try the dude abides cocktail, too. It's fantastic! Very, very cool spot!
google avatar

Andy B.

Yelp
Delicious pizza all around. Amazing crust, I must say. Bar Rosa lives up to the hype. We placed an order to go for two pizzas and a cannoli. Everything was ready in 15 minutes. Only being able to place a togo order in person is a minor downside.
google avatar

Breanna V.

Yelp
Cute little place. Just a few tables and bar seating. We sat at the bar. Server was polite and attentive without being overbearing. The pizza was next level good. I thought it was a bit out of the norm to have scissors to cut it but it was fun to "play" with your food. We will be back for sure!

Yelp
If you want great Neapolitan style pizza in Tacoma this is the spot. If you want craft cocktails of any style or to have something made just for you, this is the spot. Fantastic specials that change with what is fresh and in season, both pizza, aps and drinks. Service is outstanding, bartenders know how to make ANYTHING, owner is involved and very involved in the day to day. Great spot to hang out anytime
google avatar

Linda H.

Yelp
Food here was very good but a bit pricey. Margherita pizza highly recommended. A personal size pizza, caesar salad, and pasta special (it was good) and 2 bottles of pop came up to over $75.
google avatar

Celeste R.

Yelp
Just expectacular place! The pizza are always made to perfection. If you dine in the service is stellar and the ambiance is perfect for a catch up with friends or a date night. I have been many times and every single time the food keeps getting better and better. Those meatballs are made to perfection when it comes to taste. They do have different menus as the seasons change but let me tell you it's for the best, because every single new item in season is just made stunningly.
google avatar

Gabriele E.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick drink and our bartender was so sweet! The drinks were very yummy and I love the glassware. Would definitely come back here for some more beverages, and the pizza smelled amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
the best personal sized (12") pizzas in town to be honest. as you sit and wait for your pizza you can watch the stone pizza oven cook it in the middle of the restaurant when you first walk in. there's also a bar and bar seating if you'd prefer. it is a darker ambiance so could be great for a date night as well! service is great here u went three times and never a bad experience. they are delicious and great crust. they give you a scissors so you can cut it yourself in with whatever size you like. i tried the Cacio Pepe Pizza, Foraged Pizza, and Shroom Pizza. i would definitely get the cacio again for a more simple pizza and the foraged pizza was my favorite (i LOVE mushrooms!). they had seven different types of mushrooms which i loved since it kept the textures and flavors always a surprise in each bite. the shroom pizza didn't have any flavors that went past crimini mushrooms on a pizza -- so wouldn't really recommend this one.

Yelp
When we first moved to the area, the service at this establishment was great. Our past three visits, it has been horrible. Great food. But if you have a craving to feel like sh_t, go here, the staff will surely deliver. Horrible. Today, Feb 15 at opening, was the worst. And not just the worst at BR, but most every other place we have ever been to here in the PNW, or elsewhere. Just unfortunate. Sadly they have great pizza, which makes us feel badly for the cook. But today was so bad, we left before any orders were taken. The staff member was rude rude rude. If that is what you are after, by all means go here. It seems once we passed Covid the restaurants who favored a quality service experience in addition to great food were the ones to survive. Somehow this slipped through the cracks. Given the other reviews, this is a pretty trashy spot that has reasonably good food.
google avatar

Erica I.

Yelp
Craft cocktail perfection. Food is thoughtful and delicious. I love the lemon ricotta stuffed peppers, the locally sourced mushroom pizza and for dessert, their version of tiramisu is whip cream deliciousness without the alcohol bitey taste. Thank you to Megan, Kass and James for taking such great care of me and my taste buds.
google avatar

Yelp
Great pizza and the best old fashion !l I had great time with my friend. Everything was fantastic

Brittany D.

Yelp
BEWARE if you're using a card! Ate here last week (3/17) with my boyfriend and we ordered a Life's a Beech pizza ($28), a Roni pizza ($22), side of chili honey ($2), cannoli ($12), and two cokes ($6 combined). The total was $77.21 after tax and I paid with card and left a $20 bill for the tip. I checked my account two days later and was charged $101.92! I signed off on $77.21 and tipped in cash, so there is no reason it should have been different than what I signed for on the merchant copy. I did leave my customer copy at the table (oops) and I feel like someone thought they could take advantage of that? It's a shame too because I enjoyed the restaurant and the pizza. Won't be visiting again if I have to worry about compromising my card.
google avatar

Liliana U.

