"Art, check. Cocktails, check. Good tunes, check. The Sovereign Nation of Bar was recently founded on 5th Avenue just south of the Stone and north of RCKTWN. Make this sleek reclaimed wood lounge your gastropub away from gastropub while in town. Your taste buds and chill time will thank you. Make sure to check your ego at the door. This isn't the place for cool dudes/dudettes but for cool drinks. Out of every bar on the list, this one ranks numero uno in my book. Blah-blah-blah, they have a fireplace and a bear rug. "Bar Sovereign is like a simplified tiki hangout minus the complex menu. There’s the typical decor like tropical flora and bottle lights above the bar, but you’ll find that the tchotchkes are a little less tiny figurines and a little more like paintings of skeleton Elvis in a Tennessee flag bandana (which is for sale, by the way). Snag a wobbly and torn bar seat to enjoy your classic rum and coke or ask the friendly bartender to sample a pour from an interesting bottle you haven’t heard of. Pair that with an al pastor tlayuda from the Alebriji pop-up in the back, a crispy disc so delicious you’ll forget about any plans you made the rest of the day." - ann walczak

"Named after fantastical Mexican folk creatures, the Alebrije food truck offers street food like tacos and churros with an emphasis on quality ingredients — chef Edgar Victoria sources the masa for his corn tortillas directly from a small family of farmers in Oaxaca, Mexico. Highlights include an al pastor tlayuda (an iconic Oaxacan dish served on a large tostada) and Mexico City-style carnitas tacos that melt in your mouth.
