Barbados Golf Club

Challenging course with excellent greens and potential to be great. A bit rough around the edges, maybe an infusion of capital is needed to bring it up to a good standard. General maintenance and upkeep seems lacking. Memberships could be restructured to a dues based situation to attract more members. Instead of let's say a 8000 dollar renewable membership, implement yearly dues of 3500 dollars for example. To renew 7 or 8 thousand every year seems unsustainable for most people, yearly dues would be more manageable and may allow you to maintain more members. More members, more revenue to maintain the course, pave cart paths etc. Also, upgrade and expand the driving range with covering, and relocate the ball dispenser there.

The course conditions could have been better. The fairways were almost as rough as the rough. The Tee boxes are in very poor condition.

DONT DO IT. This is the WORST 18 hole golf course I’ve ever seen and played. The only thing that is good is the greens. Fairways are St Augustine grass, unkept, terrible conditions. The price is WAY high and it’s a huge ripoff. Club rentals are in bad shape and very worn. It’s apparent the do the minimum required. It’s like a pasture.

As a local thinking of joining the club I have a few doubts: as you approach the club it doesn’t really look inviting- the parking lot and front of building is not nicely maintained- weeds, trash, cigarette buds and lose gravel. This unfortunately continues on the course too - the cart paths are horrible and killing your back, the fairways consist of tens of different grass and are like the rough not good maintained and need rolling, cutting and debushing, the tee boxes need maintenance. The greens are generally in very good shape - here are the players to blame who don’t fix the pitch-marks. Some other concerns are the late start of maintenance- so when you want to play the mowers are around or the water is still on. The stuff is overall friendly and helpful, some could need a little bit customer service training. One last thing is the music at the restaurant- should be some nice “everyone’s music - don’t want to hear some vulgar lyrics songs after a round to relax with a drink. I also think the pay structure needs to be optimized - yearly fees, family membership, senior membership age - lower prices attract more people and bring in more revenue.Just my thoughts.

Host - Reception, club borrowing was easy and friendly. Got 5 stars there. Driving Range - Don't forget to get/buy balls before going as it's a long drive (cart) to get there, and probably a decent walk down 18 Hole to get there. (it's right beside the 18 hole) - 2 star. Course - Maybe it's the time of year I went but the fairways are pretty beat (while you will find a few good spots) mainly it's brown-ish green. The rough is cut down pretty good (possibly cause it's dry) so not much penalty for being in the rough. Greens - I had the unfortunate time for when they laid sand all over all the greens, so it was like putting in firm wet sand (so hard to judge distance and read greens). We had about 6-8 holes that were fine but the rest were all sandy. Tee Box - These are ok, not the best. Bowl shape so its not always flat when you are tee-ing so you just need to get used to either feet below or above the ball. Price - You pay for what you get. It's the most cost effective golf on the island but coming from Toronto, these prices for golf are like for premium courses in Toronto. There are 3 other golf courses but they are out of my price range I'm willing to pay for 18 holes. Overall, I would come back to play when the conditions are better but I wouldn't plan a specific golf trip to Barbados. Also, ask your hotel to book it for you as you may receive a discount (I did).

We brought our clubs to Barbados, thinking that we are going to play several times. All the YouTube videos about Barbados golf mention three top golf courses to golf however what they failed to say was that two of the courses are private and can only be played if you’re staying at that resort. Luckily, the Barbados golf club was open to the public for us to golf. It is a decent course. we stopped on the turn, and had a nice lunch at the clubhouse.

Rental of a cart was only $6US, the service was exceptionally well, the greens were fast. Love it!

A bit badly maintained. The paths for carts are full of holes in the ground so you drive like on off roads tracks. This should be really fixed, for 183 EUR what I paid for 18 holes with clubs and cart I expected something more. In Austria where I live for this price you get top classes Golf Course. Driving Range looks like from '80. The net securing both sides is ragged as hell, looks like after the battle, looks like no one's give a shit. One day was built and it stays like this forever. Faraways are mostly wide so for beginners are very forgiving, greens are really green and nice. Besides those negatives mentioned earlier, I really enjoyed the time there. Maybe it's a different culture here that they don't maintain a lot of things, in my country service like this would be not acceptable and course like this would die very soon. Maybe here it is standard , don't know :) but one time during holiday to play new course I would say - go for it. But my feelings are mixed :) If you are from Europe - conditions can disappoint you.