Yelp
So much love for this place. They never disappoint! Pizza here is phenomenal and dare I say the best I'm Tacoma. Service is always amazing. Drinks are top notch. Thanks for Megan, Matt, Shelby, Cass, and James for creating some of the best cocktails I've had. Atmosphere is great for both date night or dinner with your friends/coworkers.
google avatar

Dianne L.

Yelp
Pizza and service were just ok/ average pizza however I loved getting scissors to cut the slices! I will forever do this with my pizza from now on!
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Great food, drinks and service. House dirty martini was excellent! Staff were friendly and checked on us frequently. Their pizzas have unique flavor combinations and are fresh and tasty. The night we were there 2 dessert options were offered (cannoli & pumpkin creme brûlée). We were looking forward to the pumpkin creme brûlée but were disappointed when by 6pm they were already sold out. Other than that it was a positive child free evening out.

Catalina D.

Yelp
The vibe is cool but the costs are outrageous for the quality of food that you get. Our server was not too friendly, and that made our experience less enjoyable. I was shocked that 2 pizzas and 2 sodas was $75????? What? The pizza was oily and soggy, but it looked good in photos. If you have the choice, eat somewhere else.
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
Ugh so be good and so sad that it took me this long to try this place out! Their cocktails and pizza were amazing! I had their FORAGED pizza and omg it was so good I basically ate the entire pizza but one slice. I could've eaten it but had to save a slice for the husband at home can't wait to try the other options!
google avatar

Morgan D.

Yelp
Food and drinks are really good and quality. Staff are friendly and accommodating. The prices were a bit much, for even simple things. It's good, just not in a price range that would make me come here more often. Good vibe and cool looking pizza stove!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Knocking a star off bc while the food was amazing, the bartender seemed very annoyed with us. No we weren't needy, nor did we ask a ton of questions, although we did ask a couple bc we'd never been here. I don't want to give out this dudes name but he didn't seem to like my wife and I. I killed this man with kindness and his attitude was just so off putting. The bartender with a cast was so friendly and so very helpful so he made up for the complete lack of friendliness and customer service from the other dude. Will likely not sit at the bar top again if this gentleman is working bc the service can make or break an experience. Sad bc I bartended for years and I love sitting at the bar. Now for the pizza: FREAKING AMAZING! We commented that it was one of the very best pizzas we'd ever eaten. I also travel all over the country for work, and am always trying out new spots so says a lot. The ingredients are so insanely fresh. Ordered the Green Veggie pizza with Ndjua (spreadable sausage). Decor: the super intimate, dimly lit vibes. Def a solid date night spot!
google avatar

Susan C.

Yelp
Delicious! We had the olive appetizer and three different pizzas. Everyone was very happy.
google avatar

Christiana H.

Yelp
I had this place saved on Yelp for awhile and yesterday was my chance. It was such a treat! I don't think I've ever had warm olives in my life. I love them. I loved everything that I tried. Order the sweet spot to drink, you will not regret it. I'm not sure who our server was because every person available tended to us. There was no wait, we were greeted with smiles, and everything came rather quickly. The inside is a whole vibe. I love the black and tan on the inside. The lighting wasn't too bright either. They even switch to candles at night. Really nice date night spot in my opinion. A bit pricey for the area but I still enjoyed everything.

Injuredrabbitmc ..

Yelp
Once upon a time I loved this place. The best Neapolitan pizza I've had in the PNW, price be damned - it was worth it. My last visit, with an out-of-town friend, however, was subpar. We paid like 15 bucks for a Caesar salad that was basically a pile of romaine lettuce, hardly any dressing, and a few croutons. Our server was nice but smelled like she had bathed in perfume and it just permeated everything. The pizzas were fine but the rest of the experience kind of overshadowed how good they were and made me resentful of how much they cost. Rather than leave a middling review on Yelp, I decided to contact the business directly. Several months and two unanswered emails later, here I am. I was never even acknowledged by them. Super disappointing and I won't go back because of this.
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
I haven't tried their food yet cause we are always running behind. Their service is incredible and the staff is very attentive for a bar especially. Bathrooms are clean. Drinks are strong. The interior feels welcoming and fun. What more could you want?
google avatar

Becky C.

Yelp
Overall good experience. The pizza is made with fresh ingredients and unusual flavors. The atmosphere is cozy and VERY upbeat. Lots of options on the menu with huge portions. We have the fungi and the special pizza which was potato and sausage. We definitely enjoyed both. Price is a little high, but we weren't shocked given the price of everything these days. The only complain about the pizza was there was A LOT of crust and not a ton of pizza... I would also suggest asking for a side of red sauce for dipping your crust in :)

Julie F.

Yelp
Went for dinner but ended up getting only drinks and an appetizer and it was still $80! My drink was supposed to have tequila in it, but I did not taste it at all. And they had it garnished with what looked like dried, blackened orange, so it looked like mold floating on top. The appetizer was good, so that was the saving grace. I may go back but only during happy hour.

Yelp
Located at the corner of South 11th & South L St in Hill Top, this cocktail bar is a new gem in Tacoma. Serving up wood fired Neapolitan style pizza, signature cocktails, and warm inviting service, it's one of those places you will crave to return. Recommendations: 1) Margherita Pizza (try adding the Burrata) 2) Cocktail: the Fast Eddie with Overholt Rye & Black Peppercorn Syrup.
google avatar

J A.

Yelp
Really great experience. The roasted olives were on point!! The pizza(s) were really good. The cocktails were lacking but it was busy when we went. The vibe was super chill though.
google avatar

Carli C.

Yelp
Reading some of the reviews around charred soggy pizza make me laugh. These people need to realize that there are different styles of pizza and if they don't like this place than they need to stick with thick crust or Detroit style. I spent a month in Italy this year and this was the closest most delicious pizza to what I had in Italy. I'm from Portland but every time I make it up to Tacoma I will seek this place out. The drinks were delicious and the margarita pizza was exactly what it should be. I am also happy I was able to cut it myself because if they did it right out of the oven it would ruin the pizza. We sat at the bar and the gentleman that helped us was very friendly and attentive. I also loved the vibe of the place. Can't wait to come back. To the guy that had an issue with having to cut the pizza himself and it being charred and soggy for your sake never go to Italy.

Julia B.

Yelp
Bar Rosa was incredible. 11/10. There was a line to get in when we left and the restaurant isn't huge but service was excellent and the food was so good.
google avatar

Ash M.

Yelp
Without a doubt there is no place in Tacoma that even comes close to Bar Rosa for authentic wood fired pizza. The location is easy to find, there is street parking all around, and the ambiance and service are excellent. Their salad and appetizers menu keeps growing and they are known for their cocktails. I live nearby and have tried takeout many times. However, the food is so much better when you eat in.
google avatar

Jacqueline P.

Yelp
Food is soooo delicious and the atmosphere is great, the food is authentic. Perfect for a romantic date night!
google avatar

Joey P.

Yelp
Ordered three different drinks (lavender gin, fancy gin and tonic, Negroni) which were all stellar. Shared the Hatch pizza which was incredible (peaches, hatch peppers, etc). Capped off the evening with the Tiramisu which was light, decadent, and flavorful. The place has a great vide and incredible service. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night and it pretty solid! It was pretty busy but we killed time at the bar and it was fun. Once we got seated, our server was welcoming and nice. Food took a bit of time to get but it was worth the wait. The pizzas were delicious. I love Neapolitan style pizza! Would come back to try the other pizzas.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
I returned for a second time, this time I brought a date. She was not disappointed what so ever. She loved everything about the bar, drinks, food and the ambiance. The service was a little slow that night but not bad enough to take a star away. The pizza is the best pizza you will find in Tacoma. I got the 4 cheese pizza and added pepperoni, it was amazing. The drinks are made perfect, strong but made so well they don't taste strong. I will be back soon!

Yelp
Great pizza, like probably the best in the south sound. Service is top notch. Great bar program with some killer unique cocktails.
